Good Evening

50s today, a decent temp for November.

A few morning errands and goofed off the rest of the day.

Waiting for the Tardis with banilla and rootbeer ready.

Time for some loop-d-loops....S.J.

Ray--

I too wish we had more time here, perhaps in 6 months the boss will need to come back again (she does come out here twice a year) and at that point I can take off and head your direction and also hook up with Don.  It's good to have something to look forward to.

8ntruck--

You are right about the full throttle when the hook grabs the cable, that was explained clearly today.  They did that in case they missed the cable and they could take right off again.  When they hit the deck they are going about 160 MPH and stop in two seconds ............... at that point a man stands in front of the aircraft and signals the pilot to throttle back and move to the side for storage as the next plane lands in about 1 minute .............  It was interesting to see the Ronald Reagan aircraft carrier across the bay, nuclear powered.  The only fuel on board is for the jets.  Would love to tour that ship, probably will never happen.

Good Morning All: (I'm sure its past everyones bedtime, us yougun's are still going strong.)

Jon,  Sounds like your having a good time.  Would be a good time for a little "shaker", eh, Doug?  Would hate for you to miss out on all the local features.  Honestly, if you only had 2+ hours for Sea World you wouldn't have gotten to see much.  It probably worked out for the best.  If you get a chance while your in S.D., and get to look at the tall buildings downtown, they are interesting.   Often referred to as a tool box.  The tops of the buildings are unusual, there are three hex shapped buildings of various heights that look like sockets standing on end, another pair of buildings have star shaped tops, that appear to be a couple of phillips screwdrivers, and a wedged shaped building that looks like a slotted screwdriver.  There are a couple of others also, but I forget what they are.  Don't miss the Train museum!!!  It is one of the very best I have ever seen.  What I have always noticed is the smallest area is dedicated to O scale, and yet it always, seems to have the most interest.  And it always is the busiest.  Doug and his crew have done a fantastic job!!  Don't worry about not making it up here on this trip, there is always next time.  Just enjoy the time you have, that's the most important.  (Wouldn't suggest going to Black's Beach, though.  You might find it a little cold.)  I will wait until I hear your home before I ship Doug Murphys car, either by a post on forum or email.

Had some interesting time the past couple of days.  Working with a friend (Lloyd), helping him with getting a display ready for the up coming Cal-Stewart meet.  He has been making helix's for N-Scale and HO, for the past couple of years.  Convinced him to try an O'Scale:

So yesterday, we discussed some display options with what he currently had cut-out, settled on a O 72, 1 1/2 helix, then today I found out he is going to have enough material for a "Double Helix".  (Having 2 operating together.  Some very interesting stuff going on!  He is a "Master Carpenter" and just getting more and more involved in trains.  He didn't have a piece of O scale track, and doesn't have any O scale engines, etc..  So we discussed minimum and maximum requirements and dimension needs to determine feasibility of producing a "low-cost" kit.  He has done it!  Extremely reasonable on price, and designed rock solid.  I would have no concern running my Legacy Big Boy on it.  The grade is less than 2% and has a 6 5/8" vertical clearance.  Discussed footprint of various other sizes, all the way down to 36" diameter.  The 36 is indeed doable, but would be more oblong than a "true" helix,  But still looking good.  He is going to be displaying/introducing the O scale version in the Layout Section of Cal Stewart.  (Same area Ray is going to be working in.)  I will see if I can steal away some time and help him setup on Friday.  I'm thinking this could be a good item for a York show.  You regular York guys, are there any Helix's displayed at York?  I would think, there would be interest.

Mornin’ Boys,

Fog and clouds right now up to 78 or so.  Kinda describes my mood “fog & clouds”.Sigh

Don B, That is a nice helix.  Thumbs Up

Angel for everyone – really going through a rough patch here, so there hasn’t been anything new – I’ve trying to get caught up at work.   They’re not selling cars but keeping me busy, just the same.

With everything going on at home, I COMPLETELY forgot about Take your Train to Work Day tomorrow.  I’ll have to check and see if I can get something together.  Weather here should be the best in 3 years, so I can do this outside.

I haven’t heard from the Philly job, I was supposed to call them yesterday, but I wound up going to Ocala at the last minute.  Thank God, I didn’t miss my appointment last night, it would have killed me.

OK, well, I’ll check back later.

Good morning all,

It is cool again today in SE Indiana with the rain ending sometime.  Patrick, I should have mentioned you need to up the power on the stabilizers two notches when Don's neighbor is on-board.  You may have to steal some power from the communication systems, but well.... it IS worth the sacrifice.    Brent, good to hear from you, and I have been there are far as the amount of time you have (not) been spending with the Q.  Just tell her, "this too shall pass"....and duck.  Dennis, sounds like you are making progress on the movie, and I like the statements you made about the forum as well.

Did weights, soccer drills (12 touches!) and treadmill (13:45 mile jog) last night.  Watched "Glee".  That show will have you ROTFLMAO one minute and tearing at your hear the next.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL, and we can flip coins to see who drives.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning

40s with some showers last nite. Not much though.

I smell breakfast, boy I sure would miss that cook. I will be taking granny to visit her sisters today, about an hour and a half drive. Looked through OGR yesterday but no reading yet. Had a chat with Brutus and  RT last night.

Have a great day...S.J.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a gloomy 50 degrees. Only going up to 55 today, with cloudy skies. It rained on and off last night.

Today is a busy day. Wife is grocery shopping in Cambridge.  Gas prices are still high. $2.69 a gallon. That's strange, since oil prices are still low.

I need to run trains today. Hopefully. Legs are achy, due to humidity.

Dining car was here from " Points West ". We had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Thursday.

Pat, speaking of dove hunting, a friend of mine used to tell me about going.  I guess the b**ast is the only part big enough to eat and you have to have several I gather.  Haven't had any game to eat in years.  My brother in Virginia hunts in the Winter but it's too hard for me to do now.  Too far to drive etc etc.  I've even just about given up on fishing which I love but we are too far from the good places.  Do people still eat squirrel?  Seems like they were eating gray squirel in the winter months when I was a kid back in the 40's but maybe it was because of meat rationing during WWII,  Squirrel looks too much like a rat to me.  We used to have wild rabbit but that was pretty good.  Of course Venison is what most hunters like or pheasant and quail.

Glad you got your corn in before the weather got you.

Ray

Ray - You are right. The b**ast is the only part of a dove worth fooling with and it takes us three a piece for a meal.

Here in Virginia we hunt deer, turkey, dove, quail, bear, squirrel, rabbit, pheasant  and would you believe raccoon? These are hunted as food.

In addition, here on the farm, we also hunt ground hog, possum, rats and a few wild dogs when they go after the animals. Coyotes are said to be in our area but I haven't seen them.

Speaking of WWII meat ratoning, I remember my dad comming home with great tasting meat, great untill we found out it was horse meat!

Any farmers ponds near by for fishing? Some of the best fishing is in farmer's ponds, and you help reduce the fish numbers.

Morning all.  Being lazy as have had several long days and nights.  Watching WWII in HD on History Channel.  Pretty good.  Now going to gym to work out.  Raining [what is new].  Talked to "lake folks" last night and they said bring camera.  Lake is as high as it has ever been in years.  No parking sign at ramp is about under water.   Might just have to take time and drive up to photo.  Got too much on "calendar".

Jim T, not familiar with them but they are a NC business so they are great.  Also, try Miss Edna [Todd's Train Depot] for things like that [919-365-5006].

Sir J, had my big bowl of grits this AM along with two slices of toast with butter and strawberry jam.

Jon, good talking to you last night.  Enjoy sunny CA.  Don't SHAKE or BAKE.  Shock

Cloudy, gloomy and rainy today. The cows don't mind, the pastures love it, and I get to be inside with the trains. Not to shabby!

Jon - The $81.00 fee for Seaworld makes the $7.00 cost for a major train show look like a bargain.

Mike C - Thanks for the tip on stealing power for the Tardis. What inquiring minds want to know is what were you stealing from Don's neighbor!

I have a box setting here from Trainz.com. Can't remember what all I ordered. Better open it and find our.

Evening everyone

Hope all are doing well.  Continued prayers for those in need.

Nothing new on the train front, missed out on a 600 crossing gate on the bay tonight.  Someone else wanted it more.  There are a couple others I'm looking at but they will need to be restored.  I have two 592 crossing gates waiting on me now to restore.

Fife - put her up on blocks is like when we winterize the camper.  Pretty well says not going to be used till next year.  I have not winterized the camper, but there is slim chance to go camping anymore this year.

Good night and may God bless

Good Evening everyone! Been a long day of it as I went in early for a case that didn't get going till 11am.  Long case too as was a very sick patient.  Went better than expected, but still makes for a long day.  Called bride before leaving and we made arrangements to go to TexaStar Steak house for some steak and shrimp.  Also had some Pecan Cobbler with ice cream....yum!

Pat, we have all those, and Hogs too.  They can be right mean when you shoot them!  We have bear, but I have never seen one in the woods here.  Have seen them in NJ and out in CO, but not GA.  Also, some folks here still eat possum.  Too greasy to my taste, but some like it.  Also, squirrel is eaten by some, but I just shoot them....tree rats!

Jon, have  a great time.  Wife and I were at the Del for a meeting a few years ago.  She absolutely loved the hotel.  May have to make that trip again soon.  Real Estate is quite high there, but to visit is a nice thing.  Hope you have  a good time at the train museum and a safe trip home.

Chief, may be able to jump off your front porch into the lake if it rises any more.  Hope they get things under control soon.

We are going to SILs this weekend.  Celebrate Thanksgiving early as I will be on call Thursday and she is working too.  Wife likes to get together, and this year, we are driving MIL up as well.  Should be a hoot! ....I feel a headache coming on.

Have a blessed weekend ahead.

Good evening all,

Don, I did'nt see the picture of the helix until after your phone call today.  I am very impressed.  You were right.  This guy does very nice work.  I could visualize using one of those things inside of a tunnel to gain elevation in a short distance.  I will see what I can do tomorrow and Saturday to make him feel welcome at Cal Stewart and see if I can be of any assistance if he needs any.  Hope he can make a go of it..  Probably go over big at York.  Too bad your local club was unable to use one of these.

Laz, thanks for the comments about squirrels.  I wonder if the city squirrels are any different than the ones in the wooded parts of the country?  We have loads of them here but they look like they are full of fleas and God knows what.  They are bold here in the suburbs because no one hunts them.  You can walk up to within a foot or two of them before they run.  Years ago, I remember sitting in the woods for hours without seeing one.

Pat, never had any horse meat but remember Dad brought home some tripe one time.  Mexican American folks use it in muneudo which is a spicey hot soup.  They say it is good for a hangover.

Chief, lets see some pictures of the high water at the lake.

Made some oyster stew today and it was delicious.  First time I had any this year.  Prices are good around Thanksgiving and this is the best time of year for them.  I had about three bowls and got overheated from eating all that hot liquid.  I might try to fry some when I get more ambitious.  Pacific oysters are a lot bigger than their Atlantic cousins.  Looks like you would have to cut them up a little to fry them.  I still have some good water ground corn meal that ought to be good for breading.  Nothing like the Chesapeake Bay oysters though.  I don't think they get any now because of bad water.  We used to eat those raw but now it's too risky.

Am going to try and get down to the Pasadena Convention Center tomorrow and do what I can to help set up the DCS demonstration layout we are running for Cal Stewart.  Might take a train down to run during the show too.

Have a good night y'all

Ray

Howdy guys - nice chat tonight with RT and then with Doug and SJ Thumbs Up  Solved some world problems, but nobody would believe us Laugh

Neat Helix - love it!  I'd love to have room for something like that someday.

No trains today - everything is still covered to protect against that concrete work.  No CTT yet either, but maybe it will show up tomorrow or Saturday?

Prayers and I hope it's just the weather for your legs, Chuck.

Tardis is Ready to fly and we should probably go over and see if John Baker needs a ride somewhere based on those gas prices he's paying, yikes!  I routed power through the main dish and created a feedback loop, more than tripling the output to the Baker Lounge Laugh So we ought to be A-OK tonight!  Let's go!

Jim,

I also had my eye on that 600, but I need to slow down for a bit. That was a great piece, and I am glad that I had to work tonight.Smile,Wink, & Grin Would you like me to watch for 600s for you?  I check ebay about six times a day, so I could let you know when I see one. Your 592s sound like a fun project. I am considering restoring my 766, but I've got to get over my tab phobia first.

I was going to post last night, but I was having some tech difficulties. I got the 766 working well, and I got my order in to Doug P. so I can get these projects finished in time for Christmas.

Bright yellow object in the sky today.  Turned the sky a funny blue color instead of the normal gray - weird.

Wife's MRI went without incident.  Hopefully have word about what it indicates Friday or Monday.

The company was passing out the Thanksgiving turkeys today.  Just my wife and I this year, so we don't need one.  Left ours with the rest of the unclaimed turkeys, which will be donated to one of the local food banks.

Happy, happy, joy, joy - I won a 3665 Minuteman box car on e-bay last night.  Got it for a reasonable price too.  Always wanted one of these.

Guess that is about it for now.

Early Mornin' Fellas.

Hope to get things wrapped up at work so I don't have to put in any hours this weekend! I'm glad I have a job, but honestly this is ridiculous. Had they listened to me 1 year ago and hired the two additional staff members I recommended we wouldn't be in this position (having to work 16 to 20 hour days for three weeks straight), believe me there is more than enough work for 2 more staff members. Overheard someone say 'Well why can't he work longer hours?' Having to ask someone to work longer hours IS NOT A SOLUTION, I don't care who you are.

The stitches came out on Wednesday. Went well, did feel some tugging when he took them out, and had some discomfort afterward and all day yesterday, not as bad this morning. I'm very impressed with how it has healed. When the stitches were in there was a 1/4 bump nearly whole length of the wound, no stitches and it is pretty smooth, so shouldn't be a huge long-term problem... just a really cool looking scar!
