Hi Doug, have to agree with you on the heat. It's beginning to get old now. We need a change. My pool is costing too much to maintain in this heat. It just eats chemicals. Kids are grown now and no one hardly ever uses it. It just cost $ to run the filter and buy supplies. Money that would be better spent on trains. Speaking of which, I have an MTH VO1000 that is acting up because of a bad tachometer tape I think. Those little dashes or dots on there have become two rows of dots with some of them missing. Result is that engine runs erractically. I wonder if those tapes can be changed by the owner without too much trouble. I know if I took it to a shop, I'd have to pay a lot more to get it done. We got a new gate installed this morning on our block wall in back of the house. It is wroght iron with sheet metal backing for privacy. Only problem is, It's black. Too much black and the house trim is brown and light green. It does'nt look good. I forgot to discuss color with the fence company. They made other gates for me that are open wrought iron gates that were black but did not show up much because they were open between pickets. Got a call in now for fence company to repaint in a different color.

Ray,
Drop a line to Mizell Trains in Colorado, they'll give you an estimate of the repair cost. They were a recommendation of "Shake & Bake" and have been great with a couple of items that I sent to them. But the only downside is shipping to & from, adds a bit to the total cost but at least I have found a "Class" shop that I have confidence in. Closer than my other choice in Michigan.
It is convenient to have the pool in the backyard, but I was very happy to sell our previous abode that had one. As you said it costs a small fortune to maintain not to mention the personal time involved.

Afternoon all!
Rich: I used deck screws for the benchwork.....I had some laying around.
Brent: Woo hoo on the new Hoopti-Q!
Jim: South Haven, Holland, Grand Haven, in the southern part of Michigan are great little towns. Chris Craft museum is a nice diversion, as many of the early inhabitants were sweedish furniture makers, that adopted boat building. Further north, Traverse City, Petosky, and Harbor $prings are also nice.
Have a great trip!
Brutus: Bride is working from home today/night, so you'd better turn on the Captin's choice...and keep Laz's glass packs quiet.

dougdagrump Mornin' Mob ! Pardon the humour at the expense of the DNC. It is still miserable here with the heat & humidity, trying not to run the A/C to much. As for the car issue, I still miss my 65 GTO. Gas mileage was the pits but with some engine mods and a carb the size of a 5 gal garbage can what would one expect. Liked a lot of the Chrysler styling, wife has a PT Cruiser, but the gas mileage was not what it should have been. Blueberryhill RR I plan on spending some time under the shade tree later. Chuck Chuck, You need to put a small loop of "G" or "O" under that shade tree for a little bit more incentive to visit that spot. Happy anniversary to Jon & Sharyl.

Another lake that will require environmental restoration after the Chief visits.
It is so beautiful in Ohio today. Mild, low 80's, light breeze and everything is so green. Tonight the temperature will drop to about 60.
The worst car I ever owned was a 76 Chevy Blazer 4x4. I replaced all the U-Joints and it rusted badly in 3 years. Only redeeming factor was during the Blizzard of 78, it went through real deep snow to pick up beer at the local market.
I can't believe you guys didn't mention the Straits of Mackinac and Mackinac Island. Camping on the Straits is great. You can watch the boats go under the bridge.
I believe Orville, Ohio, the home of Smuckers is having their train festival this weekend.

Thanks everyone for the good wishes yesterday and today, it was a good evening--great steak, wine and we watched the Cubs , left the sound off and just talked about the last 37 years, not sure where that time went. Thanks goodness I stopped at Costco yesterday--two dozen beautiful long stem roses always works, I don't know how they can sell those roses at such a low price but it's my ace in the hole.
Rich--screws, no other option works as well.
Western MI--Sault St. Marie for sure! The locks are well worth seeing and the visitors center is full of very interesting exhibits. The train ride Chuck mentioned looks wonderful, we were short on time and passed, dang it. Remember, if you go into Canada you will need a passport to get back in the USA.
Next Monday & Tuesday are going to be wonderful. 350 WW II vets are boarding a charter 747 and being flown to DC to see their Memorial. HyVee (big super market chain in Iowa) threw in $250,000.00 to get the project started, the vets will not pay a dime, the contributions have far exceeded the original goal. This is actually the 2nd Honor Flight from Iowa and we need to do two more to make sure all of the Iowa Heroe's that are still alive get to DC, there is a real sense of urgency to get this done quickly---as you know WW II vets are in the twighlight of their lives. An interview was on TV last night and one of the guys was laughing as he was one of the youngest in his group--83! They are all coming into Des Moines Monday afternoon and will be housed at a motel across from the airport, we have a reception planned for them. They will be leaving from the airport very early Tuesday--4:00 or 4:30 AM and will return to DM that night at 11:15 PM, it's a one day trip, it's a very long day for them but I'm sure it's one they will remember. I feel honored to participate as I had 3 uncles who answered the call in WW II, thankfully they all returned home safely, sadly they never got to see their memorial. Here's a link you might find interesting, hope it works

It appears that summer is actually here, next 3 days we will have temps in the upper 90's and the lawns are rapidly turning brown. That's OK with me, I'm tired of mowing twice a week. Maybe I can now get my passenger cars loaded with passengers!
And finally, two worst vehicles I ever owned--a Ford Pinto Wagon and the first year of the Ford Aerostar mini van-----that van was in the shop with engine and transmission problems more than it was in our garage! I had to take an oath to my wife that we would never look in another Ford lot, she has not forgotten

So many roads, so little time.
Back from Kiddieland - exhausted. The munchkin enjoyed it so much. They had a great mini-train ride -- double-headed E units done up in Southern Pacific style, open top streamlined cars and a cool obs at the end -- track curved in and out of the parking lot complete with mini-crossing lights. Since the park is closing at the end of the month, I wonder who'll buy that train. I suggested it would look great around the yard. The bride demurred. Can't believe why. Interesting there were no teens there - since the rides were mostly for munchkins, say age 4 - 10. There sure is a lot of fine things to do in Michigan's UP - I love Taquaquenon Falls, and there's all sorts of small public beaches along the road into Wisconsin.

Another sunny day in the 70s. A trip to Lowes and new one key locks for the front door was my morning. I know they have been that way for years but I just never changed ours, We spent some time this evening with # 1 sons family his wife has relatives here from Dallas area and we like to say Hi when they visit. They are enjoying our cool 70s.
Waiting for Brutus, banilla in hand...S.J.
Rich,
I used nail on my previous layout, and I'll never use nails again. They are okay at first, but they loosen with time and cause the layout to slowly self destruct. This time I have used 2.5" stainless steel deck screws throughout, and they have made it so much stronger. Don't use drywall screws as they can't support the weight. On the muscle car front, I like the 2005-09 Mustang. I don't like the changes that Ford has made on the 2010 though. I am not impressed by the new Camaro because it just doesn't remind me of the originals of the late 60s. Chevy dropped the ball on the design IMHO.
Break in the temperature got me back in the train room tonite. Started some serious scenic work...now I just need to keep going !

Doug, what about the local MTH repair station in Burbank? What do you think of them? Maybe I answered my own question.
Evening all from beautiful Southern Ohio
A beautiful clear cool night. All the windows are open and the fan is on cooling the house. Daughter said she was cold!
Getting the camper ready. Going to load it in the truck tomorrow. I added some vent covers called MAx Air. We had them on the 5th and loved it. They allow ventalation but won't let rain in.
Kurt & Chuck thanks for the travel tips.
Chief - If we travel south could we park in your drivway at the lake?
May God bless

Hard to beat Big Mac and the Straits. Don't forget to get a Pasty. :) Once you eat one your a Yooper!
Ray, Sent you an e-mail.
My experience with them has been, unless you originally bought the item there, they seem to raise their pricing, and/or turn around time is extremely long. Just my opinion, experience..

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is another beautiful day. 68 degrees. Sunny. Going up to 84 today.
Today I am busy. This morning. I have some chores to do around the house and then I will relax. I like Doug's idea about putting a train loop under the shade tree. That would be neat.
Where is everybody this morning ?????

Sun is up 70s today.
Chores are done and a quick trip to Kroger also done. BLT's for breakfast, I only like them if they have fresh garden T's. Of course bacon is always good. It appears I may have some train time today so I will consider that option.
TGIF for those with jobs, but remember this week is gone for good, never to return....S.J.

Good Afternoon Y'all! Lite day here and just taking care of some housekeeping duties. Going to take the family out to a BBQ/Oyster Bar for lunch. Plan on working on layout this afternoon. Otherwise, no plans. may have some friends over this evening.
Trying to figure out when our local congressman will be having a "townhall" so we can voice our concerns. Seems most are getting an earful when they get back home.
Well, hope everyone has a great weekend. God Bless, Dennis

dougdagrump Ray, Sent you an e-mail.
Doug, I got it. Thanks so much. I will file the information for future reference. I have used the local folks for some repairs and have had pretty good luck with upgrades. However I got a pretty cold shoulder when I brought in some warranty work which was not purchased from them. They took a crack at it but I wound up sending it back to MTH after their attempt.
Afternoon all. Cold and rainy. Working from home - fixing faucets, setting Japanese Beetle traps - had another host of stuff to do but it's raining. And real work too. Quiet day though. Hopefully for you too.
I thought evryone knew the CHIEF is the Godfather of the pot !

Very nice vacation spot. Took the boat to the island.
Good evening all,
IIABSDISEI with temps in the low 80s. Practiced with "my" soccer girls last night. Went to the YMCA and did weights afterward. Traveled thru Ohio today on the way to Westfield Center. Staying there three nights while the "saucy wench" and I go to Mid-Ohio Saturday and Sunday. AJ's car was 13th quick in practice. On the way here we stopped at the Kenwood Mall off I-71 in Cincy. Got two building sets at the LEGO store. Very nice place. Saw some items not listed in their catalogs. WIll definitely return. Very nice mall. Also stopped at outlet mall near Lodi. Has small scale train rides that travel around the mall. Unusual idea. Each store front has old picture from the time when railroads ran thru Lodi a lot. I had biscuits and bacon on the dining car. Beacon is lit, but will have to use special tracking device. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,

Long visit w/ the doc this morning. Looking at my blood glucose data she is, of course, less concerned w/ that as the primary issue. Still starting the class next week and that will be good. Wrote me a prescription to cover the test strips and another meter in case the one I have wasn't covered. The short answer is that even w/ ins., it is cheaper for me to keep mine and pay for it myself. More bloodwork and X-rays today and another GI test to schedule next week. One note of good news is that I have been given the green light to taxi as far as going back to work. Light duty for the time being, no hanging off the roof in the harness or running up and down the scaffolding for a bit. Also, she doesn't want me up there alone for a while. Still it'll be nice to get back to the scope. They showed me where they hung the picture in the office today and I must say I am starting to miss it.
Might be a little more work on the rectory this weekend. Seems there is a bit of confusion as to when the new interim will arrive. As Fr.Fred said, for the time being we are in our "interim interim" period. Going thru tools in the process of organizing the garage. Have to make a run to Sears and the local used tool store to replace a few missing items, the socket that got away and what not.
Fairly big uproar over the state not renewing the contract w/ United Health Care in the fall. It has delayed the open enrollment scheduled to start Monday. Fortunately my doc takes the new providers in case United's appeal comes to naught. Can understand that with all the money they have spent on me this summer they want the chance to recoup on their investment.
