Dennis,

I agree with Chuck and Doug on that.  Along with the safety concerns, a leaking seal could open the door to rust, and that can get expensive fast.

Speaking of rust, I spent the day dealing with the rust above the door on the PGT (thanks for the help Rich), but I am going to have to take it to a pro.  The rust came from behind the metal at the bottom of the damage, and I don't have the tools or skill to deal with that.  The top of the damaged area was just surface rust and cleaned up nicely, but I started to see a hole developing when I started sanding closer to the bottom.  I am going to try to get an appointment tomorrow.

Thanks for the tips guys.  I will check with area windshield folks about it.

Just got in from having to go back to the hospital to see a patient.  Short trip, but it was right as I was finishing cooking some seasoned potato "chips".  Wife finished cooking them and shared them with the kids.  Was good when I got home, but not as good as if just out of the oven.

I am looking forward to getting off call.  Not that I have worked especially hard this week, but I still look forward to getting sleep without having to worry about getting called in.

John, no butter is allowed.  Only salt and water with them....still, they were good.

Sunny and in the 60's today.  Thumder boomers rolling in tonight.  Heads up Brutus, they might show up at your place in a few hours.

Dennis - take it to the windshield shop.  A minor slip with a tool will get very expensive - better somebody else than you.

Got a bid going on a 3472 milk car & platform.  Hopefully........

For some reason my DSL is unstable tonight.  Better post this while I'm still connected.

All for now.

Home from the lake.  TIRED.  Worked on big dock all afternoon.  Seems no one will work on the 8 slip dock until I get up there and get it started.  Wind and falling water level had made a mess.  Temp repairs done to hold it until it can really be fixed.

Howdy guys - running late.  We're under a tornado watch alright, but not a warning and scanner looks clear right now.  Nice chat with the guys tonight.  Watched Old Dogs - funny movie, lots of good jokes.

Tardis is ready and we have an open window right now, so better hit the air!

Smilehello guys, hope that you are alright.  dont worry chief.  i dont listen to other people.  you are ok in my book.  hope that pat is ok and also rt and sbmmbob.  havent heard from you guys just am used to you friends i guess.  jim how are you doing with your lenten fast? i am exempt because of my illness. finally got my williams acl e-7's and it was worth saving for.  it is the largest engine that i have ever owned.  there are several guys coming over here this weekend that are going to set up a layout for me to run some of my trains. dont have much room.  got navy times.  va is being sued by some vet groups and are finally admitting that herbicides used in vietnam war caused all kinds of heart disease.  they will not publish findings till later as they say desert storm vets come first.  they are waiting for previous vets to pass on.  supposedly 200,000 vets are affected.  illinois vets are rated below vets in other states according to vet groups.  i guess i picked a great place to retire.  wife promised my mother that she would take care of my dad.  so we ended up here(a very vet unfriendly state).  cousin, a major, usa, west point grad, goes on in florida, paralized like me gets 70 percent higher rating.  we are stuck here because of the house.  now they are impossible to sell also. still love the u. s. though.  we are the u.s., not the government.  navyjack

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 40 degrees. Going up to 68 today with some sun and clouds.

WOW...Spring is coming.

Today is another busy day. Lots of chores to do around the house. I have my PT this afternoon. I wish I could have sessions, three times a week. Not much else is new here.

Dining car is here for the usual breakfast. Cheerios.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Morning all

Navyjack – My Lenten fast a struggle but hanging in there.  A food fast is not a sacrifice for me as I often forget to eat.  My “fast” was not looking at trains on ebay.  As crazy as that may sound after reflection on what is distracting my focus from God, surfing ebay for trains came to mind.  It has been a struggle not to cheat, but you guys can probably sympathize more than most the sacrifice this is.  The time I would surf I now pray, or do spiritual reading.

Congrats on getting the layout.  A loop of track on a sheet of plywood is more than a room full of shelf queens in an operator’s opinion.

May God bless

Jim

Aloha all. Warmed up quite a bit yesterday as I searched for a St Paddy's Day T-shirt along the tourist shops on Michigan Ave. Funny how we get used to wearing shorts when it is 55 in March but need a coat when its 55 in September. Looks like greyer, rain-ier, but still in the 50s today. Take that snow - die, die! Still have mounds around.  Boy, that would be a hard thing to fast from, Jim, Prayers for safety from bad weather.  Dennis, check to see if you have a rider for windshield work on your insurance. I did when the glass had a minor nick and they replaced it 'free'

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and mild in SE Indiana with rain on the way.  I "played" soccer last night (was not sure how to emphasize that word as I did not want to use caps).  It was four on four for an hour and a half.  I really played hard.  One of "my"soccer girls got me really good on a big toe.  No swelling, but it does hurt.  My legs are still throbbing from the knees down.  I had my wife rub the legs so I could get to sleep and then I was dead to the world.  Glad I did not have to drive.  I had a blast last night though.  Perhaps I need to turn it down a notch, but on the other hand, I need to go full tilt just to stay with the kids.

Concerning "Lost", I thought the biology teacher looked familiar, but I could not remember from where.  Ironic that it was the same episode they were back at the boat.  The student Ben helped, was she the same actress that played his daughter on the island?

I see where one of my favorite teams just increased their chances to win a couple of races.  Sarah Fisher Racing hired Graham Rahal for a couple of road course races early in the season.  If he does well enough, perhaps he may drive more races for her.  Go Sarah!

All of this talk of fasting and Lent makes me think of an expression on the "Bob and Tom" show.  One of the personalities said they were giving up self-denial and accountability :-)  Seriously Lent is a good time to do something to improve yourself.  My problem is finding out something that I would be confident in staying with.

In honor of John Bakeer, I had English muffins on the dining car for breakfast when it rolled in from "Points East".  TBIL anytime tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Mornin, Ya'll, from partly sunny Taxachusetts,

Dipped into the high 20s last night but we have been getting a steady diet of high 40s/lower50s the past week with little or no precip.  My reprieve from the rain part appears to be about over as the weekend forecasts foretell; but the runoff from the previous rains and snow melt, plus the oversaturated ground, seem to be moderating.  Down to the last two snowpiles from Winter's accumulation.  One patch is 10' x 6' x 2' deep......cleaned up the entire yard last week from all of the dog piles.  All the wife sees are the ones these last two bastions of frigidness are now revealing.  Is that what your wife sees, the 2% and not the 98%.  Banged Head

Brutus.....hope Char is employing full court press to get things back in line after your stint at the helm.  Prayers continue for her continued progress.  Re the other patient?  "There but for the grace of God go I."

Chief.....prayers continue for your Mom.

Spank......prayers through these trying times with the loss of your Dad and the heavy responsibilities to take care of your Mom and her affairs.

8N......hanging wallpaper with the wife is the only way to go if you don't want to pay someone to do it.  Especially when things start to go South as they usually do.  Wife does the measuring and cutting and I take it from there.  When the criticism and complaints start, I tell her I need a break and want to switch positions and do the measuring and cutting.  It's like putting out a fire by moving it under Niagara Falls and is just one more "Wonder of the Modern World." Big Smile

Jon......hope you get the same moderation.  We don't need another natural disaster to hurt folks and threaten crops.  A new bike and a plan to rack up the miles?  Perfect.

NavyJ, OleTimer, and DougM....my aunt's (r.i.p.) fiance didn't survive the Bataan Death March.  My Dad (r.i.p.) and FIL served in the Pacific, both willing to share their experiences to teach this "youngster" the horrors and realities of war.  Due to the sacrifices of the "greatest generation," and all servicepeople who served before and after, we have the privilege of our freedoms.  Both my Dad and my FIL didn't get released from the service until April 1946, held over as "essential transitional personnel."

MikeC......glad to hear Lucas is doing well.  Must be allergic to Dad.

JimT......sorry to hear about your camera, perhaps time to start looking around for another.  I've got two friends who are looking to upgrade and sell their current ones, both of the latter light years better than mine.  Both Nikons.  Re the Mustang, my take from the past year is that there is a lot of good stuff out there for sale at reasonable prices, especially if you are willing to look outside your own zip code and are willing to travel to get it.  You are young(er) than many of us, seem to enjoy working on and hanging on to yours.  The Mustang does a lot of things well.

Rich......I second that on the Hemi Challenger.  Black please.  I receive unsollicited advice from some of my friends about my automobile preferences which gravitate toward horsepower and what they consider frivolous options.  I get the critical  "premium fuel recommended/ required" and the  "poor fuel mileage" lectures from them, which ALWAYS terminate when they are pinned to their seats on a zero to 115 blast getting on a highway.  Or they are planted on those wonderful heated seats at zero degrees on the perpetually frigid Northeast days and nights, when the cold starts mean shivering your rear end off for the first five minutes or so.  For some, a car is nothing more than four wheels and transportation.  For others, it can be a daily pleasure and respite from whatever bothers us.  I am among the latter and will remain so.

Laz and MikeC.....every time I read one of your exercise posts, I get motivated to wait until the urge to exercise has passed.

Dennis......DO NOT try to monkey with the windshield yourself unless you are prepared for a lot of residual aggravation and disappointment with the result, but get it taken care of.  Been there.  Done that.  Wound up at the windshield shop anyway writing the same check.  My wife usually uses these types of automotive normalities to move the conversation where I don't want it to go.  "It smells in here.  My shoes are getting wet.  Something is dripping on my leg.  Let's get a new car." Or....., "Whatever were you thinking when you tried to fix this yourself?"

DougDG.....hope the meds knock out your crud.  Mine did in January, results within 3 days.  If I hit day 7 with something I'm off to the Doc, avoiding the additional week of misery but with the same eventual positive outcome.  The problem in my household is that the 6yo grandchild brings home something every other week and shares it with the rest of us.

Brent.....we are waiting to see what tatoo you picked out to cover up the surgery you performed on your leg.

RaySP......did you mention if the house next door to you sold?  Maybe you too will get a pole dancer for a neighbor.  Lucky your eyesight is back up to snuff.

Later, gang.

Jack

Happy Thursday from warm and rainy North East Florida

Up to 65 today, rain off and on all day, so most of my work will be inside today.

NavyJack - Conga’s on the impending layout!!

Lent – gave up hamburgers.  Being a carnivore, that’s tough, especially on Fridays.

I remember growing up that every Friday was meatless.  Grandma would always

make spaghetti & gravy (sauce) for dinner.  Cheese sandwiches for lunch.

I used so see the church calendars with the little fish on Friday.  Times have changed....

ZW is wrapped up and ready, just need to find that receipt and off we go.

Hooked up my spare CW80’s.

Had Pam’s Eclipse looked at by the dealer, the paint is falling off it and the

uptick is that the lawsuit will take car of the repaint (or most of it).

SO, we’re off to get estimates the rest of the week. Banged Head

Doug, thanks for the suggestion about insurance, I will check on that.  Raining like crazy here since last night.  I have thought about planting some fruit trees here as my Mom always mentioned about not seeing any Peach trees here in the peach state.  There are a lot, just not in this area.  We have mostly pine and Pecan trees here.

Chief, hope you have a good time with the cutting service.  Does your speech have some reference to the highway expansion allowing more Yankees to migrate south?

Regarding the fasting, we don't celebrate "Lent" per Se, but we do fast for specific prayer requests.  While I am not on the diet portion of the plan, I will continue the fasting for a couple of items that I have been asked to pray for.  Helps one get focus on God and our priorities in order.

Going to head in.  Making plans to go to the National Infantry Museum in Ft. Benning next weekend.  They have opened a new building that is supposed to house many more infantry items, but does not include all the tanks and the old locomotive that were at the old one.  They are also getting the inventory from the Armor museum from Ft. Leavenworth, Kansas as it is being relocated here.

Will check in later.  God Bless,

Dennis

Mike,

That is the same actress, and the character has the same name as Ben's daughter Alex.

Jack,

I saw that Office Max had the same camera that I had on sale this week, so I went earlier this morning to get one.  I also got a two year protection plan just in case.

I just got back from taking the PGT to get an appointment.  Yesterday, I was starting to question what I should do with it at this point.  However, when I drove it this morning, my mind was made up.  I've never driven anything else that performs the way it does, or has the same character.  Aside from the small soon to be fixed rust spot, I couldn't ask for anything better.

Good morning all,

Took the whole family out to dinner last night including my married son and his family.  They got home late after spending all day waiting for case to be heard on a traffic citation.  Long story short-- they lost but maybe it will make him more careful.  I think his case had some merit in that the no right turn sign was not clearly visable but judge thought otherwise.  Cop was a 22 year old snot nose kid who liked rubbing salt in the wound.  Treated defendants without respect according to my son.  Judge was not even regular guy but temporary.  My son said one guy was let off after driving 100 miles per hour and some other stuff but he pleaded guilty and only got a $25 fine.  Son says that the ones who looked like dirt bags got the best treatment from the judge.  In fairness, I was'nt there so can't really judge what happened.  I know for myself, I drive a lot more cautiously nowadays because all the California cities are hard up for revenue and traffic tickets are the easiest way to get more cash.

Called my friend with ALS yesterday and it turns out that our mutual friend who told me he fell out of bed and hurt himself failed to tell me that it happened over one and a half years ago so it was nothing new.  We had a good talk so the call was worthwhile and not in vain.  He is holding up pretty well considering.  He can only talk a few minutes each time though because he gets tired easily.

Ran trains for a little while last night but my heart was'nt in it so wrapped it up early.  I need to get a new engine to perk me up but we all know how that goes.  This hobby is an addiction.  One engine was too many and a thousand were not enough.  Reminded my self to be thankful for the trains I have.  I know train enjoyment changes with attitude.

Prayers for all our group who are sick or having problems

Ray

Afternoon.  Threw shovels of dirt at cameras.  Did my speach.  Probably on TV [haven't had time to watch].  Lots of good news from DOT today.  Now to go check the pond.  Still cloudy and warm but not rain [they call for T'showers].  Actually watching for FEDEX.  Dennis the two engines are due here any minute.  Grab them and off to the train room.  Got so now I hear "chin music".  "How many more engines do you need?"  "Work on scenery."  My reply is, "My Yankee buddies are suppose to come and do that." Whistling  Later.

PS: just checked greenhouse.  Tomatoes and squash are already coming up.  That was fast.

PS:PS:, FEDEZ just came.  Good thing I was home.  Required signature.  Never had that before.  I guess it was because it was two engines.  Gotten engines from Choochoo before and never had to sign. ???  Looked at prices on the boxes.  Was way over on Lionel and way under on Atlas.  Think his pricing on Lionel was way low.  Command, Railsounds, electrocouplers and smoke.  Can't buy a conventional engine for what he had it priced.  Bet he priced it wrong.  Anyway, looking at both engines and with shipping, I came out a couple of $$ to the good.

Back from lunch with pastor to find bride scheming to get another cat. Uh oh.  Good catch, Mike, the student was his daughter...

Sir J, good news about your bride!

Jack, I'd forgotten my grandfather was on the last ship out of Manila before it fell. He used to import hemp for rope.

Good afternoon everyone.  Cases are done and paperwork is in.  Planning on going to work out for a little bit and then meet wife and kids at dance studio to take them out for dinner.

Just got off the phone with one of my favorite train stores.  I ordered a cable for running the Legacy set off of my KWs.  Also ordered the coaling station from Lionel.  The cable is not in stock, but if it doesn't come soon, they will make one.  Either way, I am looking forward to running my legacy engines.

Chief, Kim has given me the same look/words with regard to train arrivals.  She just shakes her head and says "why don't you finish the scenery before buying more stuff....besides, you don't even know what you have".  Why yes dear, you are right.  Hey, what can I say?  I did marry a good one though, she lets me get away with it.

Will check in later.  Hope everyone is doing well.

Howdy guys - no rain and it was beautiful out during the day, although we had some storms overnight I guess, I slept through that.  3,298 zombies were hurt in the making of this film - message we got after beating the Dark Carnival level on L4D2 Laugh  Had some bourbon chicken for dinner, which was heat and serve from Tyson I think.  It was very good, especially with some hot sauce and an ice cold adult beverage Thumbs Up  Just waiting for SJ to show up on chat and then we'll warm up the Tardis and do the rounds.

PS - Char had a doc appointment and she's doing fine.  Her hair is coming back and her numbers were all up except hemoglobin, which was the same as Monday.  She told the doc she gets a little dizzy sometimes and he asked if her hair is coming in blonde!  Laugh

Thanks for prayers and intentions.  Prayers for all on the board and for our loved ones and friends.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
