Good Afternoon,

Sunny & hot with a chance of 90 for a high today.

Amtrak may come to Florida, with new trains to run from Jacksonville straight, going through Ft. Pierce and Stuart FL on FEC tracks, to Miami FL, no central Florida stops anymore on this new train. Will still run the old train through central Florida. Other talk was an Amtrak train running from Orlando to Tampa and then to Jacksonville.  I would love to see this new run as it will help take traffic off of I-95.

NAVYJACK.......I have to agree with OleTimer and Rich.  Thumbs Up   I "helped" my son into a pre-owned 2003 Hundai Sonata LX V6 with a/c and a list of comfort features too long to list.  81,000 miles on it in September 08 and not a problem since except for a bulb and a power steering fluid leak he hasn't gotten around to squaring away as the puddle on my driveway can attest..  Got it off a small used car dealer lot.  Think he has 105,000 miles on the car and it is running like the day he bought it.  $7,900.

After first securing a CarFax, a test drive, and having the car checked out by my own mechanic for condition and previous collision damage, the dealer agreed to doing the following before delivery:  brakes (rotors and pads), a timing belt (was due at 60,000 miles but wasn't done), a water pump and thermostat and belt, and a corroded power steering fluid tube (common problem).  Tires were new Bridgestones.  Then I took it back to my mechanic to make sure the work was done.  Wink

Good looking as well as practical, dependable, and solid  with features and creature comforts found in cars costing thousands more.  Paint was better than I expected.  The basic warranty on the 2003 was 5 yr/60K miles bumper to bumper with the (then) unheard of 10yr/100K mile drivetrain warranty (5yr/60K miles second owner). Other things I liked......a 14 cubic foot trunk with the articulated trunk lid supports, 60/40 fold down rear seat, and room for 5, 4 very comfortably.  Fuel mileage with the V6 automatic was 20 city/27 highway, and the V6 was no slug.  8 way power driver seat with lumbar support and alloy wheels.

You should read up on the reviews for the years you are interested in on the web.  I used NADA and  Edmunds.  Pick up a Consumer Reports Used Car Buying Guide too.

Go for it!!!!!!

Good morning all,

Chief, prayers for your mom in these trying times.  I heard the same story you did about BP and who's responsible.  OK, if it makes them feel better to blame it on the driller but the bottom line is, they are still liable.  Hope they can get a handle on this thing soon.  This looks like it could be worse than the one in Alaska.

Warm weather here this week and not much going on.

later,

Smilethanks for all the good info.  will probably get wife a sonata.  anybody got any experience with leases?  i never had one was wondering what the pros and cons are.  check on youtube for the song city of new orleans by johnny cash.  it is wonderful and recorded on the train.  lots of neat ic photos.  brings a tear to your eye.  when i was a young seaman we were on liberty in the philippines and went to a bar and there was an entertainer who sounded exactly like johnny cash.  the club was always loaded.  is a shame that half of the highwaymen group is gone.  i guess it is because of that song and since i saw the real train when i was a kid, i want to get a williams ic, f-3.  i have a k-line alco in ic with short 027 lionel ic cars, representing the star magnolia, but it is not the same.  pat and rt, please excuse my very limited experience with computers.  will get better i promise.navyjack

Good afternoon all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Did some more work cleaning dead limbs out of redbud trees.  Wife and I went to local historical society to see exhibit there.  Voted.  Went to buffet at Ponderosa.  Got new soccer equipment (cleats, shin guards and socks).  Visited some friends.  Got confimation on Mid-Ohio trip in August.  Finally got touch tone dialing on our phone (long story).  It was a good day.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL after "Glee".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Evening

A sunny 74 but with wind.

Well I did cut the grass so i'm heading to the train store tomorrow with my friend. We fumbled through the day and banilla with fresh strawberries sounds good.  I will save some for the thingy crew.

A lease is good if you drive enough miles to get your moneys worth otherwise lease to buy with a guaranteed price. That was my only lease experience....S.J.

Hi All,

Just finished solving a riding mower battery (no charging) issue on another forum. I'm sure someone on this form could have helped. Did learn more about those small engines.

We are mourning the loss of a Detroit police officer. It's too bad when you have a governor, senate and representatives who, to save money, vote to close prisons and cut funding to schools.

NAVYJACK, I always have been a Ford person due to family working for them. My son is an engineer at the local transmission plant. Through him, via a freinds and family plan you can get car FO 2% above dealer cost. Don't know about leases. Anyone interested can e-mail me.

Prayers for all those in need. ESPECIALLY those in harms way.

St. Louis is boring today - no plane landings on parking lots or crazy guys climbing construction sites.  Oh well, things will be back to normal soon, probably tomorrow.  Sure glad they caught that guy on the plane to Dubai.  Got my issue of Trains magazine today.  Need to mow the lawn, guess after work tomorrow if it's not too hot.

Tardis is ready and banilla with strawberries sounds good - let's hit it guys Smile

Sunny and 80's today.

Talked with an old friend today.  We usually try to meet up at the Buick GS Nationals in Bowling Green, Ky. in May.  Not this year.  Found out today that they have been rescheduled - the 13 inches of rain that hit Nashville also got Bowling Green.  Seems that the drag strip is under water.  That has got to be a mess.  The normal level of the river is 8 to 10 feet below the track.  Lots of low areas in Bowling Green too.  I'll bet that there are a lot of people flooded out.

Put a deposit on a 2006 Cobalt SS today.  Neat little car.  Moves right along - the supercharger helps in that department.  I think the published 0 to 60 time is 5.3 seconds.  If it checks out with the mechanic, I'll close the deal.  My old Buick friend knows a couple of the GM powertrain engineers who worked on the SS package.  Possible future resources.

Chief - prayers for you and your mom.

All for now.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Rain on the way tonight.  Hope it comes after soccer.  Watched "Glee".  Strage episode.  Too many plot lines.  Going to be like "Lost" and ruin a good story with too much wandering.  I had cereal and English muffins for breakfast on the dining car before sending it to "Points East".  TBIL after soccer.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 56 degrees. Going up to 82 today, with lots of sunshine.

Today is a busy day. I have some paperwork to do this morning and then PT this afternoon. Hope to spend some time relaxing, outside.

Yesterday, I had a doctor's appt. First one since January. He said I am doing good and all looks well. All vital signs were normal. Keep up the PT and low salt diet. That's good news.

Dining car rolled in from "Points West" with the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Wednesday.

Good afternoon all,

..... Got confimation on Mid-Ohio trip in August..........

Keep on training,

MikeC......I've been to Mid Ohio for the vintage car stuff.  Nice track.  I like Watkins Glen too.  Road America in Elkhart Lake WI.  And the list goes on.  I suppose it would be naive of me to ask if you have ever been to Indy.  I was the surprised recipient of two Tower terrace 13th row seats for one 500, took my wife.......a safe move.  Wink  But no adult beverages.  Sad  Is all of Indiana dry on Sundays?  We saw all of these folks dragging coolers into the track and could not figure out why until we got inside.  Suppose after 911 that practice has been eliminated.

Good Morning

Sun going to 74.

Well our growing season is later but we don't have to live in 100degree/150 humidity either. We get to enjoy the outdoors during the summer. My train friend is picking me up and we are heading for breakfast and Wild Bills trains, I hope I can get in and out with my money still in my pocket.

Aloha all. Greyer and cooler today. Nice chatting with Sir J, Brutus and Charlie on the train ride home from class last eve. Looks like a nice day with it cooling back to 50s this week. Got to figure out the cell phone upgrade or switch for the family soon. Daughter still looking for work. Spending the day at church for 'strategic planning' tomorrow. Haven't gotten to the trains yet this week.

Good Mornin, Ya'll, From Sunny and Warm Taxachusetts,

Sorry for the multiple posts but I'm running in and out.

Quarter panel and rear fascia damages on the newest addition to the RockIsland52 automotive fleet came out to $920.  Hit while parked in a strip mall; lucky I was standing there when it happened or the guy probably would have skipped and I would have had to cover the $1,000 deductible/cost of the repair out of my own pocket  Waiting for the green light from the knucklehead's insurance company to proceed with repairs.  Will probably get a crapbox loaner while the car is in for repairs.  Banged Head  New frige delivery May 19.....wife's list of "must have features" drove the price up 80%!  Repeat: 80%!  Banged Head  The Massachusetts Water Resource Authority water main break last Saturday on a new 2,003 pipe affected 700,000 folks in Boston and a ton of surrounding communities, fortunately not me......boil water order ended yesterday.  Investigations launched to find out why such a vital link in the major water supply line to a major metropolitan area failed catastrophically in 7 short years.....should have consulted the Romans whose aqueducts in Spain and other places are still functioning about 2 millenia later.  The dog ate another remote and my wife's sunglasses, her fault, she left the stuff laying around.  Lawn in back out of control, must at least hit part of it today.

Chief.......Angel continued prayers for your Mom and those who help you care for her.  She is in the best of hands, yours.  Regarding your tongue in cheek comment about my auto mechanic, I select only those mechanics who speak with a Southern drawl and drive 1949 Flathead Mercury or Fords with the mysterious hidden 50 gallon tanks aboard.

Papa and Charlie.....the loss of the Detroit officer angers and frustrates me, words I can't print here.

Brent......Angel prayers your recovery is progressing according to schedule.  How long will you be laid up from work?

Navyjack.......hope the info I sent to you this morning helps you to make a better vehicle decision.  Locating dealer (new and dealer/private party) cars near you, even the certified pre-owned ones with factory warranty extensions, can be rewarding and fun.  No sense running around looking.  You can do this from your computer.  If you look hard enough you'll find within 50 miles of you that 2010 Shelby Mustang GT500 with 18 miles on it.......only $65K (ouch)!  Guess the Sonata would be the safe choice, and that is what dreams are for.  JimT probably has already scoped out every single pre-owned Mustang GT West of DonB, DougDG, and RaySP.

Pat......I need a backup source for my "free" tomatoes.  What if Chief's tomato crop fails?  You need to put some of that manure to good use and start growing pronto.

MikeC.....I hear ya about the multiple story lines and complexity with these shows.  I watch the tube to decompress or to learn something.  Shows like "Lost" as a result fell off my plate.  Pamela Anderson got voted off DWTS and I don't see why.  She has "talent" the others don't have.  Wink

Chuck.....the Doctor's take on your great progress is truly good news.  Keep on hammering with the PT.  Re the low sodium diet......Laz, arguably the Pot's brewskie expert, informs me that you may have to downshift to a lite beer, has only 11mg sodium per 12 ounces, 60% less than the high test.  Better yet, switch to martinis......spirits have no sodium.  Agent Blueberry Hill, 008......has a ring to it.  Smile,Wink, & Grin

8N.....Thumbs Up didn't know the turbo Cobalt SS was that quick.  5.3 is hauling!  Good luck with the car.

Brutus.....enjoyed your St. Louis "slow day" update.  Laugh  We had a "stupid people" incident here last week that wound up tragically.  Power outage.  Folks fired up their auxiliary generator......in their garage!  1 dead and I believe 4 more hospitalized for carbon monoxide.  Continued Angel prayers for Char's progress.  God has blessed and watched over you and your family.

Spanky.....Angel patience, my man, on that repaired knee.  Continued prayers on your successful PT.

Rich.....Angel prayers your wife's job search is bearing some fruit.  Too early I suppose.

Dennis.....is your crud still hanging on?  Hope not.  Get well.

Later, gang.

Jack

Jack,

I am always looking and reading.  When the time comes to buy, I want to make an informed decision and get exactly what I want.  I am taking this week and next week off to relax, then I will try to get as close to 40hrs/wk at my part time job as possible while searching for full time positions using my degree.  I have a lot of resumes out already.

I have started working on the layout again now that I have some free time.  I want to get some scenery down, but I want to lower the second level at least 3" first.  I lost two auctions for 350 Royal Blues Monday night, but another one will come by eventually.  I probably made someone real mad while bidding on a rough one with 5 or 6 cars when my failed attempts drove the price from $66 to about $108.

Good Morning,

Hot & humid here in sunny southeast Florida, going up to 90 today, maybe hotter near Lake Okeechobee.

I think it was papadiesel who mentioned about police force being cut up north, we have the same problems down here as well. Our biggest problem is knowing who the crooks are, wether it is the guys toting illegal guns or the politicians that go to jail every month down here. Sometimes I think that the wild west could have taken lessons from the city of Miami FL on how to use a gun. With all the police department cuts only the criminals will have guns very soon!

Charged my lawn mower battery for 2 days and now the mower starts, just hope that the carb. don't need work again!

Still working on DCS problem!

11 mg of sodium versus 18......either is an insignificant amount compared to the daily recommended intake of 2,300 mg. or less..  EXCEPT for those of us who consider brewskies as one of the main food groups.  Using the lower sodium amount I could have 209 beers a day instead of just 127,  BURP!!!  Cool Confused Big Smile

If it comes in a container that says "LAWSON FARMS,"  could I mark the tomato up and sell it, make a profit, and then sell the box separately to a collector?
