Brent,

Glad to hear that Susan is okay. I've had some close calls myself (one today), but I can't even imagine how emotionally shaken up Susan must be right now. The important thing is that she wasn't hurt.

Jim S.,

           Congrats on the anniversary.

Not much going on today. I got the second table done, so I'll have to cut more wood tonight. I almost had the rear end of the Sunfire removed in Lowes' parking lot as I attempted to back out of my space by some guy who was going about 40-45 MPH through the lot. I blocked him into his spot and gave him a piece of my mind.

Back from lake house.  Lucy is sad.  Will probably not get to go back for several days if not a week from now.  Hope it rains up there.  No rain in several weeks.  Rained all around the place.  We got several showers here while I was gone.  One bad storm with all the extras but very little rain.

Got a call from Don Baker while he is on vacation.  Got this email picture of Don having fun with one of his old school mates.  Don is on the right.

Really glad the Q is OK.

Jim T, give me some layout update.  Did you use Sound Stop?

Afternoon All.

Great weather seems to be setting in, what we had seems to have moved to Bob's region Big Smile, mid 80's and the humidity is gone. Approve

Congrats to Mr & Mrs Phish, Thumbs Up.

88, Hope "Q" is getting over the loss of her Solara, thankfully it was only the car that got hurt.

Started out bad at the museum yesterday, found a dead section of track on one of the lift bridges just prior to opening, Banged Head. A little creative engineering resolved the problem for the day, it should have been properly repaired this morning. Apparently the power drop solder joint was loosened by some ballast/scenic work on monday. Used a strip cut from a soda can to wedge in the track joint so we could operate for the day.

Gotta run, check in later!

Rich, I don't know him personally, but I think he may have taught at some courses I took back then.  I have friends who have been on the job there for 30 years now, and of course, most of the guys I know are retired.

Bob, good news on the EGD.  That brings me back to my first thoughts.  The urinalysis should give some answers.  Unfortunately, the markers that they look for are easiest to see right after you go into a crisis episode.

John, good to see you here.  I am just finishing my tracks for the layout I have.  All wiring is done and I found the problem on the turnout....a loose wire on the underside.  Simple fix, but had to work the tracks apart as they are held together very well.  I switched out engines and am trying to run my K-Line F7 Lackawanna set.  Anyone know what the minimal turn radius is for that?

On another note, big storms coming through the area.  Lots of thunder and power flickering.  Think I will sign off.

Jim - Happy 31!

Dennis, yeah, I saw that.  I got the e-mail from The Secret List (firefighterclosecalls.com).

Did you know Dr. Harry Carter?  He was with Adelphia and a Batt. Chief in Newark for many years.  Great guy and excellent instructor.  I think he writes for either Fire Engineering or Firehouse Magazine.

Good thing he was fully bunkered and masked or he'd be in worse shape.

Just stormed again and I HAVE the seat.  Will install after work is done (45 minutes and counting).

Just waiting for the communications tech to show up. Another hot one here. Will have to water the plants later today.

Doug - I know how that goes at work. There is nothing like just coming in to a 12 hour shift and walking into absolute catastrophe. Only thing worse is when it occurs at the end of a 12 hour shift.

Brent - Glad to hear the Q is OK. It's a good time to have to buy a car anyway I guess. The grass comment was supposed to be a joke. All these pictures from up north and back east and we don't have much like that in the Southwest.

Jim - Happy anniversary!

Dennis - got your email, thanks! No results on the lab tests yet. EGD was fine and just heard the biopsies they did were also fine. They have me scheduled for an esophagram on Monday. Just all kinds of new and exciting stuff.

Need to check the blood sugar, which has been fine for the past week. Then need to finish up this radio for a friend and get it boxed up. In the meantime we will see what kind of phone fun we can get into.

Home early.  Getting ready to work on that turnout I mentioned.  Wife is out with the kids.  When she comes back, it will be alone and we will have a date night.

Jim, Congrats on the anniversary.  Hope you have a great day together.

Brent, Glad Susie Q is OK.  Sounds like it worked out in that she was well, but now needs a new vehicle.  Know you are partial to Beemers, (or is it Bimmers?), anyway, check around as lots of dealers trying to sell.  May be able to get a very good deal.

Rich,  I checked with my friend up at Newark FD., the Batt Chief who was injured is really banged up, but should pull through.  He was on an exposure roof and fell through a skylight.  Even the most experienced can get caught in the conditions on a working fire.

Well, going to jump on the layout work.  Hope everyone has a blessed day,
Dennis

Just a quick check in.  Going to leave work on time tonight as it is our wedding anniversary.  My bride and I have been married 31 years.  I had a card and flowers on the table this morning and reservations at a nice restaurant tonight after Mass.

Brent – You are right cars can be replaced.  I hope Q is OK.

May God bless

Jim

Kurt--PM sent.

Rich--not familiar with that seat but I can gurantee that if the stock HD seat is anything like the stock Honda seat it will be 1000% better.  It will be like getting a new bike.

I'm looking hard at GPS units right now.  It will either be the Zumo 550 or 660, specific to motorcyles--rugged, waterproof and can be operated with gloves on, will also work in the car.  I have a Magellan (about 4-5 years old) that was worth it's weight in gold when we came out to York 3 years ago.  We also used it in FL this last March when we rented a car, got stopped twice by security at the airport--going out and coming back--they just smiled and said "good idea".

A good "early" afternoon ---

Brent - glad she's ok !!!!

More thunder and lightning - end of the world stuff last night.  Almost went to the bike night at the Ale House, but saw those clouds and turned around to get back home - 10 min. later a total wash out.

Saw my new seat, could NOT put it on the bike, had to take off the sissy bar for it to fit then re assemble.  I'll pick it up later today.  HOG meeting Saturday, would like to have it on by then.

Had pork roast last night chicken tonight, so I'm NOT cooking and eating good.  SOmeone else is cooking and that's fine by me.  Dishes are another story, however.

RT - Nice shelves - something for me to lust over...

Was up most of the night - had a runny nose then took a Claritin at 10 (watched Rescue Me, natch!) and it kept me up all night.  Real tired now...and that's not so good.

OK, check in later!

Mornin' Fellas.

Had to go rescue The 'Q' this morning... seems she decided it is time to replace the Solara so she decided to try to occupy the same space as a pickup truck... think the car is going to be a total loss, but she is OK, so that is good. Cars can be replaced, loving wives are another story.

Got some major progress done on the deck last night. The Sunroom how has 4 walls instead of 3, the walls are sheeted and the door and 9 of 14 windows are cut out. The screened porch now has 1/2 a roof too. Today the carpenter hopes to get the roof finished, sheeted and felted. Then when the weather holds for more than 4 hours we will get the skylights installed and the roof shingled. Still need him to install the french door but that can wait a few weeks as I need railings and stairs.

Bob - Not sure what you mean by 'all that green stuff on the ground'? It is a combination of grass and moss, mostly moss.

Morning all!

RT:  Great work on the shelves!  The GG1 train looks great!

Pat:  Great idea on the cow feeder!  Keeping the cows still should keep the meat from getting too lean!  Maybe an ipod to keep their toes a tappin', or maybe a TV with Mr. Ed re-runs.

Brutus:  Thanks for letting me drive last night!  Sorry about the bumpy ride...I haven't been behind the levers in awhile.  Motorcycle training class is August 21-24.  I bought some full height boots, and am still looking for a helmet...I'm shopping bikes online, for prices, but will not commit until after the class.  I did find one that I really liked, but will wait...Sigh  Still trying to save some $$$, but I found a few train items I liked...Whistling

Morning all.  Computer fixed.  Had to run my spyware to remove some nasties.  Typical, downloaded a song of a reputable site, but it sent a bug with it.

Bob, sent you a message.  You are on the right track.

Mike C., a lot of things to do in Hotlanta.  Stone Mountain is neat, also the railroad heritage museum is a good thing to take in.  You can go see the original "General" locomotive.

Well, I popped the one turnout that was giving my trouble.  Has no power.  This is wired seperate from track power.  I checked the connections and they are solid.  It is Fastrack, so looks like I will be taking the back of her tonight.  Then again, our kids are going to a sleep over and so the Mrs. and I may take in Dinner and a Movie instead.  Either way, will address the problem before resuming operations on the pike.  After this is done, we go to scenery!

God Bless,
Dennis

Buckeye! How did you go to Frankenmuth and not have to stop at all those outlet stores at Birch Run? Granny still likes going there even though she knows every store, I think.

RT shelves are great, only funnin as I have shelves every where in the train room.  TTFN...S.J.

Aloha all. Jon, PM sent. Trouble connecting to the Tardis on my train ride home last evening. Ended up reading half of Sherlock Holmes' adventures. Nice day here in the big city - cool, sunny. Was greeted today with the dreaded "oh good, you're here. Maybe you can help me...' ;)

 Good Morning All:

Rain again last night. 4 nights in a row. Haven't had to water things for a week.Thumbs Up

Received the Sept. CTT yesterday. Great issue. I especially enjoyed the article on "Making Your Layout Look Larger". This issue arrived later than normal for some reason.

RT - Nice NASCAR train display. Maybe I will eventually have enough cars to run around the corner and fill two sides of a display.Bow

Good morning all,

It is cloudy in NW Georgia.  Training session had a power outage for about two hours so we are behind.  Probably some Rebs trying to sabotage the invasion :-)  Cost them some casualties on their side as well.  Had a nice evening with the 'saucy wench' exploring parts of Atlanta.  I had a breakfast buffet this morning.  Beacon is lit in the secret location.  Will make a strategic withdrawl tomorrow.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Hot one in the Ol' Pueblo today, supposed to have got up to 107 and no rain in sight 'til early next week.

I finally set up a loop of track in the front room. Up to this point the 2026 has just done circles on the table or back and forth at the bench at the scope. First time she hauled anything but the tender for me as well (broke out all the rolling stock - the submarine car and the cabooseLaugh). Had a little problems w/ reversing at first, think the reversing switch on the RW-110 was sticking. One of the drawbacks of hauling your stuff over 10 miles of bumpy dirt roads. Once that was sorted out, she ran pretty good. Like a lot of these old Lionel's seemed to get better the more it ran. Will have to get a sheet of foam board, as it is fairly noisy on the wood floors here. Sure looked nice w/ all the rods flashing. Very therapeutic.

RT - Nice work on the shelves and nice collection there! Will be a while before I need that many shelves:)

Carl from Hobby Horse is supposed to send out the puller and the wheels cups, so the 1664 may be in action soon. Phone and internet switches over tomorrow, so we'll see how that goes. Hope everyone is having a good week and thoughts and prayers for those in need.

RT - shelves look good.  Is that a Coke switcher pulling the soft drink box cars?

Its the coke set from 1974 with 2 extra Fanta boxcars one is from K-Line and the other is an extra Lionel one. ( the Kline one has applied side ladders where Lionel is molded on)

Thanks for comments about the shelves guy and yes SJ there probably is some weight there but I also put 2 extra screws in the back shelf into the supporting studs that the brackets aren't on.

Finishing up the packing tonight, clearing camera memories, charging camera batteries, etc., then off into the wild blue tomorrow to go over the top of the world - actually, around the top of the world.  But if the airlines flew as the crow flies.....

Was a good day for the layout today.  I secured some of my sections together, and attached legs with gussets to add strength.  Still have some more to do.  So far, I have a 4x10 L shaped with a 2'x4' at the end, making it a 10x6 L.  There is still plenty of room for expansion.

Have a good one!

RT - shelves look great.  Man, I hope they get that AC fixed fast!  We cooled off a lot here due to the storm that rolled through today, dropped 16 degrees in an hour!

Kurt - you want to drive tonight?  What's up with the motorcycle project?

Got my TCA magazine, not sure if it came today or yesterday, but it showed up in my stack of mail today Smile  CTT has a very good issue too - I really like that layout they did.  Interesting little movie about it too Thumbs Up

Need to get over to my friend's house this weekend if I can and help him on his boat.  He wanted to have it done this month, but not going to make it.  We have just had so much rain this year.  He did get a new "seawall" put in at his cabin this year.  Guess I won't get out there again until next year at this point.

Tardis is ready, so let's get going!  A couple beacons are out of place, but we can find them easily Smile
