Partly cloudy and high 70's here today.

Bummer about the interview, Steve.  Keep digging.  Sooner or later something will turn up.

My IRBM launching flat car arrived today.  It will need some cleaning up and a new diaphram/spring.  Another reason to call Jeff at Train Tender.  Hopefully, I'll get pictures for SPH.

Anybody else's hobby shop have Lionel volume 2 catalogs yet?  Think they were supposed to be out about Sept. 1.  I stopped by my LHS today to check.  He hasn't gotten his yet.

I think my wireless network weirdness is due to signal strength - either that or Buckeye is tinkering with my computer too!.  The hub is up on 2nd floor, this computer is in the basement.  The antena for the wireless is almost at basement floor level maybe 8" from the basement wall, running parallel to the back of the computer case, which is probably grounded.  I've moved the computer away from the wall by about 3" and got an immediate increase in signal strength.  It seems to be running better tonight since I moved the computer.

I've shown up on corporate executive staff level radar again today.  Got called into the plant manager's office for a conference call meeting.  Who shows up and sits down next to me but the plant manager's boss, a VP of operations type, and says 'hi Bill'.  Like I said last week - I'd rather keep a lower profile.

Later all.

A fairly good week on the hill. A lot of cleaning, sorting, and organizing, but that is a good thing. Figured out why we get so many moths in this one light fixture. There was a 1/2 knockout missing under the ballast cover. The subreflector situation is getting more interesting. I think it's coming off for maintenance for sure.

Dennis - I think the reflux meds are helping. My blood sugar does seems to vary quite a bit. Sometimes I seem to be fighting hypoglycemia rather than the other way round. I had to stop and have second breakfast  (maybe I'm turning into a hobbit:) this morning. I also seem to need to eat more often at altitude now, and climbing four floors of stairs at 10,400' all the time may be part of it. Overall, things do seem to be better though. I'm very interested in what the diabetic education class has to say.

Steve - hang in there. Thoughts and prayers are with you.

The narrow gauge info in the latest Trains is very interesting. Noticed the map shows the Magma Arizona RR as narrow gauge at least at some point. I think the tracks are standard gauge now, but on the way to Phoenix in a few weeks I'm going to stop and measure. And I was looking at the tracks for the gypsum mine in Southern CA a few months back when we hiked to the Goat Canyon Trestle.

Home tomorrow w/ a lot of surplus in the truck. Will talk w/ the bearing guys on the way back to campus. Enjoy the weekend!

Got my local NRHS newsletter, and just learned of the heartbreaking fire that destroyed the 100 year old Helmstetter barn along the Western Maryland Scenic RR.  This is the same scene depicted on my CONNELLSVILLE SUB.  As well as the structure and equipment, 14 cows and the owner's border collie were lost.  The railfan community has rallied to the cause, and donated 22K for rebuilding, and will be running special photo freights with WM Scenic #734 to further the donations.  I have more info if needed.

Mornin' Fellas.

Been rough around work the past couple weeks. Our VP of HR's sister passed away on Tuesday from a 2 year battle with cancer. Started out as *** Cancer and eventually made its way into the bone marrow and liver. Really sad as she was only 49. Really puts life into perspective. I didn't get much sleep last night as spent most of the night reflecting on my life.

Steve - Personally I feel those tests should be outlawed. I know what they are trying to do, but they are so easy to mess up and also easy to lie on (we've had this happen at my current job). Listen to Rich (anjdevel) he knows what he's talking about. I have a 2002 BMW and I've spent who knows how much on over priced repairs. I got an online subscription to Mitchell1 online (http://www.eautorepair.net) and last night I replaced the driver's side mirror glass. Was worried that I would damage the mirror shroud, but I followed the step-by-step instructions and it went smooth as silk. Now I have to figure out how to remove the driver side headlight so I can change the headlight glass (actually plastic) as the existing light is so cloudy you can't tell there are lights inside. Tried last night but couldn't figure it out, need to research on the headlight. Also need to figure out why my passenger headlight washer is leeking and if I can fix that. Anyway, the subscription is $29.99 for a year. IMHO, it has saved me lots more than that.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 70s.  Steve,  I am sorry to hear of your troubles.  I went a year without a steady job once, and it was no fun.  I do not know your background or education, but if you have at least some college, you might check out the local school systems to be a substitute teacher.  In Indiana, you have to have 60 credit hours or an Associate Degree.  Some systems are absolutely desperate for help.   It is not steady work all the time, but it might be worth investigating.

Speaking of troubles, "my" soccer girls really got clobbered last night, 9-2.  It was a road game so I did not go (boys were at home), but last year we tied the same team 1-1.  This was a game I had marked on the schedule as winnable, but now there are only three or four potential such opportunities left.  I was not planning on going to the Friday practice as it is usually shorter, but I may drop by to gauge the mood and perhaps cheer them up.  The boys played well, but came up short 2-1.  They lost one starter for the rest of the season and another one had six stitches in his head last night.  Still, with them, there are reasonable expectations for some more wins.

I just did weights at the YMCA last night.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  TBIL, and I can drive (or watch Don B.'s neighbor!).  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is another beautiful day. 65 degrees and sunny. Going up to 82 today, with lots of sunshine.

Today is busy. I have a bunch of paperwork to do and then some errands to run. Then, I will relax. Maybe in the train room. I am getting things ready to paint the rest of the walls and hang a bunch of pictures. I have some more train paintings of my wife's to hang too.

Dining car was here for the usual breakfast.

Buckeye....TGIF

Y'all have a great Friday.

Good Morning

A very nice sunny day.

The "Christmas Carol" train is here in the Detroit area today, even made the  morning news. I may be off by one but I think Cedar Point near Sandusky Oh. has 17 roller coasters. Those things can rattle your brain for real. Way back in the old days Cedar Point was an old fashion amusement park with a great beach on lake Erie. BLT's for breakfast but running out of fresh T's. Have a great weekend...S.J.

Brent,

Before replacing the lens, run your hand over it. If it feels rough, that is oxidation that can usually be cleaned off by wetsanding and polishing. I have had to do that to the foglights on the Probe and the headlights on my brother's Grand Am, and it removed the oxidation and cloudiness. I used the sandpaper and block that are included with the Duplicolor scratch repair kit, so I am not sure of the grit. It was very fine though. Most lens are glued to the housings, so replacement involves baking the assembly in an oven at a low heat to soften the glue before the lens can be removed. If you have to do that, do it when Susan isn't home.WinkBig Smile

Aloha all. Prayers for a rapid recover for Rich and a good job for Steve - let me add to look at the local college and university websites. They are like hospitals in that they have lots of crafts - regular jobs. Have to read the Pot slower - I could swear Fife has a new bikini. Good Parent Night at the youngest''s school - his teacher is 23 and full of energy - she'll need it with 22 first and second graders.. Going to take both boys to a minor-league baseball game Sun. night with fireworks afterwards. Begged out of the academic convocation today - parade in robes around campus and then listen to long speeches. Hence only one in the office.

Jim,
The lens is still smooth on the outside. This is a known problem with the headlights on BMWs. IMHO they don't use a very high quality plastic... go figure... the headlights are actually comprised of multiple parts, each of which can be replaced seperately... the lens isn't glued on, it 'snaps' into place and there is a gasket between the housing and the lens. The most common cause of this is that the gasket wears out and needs to be replaced (problem is you can't see the gasket so you know it has worn out when the lens starts to glaze and you need to replace both the lens and the gastket)... there are two lenses (and they aren't interchangable) one is $87.95 and the other is $113.95 - guess which version my car requires... Banged Head. Was thinking of upgrading the lights with the Angel Eye kit... but not sure it is worth it on a car I'm hoping to unload in a couple years.

S.J..... I remember those days at Cedar Point.  No road to it. Had to take a ferry boat out there. All white wooden buildings. Old Breaker's Hotel. A great beach to swim. Lots of sand on the walkways. About 1953, I guess. A ticket booth for each ride. That was all you paid. Those were the good old days.

Brent, the Mercedes lights tend to haze over.  Mine needed the polishing.  MB wanted $400 to do it.  I took it to Toyota as they also have a very good detail guy.  Did the lenses for $20.  They look great.

I just hope that Fife doesn't show up on SPF wearing his new bikini....that would be too much!Shock

Had a nice morning with the bride.  Kids are at school and we watched I-Spy with Owen Wilson and Eddie Murphy.  Funny picture.  It is nice to be able to have some alone time with my wife.  Too little of it.  Son is feeling better, but has a few more days left on his medication.  Daughter was funny this morning.  Had to wear a expensive pink dress for school.  Now, why does a 4 year old need that?  I suspect that she is going to be very high maintenance when she gets older!

Hope everyone has a great day.

88 - First two trips are sold out 10/19 and 11/9.  Extra trip is for 10/26, all day $175 to pay to play.  I think I'm just gonna cut a check, because I don't dig photo lines.

734 should be running each weekend thru Fall.  Would be more interesting if WM 39 were to be cosmetically restored by then.  Will let you know.

Brent,

First generation Probes (1989-92) used a similar method as your BMW for the taillights, and the same problem plus rust in the spare tire well are the usual results.Disapprove With the prices you stated for new lenses, you could own a Probe and still pay similar prices for partsTongue When I called the service department at the local Ford dealer two years ago in search of a new catalytic converter, they said that if it was still available, it would be $1000.Shock

If you did the angel eye upgrade, you might get more money if you sell the car.

Good morning all, Fires are becoming more managable as time goes on... I heard over 40% contained on the station fire.   Still getting smoke but air quaility was moderate this morning.  I guess that means that you would only die slowly outside.  I did take about a 20 minute walk but did not feel good about it.  Finally ran some trains this morning after a few days.  Put the newly arrived tuscan shell on my scale Williams Pennsylvania GG1 and hooked it up to about 7 tuscan passenger cars.  Had a sqeak in the engine for a while but found it after oiling everything.  It was in the pick up rollers.  WD40 did not work good but used a small drop of light oil instead.  Got some good news and bad news yesterday about my MTH E6 diesels.  Good news is they found the problem (bad board). Bad news is it aint cheap to fix.  Anyway bit the bullet and gave go ahead on it.  Thinking about selling some of my conventional engines.  Have two brass scale Williams engines GS4 and N&W J, two Lionel engines SP Atlantic in Daylight colors and SP consolidation 2-8-0.  Train meet coming up Sunday at TTOS Southwestern Div. in Arcadia.  TCA Western later this month.  Have a good week end all,

Ray

Good evening everyone.  We had a emergency case today right after all the regular shift folks left.  Being on call, I had to do that plus a scheduled case that kept me there till tonight.  Oh well, was greeted very warmly by whole family....including the dog upon my arrival.

Buckeye, I had often wanted to go to Cedar Point when I was in college in Pittsburgh, but only made it to Kennywood a few times.  Cedar Point did have quite the reputation.

I do have to go in for rounds in the morning, but it should be a good day.  I hope to get some layout work done.  Also got a new NYC boxcar tonight when I came home.  Will have to see about SPF to have a little fun.

God BLess,
Dennis

Good Evening

Yep old Cedar Point, we did the same thing. parked in downtown Sandusky and rode the little boat with bench seats across to the park. The only time I ever saw my dad swim was there. we were out farther than he like so he rented a bathing suit and came in after us. no more swimming that  day. Did any of you Buckeyes ever hear of the Blue Hole? Banilla and root beer are ready for the thingy....S.J.

Cloudy and light rain most of the day.

Interesting e-mail today.  The company has been reorganized again.  Now we have the world divided up under 3 VP's.  The change is transparent to me.  Other related trivia, the VP who joined the meeting I was in yesterday got promoted and now will run North and South America.

Ceader Point.  In younger days, I tried to make a yearly pilgrimage there to ride the coasters.  It has been 7 or 8 years since my last visit.  I can remember standing line for the Corkscrew for about an hour the first season it was open.  Last time I visited, I waited for maybe two trains to get a front seat, then immediately walked back to the entrance and rode the back seat.  The Blue Streak is still my favorite coaster.  Others are bigger, faster, and smoother, but they don't have the same soul.

Got some bits and pieces coming from Train Tender.

About it for now.

Thingy is ready to fly Laugh  Mike, we can take turns driving if you want?  Patrick and Don's neighbor said they are working on some kind of dance routine, I'm not really sure what that could be?  Maybe it's the Locomotion?  Ran too late last night and nearly did so again tonight!  Sorry guys, got talking to some friends online including RT, Jeffrey, then SJ and finally our friend Brenda.  No OT tomorrow, so I have a 3 day weekend.  My aunt will be in town and we are all getting together for lunch Sunday after their church lets out.  Took the kids to Borders tonight, picked up a book for myself titles Steampunk.  Some of the stories I already have in other books, but many were new to me, so that is cool.  I got a report that my GP9 shipped today and when I got home, my Percy had shown up - NIB from the 'Bay.  Have supplies to get some work done on the basement this weekend too!

Prayers for Steve, Greg, Rich, Bob, JimSP and family, and all those in need!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Morning all.  Rounds done, paperwork done, now to go home and have some breakfast with the family.  I hope it remains quiet so I can get some layout work done.  I am looking over at a piece of equipment that was probably made in Germany as it is Over-engineered.  They have rollers on it and one of the rollers is stuck.  Problem is that they designed it so it can't be taken apart for cleaning.  Oh well, they had to send a new one and I'll have to send this one back.

I have a box of American Flyer trains that needs lots of care and repair for a friend.  Will have to dive into that soon and see what needs doing.  Will surely come to this crowd for assistance.

Hope everyone is enjoying this weekend.
God Bless,
Dennis

Good Morning

Sun shine galore, hi 70s  today.

I had a nice chat With Brutus last nite and we started talking movies. Boy there are acres of old movies that bring back memories. We have no big weekend plans but I am sure some of our little family will get together. We are very  lucky as our three kids all  live within a mile of us. Things could change some day but for now it's nice. Oatmeal and half a muffin for breakfast.  Have A Safe Weekend....S.J.

A wonderful Good Morning from The Heartlands Smile,Wink, & Grin  Yesterday we welcomed into the world our Grandson Alex!  Everyone is doing great and I am heading to Caboose Stop Hobbies in Cedar Falls before I hit the hospital later.  It's been a very long 9 months for our DIL and son and fortunately it all ended well.  Alex joins his sister and this will be it, very grateful.

Gee Brutus, now that the word is out about the dance routine it won't be a surprise. We will do it anyway.EvilWhistling

SJ - You and I are both lucky. We also have our three kids living here in the same county with us. Not many can say that!

Leaving in a few minutes to go to a surprise out door anniversary party for one of our daughters and SIL, there 30th. Great weather for it.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s.  Did weights at the YMCA last night and this morning.  Went to soccer practice.  Some lineup and strategy changes were being made.  Not too sure if they are all the right moves, but obviously something had to be done.  Swept the house this morning as well.  Will be reffing a noon game today and hopefully it will be cleaner than the last ones I did.  Going to Franklin College this afternoon to watch a Greensburg alum in her first college game.  I hope she gets to play.  The "saucy wench" is going as well since I said something about going out to eat after the game.  We are going to IU tomorrow to watch a game there as well.  (I love this time of the year).  Congrats Jon on the new grandbaby!  I had cereal and donuts from a new local bakery in town.  TBIL, and between driving and watch Patrick and Don's neighbor, it was a busy night!  I hope all enjoyed the freshly baked chocolate chip cookies the "saucy wench" made last night.  They were delicious.  There may be some more tonight!  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Laz, those F units sound like the Norfolk Southern business train power with former Southern Railway paint job.  I think they have four unit all together.  Probably did not need all of them for whatever task they were doing.  MTH made a limited run of the models.

Still hot here but cooling down a little.  Went to morning mass today to see my grandson in his very first altar boy assignment.  He did very well and looked like an old hand at it.  We all went out to breakfast after church with all the family.  Daughter in law took pictures of the priest and my grandson, then with all of us.

Ran some trains this morning after we got home from breakfast with my scale GG1 and 8 car train of cars I have'nt run for a while.  Ran my Walthers scale length combine and coach along with a baggage and RPO, express box car and two MTH coaches and one diner all in Tuscan red to match engine.  Some of the cars don't roll too easy but that GG1 had plenty of power to spare.

Cleared out of garage when the temp hit 90 about 11:45 AM.

Have a good week end y'all

Ray
