Sunny and about 80 here today. Supposed to be like this all week.
Steve W. - Welcome. It is good to get another yankee on board. I keep trying to explain that grits is a rating system for the roughness of sandpaper. Not too sure everyone believes me.
Anjdevil2 - GTX Hemi vs Buick GS Stage 1. Yup. That is one of the oldest arguments in the realm of muscle cars. I think it comes down to who is driving and who prepared the cars. I'll just leave it at that 'cause we've been warned several times about politics on the forum! :) Wait. This would be bench racing. I think we are OK.
Fife - I might mention that Making Port is an old book, maybe published in the early 80's.
Doug - office overlooking Lake Michigan. I'm jealous. If it were me, I would not get much work done.
Evening all!
SteveW: Welcome! Glad to have another loony around the farm. I tried you're website link and browser said it couldn't find it. I hope the butter on the grits is used to make it slide out the truck and onto the hole asphalt.
Quiet day here. Mowed grass, played baseball with 2-yo, and 4-yo. I think the cold is about over...finally.
Kurt
Greetings from my 15th floor computer lab looking out over Lake Michigan, where my students are hard at work tonight. Pat, 'English' refers to the esteemed John Baker, from Ole Blighty itself who used to frequent the Pot when the forum behaved better...

Hello Steve and welcome. We have a lot of fun on the Coffee Pot thread, thanks to Bob K our moderator. You should know though that some of us (like RT and Sir James I) don't have a true appreciation for Grits. You apparently do, and eventually RT and Sir James I will to, although it may take years. Grits are great, and you know us southern boys don't lie. And listen to Ole Timer, he rarely is wrong and knows what is happening (don't tell him I said so, might go to his head).
Steve - When Jon says "Funny Farm" he is not exaggerating, but we do have fun. Ask him about his world famous Baked Beans. No kidding!
Fifey - I got to ask, who is English!?
Hello Chuck. Is there ever a day when you can just relax, no chores, no errands to run?
Hay Chief - Lots of rain here in central VA. Everything is rising - rivers, streams, creeks, ponds, even puddles in the driveway. We drain more into the James river. One thing NC has we don't is a 3 week earlier growing season. I envey your produce comming in now.
GregM - Chickweed rampent here to, but it will die back in a week or so.
A stoem Sat. night knocked out the well pump and telephones. Took until today (Tues) to get back to noemal. We still love love living in the country!

Welcome aboard, Steve. I lurked for a month or so before I joined up five years ago. Couldn't decide which forum would be the best for me and my time restraints.

Steve--WELCOME to the funny farm, maintain thick skin and don't believe a word of what Chief utters. He's a good man but sometimes he gets a little sidetracked (pun intended)
Sometimes we have to ask questions twice as some of us have to ask (me) "what was the question" ? A good group of folks here who don't take ourselves very seriously
Jon
So many roads, so little time.
Thank you RT, I'm stuck in lovely Lakewood (seemed like a good idea when I bought the place)it borders bricktown. Both my brothers moved to NC 25 years ago, I should have followed them. Jersey has alota train history though. In fact all good things about jersey are history. My avatar is CNJ592, that was my grandfathers loco(among others) and has survived and is in the B&O museum. He worked as an enginer at cnj for 50 years.
Welcome steve. yeah watch out for the chief and patrick and there grits. I'm a yankee stuck here in the south but loving it just not all there strange ways thou. Now dennis is our doctor in the group he's also from N.J. if I understand him right but he has been converted to southern it seems I basicly grew up in PA. In fact I use to date one girl in N.J. ( bricktown) till we had a fight and a month later called her freind girl that was living in the same house as her that was From PA./MD state line area anyway she is now my wife. (shes acually a southern as she was born in highpoint, N.C. )
Any way welcome to the foruem and glad to have you.

Mothers grand parents ( all 4 ) were right off the boat from Ireland. My great grand parents on her side lol. Father side not a drip of irish in it.
Steve ... was very glad to help in any way I could and you're very welcome for that thank you ... and welcome aboard the best thread on the forum ! You're going to like it here ... a bunch of very good folks with that down home hospitality and humor .
Steve - FYI Exit 8 NJTP (even though you didn't ask me...)
Just tossed a VW from the train store (it was in pieces and yup, looked just like a ZW), though I had no specifics. Being the pack rat that I am, it almost broke my heart to toss it, but there were so many parts, I didn't think I'd have the time to repair it correctly.
Raining VERY hard right now and wind is picking up. I had to cancel my pick up of stuff from the LTS just because the weather is THAT bad.
I have my little stray cat inside, provided her with food and shelter and of course the litter box. It's a shame that someone would abandon her. But, the "E" team is keeping her comfortable with a dry place and food.
See ya in a while, have to dodge the water and get home to cook din din.
I am the monster in your head...And I thought you'd learn by now, It seems you haven't yet.I am the venom in your skin --- Breaking Benjamin
Thanks for the welcomes guys!
dewiemer; what part of dirty jerz do you hail from sir?
Hey I kinda like grits, lots off butter, salt pepper, and half a bottle of hot sauce, stays with ya for a while!
Anybody heard of a "VW" transformer? one on ebay now. It looks like a Z but its only 150 watts. Never knew it existed........Steve
Welcome Steve W, watch out for the Chief he will try to make you think grits are for eating when in fact the only thing they are good for is patching holes in a road. Caution is advised.
Phish, Man I got it. When I remembered Phish=Flyer my "dummy" lite came on. I have a red spot on my forehead where I slapped myself. S.J.

Welcome Steve! Busy day here - surprising how much is involved just moving a measly 200 people across the street and up 15 stories in a few weeks. Getting ready for class. Summer has apparently arrived too with Chicago's weather...
Welcome Steve W. I am also formerly from NJ, but don't like to admit it Still have a lot of friends and family up that way. Since you have been lurking for some time, you know we are quite a varied bunch here and all enjoy the trains. Trying to catch up on all the digital photography stuff as I mostly have film cameras. This one will be nice as it still uses all the old lenses that I have. Rather exciting to see what it'll do. All reports seem to show it will do more than I am capable of.
Have an easy day as I am on call. Case was done before I arrived today and I'm just here for emergencies. One of the guys is going to a meeting the end of the week, so I'll be a bit busier then. We have a lot of paperwork I need to catch up on, so I had better get to it.God Bless,Dennis

Fife - This is the "R" rated version....http://www.westpacstories.com/The_Seabat.html
Steve W.
Just watch out for the grits brigade.
Mowed grass yesterday, it is really green and growing fast right now. Shame it will turn brown when the inevitable dry spell hits this summer. Going to spray weeds again tomorrow, wait 48 hours or so after cutting to allow grass to heal. Chickweed is growing rampant in some places.
Having the roof inspected later today. Lots of neighbors having their shingles replaced due to hail damage. Will see what inspector and insurance company say before agreeing to anything.
I plan to put a Lionel CP Rail GP-9 engine, eight CP boxcars and a matching caboose up for sale at the neighborhood garage sale later this month. Wonder if there will be any interest and if it sells. Read thread on other forum about high cost to ship trains these days.
Morning all. Slept till 8:30. Then ate a bowl of grits [no joke]. Wifey is not doing good this AM. Stayed home. Then suddenly the rash was gone. Got to wait it out. Pretty much think it is reaction to her thyroid meds. Stopped them. Thanks all for your concerns. Great support group. Cool here.
Ole T, were they still shaking in the box when they arrived? I know they were when they left CA.
Bob, MGB. My buddy is a big MG club guy. He restores and rebuild them.
Rich, make a Word list of train things that you want to sell and the price. Email it to the gang and see if anyone wants to buy before putting on Ebay. Got anything with NS on it, I'd be interested. Shake and Bake and I were talking last night and were wondering how things were going for you.
Patrick, must be a lot of rain up your way. Kerr is still rising. You drain into the Stauton?
Fifey, plenty of life jackets to match all of your passengers weight. They are sticky on that one.
Well, got to get grass mowed. Have a great day.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....
It is another beautiful day. Sunny and 57 degrees. Going up to 75 today with sunshine.
Today is a busy day. I have a few errands to run and the usual chores around the house. Then, I will relax.
The dining car arrived from " Points West" and we had the usual for breakfast.
Y'all have a great Tuesday.
Chuck
sir james I Phish are you sure the 716 is from 1946 as that is a prewar number. Just curious.

Sir James,
Sorry to hear about the shakes.
The prewar dump car is actually numbered 486 and is yellow. The 716 was introduced in 1946 and ran through 1951 and its red.

Mornin' boys. Mornin' English. Sunny and a cool 50 here in the Mid-Atlantic region. Lots of "honey-doos" this week before Saturday = Got to get fifedom "ship-shape" for a graduation party in 2 weeks. Lots of projects to finish. Fifey's wifey is pretty jazzed about having her name on the sailboat's title. This is her first actual vehicle she has owned. ...and she still wants that yellow toilet hoisted...
8ntruck - I'll keep an eye out for that read. Thanks.
sir james - I hear ARIZONA is nice this time of year.
anjdevil - Sea Bat...gonna have to look that one up.
Buckeye/jonadel - Thanks for the "guidance"...
cheapclassics - Agree wholeheartedly about Dancing with Stars. I just wished they keep the "latin lover" types out, as they seem to hog the attention.
Morning all. Summer is here in Chicago and of course I wear a big coat. Well, it'll probably come in handy late tonight as I have my class. Looking forward to 'riding the train home' with any of the boys on Yahoo Messenger. Glad Pam is feeling better, Chief. If I'm right about where Bob works, I think he has the coolest job in the world. Like to see a photo of that MGB someday. Mike C, we've had a series of articles and letters in the paper lately about the smartness of our dogs. That's a great story. Rich, glad that car is enjoying sunny FLA.. Hope I get the hang of eBay someday. I've just bought things for 'sale' instead of this crazy bidding down to the last second. Good thing Brutus keeps an eye out for me too. Ah well. Going back to the Art Institute later today - it's free all week.
Good Morning
Sun is up going to lower 70s today. I am going to plant tomatoes, good thing I waited as we had lite frost Monday morning. Daughter and SIL sold their boat for what was owed on it as he has been out of work since early December and not much chance of that changing any time soon.
I got the shakes in my hands think its from the meds. Have a great Tuesday.....S.J.
Doug ... it'll happen ... you'll get one ... about the time I give up on a car or engine ... a couple days or weeks later there it is . Patience my friend .
Those 3 k-line diecast skeleton log cars finally made it from california . I don't know why it took UPS almost a week and a half to get them here . Have to get ready to haul out to a funeral tomorrow in Cumberland .... man I hate funerals ! Cold and darn chilly here in the hills ... at least the sun's out today .
Take it easy guys and be careful .....
Mike that's a funny story about the nerf gun and the dog ....
Morning boys....
Brutus & Chief - for your wives..
Fifey – Good luck on the boat. Short story....My Dad spent 21 years in the US Navy and when he retired, he swore he’d never get on another boat again....Mom convinced him other wise, and they bought a 24’ sailboat (Sea Bat by name, you old Naval salts know ‘bout them, right?). Dad just sold it last year....
Well, the madness is over for now, the sale was a success and I did my recert tests on Thursday, hopefully that went well (That will take up to 5 more weeks for the results).
Have to get to the train store and grab the left overs....I’ll have to bring a truck, that’s how much I have. After Memorial Day, I’ll ebay the remainders...so much stuff, still.
Doug, I have your car on the track, I’ll be getting photos (finally!!) of it and then pass it on the the Chief...
Summbob – welcome!!
8ntruck – I will not (though I am tempted) to debate the attributes of the Buicks as we all know that only senior citizens drive ‘em. If you really want to go fast with REAL class, drive a GTX with a 426 Hemi 4 speed. (Now THAT should stoke the fires.....).
Weather during the weekend was HOT (High 80’s) and a little breezy, yesterday and today are “polar” opposites. Rain (up to 6 inches) and wind (up to 50 MPH) high in the ‘70’s low in the lower 60’s. At least it’s comfortable to sleep at night. I like that.
I have so much train stuff from the store, I have no place to display it (yeah, I know, sucks to be me, right?) It really is the last hurrah for a while, still need to find an abode by August.
That’s all the news from North East FLA. Hope Phillyreading is doing better south of here (and asch as well).
Talk to ya later!
Good morning all,
IIABSDISEI with temps getting above 70 today. Watched "Dancing with the Stars" and all of them deserve to win. Very good competition. Did weights and practiced a little last night. Did some errands and got trash together. Ole Timer, please accept my belated condolences.
Must tell you about interesting incident with dog. Dog likes to chase squirrels. Squirrels like to climb utility pole in back yard. Dog has no way to get squirrels down. I take out new 25 shot rapid fire Nerf gun (battery powered tractor feed) and shoot up an impressive array of Nerf bullets in the general direction of squirrel. Squirrel comes down pole. Dog chases squirrel unsuccessfully up another tree, but is grateful for opportunity. Now dog waits for me each time I go outside to see if I am "packing heat" lol. One of these days we will collaborate successfully on getting rid of rodents!
Had a little extra on the dining car this morning for breakfast before sending it to "Points East". Getting "psyched" for GSIR (Go Sarah, Vitor and Quattro!) Beacon is lit. I hope everyone has a good day.
Keep on training,
Mike C. from Indiana
Good Morning from beautiful FROSTY Southern Ohio
Pretty morning but cool. Just a quick check in as I am at work and the guys are getting started. Never a dull moment!
Chief - Glad your bride doing better; will continue to keep in prayer
Subb - Welcome!!!!!
Doug - Good luck next time on the bay. Sniping is an art form
May God bless
Jim
Well the receiver is back together and we will start cooling it soon. Weather's not that great so we are not missing much anyway. Just had coffee staring off to the south from the 5th floor landing. No lightning but lots of clouds coming up from ol' Mexico.
Doug I feel your e-bay blues. I was just watching a 224E and it was very quiet until the last few days and then got interesting. Almost up to a 100 and it's not over yet. It's probably worth it as it's in nice condition. I need to finish the 1664 anyway and spend the money on the puller and wheel cups. I find it entertaining to surf the buy-it-nows looking for good deals. I found the later model submarine car that way.
Not much train work left for me at this point. I need to replenish my dremel supplies to finish the track. I have enough newer track and cleaned track that I should be able to set up a decent oval when I get back home. Will at least be able to drag around the submarine and hopefully the caboose I just found w/ the 2026. The big project will be to finish putting the garage in order and starting the assembly of the MGB engine. I've noticed a number of old train folks being into old cars as well. Glad to hear the GS driver was OK. Sounds like he will have some work ahead of him.
Have a good evening
