Evening gang.  Wifey doing better for now.  Tired but need to call Shake and Bake and see if he is still wiggling.  Shock  Got to hit the sack tonight.  Got grass to mow and haircut to get with a 2 PM meeting and then 7 PM Town Board.  Guess I might spray the garden, roses, grapevines and fruit trees.  Everytime I do, rains within 24 hours.  Later.

PS: "Truck", glad you had a good vacation.

Good Evening all

All is quiet, kids in bed, kitchen cleaned up and a quick surf then evening prayer and bed.  During evening prayers I offer the prayers for those we know and love and are in need.

I had a productive ebay adventure (sorry Doug) A 25515 Rocket car and a 716 in need of a refurb.  The rocket car is fun.  I will get some pics when it comes.  The rocket has a pilot with an ejection sheet.  The 716 is a dumping gondola from 1946 with the center pickup.  It is rough but works, not bad fo 99 cents.  It will go into the project box

Good night and may God bless

Jim

Back from vacation.  Gone 5 days and had to wade through 10 pages of posts to catch up.

Old Timer - sorry for your loss.  It is never easy.

Submmbob - Welcome.

Fife - The boat looks great.  I used to get out on Lake Michigan on a co-worker's 26' sailboat from time to time.  Did not get seasick, as long as I kept the horizion as my frame of reference.  Inside the boat, I lasted maybe 10 minutes.  You might look for a book entitled Making Port.  It is about a couple who sailed around the world.

Brutus - sounds like your wife is improving.  Hope the biopsy results help pin down the source.  I know what you mean about the storms Friday night.  I was driving through St Louis about the time you posted.

Not much train stuff to report, other than my rocket fuel train car got here last week.  It looks like the 1962 version, as both couplers are operational.

Worked on the house this weekend, mowed the hay, er, lawn, saw Star Trek with my wife.

Got back to work this morning to discover that the company had filed Chapter 11 bankruptsy last week.  Anybody remember my crack about "assuming that work will still be there when I get back from vacation" in my last post?  Work is still there, but that call was too close for comfort!

The Buick GS meet was about what I expected.  The old big block GS cars were running 10 to 14 second 1/4 mile times, depending on class, the turbo V6 cars were running 7 to 14 second times, again depending on class.  One of the turbo cars running in the high 8 seconds, got crossed up at about the 60 foot mark, did the watusi trying to gather it back up until he hit the wall at the 1/8 mile mark and ended up rolling 2 1/2 times.  Fortunately the driver walked away with cuts and bruses.

The skys opened up while the rollover was being cleaned up.  Saturday weather forcast was for more rain, so I headed home late Friday.

Good Evening

Sun all day but we are stuck in the 60s. Warmer later this week. The meds have me lightheaded and woozy. Cough med. has codine in it. So I couched this afternoon. Banilla is ready for the Tardis but I better not drive. No scratch that this would be perfect, what a ride.   S.J.

Dennis--

The D90 is an amazing camera, if you do get it you'll have a hard time putting it down.  Be sure to get an extra lens or two and without question the Speedlight SB-800.  I have recently been using it a lot for fill in flash everywhere in bright situations.  I do not use it at all for SPF, just my best friend, Mr. Tripod Thumbs Up

Jon, I did go for it.  It should ship tomorrow and I guess I'll have it by the end of the week.  I have quite the assortment of Nikon lenses.  Everything from a 200mm F2.8 lense upto a 1200mm lense.  I hope I can still get some good results with those, but we shall see.  The package comes with the d18-105mm lense.  I may get another "d"lense out to perhaps 300mm.  Will see.  I also want to get a good macro lense, but don't want to get ahead of myself.  As for the speedlight, I agree.  I have some other lights, but I hear great things about the SB one.  I am also thinking about a slave for different effects.

I may have to check back with you on some specifics, but I am really looking forward to getting this.

Thanks<

Wes "Ole Timer" - sorry for your loss man.  I wasn't on the computer very late last night, so didn't get to post until now Sad

SJ - so glad you went to the doctor!

Prayers for all of use and our loved ones who need them.

RT - that's a great story!  What a deal!  I like it when they have stories like that on Antiques Road Show.

Doug - cool pic Smile

Took down my John Bull and a circle of track with my prewar torpedo and cars that the kids kept knocking over.  Not very safe on a little cardtable in the livingroom.  Need to get that basement done......  Had some tacos for dinner including a "volcano" taco - hope it doesn't have afterburners! Laugh

Well, dinner is done and have some work to do around the house for a little bit, so TTFN!  I'll be back (Arnold voice)!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

RT ... I won't even tell you about the box of brass engines I missed at a yard sale because I would'nt go with my wife that day .... she came home and told me about these old ugly gold colored engines ... they did'nt even have any paint on them ... said I probably would'nt want them anyway .... they have black spots on them ... blew in there like a wild man ... lady said   " oh some man bought them all  " ... Banged Head .... wife said all don't feel too bad i bought you a lionel clock .... a clock !!!! Confused .... a dumb clock ... LOL . No ... DUMB ME ! Brass engines ... oh well ... that was way over a year ago ... still not over it and have'nt found anything like it since . So don't feel too bad .

Ole timer the best deal I would say I got and didn't really know it at the time was a freind came up to me and said he bought this train set at the thrift shop for $25.00 If I wanted it I could have it for $35.00 or he would put it on ebay and see how it went. It was a HO set by lionel in original box. I did notice a couple of kinda good cars in O so went for it. Kept it for a while but needed money so did some reserching and found out it was a uncataloged dealers set probally from FL area as it had the space capsale car ( with original space capsals with it ( remember this is the HO not O ) it also had exploding box car and missile firing car and a 0-4-0 steam engine. It also had original transformer and track. well to make a long story short I ended up selling it for $600.00 that was about 4 years ago.

Buckeye - I'll have to check out that "breadcrumbs" feature...Confused Won't the gulls get to 'em? Dunce

Its called tracks.  Now how do you lay down track in water?  As Buckeye says [I hate to agree with him], it is a great feature in a "foreign" body of water, in fog or no moon light.  Stay on those tracks, you will not hit anything [unless you did before] and it will take you right back home.

Obviously, the pigs are airborne.

Fife......When I used to ply the water of Lake Chautauqua after dark, I was required to find specific red-green channel markers then head 10 degrees to follow a narrow shallow channel to the dock.   During the light of the day when I left the dock, the GPS would "track" my route and as I navigated between the red-green channel markers I would push a button to mark my location.  In the dark, those markers and "bread crumbs" were my guide back to the channel and the dock.  Even with a spotlight it is easy not to find the markers.  The GPS puts you right back into the correct spot even when you can't see.  I also could have asked for a specific heading to the channel markers from far out on the lake in the dark.  People think at night they can navigate by the lights on the shore.  It is very difficult when you are a mile or more from shore. All the lights look the same.

Even with the GPS when we were on the water in Canada, I have two compasses on board.

Took Mrs. Pam to two Dr's.  Both said wait it out.  Now she seems better.  She was a frightful kid this AM and felt sick and dizzy too.  Skipped County Commissioners and took her.  Bought her lunch before seeing the last Dr.  Then we went shopping after all of that and I paid.  Probably why she feels better.  Whistling  Funny thing is, my eyes feel scratchy and etc.  Oh well.  Off to Town Hall and Mayor's Association [free steak].  She is outside messing in flowers [good for allergies].  Later.

Good Afternoon Y'all!
Well, I missed the news about the shakin in CA.  Hope everyone is doing well out there.  We have had rain on and off since Saturday.  Temps dropped and are supposedly going to be in the 40s tonight.

Fife, good idea to learn the charts.  If for any reason the electronics go out, you still need to find your way home.

Chief, hope Miss Pam gets to feeling better.  Lia has been having some reaction that we are trying to pin down.  Both kids have been on the mend the last few days.

Looking at buying  a new DSLR.  I may get one from American Express as I have enough points to get one for free.  This is the D90 and you can't complain about the price.  Figure this would be a good time as SWMBO will like the fact of having if for the cruise......and of course, I need to do a little familiarizing on SPF!

Hope everyone's week is blessed.

Don and Doug, I did'nt feel anything here but I may have been sitting on the top of a ferris wheel at our local chuch festival when it hit. The seat we were riding in sort of rocked a little bit when we stopped at the top of the circle but I don't know if that was normal or from the quake.  Did not hear any comments form anyone else at the festival so they probably did'nt feel it.  Hope all is well with you guys today.

Ray

Ole Timer, A little slow on my part but my deepest condolences on your loss.

Ray, I thought it was going to have been a larger magnitude quake than it was in reality. We felt it pretty strong down here, off hand it was maybe about third on the list only surpassed by Northridge and Joshua Tree quakes.

Fife, My only question is how many cup holders and how big is the bait tank.

Good Afternoon

Sunny and a little warmer today. I spent most of the morning at the doc's office and spent $104 at the drug store. And thats with insurance. Its no wonder people are force to stop taking their medicine. His verdict, bronchitis. I have not made plans beyond that point today. Have a great Monday...S.J.

Thirty five years ago the boss and I and two other couples did a canoe trip into the Boundry Waters in norhern MN.  We left the lodge that first morning in dense fog and could barely see the shore line that we needed to follow, one of the guys had done that trip previously so he knew what to do.  When the fog finally lifted we looked around and there were about 3-5 other canoes around us, so much for being in the wilderness!  Actually, by the time we ended up where we wanted to be that first night -- there was no sign of any other people, great trip!  Would love to go back and do it again but stay in lodges at night Laugh  No such thing as a GPS in those days, would have come in very handy the third day out, everyone was convinced we needed to go a certain direction except my wife -- she convinced us she was right -- sadly, she was Bow

Boy, that will teach me!  I was using the MTH "All Engines" Command, and pushed the start-up button.  Sure wasn't expecting that kind of reaction !  Look what happened:

It apparently was centered in Inglewood, (adjacent to the LA airport), and 5.0.  I would definetly rate it as a 2 or 3 in terms of the most violent that I have experienced since I have been here (50 years).  Water was NOT splashing out of the pool this time, no visable chimney damage, no gas smells, no broken windows/glass anywhere.  Will be sleeping lite tonight, certainly will be some aftershocks.

Hope everything OK at Ray's place!

(I would have posted sooner, but we were too busy shaking, lasted a long time)

Well, seems everything is normal for Shake and Bake.  Whole place is shaking and ground cracking while the burning to a crisp.

Morning.  Wifey has another reaction.  In bed now with hives and swelling.  Asked her if she was allergic to squash????  She had this stuff starting before we cooked the first squash.  Cloudy and damp.  Cooler than usual.  Got meetings this afternoon and night [free steak].  Grass needs cutting.  Sometime while I was gone, somone ran into one of the trees out by the street.  Pam was sudated and did not hear it.  Glass and car parts all over the place.  Police did not know about it again [happened a year ago].  If not for the tree, would have gotten mailbox and powerpole.

Ole Timer, sorry for your loss.

Fifey, no worry.  I will grits yuz giz and give the Yanks a hard time forever.  My answer, Identical TWINS. Laugh  As for GPS, I would get Lowrance and add the Naviotics Chip.  A color GPS really makes it nice to see details.

Jon, the little Princess can keep you going big time.  I heard her in the background when I called the other night.  Old man like you should not be out that late. Whistling

Mike C., I can be up at the lake and not get by the country store [DJ's wireless] for one day and miss a book in posts.  Good thing it is summer.  Posting slowes but, if winter, would be a novel to read.

All have a great week.  God bless all.

Good morning all,

IIABSDISEI with temps chilly now but warming to the 60s.  Miss a day, miss a lot here.  Three pages of posts since the last one I made on Saturday.  I had some errands to do Saturday night, and I visited some one who was interested in selling her late husband's collection.  It was mostly HO.  Sunday went to Mass, watched some Indy activity with my dad, swept the house, did weights and a little soccer at the YMCA, listened to the last hour of Indy time trials, which was very exciting, did dishes, did some Second Life, got ready for work and watched "Desperate Housewives".  Yesterday I had pancakes and sausage on the dining car, and the regular fare this morning.  Beacon is lit for tonight.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana
