Good Morning

Frost on the ground this morning.Overcast but 50s later.

No plans for the day so far. # 2 son admitted to the hospital with blood poisoning. An open wound on his thumb got infected. He is doing fine and may be home today or tomorrow. Of course granny is worried, you know how mothers are.

Enjoy your day....S.J.

Morning.  4.25 inches of rain.  Going to check pond later.  Had not filled yesterday afternoon as rain has been steady but not "flooding down".  That means runoff is going in steady but not at flood stage.  48 degrees so chilly.  Do not know if I will go to the gym today or not.  Nose has finally "stuffed up".   Had my big bowl of grits this morning.   Traveling box car should be at Brent's tomorrow.  Guess he is still alive.  No posts for a few days.  Wonder if he cut something else???? Wink  Guess if he had, Susie would have let some of us know. I think I am suceeding in moving this rough weather up Nawth to Maryland.  They need some rain and wind.  [told him to install an automatic bilge pump Whistling ].  Later

Good morning all, belated thanks to all our veterans for their service.

Chief, we could use some of that rain out here.

I have to get serious about organizing my train boxes.  I am being taken over by them.  I have something in every nook and cranny but not stacked effecientlyWorked on cleaning the layout a little yesterday.  Enough dirt on it to grow vegetables probably.  So used to it, I thought it was part of the scenery.

Cal Stewart meet starts one week from tomorrow.  Where did the time go.  Got my marching orders yesterday to help out with the DCS demonstration layout at the meet.

Pat, how could you run out of grits!  That is sacrilegious.  Sounds like you have a lot of livestock.

Cooler weather here for a few days with storm front passing through but no rain.

Later,

Ray

RT,

I got the email. The items in that group don't look like they'd be worth bidding on. The one 312 looks reasonably complete though. Due to the train show on Saturday, I am trying to save some money to take with me.

I have decided to upgrade from Vista Home Premium to Windows 7 Home premium due to the amazing deal that MS is offering to college students. I have been hearing good things about 7, and the price is too good to pass up.

Pond at the edge of the bank.  About one more foot and will be up on roadway.  Getting a good flushing as water is flying over the spillway.  Deer have eaten all the corn.  Going back and putting out more.  Two big does and two little does were at the feeding site earlier.  Not much rain but windy and chilly.  Later.

BTW: soybeans are ready for combining.  no bean combining here for a while.

HI GYZ,

Ran only a mile after school then took dog for another mile and half walk.  Cleaned turtle tank out, then gotta call from BARRYs TRAIN SHOP, and my NS DASH 9 Dummy is in.  WAHOO! get to go pick it up tomorrow.  He wanted to know if I was going to the ALLENTOWN TRAIN MEET this weekend, and I'm not.  I got MOMs B DAY to celebrate on Sunday.  She'll be 86.

Surgery went well yesterday. Strange way to spend a Veteran's Day and the first one I've been off on in years. They did take something out and said it was fairly encapsulized which is a good thing. Went to sleep when I got home and woke up later w/ excrutiating pain in my foot even on the meds. Doc recommended adding ibuprofin and putting ice on it. That helped quite a bit.

Doing better today and getting used to doing some things different ways. Things just take more time.  Did the readings for the Thurs. service tonight and am resting up for that until friends pick me up.

Switches came today and they are in good shape. More to come.

Brent - how are you doing? Is the leg mending ok?

RT - nice photo for Veterans Day. As a Seabee I only slept on board the Tarawa for a few nights, but have great respect for our friends at sea and elsewhere.

Doug M. - hopefully get to the post office early next week or I may be able to have a friend get it in the mail.

Need to grab something to eat before we go. Talk to you later.

You'll love it.  Smoke, electrocouplers, oscillating ditch lights and directional lighting.  Thinking of adding sound board to it.  If it does not have "motherboard", then I will add an ERR Sound card to it.  Then it could be run as lead engine in lashup.  The way it is now, lead engine would not have horn.  Now, I have not tried it as lead in lashup.  If it works like other engines in lashup, only lead has horn.  You have a chip with it and you add it just like your other Legacy engines.  [maybe I should try it as a lead and see.  program might recognize it as not having sounds/horn and let second engine do the "blowing".]

Bob, try some Tylenol Arthritis with it.  Helps us old guys when we over do it.  Get well.

Pond really over flowing now.  Only very light rain now but windy.  Turned cold.

Good Evening Guys.  Well, it has been quite the week.  Mom died Friday night...getting the phone call from Dad was just heartbreaking.  Just finished reading the posts since then...thanks for all the prayers.  The fire department I used to work for was outstanding!  Guys came to my parent's house each morning, cooked up huge meals, cleaned up, made a lot of the arrangements for Dad, and just handled all the ancillary items, while my sisters and I along with dad handled the paperwork and getting the moneys where they needed to go.  Amazing how expensive these things are.  Also, (mind you, my parents live in the town next to Hackensack), but every engine and truck crew brought the rigs over in shifts for visitation.  Even saw a bunch of the retired guys I used to work with.

Only train related item was that my mom had a bridge that she was going to send me that was in the trunk of her car.  I brought that home.

God Bless,
Dennis

Pat - Blue Bunny Icecream makes a flavor called Bunny Tracks.

SJ - Prayers for your son!  Continued prayers for JimSP's family and for 8nT's wife and all others in need.  Found out another friend lost her job, but she has an interview set up at a local school - hope it works out asap!

Nice chats tonight with Jeffrey, RT, SJ, and Wes.  Running late to get to bed, have to get up at 6 AM.  Tardis is ready and I"ll use the wayback circuit, so let's hit it!

Sunny and low 60's again today.

My wife is now on prednizone, and has had back x-rays.  The doctor is suspecting sciatica.  She is moving around better, provided she does not over do things.   Thanks for the thoughts and prayers guys.

The missile launching trail car I got on e-bay arrived today.  Dirtier than I expected, but it will clean up.  The latches on the launching tabs do not work dependably.  Other than cleaning and polishing, anybody have any tips?  Something was rattling under the launch mechinism - suprise suprise, it was one of the brake hand wheels.  I'll glue it back in place.

Trivia for today - eyelet sizing.  Eyelets are described with an industry standard numbering system.  It is 2 digits, with the first being the diameter and the second being the length of the eyelet under the flange.  The numbers are the number of 1/32" the dimension is.  Example - a number 44 eyelet is 1/8" (4/32") diameter and is 1/8" (4/32") long under the flange.  A number 68 eyelet would be 3/16" (6/32") diameter and 1/4" (8/32") long.

Why do we care?  There are little eyelets in the innards of most of our toy train equipment.  By knowing the dimensions of the eyelet, you can find a standard eyelet and not have to use the manufacturer's 'special' part.  Knowing the numbering system will also help you find these items in the Train Tenders parts list.  These are numbered SE-XX, where 'SE' stands for standard eyelet and the 'XX' is the number for the size.  Other parts suppliers may use some similar system.

Hopefully, this information can save somebody some search time.

Speaking of search time, I was looking in the Lionel web site for an exploded diagram and parts list for my 2006 version missile firing locomotove.  All I could find was the instruction manual.  Then I started checking other newer items - no parts lists or diagrams, just instruction manuals.  Am I not looking in the right spot, or is Lionel not providing this information on their newer products?  Makes it tough to order a spare part when you don't know the part number.

Later all.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 60s.  Lucas came home late last night. Everything is ok.  He just wanted to visit and perhaps get some relationship advice.  He was impressed with the work done in the back room.  I had gone to the YMCA for weights and soccer drills.  I had bacon and biscuits on the dining car for breakfast before sending it on to "Points East".  TBIL after "Numb3rs".  Dennis, welcome back from a melancholy trip.  Thoughts and prayers are with you and your family.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mornin' boys.  Damp and a miserable 54 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Those suffering from trescadecaphobia, hang in there.

dwiemer - Held off 'til you returned.  Sincerest condolensces.  Sounds like your family had a magnificent support system.  I haven't had to face that kind of pain, but I know it's coming.  I can only hope that when that day arrives, I can face it with the strength and bravery that my son (at age 13) faced last year when his mother died.  Talk about walkin' tall.

Aloha from a sunny and warm Chicago. TGIF13. Welcome back, Dennis. An Ann Arbor RR car arrived at the interchange track yesterday. Hope to snap a few shots before it goes off again to its home rails. 1,706 miles and one year later. Sir J, may your son heal swiftly. No fooling with that sort of infection. Bob, thanks. No rush for the book.
