Good evening all,

It was a stormy day in SE Indiana with thunder and lightning curtailing practice with "my" soccer girls.  We made it back ok to the Hoosier Heartland.  I went to the YMCA later on and did weights.  I had hotcakes and sausage at MickeyD's for breakfast.  Beacon is lit at the home place and I can drive tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Buckeye, Tiffin is go. I'm pondering how much of the daughter's gear I can cram into the van. We'll be there in a few weeks.

Hope Brutus is feeling better. Whew, glad Mike can drive the Tardis tonight. Beacon is on.

Good Evening

86 today. Pockets of downpours around the state but none here.

A trip to Wal-marts this morning, they had every kind of motor oil there is except the one I wanted. Out of stock. Of course.

Brutus I had a nice cold Pepsi at sons house tonite, boy I too am ready to drive. Loop-D-Loops galore. I shall keep the banilla cold till you arrive...S.J.

sir james I

I see someone is playing games with those useless stars again.

Well, the stars are out somewhere but not here. [we know but they don't know we know]  So hazzy from humidity that only one planet can be seen.  Took Fifey's advice and stayed inside most of the day.  Most of that was at Town Hall.  Staff and I came up with some good things for some problems that Town needed solving.  Did take a trip to Lowes for bird food and some other things.  Was so hot and humid, breathing was hard.  I just saw some lightning reflecting in the north eastern sky.  Not suppose to be any rain near here.  Good night and sleep tight.

PS: just checked radar and T'storms are way up in VA.  Lightning flashes are a long ways away from Roseyville.  Two jets headed right into them.  Speaking of jets, NW Airlines airbus had a bird strike on take off at RDU yesterday and caught engine on fire.  Pilot made emergency landing back at RDU.  Thought to be a Canadian Goose.

Okay guys, let's get this party going.  Nothing going on here today - watched some tv and read a little.  Neck and headache pain passed away during the day, so don't know what brought it on or what cured it.  Wife will have labs tomorrow - found out those shots they started giving her cost $6000 each, wowser!  The cryolab work cost about $16,000, but settled for about $11,000!  Thank God for our insurance policy!

Doug, I'll pick you up first, then we can go get Mike, RT, Kurt, Ray, Patrick, Dennis, Chief (bring soup!), Rich, other Doug, Don, other Jim, Bob, Charlie, 8nTruck, Laz, and all the rest of the usuals and we'll go get Sir James and see if he's still up for driving?  I guess it's his turn.  Dramamine, Don't Fail Me Now!  Laugh

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Brutus, beacon is on and waiting patiently.  Hey Chief! What kind of soup are you bringing.  More tomato and Okra sounds like a good bet.  Do any of you guys know what causes all the lights to go out in a MTH Proto 2 diesel?  Everything else works fine, just no lights.  Tried feature and factory resets.  No good.  Back to square one.  I just got one problem solved with my VO1000, now my ACL E-6 is acting up with the light problem.  I took the shell off today and looked for loose wires or plugs in the boards but did not see any.  Maybe something just blew.  I hope not.  I hate to send engines anywhere for repair.  Doug D'Grump gave me a tip on a good shop in Colorado if I don't solve the problem here.  Wife and I are living it up while our grown son who lives with us is out of town.  We have been eating out every night and sometimes for lunch too.  Today we had a tub man come in to refinish our bathtub.  Fumes just about killed me.  Still smells a little even after several hours.  Oh well, more excuses for  eating out more.  Had grilled fillet of Cod tonight.  It was excellent but not enough stuff with it to keep a bird alive.  Had to load up on fresh baked bread.  There goes the diet!

Good night gang, see you on the tardis,

Ray

Good Dark early morning to Y'all.  Got called in for a patient issue.  Did some changes and waiting a little bit to make sure all is well.  Had a funny thing happen last night.  When I was getting ready to leave, wife wanted to invite some friends over.  OK, so I stop by and pick up some T-bones, corn on the cob and some potatoes.  Then, quickly start grilling and they show up.  Had a great dinner and we all went up to the train room for a little "show off" time.  Mind you, I have set up a block system, but have yet to finish the control panel and the shelving unit to hold the transformers.  Also mind you, I have not performed too many of these demonstrations so this is going to be an experience.  I am making adjustments to the power from the transformers (which are on the floor), with my foot.  I have not set the Legacy controller onto the layout as of yet, so it is all conventional power.  I drop a good bit of smoke fluid into a MTH hudson pulling a consist of die cast hoppers from K-Line.  Really nice looking train.  I start the engine going and all looks so great, I am in train heaven.  Have the engine pulling all different ways, throwing turnouts, etc.  Then, IT HAPPENS........The locomotive hits a block in which the operator (ME) has turned the throttle way too high!  Did you ever wonder what kind of air time a MTH Hudson gets going off a 41" high layout?  It was spectacular!  After I collected what was left of my pride, I picked her up.  Only minor bending of the bar between the Locomotive and Tender.  Easy fix and we were back in business.  Now, I go and put it back on the tracks, start it off slow, and take a easy, more gentle run around the layout.  The hoppers are on the inside loop, the Hudson is cruising on the outside.  Behind the hoppers is a MTH scale Susquehanna boxcar.  All looks good.  Before I can put the brain in gear, the Hudson hits the same block that caused the original disaster, only now, it is not pulling the cars, instead, it is heading right for them as one of the visitor's kids had thrown a turnout and that was the end of the train running for the night.  I have one small sliver of black plastic that I found that I am trying to figure where it was launched from, but otherwise, looks like it was relatively a damage free catastrophe.  I am humbled.

Well, gotta run, I will post photos of the disaster later.  Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Dennis

Dennis - you're opening a church at Baltimore City Hall! WOW! I thought the Dems were all about Seperation of Church and State?

Brutus - Nice work on the Thomas!

Rich - Yeah that bike needs another bath - and soon!

Busy weekend this past weekend. Got a call from the carpenter on Thursday that he has to go to Vegas for 3 weeks on a job starting 8/13 so we HAVE to get the shingles down on the roof, no problem... except... it hit 95 degrees both Saturday and Sunday. Mornings weren't too bad, but the afternoons sapped the energy, fluids out of you faster than the Space Shuttle clears the tower! But all is good, the skylights are in, the shinlges are down, and the porch and sun room are water tight! Got home from work yesterday around 5:00, changed and started installing the new exterior door on the sunroom around 5:45. Got the door set, lockset and dead bolt installed by 7:30... including putting the tools away (ok I put them in the sunroom)! Also the door doesn't try to open or close itself!

Got the windows ordered on Sunday so they should be here in 2 weeks. Then I have 14 windows to set and the electrician can come do his rough in. Hopefully I'll be insulating walls and hanging drywall by mid-September and installing the floor by October. Not too shabby.

Good morning all,

It is a foggy day in SE Indiana with temps in the 80s.  Back to work today.  Doug, I know some one who went to Tiffin a few years ago so I have heard of the school.  I was going to comment on some other people's posts but I can not remember who now???  I had bacon and biscuits this morning on the dining car for breakfast and it has been sent on to "Point's East".  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Aloha. Looks like a good and sunny day. I know it'll be good because the pet food promoters were out in force at the station loading me up with cans. And I, like an idiot, will carry them around all day because they're free, dang it! Dennis, don't you just love the gremlins that come out whenever you want to show the layout? It's Murphy's Law. I don't think I've ever ran it with visitors without something unexpected and bizarre happening. Here's hoping that never happens again to you. Mike, the daughter can't wait to go to Tiffin. I like the place because a main line runs right behind the campus and I can sit in the parking lot and watch the trains roll by. As Buckeye mentioned, Fostoria is just next door and even has an official place to watch the trains. I have to check that out. Long day with class tonight but I don't mind. Looking forward to riding the train viritually with Sir J, Brutus, Charlie and whomever else is on Messenger tonight.

Good Morning

Sunny and 87 today.

Dennis great story, could you repeat it with a video please.

Granny says we have no plans for today so I guess I will have to find something to do. Hmmm. Poached egg on toast for breakfast so some kind of lunch will be needed.

Dennis--good story, fear not, all of us have been there at one time or another!  I haven't launched anything off the table, yet, but during our open house last month there was a slow motion rear end moment, our friends from DC said I was now qualified to have a full time job as an engineer for the DC Metro!

Fife--I understand your situation.  We had a very nice hot tub for 13 years and everyone loved it for the first 7 (no one ever helped me clean it except the boss), once the kids were gone we rarely used it except at Christmas.  I was happy to see it go down the driveway this spring.  Whereas, a bigger sailboat could be used for a lifetime--especially once the kids are gone and you and Fifette could cruise to St. Thomas for the winter, we'll meet you there Cool

Just a super day yesterday meeting WW II vets, what an honor.  As I'm typing they are on their way to DC, will visit their monument first, then to Arlington and then just a little more free time.  They will return to Iowa tonight landing at 10:45, we will have a flag line at the hotel to greet them at 11:15---15 busses to move them from the tarmac to the hotel just across the street.  They were so excited last night when we led them through the heart of the city to their pre flight dinner, nearly all of the drivers on the interstate were good about yielding to us and the busses, we had great LEO support--there was one young female driver that was a bit impatient as she missed her exit, she ended up being quite late for dinner....................

Fife Dog I think I was 14 when My father bought a 4' X 21' round above ground Pool. I look back at the enjoyment I got out of that every summer and my friends. It was well worth what my father paid for it. I think we got about 9 years out of it befor they moved and sold the house. ( buyers wanted it removed and dad gave it away to someone for just coming and taking it down. ) I was in the military then but still used it during the summer with friends and girl friends till they moved. ( P.S. what a better way to keep and eye on your kids and them having a great time) still its big decision make sure thou that you attach a fence to the top to have = to 5' fence or put a fence around it for insurance reasons.

Morning all hows it going today. Fine here supose to be another hot one here today.

going to take it easy. want to cut grass but think I will wait a few days and see if it breaks the high temps/ high humidity. Grass grows very slow here not sure what type it is but I cut about 4 times a year and thats it. lots of weeds in it also so will tend to that sooner or later also.

Easy day here todaySmile talk to you all later have a good one

 Good Morning All:

Like RT I was going to cut grass today, but decided to wait until Thurs. Supposed to be cooler then. I will leave the hot and humid day cutting up to the Chief.Bow

I too have had Murphy's Law  apply when "showing off" the trains for visitors. Usually it is the kids that cause the problems, but hay, they are enjoying themselves.Thumbs Up The latest was giving two DCS remotes to the kids and they somehow messed up all the settings. Had to wipe clean and start over with the entries.

LOL! He doesn't gamble much any more. He told us all that if there are any bets that we have to have them to him by tomorrow, in seperate envelopes for each bet, he'll go to the bookie ONCE and place all the bets, when he returns he will give us the bet slip and the return envelope. Passing this year, nothing I feel like betting on (I'm a terrible gambler). Smile They'll probably go to the casino one or two nights but that is it.

Trying to figure out how I want to go about attempting to install the screened porch french door. This thing weights a ton and I know I can't do it myself. Guess I'll call the backup carpenter and see when he is available and discuss price and if there is any prep work I can do... want to wait on that till I have the siding back up on the exterior - hope to do that this weekend since the weather is supposed to be 10 degrees cooler, also need to get the gable vent replaced... been putting that off and it really needs to get done...

Thanks Guys, I've never met Doug Murphy face to face, but His laws have been a nemesis of mine for some time now.  SJ, I will try to take some stills of the aftermath, I hope you don't mind if I don't re-create it for a video.

Brent, Yeah, we are coming that way.  I am sure that at some point in the near future, I'll be up there for missions work.  A real chance to make a difference.  Hope to catch up with you and Fife while there.  I'll let you know.

I am a bit tired, but have anothe case to take care of before heading home.  Hope to post the photos later.

Afternoon, Boys...

1 more week until I leave for Vegas, leave for Orlando Saturday afternoon.  Short timers is setting in....

Yeah, I DO need a bike wash, I missed the last on August 1st Banged Head.

I’ll have to find the next one before I leave.....

I’m not sure if I mentioned it, but we have “adopted” (more like adopted us) a female cat here at work she was probably abandoned.  She had kittens here about 7 weeks ago.  5 of them.  All adopted out except for 2 (mother has a new home as well).  Well, today we took them to the humane society and had them spayed/neutered and they are getting their shots.  They live here at work, we keep the babies inside with the mother at night.  I don’t let the babies out because of the car traffic.  The mother knows better.  I’m gonna miss them when they go.

They are litter trained and eating solid food.  I brought them up right!!

95 today and 90% humidity – very hazy too.  No rain in the offing per the weather wizards – which I don’t believe....

Me?  Run trains off the table??  Silly boy...not I.....Banged Head

Check in later!!

Good Afternoon,

I know it has been a couple months since I have been on, what can I say except that I have busy-really busy!!

Lawsonfarms, like the cartoon with the farmer in the Dell!

Riding lawmower battery died, water pipe sprung a leak in the yard, renter had his pick-up truck stolen by a woman he gave a ride to, front door lock; the deadbolt would only let the key spin around and wouldn't open the lock.

Haven't run my trains for a few weeks so I hope that I don't have any derailments.

Got a raise at work, so now I am making $7.80 an hour, not that much but at least it's a job! Wife went back to work as school starts next week here in south Florida.

A couple of news items locally, anjdevil you may be affected too, FPL wants to have a whopping 31% rate increase for residential customers and a really whopping 50% increase for commercial and industrial customers. Florida gave Citizewn's Insurance the approval for a 10% rate increase, no storms for over 3 years and they get a rate increase??? Last item is the road paving out here(the Ranchettes in western Palm Beach county ) is going to an audit team with Palm Beach County or the state of Florida, something about waisting money or committing fraud with the taxpayers money.

With all this extra money being spent here in Florida who is going to have any money to buy food with?? Maybe  Cheif Eagles has a shotgun for sale so I can bag my own food!

Hey Lee, welcome back...

Our own JEA has a fuel surcharge upwards fo 30% and the masses want it rolled back.  Something may happen by October, but I wouldn't count on it.  We also have a storm water fee $150 to $4000 a year.  Depending on the rain fall (rain fall tax?)

Welcome back Lee.  We will send you a "care package".  It will contain GRITS, TEA BAGS and SUGAR. Whistling  Hope all goes better.

The two hampsters in the cage dropped from heat exhaustion.  Power was out for 45 mintues in Roseyville until we could get the backup team in.  Power on now.  Storms all around but not a drop of rain here, YET.  Will call Jack [Rockisland] and if I get him, rest of the night wil be listening. Laugh  Then maybe have time to call that old horn blower in the midwest. Wink

Good Evening

80 something today. I was going to cut grass tomorrow but a summer storm passed just south of here gave us overcast and for awhile temps in the 70s. So grass is cut, trim tomorrow.

I shall wait for the Tardis with banilla on ice. S.J.

Well, chatted with Jon E and left voice message with Jack [Rockisland].  Chatted with LAZ.  Busy working at home and helping work on a steam engine.  Also running one.  Said he shoveled coal today and cab temps were around 140.

Was a long day.  Had a couple of cases, but the last one was with a guy who is green around the gills, so to speak.  He took about 6 hours to do a case we could have finished in one.  Guess they have to learn some time.  Upon getting home, found computer to be not connecting to the net.  was able to fix the issue of getting on, but not sure what caused the failure in the first place.  Hope it doesn't become a problem I need to track down.

Well, I finally got the time to take a photo of my wreck.  As you can see, it was classic.  Of course, I didn't take photos of the original engineer failure when the locomotive ended up on the floor.  This is the second time, when she squeezed the Susie Q car between the die cast hoppers.

I call this one "Better have that engineer Tested!"  As mentioned in the earlier post, I had the locomotive set on the outer loop in this section.  The hoppers and boxcar were on the inner loop.  one of the guests turned the turnout from the outer loop to the inner loop in this double cross-over.  The result is that the locomotive crossed to the inner loop, collided with the cars and threw the switch to push some cars to the outer loop.  Of course this was a direct result of running with blocks and having the block above at full throttle while the prior blocks were all at a crawl.  She took off like a rocket.  I have only seen my 1689E move this fast.  Don't think I want to make a habit of this kind of entertainment.

Bob, consulted with some of my colleagues regarding your symptoms.  The only thought beyond what has been done would be to do a  "eating study", like a sleep study, but have your pressure, ECG, etc. hooked up while having you do  a full course meal and get lab work done pre, during, and after.  I suggested that you order a nice steak from Bones.  Anyway, the other courses of investigation seem right with me and the others I have checked with.

God Bless,

Dennis

Dennis - glad no serious damage was done!

Nice chat with SJ, RT, and Doug tonight.  No problems of the world solved, but learned a couple things Smile

Found out something had leaked all over the inside of the fridge.  Like - a while ago.  I think it was blood Confused  Took the shelves and drawers all out and cleaned them while kids went over them again with clorox wipes.  The job took about an hour to do right and make sure everything was clean and okay before putting it back.  I suspect this was from some hamburgers my mother-in-law patted out for us weeks ago and nobody ever noticed that the plate spilled down the back?  Anyway, what a mess - glad it's all cleaned up now and nobody got sick!

Tardis is ready, so let's get going - I see a lot of beacons too Smile  Patrick is up on rotation to drive, Mike, so let's hang out and watch Buffy on the Big Screen Smile  SJ, banilla sounds great to me Thumbs Up

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
