Good Morning

Sun but still chilly. 60s again today.

Welcome Ken, I think I have covered the others. Had an omelet and toast this morning, dining car left the station in a hurry today. I had a small corner of the scale loops that needed a cleanup so I did that yesterday, it does look better after a cleaning. I am a city boy but my guess is feeders mean Hamburger, steak, roastbeef,ect...S.J.

Good morning all,

It is rainy in SE Indiana with temps in the 60s.  Still hope to get the soccer game in tonight.  We play in the rain unless there is thunder and/or lightning, but it does make the ball "dead".  Welcome to all the new 'pot' members!  This is a fascinating place with good people, Tardis trips, Corvair conversations and I guarantee the only forum on the face of the earth where Sarah Fisher and standard gauge trains could be mentioned in the same post :-)   Brent and SuzieQ, good luck in your efforts!!!   Prayers going out to all who need them.  Chief, sounds like a good harvest already.  Praticed soccer with the high school boys' team last night.  Concerned about numbers now as not too many were there.  Was headed for the YMCA after practice, but storm rolled in and I just went home.  Worked on bills and read some from a book I recently bought on Edward Hopper (Nighthawks).  Too much lightning last night for computer work or TV.  I had to calm down the "saucy wench" as she gets nervous when lightning gets close.   I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast this morning.  Beacon is lit for after the game.  I hope everyone has a good day.  (Two weeks until my Norwegian soccer friend gets here TWUMNSFGH).

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Jim, since you are down in Southern Ohio did you visit Davis Trains often. I would drive down I-71 a couple times a year to drool over their inventory. One of the great train shops, a huge disappointment when they closed up shop. Their Thanksgiving weekend celebration was always a great way to start off the Holiday Season.

Morning all. It was 47 overnight - in June. Cool here again. Nice virtual ride last night with Sir J, Brutus, Wes and Charlie. I can imagine that in Union Station - there's another dance-in-a-train station vid that occured in Liverpool station - but was a commercial by T-Mobile. Not as sneaky.  Search Improv Everywhere too for some funky station videos - they're the ones who did that 'everyone freezes in Grand Central for 2 minutes' video.... Welcome Ken - glad you are hanging in there!  Pat or Banks, what's a feeder? Some sort of animal?  I always thought it was a wire to a transformer Wink

Kurt, hope to mail the Carolina car to you tomorrow or Fri morn.

Welcome to the new folks.  Ken, that is quite a story.  Yes, you to have to trust in your team.  One of the reasons they have such a stringent process for recipient selection is the mental ability to handle the after affects of transplant.  That is something that so few can ever know.  Just make sure you ALWAYS take your medicines!

Chief, that was a great video.  I am going to share it with Kim.  How much better would the world be if that was not such an unusual event?   I think we'd all be better off.

Got a MTH "Classic Toy Trains 15th Anniversary" car yesterday from Trainz.  Got the car for $14.00, which, when looking at the bay of E and at some advertisers in CTT, it was a good deal.  Speaking of deals, Chief, it was $275.  I was going by memory and that was wrong.  Anyway, if you want one, seems like a good deal.

Well, not much on the schedule today.  I will go in shortly.  Had planned on spraying the house to keep the critters away, but the sprayer needs servicing.  Will go to Home Depot and pick up a new sprayer and a spare to finish the job tonight.
God Bless,
Dennis

Morning everybody: Light rain and muggy here this am.  Pool is comming along. After killing alge the water turns cloudy and its constant vacuming and filter backwashing but I think I'mgetting the upper hand now. Gave Conan another chance last night, he stunk again. Hate to see that show be so bad, its like he never was on tv before, almost seems nervous and out of place. I met Max Wienberg a few times as he lives in the town I worked in and we sold him a pick up truck cap and a few years later put garage doors and openers in his house. Real nice guy, he autogaphed a promo poster for my son who was taking drum lessons at athe time. Well.... gotta go apply for a job, be back later.....Steve

Chief - Great Vireo!Thumbs Up I swear I spotted you in the middle of all them dancers. I could tell by the veggies you were carrying.

Sign - Welcome  Ken Sign - Welcome

Brutus - I am going to try and hook up the chat today.

Don - Don't you recon the Chinese will build the Hummers and sell them back to us?Banged Head

Banks - There is no better hobby (besides toy trains) than farming no matter what size the farm. We finish 2-3 feeders a year for family. We pour the corn to them the last 3 months. Just don't like grass fed beef. Raising your own feed is a good idea, saves a lot on the cost. Mother Nature controls the yields. Stay on her good sideWhistling

You may barely cover expenses, but you eat well! As far as I know, we are the only two farmers on the "Pot". It's a pleasure to chat with you.

Good morning all.  Welcome Ken. Sign - Welcome  More new folks makes it so much more interesting.

Banks, glad to hear the medical report is good for the niece.  Sounds like you all have a nice little farming operation going there.

Plans are to go down east to Mom's today.   Been real hot [95] yesterday and probably today.  Was suppose to rain tomorrow but got moved to Friday.  Guess all you north western Yankees are trying to hold back all the rain.  I "topdressed" all the garden yesterday and worked it in with my potato rake.  Got to plant more corn this AM so will  have a later batch.  Now I need the rain.  Time for coffee and breakfast.

OH Bob, what is a Corvair FC [forgot to ask the other day]?  I use to rebuild Corvairs.  Had Monza's, a Spider and etc.  Corviar made a truck that the side went down as well as the tailgate.  Also had a van.

Have a great day.  God bless all.

BTW: see Jim has changed his handle.

Welcome Ken Sign - Welcome, always room for one more at the table. This is a good forum with friendly people, sure there is drama at times but I've yet to go to any forum and not find drama, part of life.

Doug M.--car exchange goes out to you this AM, maybe by Friday you should have it, along with some great Iowa sunshine! Did you watch the Cubs choke last night? Good grief.

Today is get the 4 Runner totally detailed, big road trip to North Dakota this weekend as my wife's brother is retiring this weekend, forty years as a Lutheran Pastor. He married us nearly 37 years ago so he must be OK!  Picking up another sister & hubby as they are flying into Omaha from Denver, It is an extremely long and boring drive as they are in the Grand Forks area, will be nice to have company to share Norwegian jokes Laugh

 Hello all,

Thanks for all the prayers.

My niece after five days as an in-patient, and a complete change of medicines and therapists, came home a new girl. She's not out of the woods yet but after a year of struggle has a complete new outlook on life.

Pat  farming is my primary hobby. I raise four feeders each year and finish them for friends and family. My father has 50 hens that he sells eggs from. It is a hobby because in a good year I barely cover expenses.Between my son's place and mine we have about 30 acres that are tillable. We raise Hay, corn, small grain and we've been experimenting with soybean. What we don't feed our animals is sold.

By the way I got 200 bales from the 6 acres I cut. In a good year it would have been 500.

My daughter is in a wedding on SIL side this weekend so  wife and I will have grandkids most of the weekend. Lots of train running.

Prayers for all that need them

Welcome Ken,  from a new member also. Here's hoping that you now have the upper hand on your medical issues.

I see on MTH latest shipping list I have a new loco somewhere in transit to me. The Spokane Portland & Seattle RS-3's from the 2009 Vol 1 catalog were on the list. Nothing like the delivery of a new engine to pump up the adrenalin.

And congratulations to the University of Washington's Womens Softball team in winning the NCAA National Championship with their victory over Florida last night.  Had to put that plug in, U of W is my Alma Mater.

Good Evening all,

Welcome to the many new persons, hope you stay around awhile.

Still fighting the computer issues, but slowly getting the upper hand.  We had a power failure Friday night, and lost the web capability.  After many attempts on reset the router, still no go.  Then the dreaded 2 hours with "Technical Support".  Their resolution was to switch end of the telephone cord connecting the modem to the wall.  Sure..... that's a good idea move a dresser cabinet and other furniture?  I don't think so !  So they scheduled a technician to come out today.  I continued to test at various time thru last night, still no go.  By some miracle the sytem was up and running this morning!!  Without anyone showing up!  Now isn't that surprising.  Couldn't reset the system until today.  Now the only problem is speed.  Our first Dial Up was faster than this is.  I wonder if it is related to the fact that they just installed 'FIOS' in the past year, and can't convince me I need it.  So seems like they are getting down "forcing" us.  Think I will go with the competitor.  Oh well.

Many topics going trough discussion in the past few days.  Can't believe the Hummer is being sold, going over seas.  I mean people out here have trouble seeing over the steering wheel, can't image what that will be like.  Must be some other reasons.

More Later,

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Don

Lost night tonight.  Literally - we are on Netflix and are working through the Lost series.  Watched disc 5 season 2 tonight.  Neat set up in that series to get multiple story lines woven together.

Welcome Ken.

Michrr714 - My wife's grandparents live in Houghten Lake, her parents in Stanton, and my parents in Lansing.  I was watching a program on the science chanel the other day about the six degrees of connectivity.  Something like you are on average six people who know people away from anybody in the world.  I'm seeing lots of posts on this forum from people that live in places I've visited or know somebody who live there to start believing that there is something to that theory.

Later 'gator.

Thanks for the welcome! Over the last several posts I have read several posts regarding family medical issues. If I can spread a little hope here, I will be a happy camper. Each and everyone of us must spend the time and effort to find a medical team that we have the utmost belief and confidence in and that will lead to trust. I had spent the last 2 1/2 years having dialysis 3 times a week for 4 1/2 hours each time along with working a full time job. About a year ago my transplant team gave my cordinator a green light to change my status on the lidney transplant list from non-active to active. It took me more than 1 1/2 years to get to that point. Being non-active means you can build up time on the list but are not eligible to accept a kidney if one comes up. There was all kinds of conditions that I had to meet in order to become active. Had I not had the trust in this team, I don't think I could have puuled it off. Well in January of this year, I got the call. A kidney that matched had become available. The next morning I had the transplant. Well after several weeks the kidney still had not started working allthough all tests showed that it should have been. Well as time went on, I got more and more depressed. My team kept saying trust us. We will figure this out. After awhile I could however sense concern on thier part. Well after 3 1/2 weeks they did indeed figure it out. They did have to go back in and operate again, but that night I passed 23 liters of fluid in 24 hours. That is about 30 pounds of urine. Moral of the story, Medical science is an amazing thing. Keep your faith, pray alot, be honest with your doctors and by all means, if you don't feel comfortable with what they tell you or how things are progressing, find someone else and get thier opinion. Good luck to all of you and I will be thinking about each of you that I have read about.

Oh yeah, my new kidney is working as well as most peoples original kidneys do! Sorry about the super long read.

Fun video!

Welcome Ken - come join us Smile  The coffee is usually really good and we have a hot waitress AND a saucey wench around here somewhere Whistling

BIG storm ran through today, but cleared off by the time I got home.  Finally got to run my trains again after what seemed like 2 months?  Smoked myself out of the basement, lol!  Mostly Lionel/K-Line A5 and Thomas Smile  Oh, they have a bunch of pallets at work that will be disposed-of soon, hope to grab some for wood for future layout.  I think it's mostly white oak, actually?

Great chat tonight.  Some good news for my wife, she does not have asthma.  Old doc had been treating her for asthma without any pulmonary tests.  New doc guessed that was a mistaken diagnosis and testing revealed that it was so.  Too, she will be able to get transfusions outpatient now, beginning tomorrow.  We hope to get more information in the next couple weeks and then develop a plan of attack on this problem.  She does have GERD and the meds they prescribed can't be taken with her prescribed iron???  We'll have a call into the doctor tomorrow on that one.  Thought the drug store would catch something like that?

Prayers for Jack's granddaughter, JimSP's family, Sir James, Miss Pam, Suzie-Q, and all the rest of us that need it for ourselves and our loved ones and friends.

Alright, Tardis is ready and I've got some beacons on the scope.  Jack sounds like he could use some banilla, so we will run over a pint or two Smile  TTFN!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

I have been reading along with you guuys for awhile now. It seems like you all are an incredibly close nit group of friends. That is so refreshing to see in this day and age. You should all be proud of what you have. Now the reason for my first post on the "pot" as you guys call it. I agree. That was an incredibly fresh and uplifting video. I have been through more medical issues than any one person deserves including a leg amputation, diabetes, and most recently (early this year,) a succesfull kidney transplant so needless to say I realy appreciate it when I see things like that.

 THANK YOU!

Well, lets have some fun since the "slimies" slithered over and down rated the POT.

Imagine Doug Murphy arriving at the Chicago train station to this"

This video was made in the Antwerp, Belgium Central Station (train). On a Monday morning, with no warning to the passengers passing through the station, a recording of Julie Andrews comes on the public address system singing “Do, Re, Mi.” As the bemused passengers watch in amazement, some 200 dancers begin to appear from the crowd and station entrances. Enjoy.

Ole Timer,

I am not sure if I got the update yet.  I'll run Windows Update shortly.  I was leaning towards a Toshiba, but Iit was a little more than I had to spend at the time.  I have always heard good things about them though.

Green97probe/ Jim .... looked at about everything ... decided on a Toshiba .... great testimonials and reviews from actual owners . Oh ... I'm surely a Vista man ... have been using it since day one . Have you gotten the new huge update from MS for it ? It's supposed to bring it up close to Windows 7 ... installed it but I have'nt noticed any difference yet ... of course that was only about 2 days ago and have'nt ran any programs to test it .

Brent will be looking for pics and heads up on the screened in porch .... wife's mom had one in Florida ... I can't live without one now .... man are they GREAT ! Wonderful idea on that large door ... her mom's had a standard size and it was a pain moving things in and out . Plus we won't have those tiny little lizards up here trying to sneak in ... LOL .

To all .... felt the tonight show just was'nt the tonight show without Johnny .. NO ONE can ever replace him .... watched Jack Paar I think his name was first ... then Steve Allen ... then Johnny .... Jay was pretty good but .... as far as Conan O'Brian .... Whistling ... never liked him . Dave letterman will get any of my late night watching .... but I don't care for that Paul .... Dave's band leader .... Dead

RockIsland52 .... threw a prayer in for the mom to be a few times ... but forgot who it was ... now I know .... all the luck and God's blessings for a successful pregnancy and a healthy ... beautiful little baby ... I'll keep putting them in ... I know he hears and loves the little children . Angel .... prayers for all the mothers to be and their dear sweet babies .

The UPS guy came today while wife was asleep to deliver that last CF .... whew ! I have'nt had to sneak in the house in a long time .... with a darn huge box yet ... LOL . Yea she threatened me if I bought another one ... that shed out back is'nt where I want to spend the next few nights .... or maybe longer .... Clown

Ray--you are right, it was Branford Marsalis that fronted the band for a while, he was a sax man, primarily alto & tenor. If you ever get the chance to hear Wynton Marsalis GO, he is simply the best. He's the only trumpet player I've ever known that can play the most difficult classical material and turn around and be one of the best jazz trpt. players of all time. I've been fortunate over the years to hear him many times at clinics and concerts, he's the real deal.

Jon, that's great that you got to meet Doc in person.  I taped the last Carson show and when Doc spoke on that tape, he seemed like a very sincere person.  Tommy Newsome who used to fill in for Doc when he was absent, was from my home town (almost).  I'm from Portsmouth, Va and I think he was from Norfolk just across the Elizabeth River.  Did'nt Jay have one of the Marsallis brothers on his show in the beginning before Kevin Eubanks?  I agree that the new band with Conan will be better than the last one that Jay had.  BTW I remember Steve Allen's show too.  He did some crazy stuff on the show like swimming in pudding or something like it.  He used to crack up at his own jokes sometimes and that made me laugh more.  He was a very talented man.  Those kinds of people are sorely missed in TV today.

Evenin' Fellas.

Well we got some excellent news on one front (need continued prayers that the next step works).

But got bad news on the kitty cat. Had to take Tigger in this morning for a teeth cleaning, if she breathed on you we would have to get out the smelling salts. Well turns out 4 of her rear teeth were no longer 'rooted' and infection had set in. White Blood Cell count was WAY down. Well 4 extracted teeth, rest of the teeth cleaned, ears cleaned, and SusieQ wallet being $750.00 lighter Tigger is home and recovering.

Ole Timer - We are building the screen panels individually so the panels sit inside the porch posts, they will be made of 2x2 PT lumber, then secured to the posts using stainless steel screws. I am not clear on how they are doing the railings though. We also decided to make one of the panels a door. We have some large furniture and having a french door with the 48" panel door will make moving these pieces and the patio furniture in the screened porch, and the grill much easier when we move.

Like all my crazy projects I'll be posting before, during, and after shots on my website - speaking of which, there is another project that needs some work!
