It's still snowing in Ohio.  About 6 inches on the ground.

Looks beautiful thru the bay window.  It's 74 degrees here.

Evening all from Snowy Southern Ohio

My bride got called into work nights in Peds.  She took a bag because with the weather her relief may not come in.  I pre-warned co-workers I may be late Friday or not come in if my bride gets held over.  Got home from work and took the kids outside to play.  We went about a block away to a hill and sledded for about an hour.  They said it was the first time they had ever been sledding.  I did teach them how to bail out.  The kids got cold and we came home and warmed up th hot cocoa with marshmellows.  School is already cancelled for Friday, so the kids are still up playing, but will soon be off to bed.

Jack - The 302 is a great little engine.  Like Jim said it went through several modifications shell and tender wise, but a nice engine.  My favorites are the early ones with the multipiece diecast shell with wire hand rails.

Dennis - I can't imagine what must be going through your mind.

Buckeye - I will keep you informed about Saturday.  We will see what the weather brings.

Time to get the kids to bed

May God bless

Jim

Evening all.  Cokked chicken on the grill.  Was outstanding.  The sause basted on makes the difference.  Turnips from the frozen garden.  Actually got above freezing and the sun was really warm.  Pond had ice except the north side.  Beavers are back.  Built in the spillway and the creek feeding the pond.  Not there now unless they built it back after I left.

Now as to snohio.  Now they way we will probably not get any.  If so a dusting.  [probably get feet of snow then]  The forecasters say west of us and east of us but a "belt throw the middle of the state will get little to not any.  NAAH NAAH bury Ohio in snohio   Laugh

Real cold coming this weekend and then into the 50 next week.

Popcorn time.  Later

Good evening

Just finished shoveling 3 inch's of snow, still a little coming down. It messed up plans with  Charlie for our train running tonite. Plus if he had come over I would not have been shoveling snow. My friend dropped off his new Legacy GP7 for us to play with, it's one sweet running engine even though I just have TMCC. I have a flyer 307 that looks a lot like the 302, I added smoke and chuff to it.

RI52- The F3s are from Lionels new classic 1951 remake of the  NYC freight set. I have been running the engine but just put the cars on display, got enough PW ones to play with. Well I am ready for the thingy to swing by, banilla if the guys want some...S.J.

Some guy went to work this morning at ABB here in St. Louis and shot 8 people, then killed himself.  Local radio show was getting calls from witnesses and even people who worked there that one of the employees had a concealed carry and went out to his car, came back into the plant, and managed to hit the bad guy.  News isn't reporting it though.  We'll see.

Thanks for all the prayers and good wishes men - it's working!  Prayers for all of us and our loved ones.

We're looking at 15 to 30 degrees below zero tonight - Brrrrrrrr!

TARDIS is ready and we might need to get some hot chocolate tonight!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

 Good Evening -

Boy this sure is one bunch of "chatty" ole guys around here.  I can't keep up with all the posts.  Maybe my problem is the time change, by the time I get here most people are done for the day, and I see the accumulation from the entire day.  Intersting stuff.  Glad to see Jack, and Roy back, and some new faces as well.  Think need to add a couple of new pots to the fire to keep up.

Had a busy week at the office so far, good sure would be if it stayed that way for a while.  Came home and wife was just finishing wershing the car.  Chris and a bunch of his friends are going to Vegas for the weekend.  Suppose to leave Friday at 8 am, come home Sunday pm.  (5 girls, 4 guys) 2 rooms, they are staying at Hooters.  Only 3 of the 9 are 21, so going for lights and sight seeing.  Then he leaves for Milwaukee on Monday morning for a week, nice to be young, and independent.

Weather been pretty much the same, some variation....... between 75 and 79 every day for the last week or so.  Suppose to warm up to 80 this weekend.

Been watching some train DVD's that I got for Christmas, (Pat Lawson got the same one I think.  44 DVD's, on one collection.)  I've watched about 6 so far.  This one is in LaFayette Indiana, showed NS, CSX, and Amtrak running trains down 5th Street right through town.  REALLY STRANGE!   Literaly the trains going down the middle of the street with traffic and pedistrians on either side of the train.

Take care all, got to go and turn the sprinklers off, dont want the yard getting to wet.

Brent,

LOL.  I've been sitting here looking at the pics, and I just can't imagine how that would happen.  Are you sure Fife wasn't around?  This has him written all over it.Wink

As for the wiring, just do what I did when I had a electrical problem with the old layout.  I had a short that I couldn't find, so I just grabbed the cutters and got rid of the wiring.  I rewired everything using one consistent method, and the problem was gone.  If you saw the old wiring, you'd know why I did it that way.Oops

The roads are terrible here, which made the drive home from work interesting.  I knew things weren't good when I slid down the road that connects the store's parking lot to the main road.  Fortunately ( or unfortunately depending on which way you look at it), I didn't hit anything.  The Sunfire definitely needs new tires now after my struggle to try to get up the driveway.Big Smile

Partly cloudy, with winds out of the north west today.  I don't think we got up into double digit positive temperatures.

I didn't need to go to the 'Y' for exercise tonight - I just went out and shoveled Jonadel's snow off of my driveway and sidewalks.  Gee, thanks loads for sending it our way.

Chief - too bad your pond won't freeze enough to allow you to try some of the northern winter delights like ice fishing, ice skating, racing on ice with your motorcycle, car, quad, etc. or even the more exotic types like a polar bear swim or a scuba dive under the ice.

My corrected copy of Greenberg's 2010 Lionel Pocket Price Guide got here today.  Will have to leaf through the pages the first copy was missing.

Got assigned some homework this week.  My friend, who I help with his late model dirt track car, gave me an article to read about 4 link suspension systems and the effects of spring rates and shock absorber rates and positioning.  Neat stuff, but everytime I get into the article my wife starts a conversation, or I need to get up and attend to something.  The material is just heavy enough that you really need to think about it as you are reading if you are going to get anything out of it.

All for now.

Back home for the day for a couple of doctors appointments. Doctor was fairly happy w/ how things were going. Now to just deal w/ some of my other hangups going on right now.

Went to a neat watch shop to see about having my pocket watch repaired. Its an old Russian Molniya with a locomotive on the back. Dropped it before Christmas and broke the balance shaft. They were going to look into finding or making the replacement part, and I said I would check w/ the guy I got it from regarding available parts. Neat store w/ lots of antique clocks and had a good conversation w/ the owners son, who is following in his dad's footsteps. So cool to see that still happen. I found an identical watch on ebay later for a good price so I picked it up w/ the giftcard I had and asked about parts from the seller for the other. If nothing is available, I'll have the shop clean and adjust the new one, and save the other as parts. Turns out Molniya started making clocks for Russian aircraft and space hardware, plus various military applications.

Brutus - that's great news! Will have a vigil for you and the wife at the scope next Friday night. When I'm at work I guess I'm a bit closer to heaven than most...

8N - thanks for the encouraging news regarding work and putting things in perspective. I'm trying to focus on some of my own issues right now and make that priority. Ironically, one of the other operators and I may have come up w/ our own solution to one of the pressing problems at the scope.

Doug - going to try and get that book in the mail tomorrow before I head off to work.

Jim - got some Probe GT pictures for you. I'll try an email 'em off tomorrow night.

Had a good meeting tonight and did some good work w/ my sponsor. I'm sure at least some of you will know what that means.

Snow in the forecast for today.  We actually saw the sun yesterday!  First time since December 14th!  The midwest cold is on its way.  Should get here tonight.  Instead of 20 for a high, it'll be more like 2 by Sunday.

Great train running weather!

Good Morning all

18 degrees out but we did not get the all night snow as predicted.  Bride just called and her relief came in so she is going to becoming home this morning.  Hopefully the kids will sleep in, I kept them up late, so she can get a few hours before they get up.

SJ - The 307 is a workhorse.  Simple in all respects, and after adding the smoke and chuffer, you have a 302 with Pull-More!

Be careful today

Good morning all,

It was supposed to stop Snohioing today, but it still had some flurries in SE Indiana enough to make the roads slick.  Left a little bit earlier and took the "saucy wench's" minivan for better traction and more weight to fight the wind.  Saw three wrecks on the way in and still almost made it on time.  Went to YMCA last night and just did weights and soccer drills.  Played games with "saucy wench", Lucas, his girlfriend and his best friend from high school.  Lucas won both.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL after "Dollhouse" and "Numb3rs".  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all.  Quick stop over as they added another heart on, which means I have to go in a bit earlier than originally planned.  Right now, I am watching "Sunrise Earth" which this particular show is from China.  They are showing some of the rice fields that are made on the side of mountains.  Can't imagine having to farm like that...and all by hand.

Did some painting on the layout scenery last night and also got my DVD from MarkI video on the NYC steam era and also on the West Shore Route, which goes right through my town that I grew up in.  In fact, right down the street from my parent's house.  Laz, They also have some videos you may be interested in.  One is titled "Blue Mountain Odyssey, 4-6-2 #425 on the Blue Mountain and Reading".  They have many titles, and also, many of them have combined videos which will save money on multiple titles.

With regard to Mom's records, it was a tough read.  When looking it over, it was like putting myself in the room.  One concern is that they had a Vascular Surgery Fellow in the room and he seemed to sign a majority of the paperwork.  I hope he was not the principal on the case.  Either way, it seemed like they were not deserving of the good reputation they hold.  A mistake was made and they didn't recognize it in a timely manner.  While I have forgiven, we certainly don't want to leave things as they are and perhaps allow this to happen to someone else.

I have already driven my son to school and came back.  Had a bit of rain, but the temps right now are 31 degrees and should head to about 50 by later this morning.  I understand they did have a little problem with ice north of here, but we are well.  Hope things don't get too bad up by Chief...wouldn't want his beavers to be cold.  They have a tough time trying to build a nice warm home when some guy keeps coming by and tearing up their handiwork.
God Bless,
Dennis

Aloha all. I think the snow has finally moved on east. I was surprised at how much fell overnight; thank goodness for a neighbor with a three-stage snow blower. I sure appreciate my commute by train on days like this. I 'planted' a beloved old car as a diner last night while listening to the game on the radio. I should have some photos this weekend. Now supposed to get sub-zero again. TGIF!

Up earlier than expected this morning. With a 12 hr shift starting at 6PM, you try not to get up too early on the days we go up the hill. Stayed up late last night, watched a movie, etc., hoping to get up around 11AM. A crew arrived at 7AM to put up the fencing for the construction starting right next door. Alas...They aren't too noisy, but pounding in fenceposts is not exactly quiet however you do it. Got up figuring to get an early start and maybe grab a few hours in the afternoon on the hill.

Need to slide the MG over to get it away from the ruckus.

Doug - have envelope on desk. Will be on the way in a few hours. Hope it doesn't get lost in the snow.

Dennis - as I read about you studying your mom's case, you have my continuing admiration and respect

Off to find breakfast and then to the U.

Stay warm back east

Mornin' boys.  SNOHIZO - 2 more inches overnite - schools open 2 hours late.  Chief, I think on the GRITS to SNOHIZO ratio, Buckeye is handing you your tail.  I think if you look at them beavers outside, they are sportin' little handstitched scarlet and grey cardigans.  Now, I'm not saying we have to suck-up to anyone in Roger's Corners, but perhaps a small concession would be in everyone's interest.  Gettin' caught in the cross-fire here in the Mid-Atlantic.

Good morning

Well We,granny helped this morning, reshoveled  the walks so overall maybe 4 inchs of snow. No big deal here as schools are open as usual. Oh a few rural districts were opening later and the snow during rush hour last nite was bad but most main roads are clear already.

Phish its just not a Flyer engine without smoke and chuff. I got this one with some Lionel and brought it back to working condition. Temps for Sat. & Sun. morning around 10 they say.

Weekend is near,,,,,S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a beautiful day. The birds are out on the trees. Lots of Cardinals. It is 10 degrees. This is a great time of the year. Six inches of snow on the  ground. The sun is shining. Makes you want to have this weather year round.  OHIO has the greatest weather in the USA. Second is always IOWA.

Today is a busy day. I have to sit here, this morning and watch the birds eat suet. Then, this afternoon, I will move to the kitchen, and watch the birds in the back yard. It's a rough job, but someone has to do it.

Dining car was here for the usual breakfast.

Buckeye......TGIF

Y'all have a great Friday.

Get off the fence and fight with us Southerners. Whistling  If they are wearing scarlet and grey with OSU on them, I think the new Henry will take care of them.  No need for the ultimate .17HMR.  Might even down grade to a .22 long rifle for such riff raff. Laugh

Wind is blowing and turning cold.  Dropped from 40 to freezing since I went to meeting.  gas went up 12 cents a gallon since I left town and returned.  Temps drop and gas goes up.  Something wrong here. Disapprove

Off to the pond to find those OSU beavers. SoapBox

Bob, thanks for the thoughts.  It has been tough, but we will get through it.  Chief, didn't Maryland sit on the fence during the war of northern agression?  Not that Fife would sit on the fence....I'm just say'in....Just kidding, I wouldn't put down a guy who can arrest me or shoot me and be serious!  Also, Chief, Mid South Shooter's Supply has a warning about 17HMR rounds...not sure if it is specific to a particular brand, or if it is the round itself.

Wife tells me it is cold outside.  I'm not sure as I have been in a closed room all day, and in the OR, we typically keep the temps in the mid 50s while we wear our pajamas to operate on folks.  I am on call, but have a few erands and todos this weekend.  Have the meeting for the movie, then the bride and the kids want us all to goto the new Chipmonk movie.  Plan on a few layout episodes, but that is it.  Hope to relax for a while.

God Bless,
Dennis

Remington has recalled their auto-loading .17 HMR rifle.  Also says not to shoot their .17HMR through their rifle.   Best I can tell, its only their auto-loader.  I saw it in American Rifleman.

They have to be OSU beavers.  Only Buckeye and his crew could build back such a big dam in the spillway.  Well, my pitchforks just cleaned out to not a leaf nor stick.  All went over the dam.  Hardy HAR HAR.

Later.
