Ole timer - Sorry for your loss.  Prayers to all those who are sick.

Long day yesterday traveling from G'burg to DC to pick up son and then to Morgantown for niece's graduation from WVU.  Too much driving. My brother took son back to DC thought he would be able to drop him at Metro but it closes 11:30 PM on Sunday so he had to drive the whole way, it added another 1.5 hours to his trip. I feel awful, I owe my brother Big Time. As it was I didn't get home until almost 11:00.

Well got to get to work.

Take care,

Mitch

Thanks all for the hearty welcome. Ol Timer I am very sorry for your loss. You are in my thoughts and prayers.

Well tonight was a pretty good night here at the Mt. Graham Boiler Shop. I work at a radio telescope (hence the submm) and tinker w/ the trains in my spare time. Had some excitement w/ the cooling system on the receiver today. Compressor croaked and when the spare was fired up it blew the needle out of the orifice. Still fairly cold but not as sensitive. We pull it apart Monday.

Anywa,y I finished assembly of the RW-110 and set up some straight track on the bench and ran the 2026 and 2224W back and forth a bit. The engine is now fairly quiet w/ the wheels shimmed correctly and the Lucas Red and Tacky on the gears. She runs, she smokes, and the whistle blows (note to self: going to need track bumpers before I do more of this). If I can finish cleaning the curved track I may be able to set up an oval. I am desparately in need of some O-27 track pliers though. I went to the local HobbyTown USA in Tucson and they have very minimal train inventory left. Ever since AZ Trains shut down, I guess things have been fairly quiet in that realm here in the Ol' Pueblo. Oh well, I'll get a set from Olsen's on the next parts order.

Incidently, the engine runs way smoother w/ the RW than w/ the inexpensive plastic trans that I bought for the tinplate set in the early 90's. I can only imagine what a ZW is like.  For everyone who provided advice and inspiration to get to this point I am forever grateful.

Bob

Boy, that will teach me!  I was using the MTH "All Engines" Command, and pushed the start-up button.  Sure wasn't expecting that kind of reaction !

It apparently was centered in Inglewood, (adjacent to the LA airport), and 5.0.  I would definetly rate it as a 2 or 3 in terms of the most violent that I have experienced since I have been here (50 years).  Water was NOT splashing out of the pool this time, no visable chimney damage, no gas smells, no broken windows/glass anywhere.  Will be sleeping lite tonight, certainly will be some aftershocks.

Hope everything OK at Ray's place!

Don & Ray,

Hope no problems in your areas. The preliminary report was a magnitude 5, but we felt it pretty strong down here. The San Andreas is alive and well.

Good Evening

Wes sorry to read of your loss, prayers for you ole buddy.

I had a busy day, talked with Brutus on the phone this morning. then went to Charlies and played with trains for several hours, His son kept me busy with chatter as the trains did run. No pileups. Arrived home in time to round up my two boys and we pushed the boat from patio to front driveway. A full day for an old guy.   Banilla is waiting for the Thingy though...S.J.

If you are looking for a GPS unit for your boat, one feature I like with my old GPS are the "bread crumbs" that it leaves on the screen as I travel along.  I have used those bread crumbs to navigate later through thick fog to find my way home. River fog along with the curves and rocks in a river make for tricky navigation.

Ole Timer - My sincere regards to your aunt.  GPS/Charting ($$$) is on my shopping list, but I'm one for studying paper charts first.

SPMan - Gonna be sailing the Chesapeake only.  HUNTER 27 sits with a bit of a whale belly below the water line, but still only 4 1/2 feet draft.  Good sturdy sailer, just not for "big" water.

The company is all gone, way to quiet here without the princess but man---am I tired, wow.  VERY HAPPY that the school year is over, I need to make some serious decisions about how busy I want to be next year, it's been a balancing act to say the least.

What a great welcome event for the IANG yesterday, if you ever need your heart lifted go to a welcome home for our military folks.  I remember sending those troops off one year ago, that will get to you but like someone said to me while I was standing in a flag line--"that year went fast", not so sure it did for the families.  The beautiful thing though is that everyone of them came home safely.

No more commitments for me until first week of October except for a retirement party for my BIL and planning a November wedding for #2 son.  I think my only contribution on that wedding will be to show up with the checkbook, stay out of the way and keep my opinions to myself  Smile  He's a great kid and 30, this will be easy, they are both very level headed.  There will be one major happening in Sept., things are looking better by the day, thanks for the calls Chief Thumbs Up

Its been a rainy day here in GA.  Spent most of the day working on customizing a 2-8-0 tender and caboose for a client.  He's a SAL and Gainsville Midland fan, I'm doing the engine/tender and caboose to GM.  The caboose was a dog, he didn't like the Lionel marker lights and wanted Tomar's, Lionel's were LED w/ a flashing circuit, royal pain changing the wiring, also cabin bulbs too bright.  Painted those with yellow ceramic paint to be more like kerosene lanterns.  Finished the tender, besides the name he wanted the coal hopper sides higher.  I'll be starting the engine later this week, masking to avoid a total strip is time consuming.  Doesn't leave me any time for my own trains.

Home again.  Not for too long though.  Got meetings until Wed. everning.  Then off to the lake again.  Pam has reacted to some meds and was one big whelp for days.  Dr. gave her more meds to stop the itching and swelling.  She still has a "mild dose" of it.

Sign - Welcome Bob.  Glad to see new folks drop in.  As Buckeye says, been going for sometime now.  I use to fly to Bass Pro Shops and Cabela's across the country.  Visited a many a member [some not posting anymore] while in or around their location.  Lots of great folks on here.  We do joke about the Civil War, Yankees, Rebs, grits and sweet ice tea [along with other things].  We have built some great relationships here.

Pat, I found that yellow jackets [some call them ground bees] can out run a tractor too.  Was disking some woodland clearing for wildlife food plots.  Disked over a nest!!!!

Think I will upstairs and run some trains.  Been raining here and temps dropped from high 60's this AM to middle 50's.  BTW: cooked my first squash, zucchini and onions Thursday night at the lake house.  Pam ran up for a quick flower planting and I carried the veggies from the garden with me.  Had them ready when she got there.  Just cut a big batch this afternoon when I inspected the garden.   Will cook them later.  Cucumbers and tomatoes are full of blooms.  Got little tomatoes but have not turned yet [started in big pots in greenhouse in Feb].

Have a great week.  God bless all.

OLE TIMER,

Sorry for your loss.  Prayers for your family.

About the trout, all are catch and release.  I like catching them more then eating them.  If they were perch or walleyes, then we'd be having them on the grill.  They are the best eating fish.

Fife, after reading all this nautical talk about your boat, I had to finally go back and look up the original post and pictures.  I must have missed it first time around.  It looks like a fun thing to have and I wish you a safe and happy voyage with it.  You be very careful with those children.  Are you sailing on the great lakes or the ocean or where?  Not to imply that this is a problem for you but remember that alcohol and salt water don't mix if any of your guest get that idea.  My brother is an old salt fisherman on the Chesapeake Bay with several decades of exerience on the water and even he came close to losing a son who went overboard after a dropped rod and reel.  Luckily it all turned out well.  Only damage was a water damaged cell phone my nephew was wearing.  Moral of the story was that none of this would have happened had he been wearing a life preserver.  Good luck,

Ray

As by some of the posts and a special I saw the other day ... this new strain of flu seems to hit more and be more agressive towards women for some reason ... they don't know why as of yet ... of course that's what tv said ... I'm no expert .

Don ... great idea on that Coast Guard course .... also Fifey ... every boat I got I went over every inch of wiring ... cleaned and waterproofed every connection with silicone . Salt mist plays the devil with metal ... any bare areas I covered and sealed .... worth it in the long run . Also do you have a flare gun or a GPS with nautical ?

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a sunny, cool day. 55 degrees. Going up to 62 today with sunshine all day.

It has been a busy week. Wife has been sick and is slowly getting better. Looks like a flu, again. I'm taking it easy today.

Yes, #14 won the Nascar race. Good for Tony.

I love sitting on your back deck, Buckeye, watching the Garden Railroad.

Dining car was here and we had the usual for breakfast.

Y'all have a great Sunday

 Good Morning !

submmbob - Welcome to the pot, we need fresh brew around here, its enjoyable, stop in frequently!  Sign - Welcome

fife - Looking forward to these great nautical stories that will be coming soon!  I'm sure don't need to remind you "Be Careful Out There!".  Have you taken or consider taking the Coast Guard small boat owners course? I'm envious!

Dennis, Hope she gets to feeling better soon.

Neighbor update!  House on the east has been very quiet, (dancers place).  House to the west, had some domestic problems, the wife moved out! (#2).  The guy in their now has this 2 1/2 story place by himself.  Strange place I live.

Brother and SIL came down Fri., to finalize and clear out her Mom's last remaining effects.  We ended up upgrading a couple of TV's, and I got a storage cabinet for train room.  Then working this weekend, actually did two shows yesterday.  One was only in the morning, the other was all day.  Going to be working all day today as well.  Also, have a remote radio spot scheduled for this afternoon.  (That will be good for business.)

Hope everyone has a great day, and will check in tonight.

Morning everyone!  I know, unusual  for me to be posting on Sunday morning as at this time, I should be in Church.  Bride worked last night, but both kids are sick and so I had to stay home so SWMBO could get some sleep.  Sure do miss the service though.  It is like trying to head into the big game without having had nourishment.  I know I will be a bit less empty throughout the week ahead.  May try to pick it up on TV later.

Got a great deal yesterday.  Not on trains, but on flatware.  We never had the complete set from when we got married.  Each setting was $95.00.  Well, Dillards is discontinuing this particular setting, so I got 7 more settings to make 12, plus, the "Host set".  Each setting was $15, and the host set was $18.  Saved about $600.00.  I know you guys won't be impressed, but your wives probably would be.

Since I am home, I most likely will get some much needed layout work done.  Just have to keep the kids quiet for a few more hours.  I am on call this coming week, so we never know what my days will be like.  Have to take advantage of the time we have.

Fife, I know some of the older black ladies around these parts say the best thing to prevent sea sickness is green apples.  I have not tried it yet, but as with many of their tales, usually some element of truth to it.  For a few bucks, you should have plenty for the family to test the idea.  Besides, ya gotta eat anyway.  Amazing some of the life lessons you can take in from the older generations if you just take the  time to listen to them.

Hope everyone has a blessed day.

Dennis

Mornin' boys.  Mornin' English.  Wet and 63 here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  Enjoyed the afternoon at the dock swabbing the decks and eating snowballs.  Then enjoyed seeing the 14 in victory lane last night.

Ole Timer - rt - kpolak - All good suggestions, thanks.

Phish - laz - Thanks! Pirate

Good Morning

Suns out, but chilly.

I am waiting to go play trains with Charlie early this afternoon. He has two  new scale steam engines I have not played with yet. Got my TMCC remote ready to go. I had not read the forum post about improvements since page one so after reading above I peeked. Just as I always suspected the comments came from people who do not particapate here. Isn't that always the way.

Enjoy your Sunday...S.J.

HI GYZ,

WOW lots to be caught up on.

Went trout fishing last nite and got chased by huge thunderstorm.  Got drenched but felt good because of the warm muggy afternoon.  Me and BRO stood on the banks of the creek while enjoying a Ol MIL, getting sopping wet.  Turned creek muddy, so went home had a fire and cooked up dogs and burgers.  Oh yeah, BRO caught one trout about 5 inches and that was it for us.  Musta been the ensueing storm that turned the fish off?

DOUG,Happy B-Day to you!  Hope you got something with flanges?

FIFE,Piratenice boat.

BUCKEYE, TGIF, forgot to tell you.Dunce

JELECTRIC, glad your back in PA.  Had a nice trip.

Stay frosty,
