Aloha all. Beautiful day here! Glad I took today off to take a teen to the Volo Auto Museum in beautiful Volo, Illinois. Missed a tornado yesterday - landed about 7 miles away. It's no use arguing with the company, Brutus, but the boy will be adding this to what he has to work off for me... Wink

Morning.  Sun is out and hot.  Calling for some severe storms this PM.  Got a Mud Cats game and outing.  Hope it does not rain until after we eat. Whistling  Going to mow grass now.  Then run some errands in town.

Pat, love your daily jokes.

One JD box car leaving Roseyville with a load of GRITS inside.  Enjoyed running that one.

Chat later.

 Good Morning All:

Jon - Now I get It. It has been a long time, but I do remember my grandfather using the term "sewer city". His honor does clean up nice. But then you can't see his blueberry stained hands.Big Smile

SJ - Have you ever heard of placing a copper penny on a bee sting immediately after you are stung? Suppose to eliminate the itch and swelling. Someone mentioned that recently, but haven't had a chance to try it (actually I hope I never get that chance).

Brutus - the Wise Farmer cartoon at the bottom of the post is especially for you and your decaff coffee.

Chief - The rain maker! You should take your talents on the road, especially to the south-west USA. All then red bugs on your left leg and none on your right leg means you are registered in the wrong political party!Whistling

For those wondering why the Tardis ride last night was so rough, Mich and I were trying to both drive at the same time.

QUESTION - How to you reserve a hotel room this early for York? I went on line and tried 7 different hotel/motel and all would only take reservations through Aug. Confused

Good evening all,

It has been raining a lot in SE Indiana.  We successfully returned to the Hoosierland this evening.  Lucas did not burn down the house while we were gone :-)   Training made for some long days, but the "saucy wench" and I had some nice evenings enjoying some of the sights of Atlanta.  Except for the downtown area, they seem to be unable to build a road that runs in a straight line????   No offense, Dennis, but there seems to be a definite health hazard there when you cannot see a  car coming until it is two feet away from.  Oh, well, I guess people get used to it.  The other thing is the parking.  We had complimentary valet parking for a Chili's????   In any event, we are safe and sound and glad to be home.  Glad to hear Susie-Q was not hurt.  Soccer team loss 1-0 in overtime in second round.  Guess I should have been there :-(   Beacon is lit.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Chief,

Gilbert used slant-nap mohair on their cattle. Lionel's rubber finger system is much less frustrating, but overall the Flyer 771 Stockyard blows Lionel's 3656 Stockyard out of the water IMHO. I love how you can keep the Flyer cattle walking continuously in their pens. Flyer's mechanism is so much simpler (and more dependable) than either version of the Lionel 3656.

Jim,

I bought the cattle from Marty Cohen (also got the 322 from him), and I gave him a call about the cattle. He told me to use a clothes iron on the lowest setting to slant the nap backward. It worked like a charm, but created another small gremlin. Now, the black cattle go up the ramp, but they run counter clockwise in their pen LOL. I tried to turn them the right way, but they automatically turn back around.Angry Now that I have the 771s, I really want a 766 Guilford Station. Need to control my spending.

Doug M.,

I am still laughing from your barn comment.

Evening all.  Was watching 11 PM news on TV 17.  I made the news along wioth two other Mayors.  Legislature is trying to steal some of our tax money.  Just like those BUMS.  The Dems [I'm going to change my registration] are thinking they are proud of their poor doings.  Link for 11 PM news has not posted as yet.

I know how to make it rain and rain good.  Sunday PM [just before dark] I mixed 15 gals of spray in my JD pull behind sprayer.  Wanted to spray that evening as going to lake next day.  Do not like to spray in the AM due to so many bees working.  Well, before I could finish, a down pour came and I got soaked.  Washed spray away.  Weell, today was sunny so I sprayed the rest of the tank [did neighbor's and my garden].  As soon as I ran out of spray, from no where came a cloud and a down pour.  Then the sun came out.  Gave up, washed out sprayer and put it under shelter.

Went to a Time Warner reception.  Now watching TV.  Going to hit the trains tomorrow before going to a Mud Cats [local farm league team] with other Mayors.  Free hot dogs and hamburgers.  Always free food.

Well, bed time.  Sleep tight.  OH, got a big mess [two big bags] of blue berries from FIL's.  Also got over 50 red bugs on left leg.  Not a one on the right.  ?????

PS: Jim T, check out the little rubber ti-s [can't type it as software will think it is ugly word] on bottom of black cows.  IF they are not standing up good and in the right direction, will not work good.

Hey guys - how's it going?  Hmmm, decaf sounds good Smile  Need some of the skim milk and that pink packet there.  Thanks!

Well, I figured out that my solder gun gets hot really really fast, which is good!  Played around finding out how hot to get the solder, then tacked that wire to the right spot, I hope!  on the whistle board.  Took a while to play around with it all, so quit to do chat tonight.  I think it worked - don't think I cooked the board.  This is on the whistle board that came in Thomas. If I mess it up, I'll get the sound commander board and put it in Annie anyway.  But, it's work a try to save $50 Thumbs Up

Rich - I was talking to my wife about that train, we might try to see it Sunday.  She doesn't think she can walk through it though, so it would be me and the kids.

Doug M - Dang!  I hope you can get the company to cut you a deal?

We got the bill for the first emergency room trip back in April, our share was $502.  We had another ER trip, but all the rest has been outpatient or inpatient, so I think we might be out another $1K in bills creeping towards us.  There went some fun stuff, but that's what money is for I guess.  Just have to catch some more OT.  We have it in the bank, but like to keep a little cusion there.

Bob - being thorough is good.  It took them a little while to figure out what was going on with my wife.  I'm sort of an insurance adjuster for the government and believe me I review a ton of medical records every year.  It's amazing how often it takes a good long time for the docs to figure out what is wrong with a person.  What's worse is when you see they moved or changed hospital systems etc., and the "correct" diagnosis was lost and it all starts over again!  Since HIPAA, this has beome less of an issue, but I still see it pretty often.  I really suggest that when this is all over, you get copies of your records and keep them safe for the future - just some advice, you can take it or leave it.

I know I'm forgetting stuff, but can't remember what it was Confused  Good chat with RT and Jim again tonight and got some good advice on soldering and stuff Thumbs Up

Tardis is ready and we have regular, unleaded and also Summer Ale.  Root beer, banilla, and all the usual stuff too Smile  Let's hit it!  Patrick is driving!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Aloha.
Boy, I read Jim's post about bi-directional cattle without knowing the question he was answering - and it was inadvertently the funniest thing I've ever read - you mean if I go out to the barn and rub the cattle, they'll go in a certain direction. Geez, I learn all sorts of things here.

Looks like cash for clunkers is kaput before it started. LOL. Bob, I hear the Big Island landed a gigantic new telescope. I was counting internet-connected devices in the home today and stopped at 14. Oh boy.

Evening everyone.  Jack and I went to lowes to try to find some carpet for his layout.  I wanted something with low pile, thick, and hopefully looped.  What I left with was plastic, cut looped, shiny indoor/outdoor carpet.  I found a remnant big enough for what we needed, and it was 50% off.  We already have it down and have some track down.  I swear I was going to get all of the realtrax out of here, but there is just too much of it...and I still have switch issues.  Anyhow, we should be running trains this weekend, hopefully.

Pat--

Well, I remember you telling me of your Council Bluff's ties AND I remember my Uncle, who was a big cattle man in NW Iowa.  Whenever we would go to Sioux City with cattle he would say, "ready to go to sewer city"?  I can still hear his voice tonight!  PLUS, whenever the boss and I pass bye on I-29 I'm still reminded of his words.

Jim,

The cattle for the 771 arrived in the mail today. The brown cattle work great, but I can't get any of the four black cattle to go up the ramp. The brown cattle fly up the ramp, but the black ones stop dead at the base of the ramp. All eight cattle have red mohair on their bases and are repros.  Any ideas?

Black cattle are way smarter than brown cattle. The black cattle won't go up the ramp because they know where they are going!DeadDeadDead

Another warm day here in AZ. Some cloud buildup yesterday afternoon, but no rain in sight yet.

Fife - glad to hear #3 fill is holding. 1400 gals? You could almost sail the boat in that.

dougdagrump - nifty sites. I read up a little on the San Diego RR Museum a few months ago when I was doing the Goat Canyon Trestle hike. Keep up the good work.

Jim S - learned that the radio-isotopes they used for the heart test they did on me are in short supply recently. Everybody is getting out of the business and a lot comes from Canada.

Brutus - thorough is the word. In addition to the X-ray on Monday (and all the prev x-rays), plus the aforementioned radio-isotopes, I  will be able to light up a room by the end of the summer.

Have to be a quick one. Have an appointment in a few minutes. Supposed to go up to Kitt Peak with a friend tomorrow to give an impromptu tour for a couple of exchange students. KP is only one hour away and a mere 7K feet so this should be a good test for me. Check back in later.

Evenin' boys.  Mitchie sure did have a pretty day to fish.  Hope he caught a few, especially if he chartered.  Tried to get to Dobbins 2 weeks ago, but "light" air foiled that plan.  Wasn't aware Magothy was that wild.  I love steel drum music, but also don't want to go blind...Blindfold

Chief - Sailing is a lot like dancing, with a partner who can be stubborn.

submmbob - Almost 24 hours, and all 1400 gals still in the big plastic thingy.  Of course, wifey hasn't dipped her little toe in well gotta run...Whistling
