Mostly cloudy and about 50 today.  Been misting/light rain on and off too.

Happy Birthday John.

Congrats on 3000 Sir J.

OSgage - I'm an engineer and my wife is also a teaching degree.  Now that you mention it, many of my engineer coworkers are married to teachers.  Interesting.

My wife's storytelling at the Teddybear Tea went well.  Was also recorded for broadcast by the local radio station.

Went to the Welcome Club Christmas party last night - dinner and gift exchange.

About all until later.

Aloha from Christmas Central. Misty here but warmer. Congrats on 3K Sir J. Lotsa wisdom there. Congrats too Brutus on your new TV. I'm jealous.  Rich, hope you get well soon. You too, Dennis, not the time to be ill. Mike C, they mention Indiana things and wear IU stuff - it's kinda stupid-funny, like Malcom in the Middle could be. Spent all day at the church yesterday with the youngest singing in his Christmas show. Had a 'Christmas store' for our county's needy - expected 150 families and got 350. Thank goodness had enough new coats, toys, gift cards, food. A good lesson for the youngest.  He and I visited Santa on our way home from church. Now gotta take him back for the rest of the day for his last shows. He's tired. Good TV watching last night while the bride was out - Talladega Nights and Fargo. Can't catch the Bears. They're probably getting killed.

Good morning all, well it looks like the rains are ending this morning.  Went for an early walk and I needed it after being cooped up all day yesterday with the rain.  My new sump pump took care of the run off and kept the water out of my garage/train room.  At one point though, we had the sump pump going and the pool filter was on automatic.  Then we turned on the TV and Christmas tree lights and tilt.  Tripped circuit breaker account too many things on the same circuit.  I need to get an electrician to rewire my garage anyway.  I need more outlets and stuff as well.  Until I get it rewired I have to remember to turn off the pool filter when it is raining.  While the power was off, the water backed up considerably in just a short time.  Fortunately that new pump came through when I got it on again.  My pump is not in a basement.  It is behind my garage in a low spot.  The water gets trapped in there and if you don't pump it out, it backs up all the way around the side of the garage and will go under the garage door, flooding the inside.  That has only happened to my twice in about 30 years.  The first time was before we had the pump and the second time was when there was a power failure during a storm.

Laz, better luck later on the deer hunting.

Dennis, get well soon.  This is a tough time of year to be under the weather.

Brutus, Congratulations on the new TV.  I need one too sooner or later.  I will probably be the last person in the country to get one with the latest technology.  Usually, by the time I buy some new electronics, they are already obsolete.

Chief, how are the beavers doing today?  Hope you get over your crud soon.

Have to get ready for church now.  Watched the morning Sunday talk shows already but nothing earth shaking.  I guess I shouldn't complain.

Rich, sorry to hear about the food poisoning.  Get well soon.

Ole Timer, I like to hear about those non alcoholic receipes for drinks.  Sounds good.

Have a good day y'all,

Ray

I tried to go to work today, but the roads are all ice. Due to the ABS problem with the Sunfire (so what else is new), my dad gave me a ride. After sliding 3-4 times, we just came back home. It seems very strange to be home on a Sunday.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill........

It is a rainy 34 degrees. Suppose to rain all day. Going up to 42.

Today is an easy day. Good day for a nap.  I'm feeling a little better. Cold weather really made the knees hurt. Maybe I'll run trains later.

Dining car was here for the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Good Morning everyone.  Well, given that at this moment, the pastor is about wrapping things up and I am on the computer, you know that I am too sick to attend.  Besides, I am sure the folks would rather me not share this with anymore than the Chief.  Felt real bad this morning and trying to take it easy.  With any luck, I'll get to feeling better by morning as I am on call this week ahead.

Bob, seriously, try to take it easy on the foot since just getting the stitches out.  Skin has not completely healed and you certainly don't want it opened up.  Give it another week or so and things should be back to normal.  We get that with folks after heart surgery.  Told not to lift anything for 6 weeks until things fuse together.  On week seven, they turn around and lift more than they should and have to get sternum re-wired.

Not much going on.  Wife is working "wee-care" at church for the little ones today.  She ought to be wiped out by the time she gets home.  Hope it wasn't too bad on her.  Tonight they are having a children's Christmas presentation that should be nice.  I will have to catch it on DVD later though.

Hope everyone has a great week ahead.
God Bless,
Dennis

Morning gents and ladies if Misty or another is out there somewhere.....  Woke with a headache - new pillow will have to be broken in apparently.  Phone was ringing - bank verifying my charge last night.  They were making sure I bought the tv and stand.  Okay - then I called the bank back using the number on the card and made sure that was really the bank that had called me - trust but verify!

Need to take all the old components and the old tv out of the old entertainment center and then scrap it.  It's too big to move without a moving truck and too big for the basement.  I'll salvage the shelves and some other stuff, but it's 99 percent particle board anyway so it's okay.

JImSP - thanks for the well wishes on my son's situation - it's really weird man!  I am not ready for this, so what will happen when my daughter starts dating?  I suspect that I will take Fife's advice too and start sharpening a machete!

Rich - prayers you get better soon!!!!

Be back later guys.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good Morning

Some rain overnite, was around 32, caused some accidents. 36 now.

Lots of good reading here this morning, not too many ailing although food poisoning is not a fun way to enjoy a sandwich. Don't let anyone tell you grits will help. The way to work with a sore foot is to use a one foot ladder :). Happy friday the 13th which is on sunday this month.

GREG M.  nice cutting board.  Glad you used plug cutting instead of dowel.  Looks alot better.  I teach our HS kids to make a cutting board as their first project.  They get to use all the tools and get all the reps they need to feell comfortable on jointer, planer, and table saw.  I feel the more reps you get on these pieces of equipment the better off and more comfortable they will be on it.  Well done!

Stay frosty,

 Happy Sunday!!

Well, the news is I have food poisoning.  As Karma would have it, I got it from a Philly Cheesesteak at the Mall.  I'm on meds and a bland diet of banana, rice, applsesauce, toast, yogurt and gatoraide - and of course, last night, the family got pizza.  It's gonna be a looooong week.

I used to race slant 6's.  I had a '71 Dodge Demon and did VERY well in it, later stuck a 340 then later a 360 in it.  Sold it in 2002 ( I bought it in 1975) after the divorce papers were served.

Spent the (very rainy day) building a layout for a friend.  Almost done, will need to ad foam, grass paper and then track.  Delivery tomorrow.

Angel - for you sick guys

Good Job Fife - did Navy win?

SJ = CONGAS on the 3K!!

Will catch u later

Spent the last 2 days catching up on sleep. Podiatrist did take the stitches out yesterday, but wants me to wear the brace another week. She was happy that it was healing so well though. Asked if I had been on it much...big hesitation on my part, after all I've been at work..."Well, whatever you are doing it's ok, just don't try anything else." I decided not to tell her I was on a ladder working on an HVAC unit.

8n - the slant six is a great engine. I had the industrial version in a Cortez motorhome, proof that gearing works.

Chief and Dennis - take care of yourselves.

Crawled under the house when I got back to light the heater. One of the old under floor units. Had to put a bag over my foot to keep from getting it in the dirt. And yes, we do use heaters in Arizona.

Big party across the alley tonight. From one of their overly loud PA broadcasts I found out it was the university cheer squad. I often find it hard to believe I work at a place of higher education. They've toned it down a bit, must have gotten a talk'n to. REALLY cheesy music though, ugh. Heck and w/ our football team, there's not much to cheer about...

Got the Amtrak ticket to got to Colorado for Christmas. They are putting  me on the bus in Raton so I wont get to see Raton Pass by train this time. I'll just have to do it again next summer. We were going over the pass at night on the way up anyway. Need to get the 'Hound ticket to Phoenix. Might as well do that now since I'm up...

Braved Costco today to use up a giftcard someone gave me years ago for helping them out w/ their car. Used it to by stuff for the food pantry at the church.

Thoughts and prayers for those in need.

Wow, 3000 Posts!  Congrats, SJ!

Today, I did laundry and grocery shopping with my daughter while my wife chaperoned our son around with his girlfriend.  Then, I wanted a new tv. The old one is 15 years old and the picture is getting darker and darker now. It is time. Okay, I picked up a tv and of course we had to have a new tv stand. I got a flat screen, 42 inch wide, should be plenty big. It's 120 Hz, which is supposed to be good.  First, the guy at the store keeps bugging me and then, while I am trying to get the van open and seats recessed out of the way, he rolls the cart out with everything on it and stops under a freaking waterfall (raining in St. Louis) - eek! Then, we spend 3 hours putting everything together and the tv won't fit on the included bracket - need a new one! What a day, I am worn out!  Can't test it or anything.  Tomorrow, I will take all the old components off the old entertainment center and get that out of the way.  Then, we are going to a friends for a birthday party.  Then, I guess we will stop and get a new bracket (max width of the center bar part is 6.5 inches!) that sticks out at least 0.25 inch to clear the hangers.  And then, I hope, we will finally be able to see if this tv actually works!  Hoo-Boy!

Pat or Mike, please drive tonight - I'll be in the Baker Lounge with a couple cold Miller Lites!  SJ, we'll use the wayback circuit and grab some of that turkey when we come and get you Wink

SJ,

       Congrats on the 3K.

I spent the night working on the 4 piece 302. I got a new harness installed and let it run for about ten minutes in each direction to help seat the brushes. It wasn't smoking too good so I gave it a good dose of AN1 smoke fluid ( original Gilbert formula), and I'll let it sit to see if the wick softens. If it doesn't, I get to do a rebuild. I still need to install a new link coupler, but I didn't feel up to the task tonight.

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI which was perfect for Christmas shopping.  Except for a few local gift cards and one book, that task is complete.  Went to YMCA and did weights and soccer drills(16 touches) last night then watched "Dollhouse".  Went to Y again this morning for same routine.  Chief, thanks for the link.  NC is one of the country's hotbeds for soccer (that and NASCAR....go figure).  Fifedog, just remember,"Niedermeyer.......dead!"  :-)   Doug M.,  I have not watched either one of those shows, but there have been others "based in Indiana".  One had a lawyer in it and they made references to places in Indiana, but always showed the staehouse as where court was held.  Quite frankly, any show that purports to be based in Indiana and does not show the characters spending at least one day in May at the World's Greatest Speedway can not be realistic.

I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Evening everyone.  Chief, sorry for sharing the crud....it has been a battle I am losing at this point.  Had quite a day.  Had to give the kids baths and got a phone call from one of the guys on call.  He had purchased some pancake breakfast tickets at Applebees and his wife and kids were not able to make it.  On his way in to do rounds, he dropped them off and that gave me an easy breakfast for the kids.  Then we had the violin recital at the church.  Kids both did well.  I had thought they were a little behind, but in comparison, they are quite good.  After that, came home and did some honey do's as wife is working today.  Cooked some dinner and watching a program on sniper weapons on Military channel.  Only train related item is that I won a auction for a SW1 with TMCC, Odyssey, etc. for $149.  That ought to go over well with SWMBO.

Fife, regarding the midshipmen and your duty,Thumbs UpThumbs Up

Sir James, I note that the next post you make will be #3000.  CONGRATULATIONS!  You certainly have been a asset to this forum, Thanks.

Hope everyone has a blessed weekend.

Fife,

I was reading an article the other day about how the Crown Vic only has a few years left for police service. Some of the replacment options look interesting.

I decided to unwrap 342AC that I bought for Christmas just to be sure it is ready to go, and what I saw left me speechless. Normally, I get angry with used items due to how beat they are, but there are ZERO signs of use on this 342 other than a handful of paint rubs from being in the wrapper. The commutator is spotless and there are no marks of any kind on the wheels. Not totally convinced, I removed the grease pan. The original grease is still good and there are no signs of use on the gear. I have not tested it as I will wait until Christmas to do that.

Good morning all, woke up to more rain this morning.  Ate a hearty breakfast after shower and shine then got ready to go to TCA Christmas meet.  Only one problem.  The meet is not until next week, December 19th.  Glad I caught it before I drove all the way over there and found a dark hall.  I will just have to eat the desert I was going to bring.

DonBaker, hope I didn't send you on a wild goose chase to the non meet.

Chief, stay out of drafts and get rid of that cough.

Ole Timer,

Regarding the salt instead of sugar story,  how does that happen unless you fill the sugar bowl from your salt box?  I remember that same problem from the movie, "Coal Miner's Daughter" where Loretta makes a pie for the auction with salt instead of sugar.  Her boy friend gets to eat it and does a quick reject.

Buckeye, Chief is spending too much time playing with those beavers and is neglecting you.

After the rain here we will be sending you Northeasterners some more snow.  Enjoy!

Ray

Aloha. Boy, it feels warm today in sunny northern Illinois. It's up to 30. Hope you're feeling better, Chief. My sinuses are killing me. I haven't slept for a week it seems. Bob, I haven't seen a working Aspen in years. 8nt, would love to listen to your bride's presentation. Brutus, Ack! Girlfriends seem harder to deal with then boyfriends. I just followed Fife's advice to be cleaning my machete when the boys came over and that seemed to work - that and the Trunk Monkey. The GFs all just seem loony. Greg, let me join the chorus of praise for your work. Back to church with the youngest for today's Christmas shows -  he's very worried we'll miss visiting with Santa with all this singing. Candidly, I have to find one around here to go see. Maybe we'll end up writing to him. He was as cute as can be 40 7-6-5-year olds can be singing Christmas carols at the top of their lungs.

Hello from sunny and cold Southern Ohio

Chief – Hope you get over the crud soon.  Sounds like you should not be driving anywhere with the meds.

Jon – We are all blessed, sometimes we need to be reminded, Thanks

Buckeye – I would get in trouble at a train shop.  It is good the closest is an hour and a half away.

Jim F- Things will speed up now!  Good Luck and prayers for keeping a tight rein on the dating.

8NTruck – I’ve had two of the slant 6’s, one in 72 Dart and another in a 71 Duster.  Lots of room to work on them!

GregM – Beautiful work!

Going to do some outside decorating.  Nice to be home during daylight hours for a change!

May God bless

Jim
