Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the 30s for the high. I went to the YMCA last night. I did soccer drills (13 touches, new personal best), weights and a six minute half mile on the treadmill. I spent almost an hour getting gasoline for the PT Cruiser last minute. Went to one ATM, it was closed, went to the other and got cash, went to the closest Speedway to that ATM and the pump would not activate, drove back across town to the other Speedway (which had older activation devices that actually work) and finally got fuel (and I wonder why I never get anything else done in the evening). I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it to "Points East". TBIL after "Dollhouse" and "Numb3rs". I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Mornin' boys. Cloudy and 37 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Need to dump the queen off at work, get scalped, go to Home Depot, change oil in Chevy, fix the hot water nip in the bathroom, take shower, then go in for night shift.
Got a hint of .... I think it was the SUN this morning ... days and days of rain may finally be over . I may be getting everyone here finally in the xmas spirit ..... .... what a bunch of grenches here at the homeplace . Speaking of Harley almost moving out ... an extremely large company here about begged their employees to take a $ 1.50 an hour cut from
$ 34.50 an hour because of low sales .... they refused .... my nephew being one of the idiots .... now they're moving south ... they all swore the company would'nt .... .... now see how they all like $10.00 - $12.00 max for any available jobs now . The corporates already started construction on the new factory ..... he comes by moaning and groaning .... I won't tell you what I call him now ...... Over 1,800 jobs lost ..... .....
Ole Timer - Which company is rollin' out now? ...and which side of the Potomac are they on?
Good Morning,
Fixed Gamma (grandma) breakfeast and sent her off to work at the dental office. Will continue to prepare the basement for our family Christmas celebration. That is after Daisy and I visit Tim Horton's. Finally received my H1N1 shot. My Dr. thought I was vulnerable and not expendable.
Sturgeon-phish: Sounds like you are creating many great memories for the grandchildren.
Good morning

Cloudy and 50ish now up to 55F later.

Aloha all. Woke up to about an inch or two of the white stuff. Surprised it stuck. Of course, it makes for knucklehead driving as I took the kids to their various schools. Getting this house-husband thing down with today being off too. ;) Sad news about that plant closing. Drove a buddy to the unemployment office and food stamp office yesterday - you could almost feel the despair in the air. Anyway, here's to better times! (Clink)

A little cooler with a minor rain shower this morning, shower lasted about 25 minutes then the sun came out. Most of the day central thru south Florida should have clouds overhead, supposed to cool off some over the weekend.
Just looked at the employment stats on Yahoo.com, 11,000 jobs lost in November, they claim the number of jobs being lost keeps going down. If we could only stop those jobs from being lost!! Also saw that one city in California has a 31% unemployment rate, almost one person in three out of work. Florida has about 12% unemployment that can be counted, after you stop drawing unemployment they don't count you even if you are still out of work.
Last night, around 11pm, I had a small scare at the house or so I thought! The cat(Smokey is his name, almost all black) we have upstairs climbed a ladder that I keep in the upstairs area and make a racket and got up to where I keep my train boxes stored. This morning I hope to have fixed the problem by attaching pieces of quarter inch laminated cardboard to the four bottom steps of the ladder by using nylon tie straps, will see what the cat does later in the weeks ahead.
Got another call on the RV for sale, this guy wants to rent it, I don't want to go that route again!

LEE,
Protect those boxes, cats might think they are litter boxes?
Afternoon all
Just a quick check in during lunch. We are taking the grandkids to the Cincinnati Zoo to see animals and the Christmas Lights, then celebrating the youngest daughter's birthday. I may not have internet access till Sunday.
Bride asked what I wanted for Christmas, and I told her the AF Circus Train. She just laughed. Too much $$$ for our budget this year.
Time to get back to work.
May God bless
Jim
Boy, "Shoots" and "Sucks" up the nose makes me cringe.
I enjoyed driving the Tardis last night. Brutus, some might not agree about how hard I work, but I think you got it right.
When companies say they will move, they usually aren't kidding. The unions don't care about the locals. They will be moving with the company.
Weatherman says light snow tomorrow. I think there is an agreement between the weatherman and the grocery stores. Creates panic food buying every time.

Well, trip to Home Depot was a bust. Yes, they carry the full line of American Standard, and no, they don't carry their replacement parts. Just got off the phone with American Standard, and two new stems on their way. A+ for custmore service (just stay away from the Williamsburg line).
Phish - Santa doesn't have a budget, 'cause he makes everything in his shop...(bit o' wisdom from littlest princess). So, go ahead and ask him--errr, her!
Jim,
You could always get a rough 350 Royal Blue and repaint it.
Not much going on today. I was browsing the local Pennysaver paper to see if there is any Flyer for sale, but I saw something better. When I reached the last page, I was a bit disappointed. Then, something caught my eye. I look down to see an ad for a 97 Ford Probe with only 88,000 miles. I might give the seller a call.
Good morning all, had the gyz over last night for trains. Ran my four new scale pulllman cars from Golden Gate Depot. One of them came uncoupled and I didn't notice until the train lapped it and smacked it but no damage. If I can't figure out why it opens, I'll just crazy glue it shut. Two train meets this week end and no disposable income for either one. We just had a big meet. Around here it's etiher feast or famine. I need to find a compact disc player like a boom box type of thing that I can play in the train room while out there. I used to use a tape player but it looks like they are obsolete these days.. Maybe CD players are too for all I know. I'm still dealing with old technology all the time. My philosophy has been that if it works, don't fix it. I got a digital camera recently but I'm not to happy with that. The picture quality is not what I expected. I use to take good pictures with a 35mm SLR camera but this thing has a slow shutter speed and no adjustments. It's OK for still pictures but nothing moving.
Laz, sounds like you are in full deer hunting mode lately. This is the time of year for it. In Virginia, they used to run the deer with dogs toward the hunters. One time, I was out squirrel hunting and almost got run over by a deer being chased by dogs. He passed within 20 yards of me. I have never been hunting in California. Too many people out there.
I guess the shopping season is upon us, but I'm not in the mood yet. Still have to get the tree up.
later,
Ray
SPMan
They (not me) still hunt with dogs here in Virginia, as Ray described. What you can't do is have the dogs run the deer, etc. to you while you are on a public road and shoot them. You have to be 300' away from the public road to fire.
laz 57 LEE, Protect those boxes, cats might think they are litter boxes? laz57
Hey Laz57, so far it is only one cat and I have put some stuff on the ladder to keep him from climbing again, at least I hope he don't climb it again or he will have to be a contorntionist kitty. I can remove what I put on the ladder with a pair side cutting pliers as I used plastic or nylon ties straps.
Also played electrician on my layout again, five Mazda lights were out on second level for the city houses in my plastic buildings. I have the lights hooked up to one of my transformers accessory(somewhere near 15 volts AC and wired in parallel) outputs instead of going to the wall outlet. Ran my GP-9 and had a derailment on the overpass going thru Ogre Pass, I put Shrek movie figuires in there and a small Plasticville house that is supported by one inch dowel rod to the plywood below, with an 1/8 inch plywood base under the house. I have a few photos posted on photobucket.com the username is kookooclock027.
The 755 Talking Station that I bought on ebay arrived about an hour ago. When I first connected it to a transformer, I got no response from the record player when I touched the green wire to the base post. I installed a new bulb into the empty socket, and it worked when I tried it a second time. It works well, but it is in desperate need of a new needle.
Jim, to get a new needle for a record player unless you know somebody could take a month or more as most people don't stock needles for a record player. May try to locate a dealer or repair person that is into old fashioned Juke Boxes, as they used diamond needles for their record players.
With wiring, as I am taking a guess, sometimes if one thing don't work the other won't work either as they are hooked up in series( one goes out the other goes out).
Lee,
I've done some searching, and Doug at Portlines has the needles for about $0.30 each. I was looking at other sources, and these steel needles were $3.00 each from one source. The weird part about it not working is that the absence of the light bulb shouldn't have had anything to do with it. I am thinking that there may have been some dust between the contact for the record player and the cam that controls it.

Good Evening
The big news here is over 13 inch's of snow in one town along the western side of lower Mich. Cold air is picking up moisture off of the lake and dumping it in the Grand Rapids area, I am happy to report that none of it reached here. A few errands this morning and our friday eat out was my day with a little train running thrown in. Maybe some banilla later...S.J.
Good evening everyone. Lee, yeah, the news today stated that the jobs numbers are bad, but not as bad as they thought the would be Our nearest city has the "honor" of being the 4th poorest in the country. Wouldn't ya know it, our congressman voted in favor of both the government imposed health plan and the cap and trade bill. Both of which will only add more to the problems. Washington just doesn't have a clue.
OK, off my box. Just got off the phone with Magnavox. Had purchased a DVD/VCR recorder combo for my wife last month. Hooked the unit up this past Friday and the remote control wouldn't work. Turns out the supplied batteries leaked and corroded the spring contacts. When I called customer service, they tell me that because it was a battery acid leak, that it is not covered under warranty. I stated that it was their batteries in less then a week on a newly purchased unit and it is not covered? Their only suggestion was I could either buy a new remote, or return the whole unit for replacement. Guess the unit is going back. Not sure I want a Magnavox product either!
On train related items, I was driving down by the NS yard here and they are replacing a number of ties and doing some other rail work. Kind of neat to watch, but I didn't have a chance to stay too long. Also notice a number of NS trucks at a Holiday Inn. I think they are going to do some big expansion soon.
Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.Dennis

Dennis I think I 1 would of asked for her supervisor and when I got her would say its a shame you all are willing to lose a good customer ( no count how many more when I tell them of your poor customer relations) over a $5.00 remote controll device because of your all poor quality control

I don't know how it is in other states but in Pa they only way to hunt and stay out of trouble with the Game Commission is to sit in one place and wait for the deer. Only Could go 2 days this year and they were the worst days of hunting I had. Only saw 1 buck and he wasn't sticking around and 1 doe. But from what I hear alot of hunters are saying it's rotten this year. A couple of years back the Game Commission let the farmers run wild with killing deer that they said were "damaging" crops and after that it ruined the sport cause the killed anything that even looked at the fields. Maybe I'll have better luck in Flintlock Muzzleloader season.
Good evening all, well I finally solved my CD player problem. My son gave me a walk man type of CD player and I was able to plug that into my boom box tape player/radio and violla! It worked. Now I can listen to music while running my trains. The best of both worlds.
Pat, I never hunted deer with dogs either but heard stories about guys with shot guns using slugs spread out on a dirt road waiting for a deer to be run across it. Kind of like shooting fish in a barrel I guess. Not very sportsman like, not to mention illegal as heck.
Weather getting colder at night lately. Rain predicted too next week.
Day five of Pot#14 and I've found it-a record!
Still the damned site lost my sign/log in stuff. So it's still a bag of ess-aitch-one-tee!!!
Got a touch of Labrinthitis-keep falling over-even when sober... Vet says no drink, no drive, no caffien, No sex, some one remind me, what is that? But I do miss the Robinsons. Medication will not finish 'till Dec 30th, so at least I'll be able to toast the new year. Sorry if I'm whinging a bit, my problems are nothing compared with some your troubles guys. Let's hope the new year will shine a light on us all.
I was going to put some Smileys on this thing, but the last time I did, half an hours typing vanished...
I did mention that my e-mailer lost its marbles and wiped most of my addres book. I did ask if any one in the Jim/Jack/John Fortner circuit could drop me a line so I can put them back in the loop. Thanks..

Sunny and maybe 40 today.
S.J. - lake effect snow! Yup, winter is here. We ended up driving through one of those storms last Christmas when we went up I-94 to visit family.
Fifi, Phish - Santa building things in his work shop was the reasoning that I used when I put the entire scale sized Polar Express collection on my list this year .
Got to take some snap shots to get ready for SPF.
Later, all.
