Just watching a thunderstorm roll thru town tonight. No rain here, but the lightning was interesting to watch. Got just over half of the outlets installed and identified most of the circuits on the breaker panel (wasn't labeled). As would be expected for a 50+ yr old house, there was some interesting circuitry. Back tomorrow to finish up. Have to try and retap one outlet box for the next larger size machine screw. The guys working on the bathrooms and kitchen are doing a great job. House looks totally different than when we started working on it before the first interim. Should be in good shape for the second interim and whenever we do call a new rector.

My house is 70 years old.  Lucky it was wired with BX cable.  The outer flex cable is the third wire [ground].  We rewired and added lots of circuits.  Installed 250 AMP pannel.  We bonded all the outer cables and everything checks OK for ground.  Replaced the old outlets with ones with equipment ground.  Bonded then to the metal boxes so got good grounds.  Takes some time but it is worth it.

Chief - I've heard in the Episcopal Church (Yes, I know, that's very Yankee) that wherever there are 4 or more of us there will be a fifth...

Why do you think Episcopal is Yankee.  In Tidewater VA and Eastern NC, there were [and still are] Episcopal Churches in every little town and some in only communities.  I had an Uncle to was an Episcopal minister.  My Grandparents were Episcopal.  The Eagles family were all Episcopal until after the WWII.  Some left and started a Baptist Church.  Dad changed as Mom was Baptist.  So, I grew up in both. Yeah!!

Dennis - They've done a couple more tests (a real fun one yesterday) and nothing has shown up yet. Still haven't heard about the lab work. Sometimes it takes my doc's office a while on this. If nothing else I will see my doc on Friday. The more I read the less diabetic I sound. Still on the diet until we know different though. At this point I'm just trying to carry on. I can feel whatever this is often when I am doing stuff. I either just slow down or take a break for a bit. Will see what the doc thinks about me going back to the mountain for a least limited duty. Several people have asked whether they thought this was a food allergy of some kind. Has been bantered around, but given the symptoms and no commonality in what seems to set me off the thought is no. I think now I may have a food allergy, I'm just plain allergic to food! Doesn't always happen just after I eat though, so I dunno.  Right now will just wait to see the final results of the tests so far and talk to my doc on Friday and see where we go from here.

 Hello all.

Stopped in for a quick cup.

Finally got caught up on the Pot

Camper and beach stuff all put away.

Did some "Paint swapping" myself  last week. Had a fender bender to the tune of two grand last week on Rt 1 in Rehobeth. I thought it was only a couple of hundred. Can't even tell there is a dent from over 50 feet away.

Trying to keep weeds and fungus at bay in the garden.

Need to build a new trellis for Trumpet Vine, wind got the old one

Washed tractor to get ready to run Hayride at church festival this weekend.

Not much time for trains

Prayers to all who need them

Morning all.  Should be a light day and when I return home, I'll be getting the kids ready for violin lessons tonight.  This will be the first time in a few weeks as the instructor had a total hip replacement.  Kids are ready, but I'd like them to practice a little more before going.

Bob, hope the lab results show something, at least something to go on.  Good luck with that.

Brutus, they are talking about 32 post offices in St. Louis being shut down.  If you go to the USPS web site, they have a PDF of which sites.  This is a preliminary list.  They expect more to be added, but also some may be spared.  From what I see, none in our local area are closing.

I hope to check back later.  God Bless,
Dennis

Good morning all,

It is foggy in SE Indiana (not just in my head :-) ) this morning with temps in the low 80s again.  Mild, wet summer so far in Indiana.  So much for global warming (at least this year).  Water under the house, but sump pump is going.  Fields too soggy for soccer practice so I went to YMCA to do weights and soccer juggling.  Was going to do track work as well, but was too tired.  I watched some of "America's Got Talent" with the wife.  Going to a flute concert downtown at Artsgarden at noon today.  One of the local kids who works the desk at the YMCA is performing.  It is only a block away.  High school friend who lives in New Mexico will be over for a visit tonight so should be an interesting day.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning.  Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.  Looks like we may get to see "Danica vs. Duno - Part Two" at Mid-Ohio this weekend.  If you remember last year, the Princess marched down to Milka's pit to b---h about her driving and Milka threw a towel in her face.  It was all over YouTube.  I got to give Milka "props" for not taking any s--t from the Princess.  Could be some fireworks.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Mornin' Fellas.

Well the saga continues. BMW called yesterday and said it was SusieQ's fault this happened. Said the showed signs of impact and the impact resulted in the sheared rim. $895 later and it has a new rim, tire, and alignment. We get there to pick it up... MINOR impact damage on the inside lip. NO WAY IN HADES this thing should have done what it did. We have the rim and tire at home and I will be taking pictures and the emailing and writting BMW. No X3 for us! Maybe never a BMW again (and for Susan and I that is saying a lot because we absolutely LOVE our BMWs).

!!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!    !!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!    !!!!!!!WARNING!!!!!!!

SoapBox
So we stopped at the Toyota dealer to wheel and deal on the RAV4... we offered $1,000 over invoice and they told us 'demand is high and availability is low, no way we can meet that price'. I told him 'Well you're losing a sale because we do NOT NEED a car. We can wait till we find the right car at the right price at a dealer that is willing to deal and wants to sell us a car.' We started to get up and he says, 'Let me go tell my manager you're leaving.' He walks away, goes to the sales counter, then disappears... we got up and walked out. I don't need to be treated like a 16yo buying my first car. I don't give 2 cents of a rat's *** what demand is, what availability is, nor that Cash for Clunkers has caused a rush on cars. So blah blah what! I can wait. In 1 - 2 weeks, when Congress fails to put more cash into Cash for Clunkers their business will be right where it was 2 weeks ago - stagnant and non-existant. Where will I be in 2 weeks? Still looking for a car most likely.

Morning Giz....Smile,Wink, & Grin

Brent, be patient, the deals are there, the used car market is getting a price rise due to the shortage of available used cars, so new car prices will drop accordingly.

Glad Suzie Q had the driving skills to prevent any injury and she’s ok!

The usual rain after 4 came yesterday buckets with thunder and lightning again from 445 until 8 yesterday about 1 hour of that was flooding type rain.  Thank goodness, I’m not riding the hog....

Had KFC last night as the girls were out and about,  finished dinner after 9.  Did a little Facebook and cleared up some e-mails.  Watched Rescue Me...gotta love Denis Leary!

Not much else in the offing, the MHS Dance team bowling party is Saturday night, so I’m going with all the girls Smile,Wink, & Grin.  New HOG member orientation Saturday at 930.

Up to 95 and rain later...same as the last 10 days.....Banged Head.

Dennis, Fire Policeman got hit in Belvidere a couple of days ago.  He was blocking a street behind a FD vehicle with lights and a DUI hit the car and him.  Prognosis is good, he’ll be ok, but the DUI, well....attempted vehicular manslaughter and DUI, with a mandatory invitation to the Gray Bar Inn for that guy...

That’s all for now Angel for those that need ‘em

Aloha. Beautiful day here - I'm fated to just see it out the window I guess. But that's better than nothing. Great 'ride' with Brutus, Sir J and Charlie last eve., just as I detrained - a rare UP freight (short ballast gon train) roared through the station - always an impressive sight at night with 4 engines on point. County fair opens today. Amazed it's still got plenty of livestock showing and traditional fair stuff instead of one big midway like the formerly rural counties closer to the city.

Good Morning

Sun is up and 80s.

A Grand Marquis or Town Car is as good a car for travel as anyone makes. Both on the same chassis. Stop talking about foriegn company cars and I will stop talking about the ones WE make.

Had a great chat and ride home on the train with Doug M. , Brutus and Charlie. We rattled off nonsense for 45 minutes or more. It's good to know some of the guys. Today I must make a sacrifice and take my wife to see one of her sisters across town. Won't mind so much but she doesn't come her more than once every five years or so. Enjoy this once in a lifetime day.

BOB ..... it could also be an ingedient in what you may be drinking instead of eating with your meal ... a sister-in-law had that problem awhile back ... it was the flavoring or additive in her drink not her food .

Dennis .... for lord's sakes install a malware blocking proggie on them .... my grand-daughters get alot of them on their systems and infect my wife's when they're here . Spybot - which is free and malwarebytes which is the best ... it even stops that new virus/malware infecting everyone's system now .... have had over 15 systems come in infected with it and had to remove them . 2 sitting here now to do ... but you must scan everyday or 2 days if you don't keep the realtime blocker loaded . And keep updating .... that's a must !

Hi PAT !  How's it going buddy ?

Son bringing me back a big bag of beach sand from myrtle beach for my sand cars ... like the real look instead of the local sand from the supply yard . Forgot to tell him to get a bunch of those smooth stones on the beach ... darn it .... beautiful colors and the sand/beach ground effect is fabulous ..... will try to call him and remind him .

Brent ... it was'nt 3 weeks ago car dealers were begging for ANY sale here .... a real rip they are like they are now .... get on the web and research another dealer .... there's thousands  of lots packed with unsold autos all over the U.S.A .... that dealer you went to is lousey ..... Fitzgerald will get one and bring it locally here or to your area .... we're not all that far from each other .... did you try them .... they did that for me on our car and were over anxious to do so .  Did you really expect BMW to acknowlege they put inferior wheels on their cars ... they had that cruise control problem awhile back and only after a couple deaths ... many permanent disabling injuries and bucu wrecks/hundreds of them  and alot of law suits ... they finally recalled their crap . Look at it this way .... THEY COULD HAVE KILLED YOUR WIFE AND KIDS if the children were in the car .....

SJ ... the Ford LTD my wife's sister owned and we went to FLorida in was the most comfortable car I ever travelled in ..... believe ot or not more comfy than my maxed out cadillac I had then ..... at 1/4 the cost or lower .... burnt my knickers .... LOL ----- Clown So much for that saying " YOU GET WHAT YOU PAY FOR " .... does'nt fall true with BMW and Cadillac ... overpriced hype .  Grumpy

Morning.  Grits cooking.  Pretty day.  Got grass to cut [becaused it rained good] and some small errands and then Lucy and I are off to the lake.  Dare not spray anything even though they are not calling for showers [just like yesterday].  Waiting for an internet order to arrive.  Found a scale Lionel NS box car [from 99 catalogue].  Have a good one.

Afternoon all.

Brent:  Try looking into the BMW forums, to see if anyone else has had this problem.  Also,  http://www.nhtsa.dot.gov is the government site for automotive recalls.  I looked at a few sites, and didn't see anything similar to what you have.

I agree with the above...see another dealer.  I see the US automakers are offering year end rebates, on top of the cash for clunkers.  Sounds like congress will approve funding to continue the Cash for Clunkers program.

Another morning sitting around waiting for the phone to ring. The final results from the esophagram came back today. Negative. I asked them if any and what other tests they might want to do, and the nurse was going to check w/ the gastroenterologist and get back to me. They are also very curious as to what the lab test results were, so I was back on the phone w/ my doc's office to see what they knew.

Ole Timer - I am only drinking decaf coffee, lots of water, and occasionally tea.  And it doesn't always happen just after I eat, for example, this morning where it was "here we go again" before I had drank anything or eaten. Good ideas though and thanks for the input. This seems to be baffling all of my docs.

Brent - lousy response from the BMW dealer. Even if they didn't want to own up on responsibility  right away, to throw it back on the customer like that, just not right.  After working on cars my entire adult life and even working for a dealer for a bit (very briefly, only job I walked away from w/ no notice), I have come to the determination that a significant portion of the time new car dealers suck. There are some decent ones out there, but that seems to be the exception rather than the rule. You are smart in being patient. There's always another deal. The most powerful thing you can do it take your business elsewhere.

Chief - the rectory was built as a commercial property so it uses conduit even though romex was widely in use at the time. I've heard of bonding the conduit in older structures to use as a ground. How is that done in the main electrical panel? We don't have the time to do it now, but it would be a good idea as a future upgrade. And for some reason I've always thought of the Episcopal Church as a New England tradition. I don't really know why. I've known several people who have gone to seminary in the NE, but that's about it. The only time I spent a significant period in the south was when I was in training for the Navy (Mississippi, a former Seabee). I went to a couple of Baptist services w/ a classmate since he was Baptist. I never tried to find an Episcopal Church while we were there. Thanks for the enlightenment and it always nice to meet a fellow Episcopalian.

Well it's time to find some breakfast and see if I can make myself feel worse I guess. Then off to the church in the afternoon.

A Grand Marquis or Town Car is as good a car for travel as anyone makes. Both on the same chassis. Stop talking about foriegn company cars and I will stop talking about the ones WE make.

Why should I stop talking about foreign auto makers? I am having problems with my BMW that I thought everyone on the forum should know about, just in case one of their loved ones were thinking about buying a BMW. No one, not even Susan or I, know what she'll end up with... believe me I thought losing the twins to the miscarriage was stressful. Try finding a vehicle to replace a vehicle that has become like a family member to your wife. She bought this car shortly after her divorce so it symbolizes about 10+ years of her live, all the ups and downs, the new found freedom of being away from someone who threatened her life, the excitement of finding someone who deeply cares for her, and all the little things in between. As she so elloquently put it 'I feel like I just lost my pet.'

If you, or any other forum member, had a experience with their car like Susan had with her BMW I would hope beyond all that is right, that you would share that with us so we could all be more aware of what to look for and try to avoid.

 Bob,

If the building is 100% Conduit grounding shouldn't be a problem

Make sure you use devices that are approved for use without a bonding jumper (there will be some sort of a spring device on one or both device mounting screws) Or use a short piece of bare or green wire from the device to the box. If there are no tapped holes available in the box get some grounding clips. They must be used with solid wire, clip a piece of wire on the side of box and attach it to the device grounding screw.

In the panel there should be some sort of a bond from the neutral bar to the box. It could be a screw through the neutral bar and into the box.

Also look for a ground wire from the neutral or box to the cold water service and a ground rod.It should be at least a # 6 AWG. This ground could be in the meter box.

Prayers for all who need them

SJ,

No disrespect intended, but I understand completely where Brent is coming from. I'll never buy a japanese car due to what they did to our country on 12-7-41, nor will I ever buy another Garbage Motors product in my lifetime. I don't feel one bit sorry for the people who are connected to GM. GM vehicles are total worthless overpriced junk imho. I am stuck with a worthless Pontiac for 3 years now. I feel the same way about my Probe GT as Brent says Susan feels about her BMW. There is just some special spot that they occupy that nothing else could take the place of. Between the ATX rebuild at 174,000 miles and other repairs, I've got $3,500 into it, and it was worth every penny. Even with 189,500 on the clock, it runs like new.  No one will ever take it away from me. I can promise you that. rant over. Back to Fallout 3.

Jim....Just remember....you started this dialog.

I worked for 33 years for " Garbage Motors ", as you elequantly put it. During that time, they made some mistakes. Sounds like you have one. Keeping it, only gives you the opportunity to complain about it.  There are plenty of American made cars out there, that are great. Sounds like you never looked for one. I have always driven a Chevy, and if I don't....I will drive a Ford Crown Victoria.

I seriously suggest you get out of your "rut".

Also, nobody asked you to " feel sorry " for GM people. There is nothing to feel sorry about. We are well taken care of.

Chuck,

No disrespect intended, but I really don't care what people think of my opinions. Everyone is entittled to their opinion.  They should not be told their opinions are right or wrong. As for my mistake, I bought a 2000 Pontiac Sunfire last year, and had six sepearate problems with the headlight harness due to GM using splice connectors instead of solder. The car also has developed more cancer than my Probe has in places that should never rust due to lack of drain holes and undercoating. I have seen two cases in the family of two different 3800 V6s developing a coolant leak due the plastic intake plenum deforming. If GM used cast aluminum, that wouldn't happen. My brother has a 1999 Grand Am that blew a head gasket at 150,000 miles, and it is never driven hard. His car is also suffering from the typical rear quarter cancer that plagues Grand Ams of that generation. I don't mean to be disrespectful to you, but my experiences around GM vehicles have been much less than favorable, and that is the reason for my opinion. I have been around four Ford Probes (1989 GL, 1989 LX, 1990 LX, and 1997 GT), and all have had few problems combined than I have had with my Sunfire. The 1989 LX was traded in with no mechanical or cosmetic issues with 205,000 miles on the clock in 2001. My 1997 GT also gets 30 mpg with a 2.5L V6, while the Sunfire struggles to get 20 mpg with the 2200 2.2L I4. I wanted to enjoy the Sunfire, but it has been nothing but stress for me. Again, I apologize if I was offensive.

Chuck,

I should add that I had my eye on a beautiful laser blue 06 Cobalt in January, but my experience with the Sunfire made me change my mind. I love the look of the Cobalt, but that I might make the same type of a mistake twice.  I bought the Sunfire with an open mind, but it has been nothing but trouble. I feel that GM couldhave been much more sucessful if they improved their quality control.

Jim.....  I respect your opinion. You have some true complaints. The Sunfire and Grand Am are not exactly GM's best. Too many cost savings ideas, backfired. I think they learned  their lesson the hard way.

Try the Cobalt......Chief has driven one.

We do not have a problem, between us.

Chuck,

Thanks for understanding. Again, I don't have any hard feelings toward you or anone else here. This is just a bit of a hot button topic for me, as I am passionate about cars and the American way of life. The next door neighbor has a rally yellow Cobalt LS, and I like that color as well. I like laser blue due to the purple tint in it. Do you have an experience with the 2200 2.2 or the 2.2 Ecotec? The 2200 combined with the three speed ATX in my Sunfire doesn't have much pep, and I was curious if the Ecotec is any better. I like the style of the Sunfire and Grand Am, but the issues I have experienced seem so simple that they could have been easily avoided. I might take another look at the Cobalt, because my Sunfire has rust starting by the filler door, and from what I understand that is common for the 1995-2002 Sunfire/Cavalier.

Ole Timer,

I am not a big fan of imports. I am a domestic guy. I know that the Probes (except for the 90-92 LX with the 3.0 V6)  are basically Mazdas with the Ford name on them, but that is as close as I'll get to an import.  I am of German descent, and I have no hate toward anyone/nation. I know that bad things were done in Germany around WW2, and I would never suppot that type of thing.
