Smilewow doug, that bi-polar is cool.  i bet it was hard to leave it after watching it.  are they building a standard gauge layout at the store?  one of the things i miss is going to the train store.  having my pupils dilated for two hours after leaving.  the lionel bi-polar is one of my all time favorites.  i have never seen a real one only pictures.  you are lucky.  we are watching my grandson tonight.  sp california is a nice state, but expensive.  when i lived there i knew what poor was.  it was good that i did not have to have a heating bill, as i would not have been able to pay it.  navyjack

Hello All

Rained all day, not downpours just rain.

I'm working on changing the clocks, at least forward is easier. Goofed off and couched today so I'm ready for the thingy. Got banilla and some cookie dough ice cream I grabbed by mistake. Help me eat it up boys...S.J.

THanks for the reminder to Spring forward, Sir J.

NavyJack, it is an MTH 'Brute' - standard gauge - huge, very impressive. He is redoing his gigantic window layout. He's taken out the slot car track he used to have - 20 lanes!

Sorry, it is an SD35.  Have not taken it our of the box.  TMCC, Railsounds, smoke and electrocouplers.  Will verify.  Got to go see if it is PC or PRR.  Invoice does not say.* [see below]  The other engine is a NS Dash 9 with TMCC, Railsounds, smoke and electrocouplers.  That is the one the box had priced at less than $200.  No joke.  New in the box.

AH, photos of the US 401 multi-laning ground breaking.

DOT Division Engineer and self with shovels.

State Legislative Member and self cutting cake.

Photos were taken by a Blackberry so not too clear.

Shot in cheap .22 with high $$$ Leupold 2X7 scope.  Used new rifle range at the pond.  Fred [hunting and shooting buddy] built a nice shooting table.  Bad thing about shooting.  Have to clean guns when through.  Especially today.  Got sprinkled on several times.  I had bore sighted the .22 and it was almost dead on at 50 yds.  Now to do the .243.  Got to get a 4 foot tall shooting stand built to get 200 yds.  Only got 100 yds right now due to a hill.  May not as guy who teaches carry conceal class and uses my range works for an equipment rental co.  Says he might bring bobcat next weekend and cut down hill 4 feet.  This will fix it so we will not have to build stand to shoot 200 yds.

Later.

* It is very detailed PRR.  Does NOT have smoke the best I can tell.  Has been test run from what I can tell but not run as traction tires show no wear.  Snow plow and screws sealed in plastic bag.  Spare traction tires sealed in plastic bag.  Now something strange.  Nothing in the owners manual to explain.  Sealed in a plastic bag are two axles, wheels and on the axles are brass gears.  Wheels do NOT have traction tires or a place for them.  Am I guessing it can be converted to two rail????.  It does have TMCC, Railsounds, electrocouplers and directional lighting.

HI GUYZ,

Well worked in basement all afternoon got display case wired and mounted on wall.  Went to church, then to golf course for dinner.  Great meal!!  Came home and took dog for walk.  Then ran trains for 2 hrs., NO PILE UPs!!!  Ah all is good with the world.  Tomorrow got to do a good clean up in train room.

Chief, Once you run some Atlas it will be difficult to give up the PC/PRR even if you don't have any other of that roadname. The earlier models didn't have smoke and my one real complaint is the generic RS that they come with. Unfortunately they have pretty much priced them out of my budget, thank heavens for the likes of CHOOCHOO, E-Bay, etc.

These are the three SD35's that I have:

Good Evening everyone!  Has been a great day as had FIL and his bride down.  Lots of play time with the kids and then some great food.  Kids are in bed and I have been watching Modern Sniper on Military Channel.  Spoke to one of my friends out at Ft. Hood.  His wife is also a Col. and is about to be deployed for 15 months to the mid-east.  This is her second deployment for over a year there.  Tremendous sacrifice our military make.

Chief, certainly sounds like a unit that can be converted to two rail.  Are the flanges on the spare wheels smaller than the ones on the engine?  That would pretty much tell you.  The extra parts could be great for scenery when the Yanks come down to do that for you.  Not interested in PRR, but if it had been NYC or Southern, I would jump.  Sounds like you got two great deals there.

Set one clock forward (the important one next to the bed).  Will do the rest tomorrow.  Time to get some sleep.  I am on camera tomorrow and my neck is already hurting me.

God Bless,
Dennis

 Evenin' guys

Had a short ride on the HD today, went to the open house at the local dealer.  Met a couple of fine Yankees (from NY state) and talked for a bit.  Was there for a couple of hours and then came home, did a little shopping.  VERY windy today, weather was great out of the wind.  Seems like a repeat tomorrow.

Change your Clocks & Check Your Batteries (in that SMOKE DETECTOR), I ran that program up North, I hope youse giz will do that...it's very important.

Dennis - on the fire related side, 8 homes in the community of Ocean Grove went up in flames this morning, including the Manchester Inn.  The Grove is just south of Asbury Park and I believe it is a Presbyterian or Baptist community.  Still has Blue Laws and such.  Check www.APP.com for video, pictures and such.  No one hurt, winds made hard, but looks like the guys made a good stop.

Ran the 2026 and a pair of BEEPS with no pile ups  Took off the Chessie 8633 for a while.

Off to spend some time with the Mrs.  Have a good night!

Just closed up due to high winds and frost. Spent some time painting the "perch" for the windbird. Assembled the snowshoes. Planning to try them out this morning unless the weather is too bad. Also snow-sealed the boots. Even though I'll probably wear the LaCrosse overboots they needed it anyway. Trying to make this set of workboots last a bit longer since I'm spending a lot of money on corvair parts.

Doug M - a few Chicago related items in the most recent Trains, especially a nice photo at the LaSalle Street station.

Chief - shouldn't the cake be at the dedication ceremony rather than the ground breaking ceremony? Gives a little incentive to get the job done:)

No train time yet this week. Been focusing on the windbird as next Wed. is maintenance and it goes back up then. Thinking about bringing Grandad's Japanese tinplate set up here. There are times when it would be good to run something around a track. Well off to test the bird in the shop. Too bad I couldn't put it outside, we just got a 35mph gust.

Good Morning all

Od Timer - I agree!  Grandkids are the reward for having kids!  This weekend the grand kids are saying with the other set of Grandparents and I miss 'em an hour after they are gone.

Going to be a busy day, dedicating and blessing a new Baptismal Fontat one of the Churches.  One of the members of the parish build it and we installed it Friday and Saturday.

Got to go May God bless

I have a question, the kids have been wanting to have a pet and my bride have been thinking about another dog for a while and a wife's co-worker has a miniture schnauser they will give up.  They are a young couple with a newborn baby and they cannot give the dog the attention it needs.  It is two years old and housebroke.  Mary and I went to meet the dog yesterday, today we will see how the kids and dog interact.

What do you guys think about schnausers?

Today is an easy day. Indians game on this afternoon from Arizona. I will be in the train room this afternoon. Good day to relax.

Jim.... My daughter has a male Schnauser. They have 2 kids and the dog and kids are very close. Very playful.

Dining car is here and we are having an omlet today for breakfast.

Morning guys.  Getting ready for morning church.  This week, I can eat before Sunday School, which to a Baptist, is important.  Kind of like the story about children who were encouraged by their teacher to bring something representative of their religion.  Susie, a Catholic, says "I'm Catholic and I brought Rosary Beads", Johnny says "I am Baptist, and I brought a fork".

Got my Legacy set in, but I have a little scenic work to do and to get that adapter cable in.  Hope to at least take it for a test drive this week.

Jim, not sure what the particular breed issues are, but if at all possible, a dog teaches some important life lessons.  Nothing like the love of a dog.

God Bless,
Dennis

Another quick drop off before going.  Several folks have had thoughts of purchasing new starter sets and others will find some good deals at Hobby Lobby if they use the 40% coupon.  Here is the link to the coupon for this week.  I don't use the ON-Line version, but you can click the button and get the printable one to bring into the store.

HI GUYZ,

49 and rainy yet.  Got to clean up train room today.  Take dog for walk then get a run in took off 2 days and my body is telling me to run some, so east 2 miles will be good.

OLE TIMER, yepper put in the peel and stick lites in display cases.  I wired 4 per case, each case is 40 inches and there are 4 cases.  I have them all together for 160 inches, so you can put a passenger train in it with engine and tender.  I used a CW80 watt transformer to eluminate the case, just a soft glow not harsh, looks cool when running trains.  I will post pics later.  It took me longer to do all the wiring then it did to build the cases.  I used cope and sticker joints and made them all out of red oak.

Stay frosty,

Smilemorning guys, hope everyone is ok.  wife is getting ready to go to church.  will have coffee and breakfast when she gets back.  she will bring me communion(she is a eucharistic minister), and we will have a good day.  i hope that everyone up in new york will be ok.  they have got bad weather i heard.  it is 43 here with steady rain, and all the piled up snow is gone.  i am hoping that several guys are going to come here today to let me see some of my trains run.  until then i always have youtube.  wife is cooking some egg-rolls and brats.  (weird combo- huh?) german-filipino all american.  wish all you guys could come over i would love to meet all of you.  wife has the best(decaff coffee) in northern illinois.  daughter-in-law(sicilian), gives us a real heinz-57 family, but grandson is so cute.  i would give my eye teeth for him. did not get to see him last night, but maybe today.  atlas engines look real neat.  very detailed, kind of like a giant ho engine.  you guys are lucky.  i am a postwar kind of guy when it comes to detail and features, but i appreciate the nicer engines, just personally dont have the manual dexterity to handle them without doing damage.  (a postwar steamer is more my type), old timer and other guys, you have a great relationship with your grandchildren too.  i am glad.  it takes away all the pain.  take care guys and have a blessed peaceful day.navyjack

Aloha folks from a grey and cool Crystal Lake. So much for early church. Looks like I have to shepherd a group of Junior boys today. And they said I'd never be called as a substitute leader. LOL. Bob, I'll have to get that issue.  Jim, my only experience with the breed - they are yappy - which got old. Bride is under-the-weather so looks like I'll have to undo her latest cat adoption (which isn't going well) and babysit for the pastor's kids (and our youngest) tonight. Ah well. Installed the lighted watch tower last eve. Got to run the Brute at the LHS yesterday.

We were "adopted" by an older female Schnauzer a few yeas ago.  She lived with us for 7 months before she died of an enlarged heart.  Hands down she was the best dog I ever owned.  She was always with the family, if someone was up at night she'd stay with them.  Always by the door to greet us home, loved car rides and made sure anybody unknown felt unwelcome.  She protected my daughter when she thought the princess was in danger.  We have cats, but I'd get another Schauzer in a heartbeat.

Dogs make great companions. We have had eight lovable dogs in our life time. They are all gone now. The problem is they don't live as long as we do, so it is tough when they die. Yours dieing in 7 months would be really tough. That is why we decided not to have a ninth dog. We have cats, but they are not the same.
