Jim........Right. Years and years ago, all nails were square. They were like wedges. It was cheaper to stamp nails out of wire stock, so, they went to round. Railroads stayed with square to avoid splitting the ties.

Yeap. Just picked a half of a 5 gallon bucket full of squash and filled the rest with cucumbers. Got tomatoes turning orange. Maybe ripe by weekend.

Busy day. Planted two 8' Magnolia trees, trimmed branches around the satellite dishes, cleaned maple seedlings from the house gutters, exchanged the front end loader for the spear ready to unload hay, moved the cows to a fresh pasture.
Sounds like the Chief? There is a difference! I finished at noon and spent the rest of the day seating on the deck. Chief would work another 5 hours.
Took 2 hours up and down the ladder doing the gutter cleaning. I don't have gutter guards, but is there a gutter guard guaranteed to not clog with the maple seed pods?

Just talked to Jack [Rockisland]. As he posted, 3 more weeks and "C" section and Granddaughter. Lets all pray she makes the 3 weeks and "comes out" healthy. For a Yankee, Jack is an OK guy.

I heard Doc Severinsen two years ago on his final tour, INCREDIBLE and the band that was touring with him was awesome. It was while I was still working at the Civic Center and I went in early, I was able to talk with Doc while he was warming up, great guy. Way back in the '70's he would occasionally go out and play with high school bands, he played at my old high school and of course I was there to support my old high school. In the '60's we had Rafael Mendez play with our band, he was a great inspiration to me, I still have his autographed albums
I think the new tonight show band will be MUCH better than Leno's band (Kevin Eubank). I remember when Leno and NBC dropped Doc's band, said they couldn't afford them, what a crock. Of course I do remember Steve Allen before Johny, he was so funny.

Good morning all, still in the June gloom weather but sun is out earlier today. Went out to eat last night with the wife and tried a new place. Actually an old place with new owners. Big disappointment. The old place was a Chinese restaurant with buffet service. New place is about the same but slightly different food. Thank the Lord I did'nt get sick last night. That's about the best I can say about it.
Stayed up and watched the kick off of the New Tonight Show with Conan O'Brien. He had on Will Farrow who was not too funny unless I missed something. Show has a new set and is coming from Universal Studios instead of the old place in Burbank. Nice looking set but something is missing now. I wish they would have stayed in Burbank. Something about tradition I like. Conan brought his regular band with him and the old band that Jay had is gone. I wonder what they are doing now. The best band they ever had was the Johnny Carson band with Doc Severenson. It's been down hill since they left.

When I was shopping for my laptop, it seemed that Compaq and Toshiba were a better deal than comparable Dell laptops. I got a Compaq CQ50-115NR for about $400. It has a 200GB HDD, AMD Turion 2.0GHz dual core processor, 3GB of DDR2 SDRAM, 15.4" display, NVIDIA GeForce 8200MG garaphics card, and it runs Vista Home Premium with no problems. Don't believe all of the garbage out there about Vista. It is far superior to all previous versions of Windows IMHO. I would suggest getting a copy of Windows Vista The Missing Manual by David Pogue though. It will give you a better understanding of Vista, and it is a great book for anyone considering Vista.

I am stuck at home today waiting for a delivery. I was going to buy another muffler strap for the Sunfire, but I have to wait now. I hit a speed bump a little too hard yesterday, but the strap was rusted anyway. I also went on an N64 spree yesterday and bought five games, another controller, and a Rumble Pak. Almost bought a GameCube, but I decided against it. I can't believe what the older games are worth.

Raining down here again! High should be near 90 again, almost like being in a giant clam bake cooker as the huimidity is very high after it rains during the day and then the sun comes out and cooks the humidity.
Been busy wuth work and stuff around the house. Last week I did some stencil work on some hopper cars and it turned out pretty good. Maybe if I feel like it I will work on my laser kit building, started it over two months ago.
Trying to sell the RV in the carport as it is too much of a financial burden. Even with somebody living in it we can't meet all the bills for the RV. This year alone it cost us $750.00 just for repair items. Speaking of the RV I will check the next water bill and see if it comes down any as I have the RV back on the holding tank and 12 volt water pump.
One of my former co-workers went over by Tampa to an aviation mechanics school, I hope that he does well after school. To me it is very risky to go to school and then try to get a job after you graduate in this economy, but that is just me.

Thank you, all of you, for your recent and successful prayers for my daughter and son- in-law's pregnancy trials and tribulations. Our daughter has been on bedrest for what seems like forever, so I have been MIA on the Pot, trying to help them out any way I can. In order to maintain some semblance of normalcy and progress in their lives preparing for a new baby, family and friends have been chipping in to lighten the load. T-Minus 3 weeks and counting.
This past weekend my wife and I hosted a baby shower. Unlike normal baby showers where it is a "women" thing, we invited husbands and kids as well. The weather cooperated and we had about 35 folks over for what turned out to be quite the seven hour indoor/outdoor bash. I'm still cleaning up and putting stuff away!
My apologies for missing those of you who have needed or are in need of prayers. So I will try to begin with this new Pot rendition.

Sun but cool, not exactly June temps. at all.
I called my M.D. this morning and he has refered me to a gas-oligist. I am waiting for his office to return my call. I have a real problem on my hands as a death in the family would take me an hour away from home and I am in no mood to be embarressed that way. My cousins wife, a couple we have been very close with over the years. I am hoping for a real quick change in my condition.

Wes.....When you mount your horizontal decking boards, make sure that the grain is going downward. This will keep them from warping.

Ole Timer, regarding your laptop you might want to check out Dell. Dell makes small laptops they have one with a 10 inch screen that is real easy to carry and has good battery life. They got rid of the the 9 inch screen as the keys were to small, I have a Dell mini10 and it works so far so good...If the mini10 is to small the also make a mini 12. You can buy them new or look into their outlet store and get a refrubished one.

Brent /lionraoar ... never used composite .... looks great by what I just researched from your suggestion ... want my wife's carpenter - brother to build a screeened in porch here ... sounds like the way to go . Our deck has the spikes popping up as the pressure treat moves .... hate that . Plus that composite comes in colors ! Thanks for the idea . Now for some good ideas from you on screen units for it .... would like removable ones instead of stationary .... always open for free advice ... LOL .

Gonna go shopping for a laptop .... thinking of the easier to carry smaller screened one ... darn phones are way too small for me .... full sized laptops are too big to lug around . Lousey rain again here today ... but weekend is supposed to be beautiful ... wife and I are going on another mini road trip ... fire up the hyundai ... 34 mpg. and turn on the GPS and just go for it in the mountains north or west this time ... saturday . Just hope no deliverance types are there ... LOL .

When I see the individual boards on our deck deteriorating, I think of composites. Greetings from a cool and rainy Iowa. I almost turned on the AC yesterday as it was very humid in the upper 70's with no wind but it cooled off fairly quickly last night. I do have the dehumidifer on in the train rooms and drain that twice a day, wish there was a floor drain in those rooms.
Dennis -- I agree with you about B & H, great company.
New laptop is up and running like a champ. The wireless router is wonderful and I'm getting a very strong signal everywhere. I did hire a tech to set everything up for me, he worked hard for two hours and was just flying, those guys just amaze me with their shortcuts and abilities. I may have him come out this fall and help me with more organizing on both computers, he's self employed and has worked for me once before -- I just think it's money well spent, makes my life easier. Both of my sons are also good at this but they just don't get home as much as I'd like -- but we go visit them, quite a bit, easier for Mom & Dad to travel than for them to load up the house and come here

Mornin' Fellas.Off today so I can take SusieQ in for a procedure. Nothing serious - this could lead to big news. Wes - saw your note about the deck. Ever consider Composite? That's what we are putting down on our screened porch. Have to stop at HD today to get one more lumber quote, then it is time to decide who gets the order! Is the new deck going to be 24 x 14 or 19 x 19? Our current deck is in two sections (levels) the lower level is 16 x 14 and the raised area is 10 x 16. We are expanding the raised area to 16 x 16, screening it in and then turning the 16 x 14 deck into a sun room. I think I have the insulated floor worked out too. Going to take the ballisters from the existing railing and use them to create shims between the floor joists, then cut 3/4" OSB to fit between then joists, secure all with stainless screws and then put some 4 mil plastic over the joists and filler board then fill the voids with insulation, 2x10 joists should give me somewhere around R28. Really looking forward to getting this project moving! Good luck and post some pics - of the deck and trainroom!Hope to get some pictures taken today and posted of the CPT cars... I owe Wes for last month and I have Kurt's waiting for some current construction to finish up.
