fellas - it is really hard to type with one hand, so I'll try to do this quickly.

What happened was I was on the ladder hanging a section of screened soffit for the  screened porch. I had the fibreglass step ladder on the porch stoop with the non-step legs sitting pretty close to the edge. While I was hanging the soffit I had to use my left shoulder to leverage the soffit into place, then used my right hand to drive the screw into place. Just after getting the screw in the laddershifted and one of the feet slipped off the edge and that was all it took. Had i used the multi-ladder this would have never happened. i broke my humorous, ulna, rushed my wrist, and dislocated my shoulder. Last Wednesday they plated a screwed my humorous and the Wednesday they wll rebuild my wrist. I am lucky that here in Baltimore we have a hospital dedicated to orthopedic surgery and they are in-network with our insurance.

No tool/ladder sale. although I do have a slightly used/abused fibreglass step ladder that is free for the taking.

Good morning all!

Just a quick stop to check in before I head to Sandy Eggos for meetings all week. Dougda"G" and I have communicated and are trying to get together mid week. This way we can directly coordinate Southern (central) US and West Coast activities - you boys in Ohizo can ponder what this means to you Evil.

Had a great time in York. Had a great/fun breakfast Friday with Laz, Laz's SWMBO'd, and JEFElectric (John F). We had to consciously pick a point to leave and go to the show! Also saw Marty, Fife, Sir James, Mitch, and Kent & Carl of CTT. Good fun had by all. Brent, Wes, Buckeye, and "da" Chief were missed and we hope to see them in the fall (get well soon Brent) along with Chuck if he can make it!

Picked up several items including 4 modern era post war style Madison cars to go with my GG1s, an Instant Martians Warner Bros car (very good price), a couple of ZW circuit breakers, some pewter figures for the layout, a Pennsy tugboat, and some die-cast cars. My best buy was a set of 3 Lionel PW 450 signal bridges, complete, and in very good condition.

The most interesting item at the show (for me) was the O-Scale giant Bucyrus walking dragline at $8500 at Die-Cast Direct's booth. Of more interest is the guy has sold nearly 100 of these beasts. Looks like the model construction vehicle/machines guys can smoke the toy train guys for $$ spent on a hobby?

Will be back next weekend.

Have a great week all!

Regards, Roy

Good Afternoon Ya'll From Partly Sunny Taxachusetts,

Sorry for the absence, but I just got back with my family from a 12 day 2,700 mile road trip (by car, 2 of them) to visit the great grandparents, family, and friends out in Elgin IL, Gary IN, and Northbrook IL, and Chicago.  Chevy Chase would have been proud of us.  Hit Niagara Falls on the way out and the Rock and Roll Hall of fame on the way back.  May have criss crossed paths with some of the York boys as we headed back to MA on I 80/90 and then swung North on 90 in Cleveland up through Erie, Buffalo, and Syracuse on the way back.

Have tried to catch up on the Pot as best I can.  Good to hear from JohnB and the UK transportation issues.  If this plume had occured here in the US I am certain the domestic airlines would be charging travellers a fee to sleep on the airport floors.

Chief......your Mom and your family have my continued prayers.  Hang in there buddy.  Your plate looks to be a bit too full right now.  How is the leather sofa for reclinerizing?

Brent.....sorry to hear about your ladder acrobatics and subsequent incarceration in various health care facilities.  Evil Knievel and Humpty Dumpty have nothing on you.  Bob Vila doesn't seem to have these problems.  Prayers from my wife and I to see you through this morass and for a speedy recovery. Angel  Looks like the completion dates for both the sunroom/canopied deck and your layout will get pushed out a bit.....but they can wait.

Brutus.....from what I gather, you had the crud and then got hit by a car.  Did the beer bottles break?  What's next?  A saw or ladder snafu?  [:D  Good news on Char yet again.  A return to work in August?  WOW!!!!!

Chuck.....glad to hear your soreness goes away during your PT workouts.  The muscles are getting a good workout!

Hudson.....it was good to hear your friend Vince has made it to rehab and soon home after a long hospital stay.  Continued prayers for him and his familty.

RaySP......a belated Happy B-Day to your wife.  If she is like my wife, she doesn't like the birthdays but can be brought out of her funk with the right presents.

Rich......Happy B-Day belatedly.  55 is it?

Dennis.....sorry to hear you have been under the weather.  Prayers you get well.  Take it easy or you will become the patient.

Fife......did you have to use your considerable influence to get SJ and Charlie out on bail in York? Pirate  Is SJ the party animal we think he is?  I know that there was no way Brent could have missed Laz' ladder parody in the York pictures, even in his condition.

NavyJack......you should start a thread on "The Cars We Had Once Upon A Time."  Re your Truimph TR3A.....part of the British (automobile) invasion from the 60's along with Austin Healy. MG, Lotus, and Jaguar.  Great top down fun and the best friends of the foreign car mechanics.  Wink

DougM.....happy belated anniversary to you and your far better half.

Charlie.....nice score at York!  A 736 was it?

DJ.....hope both Corey and Tyler are feeling better.  And that you don't come down with something.  Sounds like you are getting along recovering from the knee surgery.

8N......hope that second opinion eases your mind about a course of action for your better half.  Prayers she has a speedy recovery.

Banks......why is your Dad having his house jacked up?

Lee.....like others have said, the job situation is pretty bleak up my way.  A friend of mine is selling Hondas now, or trying to.

OleTimer......I can't think of much that is worse than a wife who gets the redecorating bug.  My wife likes to direct the proceedings, says she can't paint as well as I can.  But I am not buying it.

Papa......congratulations on the Baptism of your granddaughter!

Later, gang.

Jack

Aloha all. A beautiful spring day here.  Jack, welcome back. I'm not hurt you didn't visit during your vast Illinois roadtrip. Really. Just drove through Elgin on the way to Geneva  and back taking my mom and bride to visit all the quaint 'shoppes' there -  amid the tchotchke, I found a trove of nicely-priced Lionel in a dusty corner. A 145 gateman for $35; a semaphore and box for $30. Lots else I'll have to re-visit. Smile

SJ missed the bannila last night. Talked with Charlie some and Brutus. No Doug or Wes either.

Charlie hope your feeling better today.

Doug don't let Dennis know as he lives in GA he might buy it all up Laugh (I'm sure he would leave you some )

got my 8617 in I thought it looked like it was plastic in the pic but its die cast so might have a shell talked to Jeff.

Hope all had a good day.

Got my dock side train set in knew engine had some issues but he said nothing about the shell being broken off, it looks like they literally just tore it off without taking top screw out. oh well will part it out I guess. Its a dc engine so it has the can motor in it just not the electronics to make it ac or electronic E-Unit.

Did some honey do today so thats done with and have doctors appointments all morning tomorrow.

talk to you all later

Rich,

          Happy B-Day

Doug,

Nice score on the 151 semaphore and 45N gateman.  To test them:

45N,

Touch wires from transformer to binding posts.

151,

The center post is the common for the coil and the light.  Connect one of the wires to it.  Touch the other wire to each of the outer posts in turn.  Touching one post will activate the light, and touching the other post will cause the arm to lower.

Doug, if you need more info I can send you diagrams.

BTW, the new Williams trolleys are really nice my only complaint is the lack of interior lighting.

 Hello all,

Glad to see everybody had a safe round trip to York. Some prizes were hauled home.

Will one of you please match faces and names in the photo?

Been over a week since I posted. I think I missed Anjdevil's birthday, Belated Happy B-Day

If I missed any other occasions, I'm sorry.

I see Chief's Mom is having a rough time. Prayers sent.

Glad to hear 88 and Spanky are on the mend

We are having a much needed rainy evening so I took a little time to catch up.

Dads house was sinking worse than we thought. Now instead of pouring concrete to support it the plan is a new block wall. Worse news is we can't find a mason who will come in less than three weeks. I've decided to pour the footer and if a mason hasn't been found I will lay the blocks my self. I laid the foundation for my garage ten years ago. It ain't the prettiest block work but it hasn't moved.

Not much on the train front. Took grandson to the last open house of the season at the Altoona Model train museum.

I'm still considering going to the train show in Cumberland this Saturday. I'll probably pass though.Too much that needs done around here.

First Hillclimb of the season this Sunday, I will make that. Check it out http://www.beaverdalehillclimb.com/

Son is still looking for a job, I think unemployment (uncertain future) is starting to get to him.

I think I'm going to get a glass of wine and catch up on some reading.

Prayers for all who may need them

Fairly quiet right now at the 'scope, but will have 4 different observers for the shift so it will get interesting later. Computer and engineering types coming up tomorrow to play.

Chief - thoughts and prayers for your mom.

Brent - good to have you back and rest up.

Rich - happy belated birthday! Do they have a Harley flat car available?

Doug - the volcano photos were incredble! Would be interesting to see what they had to say on that in my old department (when I was looking down instead of up)

Dennis - hope you are feeling better

NavyJack - saw on another post you used to work w/ the seabees. Then obviously you know how crazy we are.

Jim S. - nice work on the flyer sign!

Finished machining the surfaces for the mounting plates for the milling attachment. Using the flycutter on the big mill was fun. Found a small machine vise that should work. Next week on the hill I should be able to drill and tap the plates and try it out. I have a couple of small live steam engine kits I want to put together (one from stock and one from castings).

Almost sunny and mid 50's today.  Dry enough that I cut hay mowed my lawn.

88 - Ow.  Murphy's law would say that the injury was on your dominant side.  You a righty trying to be a lefty now?  Here's for a speedy recovery.

Navy Jack - the Triumph TR3A had independant rear suspension, didn't it?  I think that is what the 'A' suffix was for.  I had a Triumph Spitfire when I was in college.  Fun cars - gutless, but they handled well enough to make them really fun to drive.

Anjdevil - happy birthday.

Burtus - great news about your wife.

All for now.

Evenin' All.

Had a nice chat a bit ago with Roy. I'm going to pick him up at the hotel tomorrow evening, he can't play hookie from his meetings, for an "afterhours" tour of the museum. Nothing running but it will give him a better chance to see the "inner sanctum". Big Smile  But, should he decide to visit on friday morning before heading back to Big D I think I can scrounge up something for him to run:
