Just winding down the work weekend. We too are refinishing a deck, and I got as far as screwing down about 1/4 of all of the boards. Its a single layer 19x19 deck. Made the deck with 10' and 12' boards to stagger the joints. All was pressure treated. i wanted cedar...just too much to purchase this time around. The 10's arrived wet and green, and the 12s were all dry, cracking, splitting, and warped. We have been fighting to get them to lay down straight, and since they have already dried up, the have also shrank. The best we can do is try to imaging what the 10's are going to shrink down too. Just one more hurdle, I guess. It looks darn good though. We also got the chainsaw out and groomed some trees around the yard and loaded down a 5x10 trailer with limbs the best we could. Looks better, but we have another load to get out of here.
Started working on some benchwork down in the train some too. It's been knocked down a couple rungs on the priority ladder, but I'm slowly making some progress.

Good evening all, Went to TTOS meet in Arcadia, California today and ran into shake and bake, our buddy Don over there. He snapped a picture of my ugly mug and put it on the Sunday Photo Fun section. DBaker and I had a long winded conversation about all things train related. Don left before me but I stayed almost until the bitter end this time and watched some of the auction. Don't think I will stay that late next time. Auction starts too late. I came in at 10:00 am and auction did'nt start until about 1:30PM. By that time I had lost interest. I picked up some traction tires from the parts man. Don is going to try the Bullfrog snot he got from somewhere to take the place of rubber tires. I need to do something like that too. I had my eye on an early MTH GP9 in the first generation ATSF blue and yellow colors. It was on a table and the seller offered me a good price but I talked myself out of it because it had no sound system or control. It was conventional. I already have a couple of units like that in the SP name and I don't run them much anymore since I got spoiled by command control. I figured I probably would'nt run it much and I don't need another shelf queen.

Well, did get down to the dock, where I swabbed the head, boy polished the metal, and we both oiled the teak. Then the ladies wanted to go out for a sail, so we headed out, but a bit breezy (up to 17 mph). The Hunter heeled well at 15 degrees, and actually makes good speed. Docking under those conditions is still a little "testy".

IIABSDISEI with temps in the 80s. TMWUMNSFGH. Watched the IRL "event" last night. Can't really call it a race as Ryan Briscoe ran away and hid for most of the race, only to lose on the last pit stop under yellow to Castroneves. Bad night for the good guys. IV had a suspension piece break after getting up to 13th. Sarah had electrical and transmission problems and struggled to 17th. The Princess was 6th. Not much passing. Button won the F1 race and Red Bull was 2nd and 3rd. At least one number 14 had a good day as Tony Stewart won the "taxicab" race. I had waffles and sausage on the dining car for breakfast. Beacon is lit. I hope everyone has a good day.

Cloudy all day, rain and storms expected through Tuesday.
I did some layout cleaning today. You can't tell it though I am still working one small corner. I also removed the broken lamp post that I had standing up with tape. They really looked bad in the videos Charlie and Kurt made. Cleaning is also why I keep part of the layout covered. It's time consuming.
Banilla is waiting for the thingy. I think it's my turn to light the fuse....S.J.

Evenin' FellasWell the lumber has been ordered, dumpster arranged, and deck demo has begun. Dumpster arrives on Wednesday, lumber arrives on Saturday... carpenter - oh... he may not make it this weekend as he is doing work on FiL's house. Oh well I've got more than enough demo to keep me busy and then I can start the construction that I know how to do. rest can wait till he gets here (maybe next weekend).Fife - forgot to mention - congrats to the eldest princess! Any more word on her evacuating? Chief - sorry to hear about your loss... prayers for you and buckeye.A little update. The 'procedure' on Friday was completed w/o complications. Take a few days off and boy do you have some reading to do! But at least I think I found out what the Tardis is, but I always thought it was the Targis, must have needed to clean my ears...Well if you guys fly over southern Arizona, I'll see what kind of spectral signature it has in the submillimeter.

Ole Timer - have you seen the tractor books by Roger Welsh? He is an Allis nut. The story of the tractor he calls the Woodpecker in "Busted Tractors and Rusty Knuckles" will make you laugh and brings tears when it finally starts.
OK with all the farm and ranch stuff recently I had to share this, although I'm sure it will brand me a Yankee for life (I do eat grits though). A western rancher is visiting Maine (where my dad was from) and he is bragging to an old Maine Farmer that his ranch is so big it "takes him 2 1/2 days to drive around it". The old farmer simply said "Aye yah. Had a '52 Chrysler w/ the same problem".
Didn't make it to the show this weekend, alas. Need to finish the 1664 anyway, and I'm sure there was a switcher there for sale that would have sidetracked me Will order the puller and wheel cups this week.

We went to Nashville to get together with friends this weekend. All I can say is that country music ain't what it used to be. Not one honky tonk on Broadway and 2nd Ave. featuring traditional country.
Home again. Wifey had telescope out on front deck last night. Saw something flying through the sky. Told her not to worry, it was Brutus and gang passing overhead. Good visit. More done to pontoon and grass mowed and trimed. Water was way up in the parking lot when we got there. When we left today, total area flooded and still rising. Other ramp for high water has road and ramp under water too. Had over 3 inches of rain the other night. Signs of washing everywhere. Now to mow here tomorrow AM. Going to rest tonight. I actually did more resting than I ever have while there. SIL and and her two kids plus other SIL's son came up last night and stayed until middle of afternoon. Chat later.
Evening all. Busy day. Cleared the former dining room nee library for repainting; served unexpectedly on camera at church as a last-min. fill-in, saw my dramatic debut in a video seeking service volunteers. I was the guy choking on a doughnut - LOL. Went by the local Hobby Towne - saw nothing of interest to spend my birthday gift card on, so I gave it to my middle boy to honor his year end work - I think he passed math with a D - but I'll take it. He bought a model Ferrari. Hope you're feeling better, Ole Timer. 8ntruck, that ragtime fest sounds like fun.

Went to the Scott Joplin ragtime festival downtown yesterday. Had brats and homemade icecream, wandered about for a while listening to various ragtime performers. Then went home to yard work and various other improvement projects.
I did stop by the hobby store and open negotiations on the MTH GM Aerotrain. I'll find out next week how much he wants to deal.
F1 race this afternoon, then my wife and I are planning on seeing 'Night at the Museum'.

Oh well, told her she can come and paint when I get the other rooms and hallway mudded, lol!

Had a good deal offered to me yesterday but had to turn it down as I don't have the room to do O72 track . JLC GG-1 Retail $899.99 offered to me for $450.00 . Oh well thats life I guess. Howdy all! Well, I should have been at church this morning, but had to come babysit the new guy on a emergency case. Had to do the same thing yesterday. Got to impart some knowledge yesterday as it was a case where the information just isn't in a text somewhere...learn from doing. Anyway, keeps me busy. Did video camera on Executive Pastor's son's wedding yesterday. Was a great event and all went well. When I get home have to get some layout work done and then tonight, we are having a concert with John Waller "while I'm Waiting", at the church...I'll be on camera again. May need some Aleve for my back by the time its done.
Buckeye, sorry about Tom. Will pray for his family and you through the grieving process.

Nice day here today going up to 82. laz Camp starts tomorrow at 0530. Run a nice 3 miler, then eat breakfast, then do a 6 miler on bike. Cut back the rododendrums and other leafy shrubs. Afternoon hit the weights for a half hour. So today is a relax day.

In between graduations and graduations parties the last two days I did get a chance to put a consist of 6464 boxcars together and give em a run on the layout. Started out with a Postwar diesel, to much slippage so I switched to a 4 motor set of MTH F units. No problem with those guys pulling the Postwar rolling stock. Heck of a difference between tugging 15 Postwar rolling stock and 15 modern era rolling stock.
The weather finally has been great in Central Ohio not too hot and crisp mornings. Need to get up to Marion next week and do some railfanning at the diamonds.

Thanks Jon. I also use the 98% on 2% analogy. Some days the 2% seems like 200%. On Monday, I have yet another meeting with parents that don't know what they want for their child, but know that everything we do is wrong. Argh... The last meeting went 4.5 hours. I am setting a time limit of an hour for this one.
Stopped by the local train shop yesterday and eureka he was open. Had stopped two other Saturdays and he was closed. Found a Chessie tank car for $20.00 which wasn't a bad price. He did not have the Gargraves standard gauge curved track I wanted in stock. He said he would order it, but 12 pieces to make a circle at his catalog price of $11+ dollars per piece plus shipping is too rich for my blood. I will have to keep looking at different shops and shows. I had seen it somewhere and thought it was at this place. It will give me a good excuse to hit some other train shops.
Prayers to Buckeye, Chief and others who have lost friends and loved ones. Tis never easy. One of my oldest friends from high school is battling *** cancer now. I just hate to see her suffering but she has such a good attitude.
Well, only 5 more days to go and two of those are half days for kids. I know I can do it, been there and done that 34 times now, and no end in sight.

Kinda shook some of us when she turned to her husband and said, "Honey, will you buy me a new engine!" Now that's a switch! 'Spent the entire day running my ATSF Hudson with heavyweight passenger cars!
