Aloha from class where everyone is busily working on their webpages in the lab. Just got the new a/c installed - of course, the weather this week isn't supposed to top 75. LOL. Bride called that all three family cell phones have failed in some way again. Can you believe I've gone through 8 phones since April? Eight! Whew. They're not happy with me. LOL. Only another 40 minutes til I can head home. Beacon will be lit!

Prayers for that Battalion Chief.

Afternoon all!

Quiet day here...did some shopping, and played computer games with 4-yo, fertilized the grass...waiting for the rains.  I do hear a lot of thunder, but nothing yet.

Beacon is on!

Fife, Good luck with the pool.  Our grounds are very flat, so that is not usually a problem.

Rich, heard this morning that one of the Batt. Chiefs in Newark fell through a roof at a job. Critical, but they expect him to make it.  One of my best friends is a Batt. Chief there, but was not him.

Computor is messing up, I'll try later.

Well... it sure was funny on round 2.  Smallest princess was on her brother's boogie board.  She managed to "surf" right to the weakest point of the inflate-a-pool.  The ensuing tidal wave watered the back yard pretty good.

Mornin’ Giz...

Another wonderful hot & humid day here in America’s playground.

Have to stop by and swap out the car for the bike later, checking out my seat in the afternoon...hopefully the afternoon rains will hold off until tonight – still calling for spotty storms anyway...

Cleaned up the train room last night, at least you can walk around a bit....banging my head  against the wall, the Bridge to the Legacy only operates 1 track, should I run another wire to the other track to make it work?  No power to that track even thought the ZW is cranked to max...more stuff to worry about.

Really want to redo that room and organize it better...I have so much rolling stock and this is really the time to get it done, since outside activities are limited due to the oppressive heat & humidity.  Might have to build shelving to suit my tastes.

RT- Glad you and the Mrs are ok

Brent – nice work on the porch –

Can’t get the YOUTUBE here at work and the laptop is still giving me fits – but some of the pictures are awesome!!

OK gang be well...prayers to all that need ‘em will check in later

Aloha all. Nice day here for my 'long' one with plenty of meetings and class tonight I'll light the beacon on the train ride home. 8ntruck, hope you do get to ride some Finnish trains. They're pretty interesting.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny & 74 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Yesterday went down to the dock and hung out with the marina owner a bit.  Gonna haul out the Hunter in a couple weeks to power wash the bottom.  Went to Grandmom's 'cuz she's really old and I've been thinking 'bout her a lot.  Stopped by work to remember what the place looked like (back to grind tomorrow) and picked up paycheck.  Stopped by Namco and got a 12 foot pool for the youngest princess.  Sure could have used Chief's help blowing it up.  Challenge is finding level ground in back yard.  Round 1 went to slope.

OH! Dunce Forgot to mention.  Tom came over with a quartet of SantaFe bluebonnets (2 30's and 2 20's).  Neat seeing foreign power on the CONNELLSVILLE SUB.  He also shared pics and stories from the ATSF convention in Chicago.  He is a big fan of Naperville, IL.

Buckeye - really liked all your photos of the train festival, especially all the good detail shots. I kinda forgot how big the big ones really are. Guess I got used to thinking of Consolidations and Moguls as standard size.

Bob.....I'm glad you enjoyed my attempt at train photography,  but this photo puts everything I took to shame.   http://www.railpictures.net/viewphoto.php?id=291978&nseq=10

Managed to get a number of things done around the house today. This place is starting to grow on me, now that I've actually been here for a bitWhistlingThe goal is to be working in the garage later this week. The engine is calling. I figure even if I can get just a bit done a day it will be progress. There is also the advantage of getting the tools organized so I can try different track ideas on the floor of the living room.

Nothing new on the medical front today. Place that did the endoscopy called to make sure I made it thru the weekend ok. That was nice. Have another procedure to be scheduled. Lab work last week is still out there too. Dennis, some of the later thinking by the experts is esophageal spasms, what's your thoughts on that critter?

Buckeye - really liked all your photos of the train festival, especially all the good detail shots. I kinda forgot how big the big ones really are. Guess I got used to thinking of Consolidations and Moguls as standard size.

8mtruck - the cog mechanics sound fascinating. I've been up the Pikes Peak cog railway, interesting but not steam and much less manual labor. With British sports cars and Corvair vans I definitely like the funky stuff.

Brent - know what you mean about what you wanted to say. I keep paper handy and take notes:) Deck looks good! Still wondering about all that green stuff on the ground...

Dennis - w/ you on the French locomotive. Some of the overseas stuff is pretty cool.

Brutus - soldering can be a bit of an art. Especially boards. A couple of our guys at work are the masters, soldering like main chips w/ 100+ fine pins. Use your smaller tip, fine solder, and don't keep the heat too long on the board as this can roast components. You want the tip hot enough for the solder to melt quickly so you don't have to apply the heat to the part very long. You can also use alligator clips as heat sinks near critical parts. Most of the work on my tube radios is fairly heavy stuff and I've learned there is a big difference in finer work.  There's a fair number of good tutorials on the web as well.

Jim - liked the photos of your Flyer collection. Looking forward to seeing those running around all that new benchwork!

Ok, laundry to finish up and then time to crash. Night all.

Bob

Charlie Laugh  SJ is too funny!  Said banilla is on, come and get it, so let's get going before he eats it all Smile  Mike, I've got you on the screen!  8nTruck, I'll drop off a portable beacon for you too, that way we can track you down over there Smile

Keep not getting around to Thomas - stuff comes up.  Tonight I cleaned the grill and just chilled out with the family. Some good chat with RT and then SJ on the computer and now just reading about soldering.  I've never soldered electronics really - just tacked wires to a motor or something.  Don't want to mess up that whistle board.  Also need to add a resistor in there.  Found the directions and a website with info on doing it, so we'll see how it goes.  Just have to screw my courage to the sticking place, as Wm. Shakespeare once said.

Doug M - Great picture!!!  Love it!

Brent - you do good work!  Excellent!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good evening all,

It is constantly changing weather in northern GA as the southern invasion is in its second day.  Advanced successfully to Knoxville on Sunday, catching the defenses napping.  Moved on to Atlanta today and swept thru the city, visiting the Georgia Aquarium where some hard earned Yankee dollars were spent watching Northern Pike and other rare fishes.  Even Yankee fish have invaded the Southland.  Tomorrow I get to start two and a half days of CDC indoctrination.  Brutus, I have a secret beacon lit so you will have to home in on it with the GPS.  I had hotcakes and sauage from MickeyD's this morning on the dining car.  I hope everyone has a good day, but I will have to catch up on the postings when I return to the Hoosierland.

Keep on training,

Starting to pack for our vacation tonight.  Traveling to Finland to visit the foregin exchange student we hosted years ago.  Two week trip.  No rail travel, though.

I'm not expecting to have computer access while we are traveling, so no posts for a while.

Coming back from lunch today we found a rail grinding work train pulled off on one of the industrial sidings.  Interesting piece.  Locomotive at both ends, two crew cars, three tank cars, two generator cars and three grinding cars.  All grungey grimey dirty.  At first glance, it looks like the train has been on fire.

The friend with me had his camera.  We pulled off and took pictures.  When I get copies, I'll post them.

Chief, The birds have been getting my blueberries for a week already.  may have to head to the farm and get a few bucket fulls.  I see Blueberry Cobbler in the future.

Jon, Savannah is great!  Your bride would probably want to make that trip though.  Look up the Roundhouse Museum there....worth taking in.  Mostly self guided tour.  They are rebuilding some steam engines and have several trolleys, etc. on hand.  Also, some great food and real Southern Charm.  If we time it right, my bride loves it there and we could meet you.

Well, was a nice day at work.  I am off call, so just had to check on one patient, work on another and I was out of there.  Did some shopping for the fishing trip this Friday.  Have to keep the son in mind for snacks and entertainment.  He travels well and this will be a good time for the boys to get away.  Also picked up the fixings for making home made stuffed shells.  One thing they don't have around these parts is good Italian food.  I made two full trays of them, one for us and one for one of the couples in our Sunday school class.  He is a Marine Capt. and his wife just gave birth to their second child.  Kid was 9.6 pounds and was a month early!  A Marine in the making.

On the train front, I have been catching up on the latest CTT.  Nice issue.  Hate to admit it, but that MTH French locomotive is looking sweet!  I think I will pass this time around though.

God Bless,
Dennis

Wes, I know what you mean about benchwork consuming space. I got the framing for my second table done, but I have to get more screws to attach the legs. I will look into Sound Stop when I get the screws as well. Brent, The deck remodel looks great.

Brent, your progress looks awesome...times flies when you work all day, then work all night...

Jonadel, Buckeye lives 15 minutes from me.  I live in Powell, OH 43065...

Started framing up some benchwork tonight.  It's amazing how fast the room gets consumed with benchwork if you let it...

Have a good one!

I don't remember when I last posted... I created a Shutterfly site for the deck project.

http://brentsandsusanspicutures.shutterfly.com/

Let me know how it works. I think I have to update some stuff on the site to make it look nicer.

Tomorrow I hope the screened porch is roofed and the sun room has all the walls up and sheeted.

Can't remember what everyone else wrote... Sad

 "Evenin' Guys

Heavy Thunderstorms tonight and plenty of rain...crazy afternoon...

Watching the Yankees and Rays - Yanks up 5-0 and cleaning the train room.

Jon - I can meet you in Savannah or Columbia, I ordered my Sundowner seat from Harley today, I'll test fit it and see if I like it.  Cheaper than a Mustang seat.  Lots of HD guys rave about it.  Looks like I'll be keeping the Sporty - was looking at a Fat Boy for less than 10K, I'm in too deep on the Sporty right now.  I can add bags and a windshield later if needed.

Just so you know - the anniversary is on the 19th - but thanks for the early congas, guys.

Mrs is thinking about getting remarried with Elvis (or maybe Liberace...) in Vegas.  Could be interesting.

Not much else going on - just finished up the dishes and drying my laundry whilst I'm doing the train room.

Catch ya inna bit

I'm trying to figure options for next summer's road trip,  I entered "Roger's Corner" on Google Maps and they said "what"?  Whereas when I entered "Rolesville" they said "why"?  Not sure what to think, but then again, I have all winter to consider options Cool

Jon don't forget if you get to rolesville ( and I agree with google ( why??Wink) I'm just a few hours south in columbia, S.C. and then dennis is GA. a few more hours away.

Pat .... fabulous video !!  I downloaded and saved it .... I loved it . I once told the wife I was thinking of getting an Emmet Kelly outfit and wearing it for the kids at parties and maybe even the train events around here .... of course she hit me with

" just don't shave like you used to on those hunting trips for about a week and wear your old comfy chlothes as you call them .... you looked like a bum then " ....  I do remember the local hobo jungle and the campfires when I was a kid .... my dad always said " never treat them bad son ... they're just fellows down on their luck " and I never did . He would sing that old hank williams song sometimes when he was working .... The Walbash Cannonball ... god I miss him and those days ... Sad

Good visit with the Chief last night, like I've said before, I wish we lived closer together.  With that said, I see a trip east next spring or summer on the bike.  Even though my heart lies to the west as far as traveling goes, it's time for me to point the bike east and just do it.

I have the Today Show on in the background and they are broadcasting from Lake George, NY.  What a beautiful area, wow.  Fife must be there as I see a beautiful sail boat flying gigantic pirate flag Pirate  That would be a stretch for me, we'll see how the budget shapes up and then decide.  The time of travel is also a consideration, I'd like to be gone when the boss is with her sisters in Norway and they haven't chosen their time yet.

A strong part of my focus would be PA with all of the railroad history and Civil War battlefields.  When we came out for York 3 years ago we just fell in love with that area.  Depending on the time of the year I would really like to swing south and hit Savannah, Georgia.  I took a Nikon Photography class 3 years ago in KC and one of the presenters was from Savannah.  He has traveled all over the world and his two favorite places are Savannah and Africa, would love to put Africa on the bucket list but Savannah seems more likely.

It would be wonderful to turn this into a train/excursion/sight seeing trip.  Seems like it could be done in a two week period.  The one objective for me is that I don't want to be sitting in a nursing home twenty years from now saying---"I sure wish I had done that trip to the east coast on the bike".  I try to live my life with no regrets.
