HI GYZ,

35 and frosty here today getting up to 53.  Gotta suck up leaves for the last time today, and blow out the gutters on house with leaf blower.  Gotta help the neighbor ladies too.  Then watch DA BEARS beat up on the BEAGLES, I hope.

Stay frosty,

laz57

Aloha all. Looks like a beautiful day here - November is making up for October, that's for sure. I'll be home with the youngest who apparently is sick. I'll leave that discernment to the bride who has a plan to get him better by the time we planned to leave for the east coast tomorrow. Everyone else at church - son playing in the band, bride with the teen ministry. Maybe I can set him up in bed before a TV and take a nap.Wink Glad you're OK, Lee, and didn't break anything falling off the roof. Prayers for all. Even for the Bears

Bob,

The 4 piece 302s just have more screws than their one piece counterparts. Here is how the 4 piece comes apart after it is separated from the tender.

1. Pull out boiler front and unsolder wires.

2. Unscrew brass tube in stack.

3. Remove screws holding linkage to boiler.

4. Remove screw holding pilot to steamchest, then remove screw holding steamchest to boiler.

5. Remove two screws holding motor into boiler.

6. Remove two screws holding jack panel to cab and turn panel so that it clears the cab.

7. Slide rear of motor forward so that it clears the motor mounts, then the motor can be removed from the boiler.

That's really all there is to it. As long as you don't make my mistake and let the panel screws get lost in the newspaper that you were working on top of (which was thrown away), the job is easy.

Laz ... you lucky rascal ... I used to hunt pheasants with a passion ... all the land/farm fields got bought up and there's houses on all of them within a 15 mile area ... NO PHEASANTS .... so much for wanting to live in the country years ago . I used to get 3 or 4 every year for thanksgiving dinner ... Sigh . Man do I miss pheasant hunting ! Maryland's posted to the hilt ... about all the open land for bird hunting is history .

Charlie ... nice lil buck there ... my grand-daughters threaten me for killing them anymore ... I just quit telling them what they're eating ... LOL . Still digging and dragging out xmas decorations ... gonna do it big time this year . Going gun shopping next week ... don't know why but that little voice says I need another one or maybe 2 ... wife does'nt agree ... 3 gun safes full but ...... Whistling ... not counting the ammo chests and accesories chests full ... LOL . Of course that .45 acp that puts a lump in my pillow does'nt count .... pity the first home invader that comes here .... Dead .

Good Afternoon from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny 52 degrees. Going up to 58 today with mostly sunshine.

Today is an easy day. I was busy this morning. Now, to relax and enjoy the rest of the day. I am going to run trains for a couple of hours and then watch the last Nascar race. I hope #48 wins. It's a long wait until Daytona.

Dining car was here from "Points West" with the usual breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday.

Brutus
Howdy guys - St. Charles in February might be doable, I'll have to check into that Smile  My wife has been on transfusions since April and erinest (SP?) shots.  Right now, the schedule has her in the hospital the first week of January and then that should last about 4 to 6 weeks after the chemo and the transplant is done.  Thanks for the prayers and they are out for all you guys too, esp Bob, Bob, Bill's wife, JimSP, Jeffrey, Brent, Chief, Dennis & family, Jack....  I'm sure I'm forgetting some, so prayers for all of us and our loved ones.

It has been over a week since I checked into the pot, so I quoted Brutus to try and make sure I did not miss anyone in need of prayers.  Prayers and best wishes to all of those in need of them.

It seems that time just flies as I get older and it is harder to find time to log on even once a day, guess that is because it seems to take longer to do everything. Smile

A week from today will be a special event at the RR Museum of PA, free admission with a gift of a nonperishable food item for the "Food Bank" or a toy for "Toys for Tots" If you are in driving distance that should be excuse enough to make a visit. Hours are 12 Noon to 5 PM. I expect to be there as a volunteer so look me up if you decide to come.

Along with just about everything else in PA the Museum has taken a hit in the budget with a 40% cut in funding.  Nine of the 16 full time employees have been laid off.  Looks like the volunteers will be carrying even more of the load in the future.

Will sign off now as I need to post some pics on SPF today.

Mornin' All.

Slept in a bit this morning, unfortunately still pooped.

Yesterday was a very long day at the museum, only two of us for operations, but a lot of visitors. Seems as one of the cruise ships is de-parting today and quite a few of the cruisers spent the day in the park. Thumbs Up

Jon, If you had come by yesterday you cold have had you own line to run if you wanted. Smile I had three mains occupied, both uppers and one lower. The lower main had my RI E-6's pulling the streamliners. On the upper Thomas & Percy were running doubleheaded with the other upper main being shared by a pair of 19th century 4-6-0's, smoking up a storm much to the dismay of some of our HO neighbors. Blush Later in the day I had 'em running up-n-down the transition line and man you should have seen the smoke those 4-6-0's would put out using the "laboring chuff" function with DCS. Evil Whistling

Today is going to be a "Veg-out" day mostly, although I do need to finish the Thanksgiving menu and hit the grocery. Chef

Later all !

Thanks for the visit Jon & Sharyl. I just might have to start an "On-Line" scrapbook of CTT visitors. Approve

Bob, There is no direct link between the two groups, although they do share a lot of the same members on their rosters. The "Goat Canyon Trestle" is a thing of beauty, the HO club here has a model of it on their layout.

Thanks Doug, Sharyl says it was like being at home talking three rail, very comfortable and one beautiful set up!  We had a fun day just being tourists yesterday and feel fairly comfortable getting around.  Turned in the rental car today and now sitting at Lindberg airport waiting to get on the tin can, headed for Huston--short layover and then straight north.  Long day today but we both feel well rested and ready to be at home, we've been in motels/hotels the 9 out of 11 days on the road.  Of course that wedding started it off.  Time to go home.  We do have photo's of your layout to load when we get home!

Enjoying the transition to  night shift. Got a few hours of sleep and got up to get something to eat. May try to catch a few more hours before I come on shift tonight. Foot is doing better after being off of it for a bit. Since I'm not travelling today things seem to be a bit easier.

Doug - a scale model of the GCT? Wow. The real thing is definitely impressive too. I've done some crazy hikes to out of the way places, but what we saw there takes the cake.

Jim - I think it is the 4 piece version then. Jim S.'s photos on the SPF had me drooling.

Anj - prayers for your daughter.

Need to book the train trip up to C. Springs over Christmas before things get crazy. Looking forward to going over Raton Pass on the train. Then maybe off to clean a switch or two before I find a pillow for a bit.

Cloudy, dry and 50's here today.

We've been discussing some of our remodeling plans over the past week.  They are changing slightly, as we are guessing that in not too many years we will want a house with the bedroom on the ground floor.  So, our plans to move the claw foot tub upstairs have been replaced with installing a new built in tub upstairs and leave the claw foot downstairs.  Leaving the claw foot downstairs does not break my heart, but it does change the plumbing needs upstairs a little - electrics too as we've decided on a whirlpool.

Summbob - I sympathise with you about climbing around an industrial setting hauling crutches.  Years ago, I sprained my ankle playing vollyball.  Before it healed, I had a chance to tour the cyclatron at MSU.  Was a good tour too, got down into the innards of the thing, manuvering about on the grating floor and ducking pipes while on crutches.

About all for now.

HI GYZ,

Well just got done  blowing out guters, sucking up leaves, then running a nice easy 4 miler.  Weather was just perfect, WIFE and JANEDOG went along to old RR bed to join me they walked I ran.

OLE TIMER, we use to have a buch of farms to hunt at but the land was sold and now there is a development on them.  Guess what name they put on the development?  You guessed it PHEASANT ESTATES.  Wasn't that a slap in the face to the hunters.  Anyway we still have 3 farms that allow us to hunt.  We used to have 6.  We'd put up anywhere from 60-70 birds a year, get a bunch, great eating, shining times.  Oh well like anything else I guess it progress?

Stay frosty,

Evening all.  Went to Sunday School and then left for Mom's.  Took her a meal.  Pam and I fixed and set up everything.  Mom's mind is getting real bad.  Gets confused if things change from routine.

Went to pond and fed deer.  Saw 4.  Cleaned out spillway.  Either beavers came over and tried to stop it up with sticks and moss or one of the 4 trespassers kicked it in from the bank while fishing.  Yes, caught 4 trespassers.  Claimed they were kin to the A-A lady living at the top of the hill.  Told them she did not have control of the pond.  They packed up and left.  Funny thing was, when I drove up behind their truck at the cable, they started walking back toward me and were hooking up their hooks in the rod eyes.  If they thought they had permission, why did they do that?  They were very nice and left.  I guess you are nice if the guy has a 9mm auto sticking out of his front pocket. Whistling

Rich, do you have a traveling car on the way here?

Well, time to do some town work [letter to write].

Later.

Evening all

Three services today and a funeral in the morning!  Crazy busy.

All the talk of the multipie 302's prompted me to post that picture.  I really like the late 40's and early 50's diecast locos.  I'll put up more next week of an early 300 and 310.

Rich - I mailed out two cars in one box this past Friday.  Let me know when you get them.  The rotation is a few months from complete I'd think.

Good night and may God bless

Good evening all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 50s.  Went down to Bloomington to visit daughter and he family.  She had a nice meal for us and a nice day.  Went to McDonald's for breakfast this morning.  TBIL, and I am ready to help with the power problem.  My first choice in that situation is more lock-ons.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Rich - prayers for your daughter, hope all is well!  Prayers out for all and families.

More Lock-ons, of course!  Must be a power drop!  Sounds like we can Do This!  Laugh  Ready to fly, waiting for the passionate pheasant beacon to be lit Wink

Started off with some plans for today, but twisted my back again before lunchtime, so mostly spent the day with an old pillow in the recliner, just watching tv.  Talked with a friend about some wiring problems on his layout - he finally figured out his old 1033 died!

John (JEF) sorry to hear about that layoff at the museum - man, that is too bad Sad

Good evening all, completed final day of Cal Stewart meet in Pasadena, Ca.  Helped run trains again on the DCS demonstration layout.  Also spent a lot of time playing with a stationary steam engine one of the guys bought at the meet.  It had a neat little whistle on it and we almost wore it out.

I picked up another Golden Gate Depot 80 ft passenger car today.  This one is a Pullman with lighted interiors, tinplate wheels and couplers.  It has 12 sections and one drawing room.  Beautiful car.  I need to get some more of these to make a train.  They look fine on my 072 and 096 curves.

50th Wedding anniversary coming up on Thanksgiviing day.  We will be heading to San Diego on Thursday to spend the week end celebrating.

later,

Ray

 Evening to All,

Have not checked in in quite a while,  been so busy with work.  Early morning meetings and late nights. Kids are off the next two days, so I have 9 days in a row without students and teachers. Economy is really hitting some folks hard.  Every week I hear of at least one family who has lost a job. One family lost job in September, dad found a job end of October, only to get a pink slip this past week because a contract that the company was negotiating fell through.  We have seen 50% increase in free and reduced meals this school year and probably have a bunch more who could qualify if they weren't too proud to apply.

Not too much happening on the train front. I haven't even cracked open the new CTT yet.  Maybe I won't be so exhausted and will have some time to read it this week.  Got to get the layout cleaned and operating.

Take care,

Mitch

Good evening everyone.  Came home from HotLanta this evening.  Tired from the drive as just about the whole way was a rain storm.  Got interesting, but we arrived safe.  Had a good time visiting in-laws.  Since we brought my MIL and her husband, I told my wife and her sister that they "owe me one".  Was all good though.  I am on call this week, so we celebrated Thanksgiving early.  We will still have a Turkey this Thursday that I will cook in the new "Oil-Less Fryer" that we picked up from Home Depot.com.  I'll report on how it comes out.

Doug, hope Ben is doing better.  Brutus, hope things are going well with your bride and that she can get the marrow transplant taken care of real soon.  For a number of folks here facing issues, I will be lifting up prayers.

God Bless,
Dennis

Evening all. May not be able to get online very often at my mom's as she has limited Internet access, but I will try to check in. Looks like Ben is a little better but the bride is now sick. We'll go anyway... Ohio overnight tomorrow. Then hopefully Connecticut on Tues. eve.

Dennis, look forward to hearing how that bird cooks!

Ray, an early congratulations on 50 years! May I celebrate that milestone someday!

 Good Evening All !

One more weekend filed away,  First all and foremost Prayers for those in need and families.  This can be a very comfortable season begining, and very stressful as well.  Definetly try to stay close to the true meaning, it certainly will help in keeping it all in prospective !

Had a good day working yesterday am, (every time we set a new record at that particular venue.)  Then went up to the Cal Stewart meet in Pasadena.  Saw Ray, and boy did he ever get a really nice car!!  It is sharp !!  I got to see the combo he picked up on Sat., didn't see his trophy on Sunday.  The car has 6 wheel trucks, and flanges on all 6 wheels.  The detailing is tremendous, and talk about big??  80' scale !!  (BTW Ray, did you pick up my door prize?)

I did pick up a track inspection truck, MTH town center Clock.  It actually has a quartz movement, will look good on the layout.  Aso got some Dept 56 highway sections, and a piece of 3' ft sq. section Cobblestone matting.  (Will place it around our church.)  My wife and I spent 2 1/2 hours checking the place out, she really was enjoying it.  Spent some time with a guy running a pair of double 72' helix's.  I had loaned him some stuff to run, they really did good.  I messed up and instead of letting him have an engine with Cruise Control, let him have a couple of MPC type.  One was the FM, Virgianian, so it was running fast down hill and did need power adjusted up the incline.  Also when we originally discussed it, there was only 1 helix, so loaned him a C80 xformer, on fastrack (had a 84" straight between the helix's).  Thought that would be fine.  With the 2 helix's it was still doing well with only 1 lockon!  (Roy, cudos!!)  mI was surprised it did so well!

Looking forward to this week, will get some time in train room!!  Hurray !

Regarding CPI (whats the acronym stand for), I have Doug M's car, and will ship it later this week.  Didn't want it to arrive until Jon was safely home.  Only have one more here and that would be the Jon "Deere Car."

Son planning on going hiking tomorrow, up to Mt. Baldy and back in one day, (approx. 8,000 ft), about 4 miles up, and 4 miles back.  Going with a friend from work, who is a former Park Ranger in the area.  So will be glad when we know they are back to the car.

Hope all have a great day !!!

And, God Bless.

Spanky, prayers for your family.  Glad to hear your Dad is making some progress even though his injury is pretty bad.  Sorry to hear about your Mom's situation.  Prayer that your family can work it out to care for her until your Dad is on his feet again.

Don, thanks for the compliment about the Golden Gate scale combine.  I added the 80 ft. pullman today and boy does that look good with the lights on and all the interior stuff lit up.  I would like to get at least three of these pullmans eventually and then I can run them on any road.  They make all my regular stuff look like toys which I guess they really are.  Nothing wrong with that but just mentioned it for comparison.

Doug, thank you for the good wishes for our 50th.  Prayer that you will have one too.

PS Don, I didn't see any door prize for you but don't feel bad, I did'nt win anything either.  I forgot to mention that it was nice to meet your lovely wife.  She seems like a very nice person.  Sorry we didn't have more time to chat at the meet.

Off to bed now and sleep I hope.  I'm really bushed from all the activity of the last three days.  Got to get rested up for the holidays.

Good night all,

Ray

Observing is going fairly smoothly and the Taiwanese are here. Had some fun earlier though. One of the IF modules wouldn't lock up and I went in to check on it. Darn near passed out when I walked into the computer room. No, it wasn't me this time, the blower motor went out. We have the doors to the outside cranked open and some portable fans running. Spent a little bit of time on a ladder poking around (I know, I know, but I can't stay away from the stuff...) and found a replacement motor from MSC. It'll be fun to get the blower out. We have four of these pulse air units and they mounted each one upside down and  backwards. It'll be one of those, ok slide it out, but not all the way, find the blower set screw and loosen it, and then slide it back in so we can drop the motor. Fun, but John is here w/ me so I'll mostly just hand tools tomorrow.

8ntruck - a cyclotron tour on crutches?! Now that's entertainment! The worst we have is the stairs but I been taking it slow. Today has been much better since I didn't have to get here in the first place.

Jim S. - that 342AC(?) is a beauty.

DJspanky - Wow. What a week. Prayers for you and the family.  Hang in there and keep us posted.

Finished watching the America by Rail Heartland video. Enjoyed that a lot. May have to find their video of the Cumbres and Toltec pushing a steam rotary plow. I have the West Coast video for later.

Take it easy up there  Bob!  Sounds like it has been keeping you on your toes...which is a good thing.
Spanky, parents often do that...not telling us about issues they are having.  Something about not wanting to "bother" us.  My mother had not told my dad how serious her surgery was and also did not tell him my thoughts about a less invasive approach.  Your Dad probably didn't want to concern you about your mom.  The other thought is that often, the ones who are always there see the changes the least as it happens over time and they don't relate to how someone has changed.  Glad you were able to be there to help out.

Well, I am on call and will go in later, but have baked a White Chocolate and Caramel Cheesecake for work.  It is on the wire rack and I am waiting while it cools.  Have to release the spring form pan and then let it cool.

Hope it is a good week for everyone.
God Bless,
Dennis
