Doug, thanks, got the message.  Also, regarding Thomas faces, Lionel made a G scale Thomas a few years ago and the faces may go well on the 520.  They are thin plastic, so perhaps the Lionel parts dept. has them at a reasonable price.

I'll check in later.

Mornin' Fellas.

Waiting to see what, if anything, we get tonight into tomorrow. Seems the weather people can't figure out what is going to happen! ConfusedWhistling

Planned to get down into the trainroom last night to work on the wiring issues, but by the time I got home, made dinner with The Q and ate dinner I simply didn't feel up to it. Need to get down there, but looking more and more like Saturday or Sunday.

Brutus - great news on the wife! Continued prayers will be raised.

Trainshow in York this weekend, not the TCA meet but The Q mentioned going to PA to buy clothes with the Kohl's giftcard we received... not sure I can convince her that I should go to the trainshow to see what is available... who knows.

Good Morning,

Awaiting the snow. Have at least five drives to clear. I volunterred to do my neighbors customers. At least I have a snowblower. Won't have to do the gym thing. Yes Doc, I will pace myself.

Daughter took grandson (5yr) to the hospital yesterday. Jeremy slipped and hit his head on the drive. Was vomiting afterwards. Catscan revealed nothing. On the way home (10 pm) he was eating chicken nuggets and fries. He's ok this morning.

Good morning

Hi 20s today, some of that snow is expected here. 2 to 5 depending on where it goes, more of it expected to the south of us. We shall see in the AM.

Some train room time for today as I don't plan to be out that much . I don't even ask granny to find rattles, its almost like Duh what rattle. Well if we knew then we would not have to ask would we...S.J.

S.J., Isn't that why they put a volume control on the radio ? At least my wife must believe that if you can't hear it, it ain;t broke. I won't comment on her Altima with the seized engine.

Tree is down and boxed for hibernation til next year. The artificial ones aren't quite as good as the real ones but they more than make-up for that in long term $ savings and convenience. Just burn a really good bee's wax scented candle and it's hard to notice the difference.

Now, to decide on what to pack for tomorrow's trip to the museum.

Kickin' around the idea of trying to find some D&H passenger cars to run behind my Lionmaster Challenger. Any of you guys tried this and if so streamliners or madisons ? It looks great with the K-Line woodside reefers, but multi-tasking is better. Cowboy

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a clear 22 degrees. Suppose to get some snow later and tonite. A bunch of nasty snow is headed south.  NS is suppose to get 10 inches, and -5 degrees.

Today is busy. Wife is grocery shopping. That used to be my job, so she is not speaking to me. That's the good news. Supper will be questionable.  I will take a nap, as I wait for her to return with the groceries and unload the car. I am on thin ice here.

Dining car was here with a snow plow lead. Had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Sunny and 24 today. I know many of you up nawth would love to get up to a 24 degree day Angry

Doug M - I had a conference call this am with several folks on in the Chicago area that did not make it to their office today.

Down into low teens here tonight. This all gives the local news a reason to blab 24/7 about the weather. Local news preempted all the normal morning shows this am so they could blab about a non-event. I think they went and sprayed some water on a couple of roads to make some news when it froze.

Brutus - prayers for your wife.

Good morning all, had to take grandson to school this morning account his parents went to court about a traffic ticket.  My son claims that the ticket was issued to him in error.  It was all about confusing signs for right hand turn but only during certain hours.  It sounded like a real money maker for the police in that town.  My son said the cops were writing up one ticket after another.  I support the police for legitimate business but they are human too.  At least the judge will decide.  I hope it all works out.

Dennis, thank you for your intention to tell your friend about my ACL article.

Brutus, great news about your wife.  Prayers are sent.

Nice weather continues here in Southern California.

Good Afternoon, Ya'll, from sunny Taxachusetts,

I sure am glad for global warming because without it we sure would be cold......hey, wait, we ARE cold.  Read with interest how Ray, Doug, and Don are struggling with the 70 degree temperatures in CA.  You poor guys have to go out in that deplorable weather and take down your outdoor Christmas decorations?  We don't have that problem here because the decorations are all buried under the snow, and I'm lucky to get the stuff put away by St. Patrick's day.  Sounds like the weather is so bad in TX that Roy may run out of fire wood and have to put on a sweater.  Hopefully Mel, Rich, and Lee are out watering and covering our citrus crops down in FLA.

Chuck.......it was good to hear you are doing much better.  So much so that you are taking your life in your own hands by even thinking about a layout on the first floor.  If I were to suggest that around here you would be reading about me in the obituaries while my wife would be out shopping with the life insurance payout.

Hey JimSP and Dennis.......I've got a power drop off with my Fastrack too.  I don't find it too much different in that repect from the old tubular.  But I am enjoying the 036 curves versus what I had.

Fife......re the Pats/Ravens game Sunday.  The general consensus up here is worry and consternation.  The loss of Welker, inconsistency offensively in the second half of games, the squeaker against the Ravens here at home earlier in the season (bad ref calls), and the return of some of the Ravens defensive starters.  The Pats are ripe to be taken, even if their record at home is solid.  Las Vegas nonetheless has them 3.5 point favorites.

Brutus......it has been a tough year but it sounds like things are finally coming together for your wife.  She and you are in my prayers.  Stay strong, brother.

JimSP/JimmyT......my wife and I were invited to an open house New Years day and the host had a AF 302 on display in his office.  Looked like new, but he said it hadn't been run in about 50 years  After the wives found us and made us return to the party, I turned him on to Charles Ro in Malden MA and/or Northeast Trains in Peabody MA to get the engine properly serviced.  What do you know about that engine?  Northwoods is primarily AF prewar, so I thought you two would know better.

Chief......I thought you Southern gentlemen were tough, but your comments about a little NC precipitation and cooler temps now have me wondering.

SirJames.......running your F3s?  I have been awol from the Pot for quite a while.  What did you get?

8N.....congrats on scoring the Marx 666!

Jon and Jon (KJ)......I have been using the fireplace more this winter than in the past but have been judicious with the "how" because it is conventional, has no recirculating fans or into-the-room vented heat collumns behind the firebrick, nor do I have a cast iron plate to help retain and throw back heat into the room.  I should probably invest in the latter and get a new fieplace screen/door combo with the recirculating fans that pull the hot air off the floor of the fireplace and blow it out into the room.  What do you do to keep the heat from all going up the chimney?

Brent......did you ever finish your composite deck?  And can you run trains onyour layout as the contruction proceeds?

A buddy of mine came over to run trains over the holidays.  He has an exceptionally clean 671RR (1952, perhaps a C8) with the 2046W Pennsy tender (8 wheel) but he never cleans or lubricates it and does not have a layout.  Had to argue with him a bit because he doesn't understand why the maintenance is necessary.  He's the same guy who checks his motor oil when the light on the dash goes on, then he adds but doesn't change it.  His car has been leaking both automatic trans and power steering fluid for months; and unless the trans starts slipping or the steering rack screams at him......you get the drift.  The 671 still runs smoothly and it would be a shame to see a piece like that go south from neglect.  At least I have him convinced to store it correctly.

DougM......keep shovelling, brother.  Have you got a snowblower?  Looks like you need one today!

Laz....always wondered how far you are from the Blue Mountains?  Do you get a lot of snow in your parts?

My 275 watt ZW transformer from around 1955 may be up for some service.  The power chord has seen better days and the unit has never been serviced.  I wonder what the going freight is for that service?  Anyone have an idea?

Prayers for those who need them!  Time for some Sudafed to combat the effects of a cold my granddaughter has generously shared with me.  Banged Head

Jack

Jack,

The 302 is a very common Flyer steamer.  There are several variations ranging from the highly detailed 4 piece diecast boiler version with a sheet metal tender, to the one piece diecast boiler version with the same tender, and the one piece plastic boiler version with a plastic tender body.  They all are easy to find and relatively inexpensive ($25-$70 depending on variation and condition).

Jack - I can run trains on the upper level, but for some reason both lower level tracks aren't getting power. I have been instructed by The Q's 4yo niece that this is to be corrected PRIOR to her next visit... Sign - Dots and as you can tell from my posts I am attempting to do everything within my power to get this done! Big Smile  As for the deck... the sunroom walls are up, the roof is up over the sunroom and screened porch, but the sunroom exterior and interior are not finished and the screens are not up around the screened porch... and I still have some work to do on the exterior of the house under the screened porch... but I can't do that till it gets warmer... so I've diverted my efforts to the trainroom (see not about niece - when I mentioned this to The Q I as again instructed that I had better get it done because the two of them are very much alike - I will post a couple pictures tonight that will highlight this fact very clearly).

Buckeye--it's a beautiful thing, sitting in the living room where it's a cozy 73, sorry---that was 14 words Cool  We did receive 7" of beautiful Norman Rockwell type snow last night but today it's all been blown to Missouri!

Jack--one year ago we bought a Jotul fireplace incert for our big 'ol drafty fireplace that did have glass doors on it.  Whenever we used it the other rooms in the house would cool off, not a good thing.  Now with this incert life is just about perfect for Iowa winters, variable speed fan and it only draws air from the outside, none from the house,  The speed of the fan and the size of the fire determines the amount of heat put into this large living room.  We have several years of wood for the fireplace incert already cut/split and stacked, we just love it.  If I had to buy wood it would be a different situation, I do enjoy cutting trees in our timber in the fall, good exercise.   Although today I might consider lifting an umbrella drink in St. Thomas a better exercise CoolCool

Good afternoon all,

It is and has been Snohioing all day in SE Indiana.  Consequently I stayed home today (neither of the other car pool people wanted to go in either).  Last night, the "saucy wench" picked up me in Indy after work.  We went to the funeral home for a friend of my aunt's, ate at Steak'n'Shake, did some shopping, came home, went to the YMCA, did some weights, went to high school, and did some indoor soccer scrimaging.  I was tired.  Perhaps it was best I did not go in today. Brutus, that is tremendously good news as far as your wife is concerned.  Prayers will continue to be sent.  I had bacon and biscuits courtesy of the "saucy wench" this morning on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL, and it was a great celebration last night.  Don's neighbor put on an extra good show to help us celebrate.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Afternoon everyone.  Has been a day mixed with emotion.  Since I am on call, I came in later this morning.  Allowed me to catch up on some work at the house and watch an episode of "Band Of Brothers".  Got a call earlier from one of the producers who wants me to attend a meeting in their absence this Saturday.  Should be interesting, but since I am on call, patients take priority.  Hope to be able to attend as it would be good to get as much input for the movie as possible.  I think we were able to secure a helicopter for the shoot also, but have to wait on a phone call.

On the emotional roller coaster, I got the medical record from my mother's surgery.  While I have read similar reports on a number of other people, this was personal.  I look it over and think it gives more questions than answers.  Would be nice to get that settled.  We are not looking for compensation...just want what happened to Mom not to happen to someone else.  Plan is to review with our folks down here, then send a M&M report and suggestions to the facility/service up in NJ.  The surgeon would do well with a little humility.  As we say, everyday is a school day.

Jack, it is so good to see you back here....don't go AWOL again!  Just kidding.  Missed your presence.  Hope things are well up there and that you have been enjoying time with the family.  We are actually on a severe weather alert.  The next county up has closed the schools tomorrow in anticipation that they may get some snow or ice.  I have seen this before, but even then, no snow, no ice, and everyone was stuck at home with the kids.  Oh well, make the best of it.  I remember growing up...they would not close school until more than 50% of the teachers were not able to make it in.  Since they would have to stay later into the summer months if they took off more than 6 days, the teachers made every effort to make it.

Chief, check your mailbox over the beginning of next week....should be something there for ya!
Well, gotta run, but I hope that everyone has a good night and stay warm!
God Bless,

Dennis

Aloha all. Dennis and Doug, thanks for the leads on Thomas faces. Dennis, praying for you as you review mom's report. Papadiesel, I'm glad he didn't have a head-injury. Glad it was taken seriously.  Long day today. I've got a little Toro electric snow-blower that is very popular right now. Cleaned the driveway and neighbors before heading off to meet with a worship pastor candidate and his wife in from the west coast. What an introduction to the midwest! LOL. I was surprised the kids didn't have school though. This is fluffy snow - almost no moisture - maybe 6 inches so far, hard to guess because it's snowed all day. Jon, I've had all sorts of funny re-connections through FB, but it is fun to 'see' how people turn out.

I will post a couple pictures tonight that will highlight this fact very clearly).

This is from our trip to DC with family back in November. We were at the National Air and Space Museum and Susan had been walking with her niece the entire time. They decided to sit down for a few and rest when all of a sudden this happened:

Yes the seat banks were next to each other, and no one knows what prompted this. Susan's niece HAD been sitting right next to her, then promptly moved to the far end of the other seat bank...
