RT, probably not your computer.  Time for weekend OOPS and the @#^* software.

YIPES!!!!! Twin tornados on the ground about 30 minutes ago.  Don in Cumberland Co./ Fayetteville [Ft. Bragg] area.  Moved up I 95.  South bound I 95 at standstill.  SHP says 18 wheeler overturned and blocking all lanes.  Trees across the interstate and lots of wreck.  They were about 20 miles apart moving northeast which took one right up I 95.  Seems to have calmed down now.

Buckeye--I had a nice breakfast already for you this morning, eggs benedict and mamosas!  Sorry you weren't here to enjoy them Sad   I did cancel the trip west, not much fun going alone to snow and high winds, next time Cool

Fife--hope you have some good luck looking at sail boats this weekend, what a wonderful journey you are about to begin.  I am big time jealous Thumbs Up  Think of me tomorrow as I'm listening and adjucticating 70+ high school brass and percussion solos!  I really do enjoy it or I wouldn't do it (plus they pay me very well), the best part of the day will be when I'm done and coming home through some of the most gorgeous rolling hills in southern Iowa on two lane roads with very light traffic listening to Garrison Keeler on Prairie Home Companion---the stress just melts away.

Good afternoon,

Had a nice chat with Don B. earlier, we solved most of the worlds problems.  He thinks I need to try the programable feature on DCS, will give it a try.

Nice day here, Sunny and in the sixties.  More rain, which we need, predicted for tomorrow.  Guess the folks out in Fargo would like to send us some moisture.

Have a great weekend.

Gilbert started their HO line in ’39. Of course that got interupted by the war. After the war they let it slide to concentrate on S guage. When they did start it was sacrificed for the Korean War restrictions. I ’55 they started in earnest on HO. Much of the early rolling stock was built by Varney and the only way to tell the difference is the car #’s. Due to the hit all trains took production ceased sometime in ‘63

Unfortunately most of my stuff is in boxes. This winter I did get the 4 x 8  I built in high school uncovered enough to get trains running again. The first thing my Grand kids want is to go run trains. After ten or fifteen minutes they’re ready to move on. If they stay long enough they can’t leave with out another session.

They both like the battery operated Thomas and have a constantly changing floor layout.

I recently ordered an HO Thomas with two coaches. I’m hoping to surprise them with it on Easter when they come for dinner.

They should love it..

I can't find the smiley wings but prayers to all who need them.

Chief - Wifey already has one dinghy.  She's requestin' something 30-40' that can sleep 6-7.  But thanks just the same.

Fife,  You'll appreciate this.  One of my customers was in last week and told me he and a friend just purchased a boat.  They have it moored in Santa Monica Marina.  No of course the city owns the dock and all the slips, so they lease the slip from the city.  The federal government owns the water in the marina, and since Santa Monica is in LA county, the county deems they own the ground UNDER the slip.  So they have received a property tax bill for the land under the boat in the slip !!!!  (Another new tax), also the annual tax on the boat is based upon the square footage, not the value.  So if the boat has more than one deck the tax is proportional.

Frustrating news!  I'm going to need to add another show to our schedule, however the bad news is I need to get a HAM License, UGH !!!  Did the pretest for a Technician Level, (entry level), did fine with the electronic portion, but I've got to memorize all those darn frequencies, and band widths.  No fun !!!!

Good News !!!  I decided to play with the DCS Session recording capability.  Boy is that ever cool !!!  After having DCS for over 2 years and just getting around to it.  I have programed various switches, so could just select one button and a variety would change.  That was good !  But the Session Programming is wild.

I set up a 3 car train on a siding, and another 4 cars on a different siding.  Then brought the first train out, turned on some accessories, ran the train through a reversing loop.  Dropped the cars off on a parallel siding, then picked up the other cars on other siding.  Cleared the main line, then brought out another engine from the Engine Yard to pick up the first cars dropped off.  Took the first train back to through the reversing loop, and parked it in its original position.  Then with the 2nd engine took the cars around and dropped them off where the first cars had originally been parked.  Then took the 2nd engine back to the Engine Yard and parked it.  During this time I had various accessories operating, and sounds from the engines.  Finished the recording and saved it all as 1 session.  Played it back and it was AWESOME !!  Now the other capability is, IF you return the engines to their starting locations, you can not only play that session back, but ALSO put it in a LOOP mode, which will repeat the operation over and over.  COOL, EH ??   Love IT !!!  The length of a single session can be a maximum of 90 minutes in duration, or 500 commands.  I have no idea how many sessions you can record.

(I have my switches and accessories connected to the DCS AIU, and the switches in wired in parallel to the control panel, next will try with TMCC in the Session.  IF that works then Legacy.)

Later

Don,

Sounds like you've been pretty busy!  I can empathize with you regarding that HAM License,  doesn't sound like anything I would like to do either.  All that memorization can really be a pain.

On the brighter side, sounds like you had a good time with the programming thing on the DCS.  How many sequences did you have to generate?  And how many attempts did it take you?   I don't know if you can integrate TMCC or Legacy into that process, make sure you let us know if it works.  I've heard that it is extremely critical that you have the engines in the exact starting spots when you run the replay, so take caution with that.  That is really interesting that you can take accessories made in the fifties and operate them automatically, I imagine it looks like the train is activating the item as it passes by.  Keep up the good work, you need to make a video and post.  BTW, how long does that sequence run?   Oh yeah, that was pretty ingenious on your part to develop a sequence that repeats it self by alternating where cars are picked up and then dropped off.  So that a continuous loop can be run.  GOOD JOB !!!  YOUR'RE THE GURU !!!

Good Morning

Welcome Krump, I doubt if you will learn much from these guys, but we have a  good time pretending that we know something.

Sun and 50s but  sunday sounds like a nasty day. Rain starting tomorrow nite.

Charlie and his family came over yesterday evening and we had a good time running trains. No pileups but a couple  of boo boo's. TGIF...S.J.

Morning all. Cold here in Chicago. Should be a quiet day - just about no-one was on my train this am - hope it's because of Spring break and not the economy worsening... Supposed to get snow tonight. Jon, prayers for your kin in Fargo. Welcome Krumps and Banks. I like browsing websites showing Marklin accessories. Banks, I didn't know Gilbert made HO. I like that forum summary...

Good Morning,

Another warm day in sunny south Florida, should get up to 78 today, with a chance of rain.

Went to Lantana on tuesday and bought an MTH Amtrac engine(model PF-40, cab # 452) with PS-2, looks good with my Atlas Amtrac passenger cars. Works great, but had a little problem with adding it to my DCS handheld unit, had to add it three times. First time the DCS unit said it can't locate the engine, second time it added it to my other engine and both engines started at the same time. Deleted it and added it again this time with only the Amtrac engine on the track, worked better but still started up both engines at one time after putting my oldeer engine back on the track. Had to delete both engines and add each one in separetly and one at a time on the track and that solved the problem.

Working on my other train layout the H.O. one and it is rather tuff to add switches where you want them with very little room on the layout table. Now I see why people come back to O gauge trains

The R.V. sprung a leak at the water pump last week then two days later I noticed the hot water tank leaking. $100.00 for the pump & filter, $600.00 to replace the hot water tank. That thing is eating me up financially, so I will try to sell it in early November. Not sure how the financial market will be then but hopefully better. Did the water pump already but waiting on the water heater tank to come in, had to be ordered.

Would have been on here sooner this wek but I had my share of alligator problems to fight.Black EyeSigh

Thanks for the summary of characters 88 . That was great.

I see Krump is into Marklin. Does any body here have any interest in HO? My main interest is HO made by Gilbert 1955-1963

My Avatar is the cover of the Gilbert HO catalog from 1955. The year I was born

Good morning all,

It is cloudy but mild in SE Indiana with temps in the 50s.  Back to work and already got one task done, which is more than I expected to get done today.  Krump, welcome to the pot.  It has a bunch of friendly (if slightly unusual)people gathered here.  Basically took it easy yesterday, but did get one item resolved favorably with the IRS as far as Lucas' taxes were concerned.  Been watching old Buffy DVDs.  I had the regular fare on the dining car this morning for breakfast.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

krump

okay, so I need a mocha or some specialty jolt.   greetings all - I'm new to this forum, but not to coffee (I hope it's strong).

collector of MARKLIN trains, particularly the glass tank car varieties, and the wine barrel rail cars  - both very unique

I think I may also look to a G scale point to point railroad in the near future.  some train puzzles occupy the evenings also.

so grab a coffee eh?  can I hang out and learn more about collecting ?

Krump Sign - Welcome

A few warnings:
1. DO NOT under ANY circumstance, pull Fife's finger... no matter how much he begs!
2. Chief and Buckeye ARE NOT related - even though they do act like it
3. Don't correct anyone's spelling... this is a typo friendly space
4. In order to get to the comfy stools, you have to get here early... and stay late
5. In the evenings, about 10pm EST, The Pot becomes The Tardis - we've been to some pretty strange and interesting places, Brutus is our designated driver, but sometimes he gets a funny and decides to let someone else take the helm - when Jack drives we typically get in a lot of trouble!
6. Patrick is a farmer - Gotta watch these guys... the come fully equiped with cow patties for chuckin'
7. Chuck likes blueberries - enough said
8. Don B - Is from Southern California - the Sun and lack of rain has been known to make him do silly things - like dance in the street in a green thong (Chief has photographic evidence)
9. anjdevil is from NJ but lives in FL - works on cars for a living but drives a motorcycle (he's a bit confused)
10. Jon - is our resident Iowan...
11. Doug - He's our Deen (the brains of this operation)
12. Roy - He's our 'big burly' Texan - don't mess with him or he sends the home remodelling gremlins your way and your 1 month project turns into a major home remodelling that more resembles New Construction
13. Laz - drink Ol' Mils and has a bear... the bear is the nicer companion Wink
14. Ole Timer - another resident Marylander... he is from the 'slower paced' area so he has more patience to deal with us
15. Dennis - he's our Dr. tries to heal our ailments but sometimes we get a head of him and have to see someone else... see Chief for reference - he likes to visit his dermatologist, something about her being female I think? Whistling
16. Mitch - he's the Principal - if you act up in class he'll give you Saturday detention or revoke your York priviledges for the next show
17. Dougisagrump - Isn't really a grump - he just lives in CA (north of Don) and has a hidden desire to move to ND so he can experience snow
18. Wes - been a little quite lately - we think he is moving into a new house, but this has not been officially confirmed
19. Kurt, SirJames, and MitchRR - Michiganders... we tollerate them for 9 months out of the year and ignore them the other 3 (college football season - like the rest of the nation), but for the 9 months we listen to them, they do provide some good chat
20. Sturgeon - Our host for SPF (Sunday Photo Fun)
21. DJSpanky - doesn't drop by the Pot too much lately, but is fun to have around
22. RT - another forum prankster - tries to keep help Chief keep Buckeye in line - but for some reason they never were able to teach Buckeye NOT to carry puppies upsidedown!

Think that about does it... If you can remember all of this... please remind us every few months! Smile

Sign - Welcome  to the Forum and to the Coffee Pot.  With your number of posts It looks like you have been a member here for a while, so you know enough to look around through all the threads.  There is a lot of good information here about trains, even some about collecting.

I for one know very little about Marklin, so I hope you will be willing to share your experience, and pictures.

Tough situation for a niece & nephew in Fargo, ND--the dike around their neighborhood is at 43'--newest forecast calls a crest of 45' this weekend.  They have shipped the kids & one vehicle up to Grandpa & Grandpas yesterday and emptied their basement, they want to stay but will leave when the evacuation horn goes off.  This has never happened in their neighborhood.

ChiefEagles

Was raining like a cow peeing on a flat rock.

This is why I love Southerners - and why the North would never let them leave the Union - their sayings are just too dang funny!

Brutus - I think everyone pretty much knows she changed jobs, but I'm not sure. She's been incredibly busy with the new job, and the old job has her come back 1 day per week to help out. Not sure she can afford that 1 day with how much needs to be done at the new job, but hopefully she'll get some help soon. Then she also has the UoP Professorship thing - that has brought quite a bit of entertainment into the household as well.

JF - Will we see pics of the control panel on SPF?

Well the wireless remote for the digital camera arrived yesterday, this is going to make taking the York picture a heck of a lot easier! Remote has a 25ft range and you can either have it snap the shot instantly or 2 second delay. The instant shot gets you aiming the remote at the camera every time, the 2 second delay gives you a little time to get your hand down, when the timer light comes on - drop that arm, then you'll see it flash and then the picture is taken. The instant button I think is more for when you are out of the picture... I love the instructions - Step 1: attach the camera to a tripod, or set it securely on a flat surface... duh... how are you going to hold the camera AND aim a remote at the front of the camera??? ConfusedSign - Dots

Also got the door knobs in from FactoryLocks.com. There is no way you could take these back to Lowes or Home Despot - they are in completely different packaging - Lowes and Home Despot have them in plastic (great for landfills) and the FactoryLocks.com come in paper boxes about 1/3 the size of the plastic things... Way to look out for the environment there Lowes and Home Despot! So I'll be installing the rest of the door knobs this weekend. Also found that the one closet door doesn't have false handles on the inside (I never thought to check that), so now I have two extra handles. I did check the basement closet where the well pumps, water filter, and water softener are located and it needs the false handles as well - and only on the outside of the doors - so they'll work there! Thumbs Up, so now I need 1 bed/bath and 2 closet handles for the basement - going to hold off on that till I determine what we're doing in the unfinished area as far as closet doors and access to the furnace/water heater room.
