I was working on the talking station tonight, and I noticed that there appeared to be a small cork jammed in the chimney. After I had broken it up a bit with a toothpick, I turned the entire roof over and shook it to remove the pieces. As I am looking through the pieces, I see a brand new needle laying in my hand. That was a great feeling.
Got up leaves until 7 PM. Grady and I got a pickup load of pinestraw from widow lady's yard [whose yard I mow for free] and put it around front shrubs. Got in to eat at 7:30. Washed my dishes. Reclinerized until Pam came home from a tea. She woke me up and I watched most of 11 PM news. Just woke up again. Raining again.

Sorry I've been incommunicado since last weekend. Kind of a rough week. Podiatrist was out sick Monday so I didn't see her, then I wasn't doing very well later. Really got the esophageal thing going pretty good and was out a few days. Back at the scope now and slowly recovering. Not much sleep last night before I came up. For never reason I never sleep well before I go up. Pretty tired tonight but we are observing thru the evening. 4 observers on site. We got about 20" of snow last weekend and more scheduled next week.
Jim - cool story on the needle and you are not keeping the 342AC?!
Ray - congrats on the 50th!
Mike - congrats on the 13 touches! Must be fun to watch.
Going to try and clean up the 258 this hitch and get it off to my cousin and her daughters, since that was the idea last Christmas. Also have the 1615 and the FA with me as well, since I spent all the time on the 1122's last week. I got the KW in the mail before I came up. It is in nice condition. I see the podiatrist now next Friday and hopefully get the stitches out and this crazy boot off. Working thru the other hurdles.
Dennis - keep an eye out for something inbound
Prayers going out to those in need and the rest for good measure

Aloha all. Grey and cold here - that'll get monotonous after a while. Off to pick up some jobless buddies and treat them to b-fast. (Get them out of their houses) Church Christmas party last eve would've been better if the youngest wasn't so wound up. Prayers for Bob, 8n's bride and those also that need them. Hope to work on the layout later, hopefully, and probably some coursework with the teen. I'll be listening to my fave old time radio show - full of Christmas shows - from 1 - 5 pm CST streaming live over the Internet - search WDCB-FM.

Morning guys. John Baker, glad to see you stopped in. Regarding the web site/computer issues, perhaps it is in the interpretation....it just doesn't understand the Queen's English? Just kidding. Good to see you here.
Bob, Glad you are doing better. Watch those spasms. One thing that has triggered my wife's issues was eating steak. Until we put her on Nexium, she just couldn't do it. Now, she is much better. Food would get 'stuck' and just wouldn't go down.
Chief, that is a terrible story. Will pause here while a prayer is lifted. Ok, that's done and will say more later. As with mom, we never know when our time comes. Only God knows the number of our days. We have to let those in our lives know how much we care, for we know not what tomorrow brings.
RT, I had thought about that, but I think the better thing is going to bring the unit back to the store and hit the maker in the pocket with "failure rate".
Well, today the bride is working, so I'm home with the kids. Our Sunday School party is today, but doubt I'll make it. Shame as it is at a farm that one of the guys owns. Bonfire, horse riding, lots of fun. It is also the day for the town's Christmas parade which is pretty traditional with all the groups throwing candy to the young ones, etc. Don't want to get the kids in the cold....besides, I have another idea. Plan is to make breakfast and then get to work on the layout with a little help from the kids. I know, selfish to a degree, but it will be up to them. Besides, I need to get out of the rut. I recently took delivery of Dennis Brennan's book and hope to use some of his ideas in the scenery.
Hope everyone has a great day.Dennis

Morning. Raining!!!!!! Going to Miss Edna's with turnips [she loves them] later. Got to get Christmas "tubs" out from under layout for wifey. Also go put up carolers outside. Should drive in the ground real easy with this soaked ground.
Special prayers for all here. Get well soon. Buckeye should be very well as OSU beat Duke [blind hog will find an acron sometimes].
Got Roseyville PD, FD and EMS reception for donations for underprivileged kids Christmas tonight. Skipping the Wake Forest Continental Gala for this. I think this is more important. In fact, WF Mayor insulted my news School Board members so why should I attend?
Have a good one. [BTW: think I have driven the envasion back. no snohio here as it seems. maybe west of us.]
Good Morning
19 and sunny, 32 for the day. No s### here.
No plans for the day, did all the errands during the week. So TV and trains look like the way to go today. Enjoy your weekend...S.J.

Bob,
I wasn't sure if I was going to keep the 342AC, but it arrived this morning. No way I'll part with this one. I'll never find one nicer. I am going to clean, lube, and test it, then I'll put it away until Christmas. Pics and video coming on Christmas day.
Good morning all, I solved my music player problems yesterday as mentioned before but this morning the guy across the street from me was having a yard sale. I picked up a nice Sony CD/tape player for $3.00. I can use that for transferring music from CD's to tapes which I use in one of the cars without a CD player The best part is that it works. Wish I could find some trains at those prices. He did have a lot of LGB stuff but it was not for sale.
Chief, putting pinestraw around your plants brings back memories of growing up in Virginia. My brother and I used to earn money when we were in school by collecting from the nearby pine woods, pinestraw and holly for Christmas. We even got a little mistletoe sometimes.
Off to breakfast now, later,
Ray

Fife,
LOL. It is strange to be working on something and have a brand new part appear. If only I could get the PGT to do that.
Ray - You are right. Shooting deer, Etc. from the road is not very sportsman like, and not legal here in Virginia.
PhilaKnight - I don't want to start a riot here, but I take exception to some of your deer hunting comments. Being a farmer, I feel we should have a right to protect our crops and livestock on OUR land.
Every barrel has a rotten apple in it, the farmer barrel and the hunter barrel. No doubt a very few farmers consider your PA law open season on everything.
And a very few hunters ( usually town or city people) think they own all land. They leave gates open, tear down fences, don't ask permission to hunt on farmers lands, ignore posted signs, hunt deer at night, hunt from the road, Etc.
John B - I am surprised you are allowed to use the computer?
Dennis - Several counties around here have passed laws against throwing candy from parades. They say it cost to much to scrape it off the streets and sidewalks. Known as Scrooge counties.

Not sure what has been said, re: shooting deer but when farmers are losing bushels of corn per acre because of deer, IMO they have every right to stop the problem with whatever force necessary. Not even debatable. Likewise, Doe only season needs to be extended big time, having a deer as a hood ornament is not something I desire. Why this situation continues nation wide baffles me.
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Evening guys. Regarding the hunting, we have a season for hunting with dogs. Biggest issue for me is that the running deer have built up lactic acid....meat doesn't taste as good. Also, can be dangerous as it calls for a quick response, swing and shoot....if you have a line of guys with shotguns, the swinging shooter could bring the barrel in line with another hunter...bad news. We have a lot of deer and do have the special license hunting for farms. They can shoot anytime of the year, but can only harvest to eat during regular deer season. I have only heard good reports regarding their killing deer outside of season. They rarely do so. Hogs on the other hand are a different story. They are very destructive and the litters are big. We shoot on sight.
Well, the layout work was productive. I used some expanding foam and will see how it comes out. Have to do some trimming, but it looks like it will work in the area I am using it. Next will come some painting and moving onto the next section. Looking forward to getting the trains running again soon.
Dennis
Greetings All: Couple nice things happened to me the last few days....An old friend I was able to reconnect with after about 30 years gave me a big supprise. We were chatting via email the other day and I mentioned the hallmark steam engine that was stolen from my car. Also was talking about what trains I have (he got into o gauge in the 80's) I happened to say that I would like to pick up a RW transformer as that was the one I grew up with as a kid. Well I walked out my front door thurs. and theres a big box on the front porch. Inside were the hallmark loco that I had lost and the tender to go with it! also a 57 year old RW box he sent me. Now I have to get off my butt and make sure I get a transformer to go in it. A true friend indeed. Kinda brought a tear to my eye.
Yesterday I'm out in my yard and hear a sound I havn't heard in years...A train whistle!!! When i realized what it was I noted that it was comming from the direction of the old out of service tracks that cross rt9 here in lakewood. I've been here 18 years and never seen any action on that line. I have no idea what it was but something is moving around on those old tracks. I t was kinda wierd hearing that sound again. Grwing up in Shrewsbury our house sat in between the CNJ main line and a set of freight tracks so ya heard trains all day and night. Its been a loooong time...... Steve
Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 30s. I wished I could have taken advantage of it. Instead a cold that was brewing yesterday developed into a full blown mess today along with some intestinal issues as well. Did work a little upstairs and basically got done what I wanted to do up there. I spent the rest of the day watching videos, four hours of Extreme Trains and four hours of WWII series that was on History Channel lately. Watched two hours of "Dollhouse" and then "Numb3rs" last night. I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning. No Tardis tonight, taking a sick day. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Hello all, other than my brother getting out of the hospital this week, its been a quiet week.Christmas shopping done and tree goes up tomorrow after church. Its 33 outside and a rain and snow mix.YUCK ! Have a great weekend.
Evening all
A busy couple of days. The Festival of Lights at the Cincinnati Zoo was really nice. The Train Display at Duke Energy was incredible as usual. I took several pictures to share over the next few weeks. The other grandparents arranged a birthday celebration for the youngest, at Chuckey Cheese. That had to be the most uncomfortable three hours I have spent in quite some time. Talk about sensory overload!
Jim - Great news about the needle! How is it going now? The voltage supply to the station is critical to the proper playing. If it sounds slow, check the voltage and the lube on the motor.
Need to go
May God bless
Jim
Jim,
It sounds great now wth no static or pops. The paint on the roof is a bit yellowed and some of the paint on the sides of the base is flaking, but all else is nice. I oiled the motor bearings, camshaft ends, and both turntable shaft bearings, then greased both gears. How often should I change the needle? Some say to change it after three plays, but that sounds excessive to me. If you thought the 342AC looked good in those auction pics, just wait until Christmas... I am going to clean and lube it so I don't get any bad suprises on Christmas morning.

Not a dog hunter but is the only way to kill deer down east in the big timber and swamps. True about town folks. They move here and the new folks and their kids think they don't have to get permission to fish, hunt or drive their 4 wheelers on others property. Why I had to cable the road on mine and put up signs. That does not stop them so we [the key holders] have to constantly patrol the property. Ran 4 guys off two weeks ago who had parked at the cable and could not read the NO FISHING sign at the cable. Caught them hunting [even on Sunday which is not legal in NC]. Find stolen property "dumped" on the property or in the pond. Been attacked by one's dog that was not controlable. Now when I go, I'm armed. Hope I never have to use it, but I will.
Ran trains this evening before going to fund raiser for kids Christmas. Turned cold but no snohio here. Was a nice snohio in the mountains so I hear. Christmas parade tomorrow afternoon. Will ride in convertable and wave [First Lady and First Dog, Lucy will ride with me]. High tomorrow is suppose to be 48. Always cold for Christmas Parade. Buckeye, seems NCSU was the only team to win. Carolina lost to Kentucky. Funny thing was Kentucky's top scorer was from Raleigh NC.
Stay warm and sleep tight.
Good Morning all
Put a few pics on the SPF from last weeks train show.
Jim - I've used the same needle on my 755 for years. It is pretty durable. You may want to keep your eye open for an extra record, either original or repro. That is what may go bad. I may be way off base too. Going to run to St. Mark in Lancaster and maybe work in a stop at Smoke Stack train shop!
Got to go
Good Morning. Quick stop over before getting ready for church. Hope to get some more work done on the layout after lunch. Steve, quite a story. Chief, have fun in that parade and stay warm. Hope that the week ahead is a blessed one for each of you.Dennis
Aloha. Cold and grey here. Looks like an all-day at church - which I certainly don't mind - youngest singing in his children's church through three services, bride serving with the teens. Going to take the youngest to get his H1N1 shot this afternoon at the community college - he won't like that. Then I'll be working with the teen on his homework / projects he's been blowing off. Sigh. Good story, Steve. Glad your bro is out of the hospital, Harold. Hope you feel better, Mike. Prayers for all. Have to look for video of the Roseville parade. Gotta be out there somewhere. Never hunted. Would like to someday. Lotsa deer here. Lotsa subdivisions too so hunters have to go a ways now.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is a cold and frosty 20 degrees. Was 14 last night. The sun is shining and it will go up to 40 today.
Today, is a busy day. The wife will be arriving home tomorrow from a 9 day vacation in Disneyworld with her sister. She had a great time. I will enjoy a good home cooked meal again.
Dining car was here and I had the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Sunday.
Chuck
Good afternoon
I spent the night in the hospital, kidney stone. passed it around 3:30 am this morning. No pain now. but still a little lite headed from the pain killer. I don't know what it was but boy did it work fast. But when it wore off the pain comes back fast too. More later if I feel better..S.J.
Feet are cold. Roseyville Christmas Parade is over. 45 degrees in a convertable. Wifey and Lucy rode with me sitting up and the back. Big parade and lots of folks in town to view. Check WRAL-TV 5 at 6 PM.
Sr. J, eat grits and you will not have kidney stones. See, Buckeye has them all the time and he refuses to eat grits.
Saw a cold morning. Good freeze. Took shade cloth of off greenhouse as I guess those high 70's and low 80's days are gone now. Never left it on this late in the year before.
Going to IL's in a few. My go by Applebees for their two for twenty. Was going ot the lake as lady called and wanted to buy our monster HD TV in the living room up there. Called her as planned when parade was over. Her Mom had heart attack last night and she was at the hostital. Will set up another trip later.
Stay warm.
Wow Sir James!, or should I say Ouch! Have never had stones, but from what I have heard, it is as close as a guy can get to the pains of childbirth. Glad you are better. As to the meds, yeah, they are pretty good. Can be dangerous, that is why we don't prescribe to ourselves.
Laz, thought about you this morning as we were getting ready for church. Three deer were in the back yard about 50 feet from the back windows. two were sizable does that would fill a freezer.
Chief, glad you survived the parade. Hope you dressed really warm.
Continued prayers for Brutus' wife, Bob, and a few not mentioned.
God Bless,Dennis
Hey all was out of it yesterday as got up and next thing I knew montazoma's revenge hit and man did it. must of been like a 12 hour virus as around 5-7 P.M.
