Mornin’ from sunny & humid FLA USA

Slight breeze now going up to 90 today.  This is the last week of school and the princess gets Friday off as she flies to New Jersey for 13 days on Thursday.  I’ll probably visit my Aunt & Uncle in Vero Beach Saturday & Sunday.

Added a few more things to the layout over the weekend, the MTH signal is pretty cool, I just wired up to track power and viola!  it works.  I may get some of those Z-Stuff for trains sensors.  They seem smaller than the 153IR and probably work better.  That’s on the list for next time.  Need to build shelves for the rolling stock.  I may take a couple of  days off during the summer for mental health reasons.....

I have the inventory list compiled, so if anyone is interested shoot me an e-mail and I’ll send it on.  I contacted a buyer for the remnants of the train store, so we’ll see how that goes.

A little busy at work, it’s tough staying awake with the pain meds for my lower back.  But I still have a job, just can’t call out sick right now.

That’s all for now...I have a meeting soon, so I’ll check back.

Good morning all,

No rain yesterday and IIABSDISEI but rain is forecast for sometime today and temps are warm for now and be lower tomorrow.  Go figure, it is Hoosier weather.  I did my walk to the YMCA and weights last night.  Sadly, I think I have seen the last of my Brazilian soccer student.  I did some Second Life, got trash gathered, put gas in the truck, and read some of the latest Trains magazine.  Beacon is lit.  I had the regular fare on the dining car for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning All

Yesterday afternoon took a drive over to the NS Buckeye Yard, looks like it is now just a storage yard for excess rolling stock. auto transports, steel coil cars, and grain cars as far as the eye can see. Looks like the downturn in the auto industry is taking its toll on the railroads. Use to be dozens of diesels hooking up to freights at the Buckeye Yard now only a couple switchers staging the surplus cars.

Applied power and DCS signal last night to the new logging spur. The MTH Interstate RS-3 cranked right up and responded to the commands with no hiccups. Will have to finish up the plaster cloth application for that part of the second level that now has the track work completed.

Have a great day

Buckeye-  My place is just south of Houghton Lake, MI

That's kinda like the south of the Northwoods.   I used to sell steel to a guy in West Branch thirty years ago.   Of course, we seem to make a trip to Frankenmuth every other year.

Things are starting to settle down from the move.  We ended up renting out our old house to our daycare provider, and besides spending the last 2 months fixing up our new house, I had to bring the old house back up to a rentable state.  They moved in over the weekend.  No more double mortgage payments and utilities!

The new house had an old cedar deck that was 19 years old, and many of the boards were rotten.  It is a 19x14 single level deck.  I removed all of the decking and railing, and am in the process of digging some post holes to extend it another 5 feet before I throw new deck boards down.  I really wanted cedar again, but it's 4x the cost of Lowes higher end pressure treated pine, so it looks like that is the way we are going.  PT just warps and curles so much more than cedar and doesn't seem to hold up as well.  Oh well, gotta stretch the dollar...

Wife says after the deck is done, I can finally start working on the trainroom.  i have been deciding just how much of that 15x11 room gets used for trains.  Maybe in a couple of weeks I can start building.

Have a good one!

Morning all.  Got an early morning case today and then, I have to have a conference call with a sales rep and some R&D folks.  Hope that doesn't take too long as I have a lot to get to.

Steve, that sounds like a good way to spend an afternoon.  I had the headphones on that have a radio in them while I was on the tractor yesterday.  Found a channel that had all the oldies and just enjoyed the quiet time.  Hope to get back to it this afternoon.

Trains are on my mind.  I really need to get back on the layout and finish it up.  The control panel is about done and we should have trains running all rails soon.  Then, have to finish landscape and scenery.  No more excuses, need action!  (can you tell I am trying to get motivated).  Perhaps I should just go watch Jon's video or Buckeye's photos and that'd to it.

Well, I have not heard if they found the plane that was missing.  Doesn't sound good though.  Prayers to be lifted for the families.
God Bless,

Dennis

 Morning to All,

Made a fresh pot of coffee, the one from last night was getting so thick you could stand a spoon up in it.  NOthing new on the train front.  Yesterday was just an awful day, had a meeting that ran for hours with parents that just want to complain that we don't do anything right.  Their glass is always half empty and we cannot seem to please them.  Finally got out of there at about 6:15 last night.  Today should be another crazy one.  Meetings all day and then a retirement get together at a local watering hole.  I may go for a while and have a frosty cold adult beverage with my dinner.  Tomorrow night I have a high school graduation to attend.  Nine more days and the craziness is over for a while, although summer brings it's own brand of insanity.

Take care,

Mitch

always be the Carson show as far as I'm concerned.

I agree.  I'm sorry but I don't think Conan is funny at all.  Maybe he will get a new lease on life on the tonight show.

Tardis is running late.  My wife was not feeling well today and son too complained of a tummy ache, so we suspect some foul pizza.  I had to stop at Radio Shack tonight for batteries for the cordless phone, but they don't have them in the store any more - only online?  Then, did the grocery store thing and finally, after a quick dinner, finished trimming the yard.  My son was supposed to do it, but then he decided to sit and eat some icecream that I just bought and ignore the trimming job until the grass went away?  Oh well, no $$$ for him.  OTOH, I did not get to run trains.  Tomorrow it is going to be raining in the evening and then all day Wednesday too.  So, maybe trains tomorrow night if there is no lightning.

8nTruck - check out The Train Tender for those springs?

Had a nice Chat with Wes tonight and then SJ as well, just missed RT due to the chores after eating dinner.

Okay - Tardis is ready and I see a few beacons are already lit, so here we go Smile

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

That will always be the Carson show as far as I'm concerned.       Good night all

Town Board over.  Will not go into all the details.  A lady who has been rude to me got shut down by the Board [not me].  Now she will be on the Board's case.  Had a subdivision's Home Owners Assoc president come and give a comment that they backed my action.  That made her mad again.  BTW: she is not a resident of the Town.  Popcorn time.  Good night all.

Jon, I know you are looking forward to your annual Road Trip!  My neighbor is a Harley fan and takes road trips all over.  He is retired and has a much younger wife.  They will disappear for a week at a time.  Said something today about Alaska.  Regarding your computer, Apple makes a great laptop and is probably the best for edit software, etc.  Big limitation is the available software is limited.

Well, I got the back few acres cut and will need to get the front ones done soon.  When I finished with my shower and got changed, the UPS delivery dropped of a package from B&H photo in NY.  They were closed for the Jewish holiday, but were to open on the 31st.  The package arrived today!  Now that is service.  Got a UV filter for the camera and a "cheat sheet", laminated instructions on all the functions, etc.  Also got a DVD on the D90.....a great instructional video for how to take photos, regardless of the make and model of camera.  While they do specify how to use the D90's controls, the instruction tells how to achieve desired affects with given functions.  I know we are probably not supposed to advertise, but for those seriously looking into photography, check out B&H photo, prices are good and they know their stuff.

OK, enough of that.  Was hot here today.  Supposed to be in the mid 90's again tomorrow.  Just hope the weather holds up so I can finish with the outside chores after my morning cases.  It is enough to keep a guy busy.  I see bed time is upon us here, so I will say good night.

God Bless,

Dennis

High 80's high humidity, wind from the south east, thunderstorms popping up in the north west.  Hope it stays dry for my wife's summer reading program on the library lawn Wednesday.

CNW1995 - 'helping GM'  I like that one.  You won't mind if I use it, will you?

MTH vs Lionel - I have a few pieces of MTH rolling stock, but  no locomotives.  I like the few pieces that have aquired.

1962 vintage Lionel trucks - does anybody know if knuckle springs are available?

Another nice day on the hill. Got up early so I could hike down to the old Mt. Graham Mill site before I came on shift. Not a whole lot left, but saw a couple boilers and an engine. Will have to go again when I remember to bring the cameraBanged Head

Ole Timer - I've stood next to 4294 several times and it is an impressive site. They seem a combination between a rocket ship and a steam locomotive, I just love it. Good ol' American ingenuity, when you need something, just build it. Can you show us a shot of a triple header some time?

Woke up to one of my old radio alarms hearing about GM. My grandfather went to the GM tech school in the 30's and great-grandfather was a boilermaker for the plant (the best of both worlds - GM steam engines). I've driven and owned just about everything and I think all makes have their good ones and bad ones, but I have a soft spot for GM. I also own one of the most unusual vehicles made by GM - a Covair FC. Oh, and the oldest vehicle which still makes the run up the mountain from Tucson - '92 Blazer.

Got a lot of good input on the swicher. Thanks again to those responded. I'll probably opt for a new 0-4-0 when the funds permit. I after the hike I think I need to invest in a new pair of hiking boots first. After so many years of wearing decent work boots, my feet no longer tolerate jungle boots. It will be an interesting quandry if I see an 0-4-0 at the show this weekendBig Smile

Banks - glad to hear your niece is doing better. Your family is in my thoughts and prayers.

Wish me luck, I'm putting together the readings for the service on Thursday. Hope I don't get excommunicated.

Hope everyone has a good week!

Bob

Submmbob .... I acquired a fascination for those Williams Cab Forwards ... bought 3 of them so far . Have to change the numbers on 2 of them on the Southern Pacific line . 1 will be easy ... only 1 number to change on the second .... not the other .... # 3 .... will have to change about all of them .  Thinking of completely weathering one also .

Hi Chuck .... got my thrill on the hills ... we went to the mountains for a few days ... deep in West Virginia ... I have to admit that song ... Almost Heaven ... surely is true ... so beautiful and clean ! Great mountain folk and fantastic food .

Hope to catch the Tardis tonight  .... was'nt one way up there .  Glad I took the GPS ... unplanned route as deep as we could get in ... just kept going . Then stopped to eat and spend the night .... have'nt done that for years .... but the wife and I decided to do it alot more .

I'm back from the north.  Saw some hens and small Jake, nothing I care to shoot at.

Turkeys walking around in the fields at up the road from lake house.

Now have 5-6 different bears working the property.  Had my trusty .44 on my hip all weekend.  Send them to LAZ.

I also had to deal with a pesky beaver that keeps blocking up a culvert.  So far I am winning :) HMR .17 works great on them.

Charlie, you still got away.  That is the good thing.

SP, got both systems [well, DCS and Legacy with old TMCC control base and two CAB1's].  They work great.

PS: now hear this!!!  I ordered a new MTH NS diesel from new catalog

Hi Chief, glad you finally stepped up to a good train.  Just kidding.  I hope it works well for you.  If it does you will be happy you got it.  I have nothing but MTH and I'm a fan. I do have two Lionel TMCC engines but I have no Lionel system to run them except in conventional.  Do you have DCS controls or just TMCC or both?  I'm still kicking myself for not buying an MTH Southern E8 A-B-A that sold recently on the OGR buy/sell section.  They are hard to find.  Made in 2002.  Have a good week,
