Evening all!

Doug:  Home alone?!  Shock  We'll be right over!

Don:  That building's pretty upscale for the Chief.  Are you trying to turn him into a city boy?

Worked on Lionel Grainery project.  Almost finished.  Girls start swimming lessons tomorrow!  To da Pool!

 Good evening,

Well I did it, On the first day of Spring I took apart the Christmas / Winter scene on the mantle. It had about 25 ceramic buildings on three levels + street lights and lots of figures, but no train :dumb1: . The wife has been reminding me about it almost daily, so now it's done. Took me 8 trips to the 2nd floor to store it all away till next year.

Got word yesterday that the 44 year old daughter of friends of ours had passed away after fighting cancer for 5 years. She leaves a husband and three children the oldest being 14. Very sad situation.

Have a good weekend.

HI GYZ,

WOO!  St. PADDYs DAY a bit too much.  MY BEAR, STEVE, took me out for a WILD RIDE to a couple o places he knew.  Somewhere where there ia a GREEN RIVER, in the midwest, where lots o IRISH drink lots o BEER.  Said he knew someone in CHITOWN?   Then somewhere there is a BIG SILO with a name on it in OHIO.  He said the guy is also IRISH with a name of O'something?    After that he said we're going to MARYLAND to see a DOG?  I can't seem to remember?  Then there was this thing in the air that was spraying us with something golden with foam seemed familar and I LIKED IT!  I even drank some.  Kept me going, to where STEVE said we're ow in NC.  I could tell by these small little stinky houses, but hey I had to go soooooo.

I'm back now, so hope all is well?

JOHN F.  prayers to the neighbor lady, sorry for the loss.

This is my first post on the Coffee Pot.  I've read it from time to time, guess I'll join in.  Thanks for the invite, Chief.

I'm currently living in Sedalia, Mo., but grew up in Lansing, Mi.  Lived in Bowling Green, Ky. for 9 years in between.  Yup - another Yankee, though tempered somewhat by my time in Bowling Green.  Still, real gravy is brown, dirt is black, and grits is the grading system for sandpaper.

Weather has been hovering in the mid 50's to mid 60' here this week.  Sunshine most of the week, rain forcast for the weekend.

Buckeye ... if you went down the tracks at the paw paw tunnel there was a farm right before it . It was... if it's still there only about 75 - 100 yards from the tracks . Many years ago my dad leased it and my wife and kids would go up there every chance we got . I used to walk down the tracks which were active then and walk through the tunnel alot . That trussel bridge was NOT built for pedestrian traffic ... what a thrill to say the least to walk across it then . Right before the tunnel was a little building ... the railroad crews would throw all kinds of stuff down the bank ... railroad items ... towards the river . Dumb me never crawled down the hill and gathered up anything .  They used it like a junk area . Cleats , old switches , I mean a huge bunch of different things with railroad names imprinted on them. Always thought then I'd do it another day .... dumb me  Banged Head  . It was called the Horshoe Bend Farm . I used to sit on that porch ... no modern facilities whatsoever .... and enjoy watching the trains go by . My sons and I'd walk down to the tracks on the train schedule every time for them to wave at the engineers . Did you know there were supposed to have been around a hundred chinese laborers buried alive there ? Alot of folks up there say it is haunted . I never saw any ghosts but that story by the locals at paw paw spooked the devil out of my wife ... LOL . She'd never go with us . Those were the fabulous old days . I'm originally from the Oldtown - Paw Paw - Cumberland area . If any of you folks have'nt seen all of the C&O canal locks and bridges and tunnels in that area and around Hagerstown to Washington D.C. .... you're really missing some fantastic railroad sites and history . Plus the Antietam and Gettysburg battlefields .

Good Evening All,

John, Sorry to hear about the friends daughter, never is easy to take.

Sign - Welcome  8ntruck !!! Sedalia, Sedalia, hmmm OH, I know where that is at, welcome aboard!

Had a real good conversation with Ray this afternoon.   We know some common people from AGHR and his involvement with other activites here in So. Cal..  But then some business calls came up and I had to check out.  Maybe we will be able to get together next weekend at the TCA monthly meeting.  Hopefully, (then I will give him the low down on all you guys.)  BTW, their is a picture of a section of his layout in OGR this month, page 7, the Harbor Area.  Really looks good!!

Oldtimer,  Just read your post.  As someone who really enjoys history, their is just so much history back there and it is soooo interesting.  A lot more interesting than what is here.

SJ, I don't think he still has that building out back anymore.  Remember, a week ago or so he and the City Manager were having a tiff, that's what it was all about.  The manager had moved it to the town center.

Doug, I'm surprised you havn't sold the place yet, can't believe all the problems you have been having.  Are you sure you havn't ticked off a neighbor or someone, have you?  A whole week by your self???  Hmmmm are you sure you don't want to do a little layout expansion?

Patrick, What the heck are you feeding those animals, GRITS ??  Undigestable, or they spending too much time with the flamingos.

Dennis,  Don't forget to look for that truck at York.  Remember the old CTT truck, MAYBE you might get lucky.  I'll have the Raspberry Rumble Ice Cream available on the Tardis, just for you.

Jim Just sooo glad that she wasn't hurt!  She has a fantastic guardian angel!

Kurt, Turn the Chief into a city boy?  No way, Just felt a little sorry for him.  You know everytime it gets cold down there and snows, he is stuck in the house.  NOW THINK ABOUT IT, if he is stuck in the house for a day or 2, and can't get to the pond, no wonder his disposition changes.

Laz, Sure looks like you had a GREAT TIME,  Hope your recovery is quick!  Whew do you know how to party!!

Charlie, I just figured out yesterday MikeC's new acronym, now this one..... got me so far.

Brutus, Hope your sister is doing better, Going to have to send the Tardis in for a real clean-up soon.  After St. Pat's the floors are really sticky.

Buckeye, are you going to York, have an idea for you.

Doug(DG),  Everyones' been asking about ya?  You must've been real busy, hows the O scale outside going?

Got to work tomorrow morning, then to a trains show in the afternoon.  Wife is doing well still fighting off the cold/flu or crud, not sure.  But she is doing better.  (scale of 10, feeling 7, was -20)

Chief, I found an executive size addition for the building earlier.  When you get the first one finished let me know I'll send it too you.   By the way, saw where you were asking for Jon to send some corn down your way,  I tried to call you earlier to let you know that I called Jon and told him you only wanted the cobs.  But, he already knew that's what you meant, so everything is ok.

Been working on some plans/designs for your layout,  here are a couple of minor changes that really have a terrific impact.

Ole Timer......I know exactly where you are talking about.  We would put the sleeping bags on the bikes and headed out of Cumberland down the trail.  We rode it a total of three times, all 185 miles.  I have a dollar bill or two on the ceiling in the bar at Little Orleans.  I have also ridden the train through the bends.  In 2004 we stayed at the Cumberland Hotel overlooking the tracks and then rode the Potomac Eagle Train.

Don........Will not be going to York.  Should be there this fall.

Jon....Is it really snowing in Iowa this morning?

Laz.......Suspended from school again?

I can't believe Wake Forest was beaten. Never count on that area of the country to amount to anything.  They always screw things up.  As I predicted, OSU was beaten, however, the Old Gold and Black are gonna do it again.  Best game so far, the Zogs vs. the Zips.

Mornin' boys.  Sunny but chilly here in the Mid-Atlantic region.  I see Martin is on the pole for tomorrow's race.  He desperately needs a good finish.

8ntrack ---> Sign - Welcome.  Sandpaper....nicely done.

dbaker - Laugh.

Ole Timer - Every once in awhile I'll drive down 51 from Cumberland to PawPaw.  Would be a good town to model (Hint-Hint).  Make sure you include the Greenspring "toll" bridge.  One of my favorite views of the EAST END is from Prospect Peak, just west of Berkley Springs.  You can still see the WESTERN MARYLAND r-o-w across the river.

88 - Hope you have been checking out the John F Bromley collection.  New photos, some of Baltimore, Johnstown, and more on Pittsburgh, have been added daily.  Great stuff.

Fifedog ... you guys are making me homesick .... Ashamed   I hardly ever get back up there .... and it's so close . How do you all like all those railroad bridges over and through Cumberland .. wow .... so many different types in such a small area ? And a quick stop at that huge train yard with hundreds of cars  always there to take pics of . You know they shut that line/run down that used to go to Oldtown and to paw paw and on ... tore down the underpass at Oldtown ... broke my heart . The locals up there hated that toll bridge ... did you know it was built by a private family and operated in the beginning ? If I remember correctly it was 50 cents to cross . When I was a kid you could drive vehicles on the tow path . My grandad would throw us in his old 50 chevy pickup and we'd drive for miles fishing in the canal and river .... yea the canal has great fishing in it yet today at spots but everywhere back then .

Morning all. Welcome to our newest member! Pull up a chair. Sunny and cool here - got some errands to do before taking everyone to the airport - daughter working this morn and the youngest has a birthday party somewhere we'll try to squeeze in. Don, I'll run lots of trains, but have no place in the basement really to expand - hmmm, dining rm. table will be unused for a week though. That's an idea.  I'm making a list of projects that are easier done with no helpers around. Bet I don't get them done though. Wink Great chatting a bit with Charlie, Kurt, Brutus, and Sir J last eve.

Now theres someone that knows how things should beThumbs Up Yep I'm a yankee too 8ntruck. Glad to have you. you need to watch out for Patrick and chief. Don't let Dennis fool you as he is a yankee but living in the heart of the south has to pretend hes converted he even fools me sometimes. Smile

Well all as Brutus mentioned last night went to a local auction and picked up a small load basically post war and mid 70's stuff. Will probably put a bunch of it on choochoo as I bought most of it to resell.

I'm home today and tomorrow as I fell (actually chief snuck down and tripped me) and I pulled/twisted muscles in my left arm. I had the top to a bird bath in my hand at the time. ( heavy top about 45-50 LBS now in 3 pieces no biggie as it already a big crack in so when it hit it broke I really figured I would get a new top for it anyway when I bid on it. ( big $5.00)

Had fun anyway.

Not to much happening. Wanted to stop in and say hi.

8ntruck:  Welcome!

Swim lessons went well...swimmingly!  Brought both back still consious, and breathing on their own.  They had a great time.  Bride says I'm on my own with this one, as she doesn't want to go to the pool.

Quiet day planned.  I hope the kids will oblige.

Ole Timer - I actually love Cumberland enuff that I've modelled the town (as seen from I-68) and the Narrows, along with a little bit of Ridgely (had to get a sliver of WV in there).

Yes, the toll bridge is till there between Green Spring and Oldtown, and yes it's still 50cents (drop dem coins in da cup-on-the-stick).  If you were to model the area between Cumberland and Hancock, you, Brent and me will have effectively modelled the entire B&O/WM lines from Meyersdale to Baltimore (Old Main).  Howzabout that? Wink

Afternoon all.  Welcome 8N,  Yeah, this is a grit tossing zone, so duck!  Been very busy already this morning.  For the first time in over a year, I'm on the tractor cutting the lawn.  On call, so can't get too involved.  Met the new neighbor....his tractor is down and needed to take a break.  Found out he is a Harley man and will be leaving in the morning for a ride down to Key West and back with a group of friends.  Also collects antique firearms, so we have some things in common.   He has a Mauser collection as do I.

Wife just returned with the kids from a birthday party.  They had a good time and I got plenty done.
John, thanks for the reminder...I will keep an eye out.

Welcome 8Ntruck, join the party.

Don, I likewise enjoyed our conversation yesterday.  Maybe we can meet each other at the TCA Western meet in Arcadia on the 28th of March.  I'm pretty sure I will be there.  It would be interesting to get a run down on all the folks on the Coffee Pot so I don't have to figure out all the inside jokes.  Thanks for the plug for my magazine picture in OGR.  Actually it's on page 17, not 7.  Would have talked longer yesterday but sensed that you had business to attend to and did not want to keep you.

Where is our wondering Chief today?  Probably at the lake house or fell in the pond dumping lime in it.

Cloudy weather today with chance of rain tonight and tomorrow.  Ran trains a little yesterday and gave some of my older MTH proto 1 engines some excercise. They get neglected sometimes because I like the newer proto 2 stuff better.

Has anyone heard when the add on cars for the 19th century woodsided passenger cars are due out?  I have'nt noticed any advertised in the mail order ads.  They are for a baggage, combine and observation car.  I have the first three coaches but need the rest.  I also need to get the right kind of engine to pull them.  The NYC999 seems too small to me even though it is probably correct.

No Thursday night meeting this week due to lack of interest.  Gave me a rest though and had pizza instead.

Have a good day y'all

Sign - Welcome 8ntruck!  Turn on a beacon or porch light tonight and we'll pick you up!  I know where Sedalia is as we have driven through or past it many times!

Don - Christine is doing pretty well now, last I talked to her, a week ago.  I think it was weighing on her mind that they had just told everyone a week earlier that they were pregnant and then they had been away, so now they would have to talk to everyone again and just keep dealing with it over and over again.  I'm sure we've all been there before one way or another, dealing with all the questions over and over again.

Son is doing a lot better today - we think he'll be over the virus in time to go back to school Eight Ball

Kurt - sounds like fun, we need to sign back up at the Y.

RT - oh no, I hope your arm is okay?  Be careful!  You need to list all that stuff you got for the guys here!

Neat to read about that haunted railroad and all that Cumberland area, thanks for sharing!  Got any pictures?

Worked 6 hours OT, picked up more supplies for basement, and picked up a double Filet-O'Fish from Mickey-D's on the way home, yummy!  Now, I need to go do a little work on the basement, then do a little wiring on the temp temp layout.  Or, I might just zone out here for a while.  We shall see!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

8ntruck - My welcome to you as well. A word of caution about RT. He is in SOUTH Carolina and one of us Rebs. He will tell you otherwise, but he is just setting you up for a conversion. Whistling Sorry to pick on you RT, what with all your bruises and bird bath loss. Evil

Don - The chickens do look like they were cross-bred with flamingos. Going to feed them grits to return them to normal.

fife - 8ntruck must be buying his grits from Home Depot rather than from Safeway. Confused

The Greenburg train show today was OK, but there was less "O" than usual. A lot more "HO". I got a few things. Would have gotten more if more dealers took credit cards. Most of them at this show do NOT take the cards. I used the three checks and cash I brought with me. There was an ATM machine, but I have never used one, wouldn't know how. And the fees are to high.

Several dealers with $1500.00 plus engines didn't take credit cards, and one didn't take checks. Who carries that much cash?

However, it is a good weekend. A train show and two NASCAR races. Not bad.

Fifedog ... WOW ! Did you put in the cliff area where the indian couple jumped off and killed themselves when they could'nt get married or what ever american indians did then ? It's an old Cumberland legend . Man I'll bet that model of Cumberland  is fabulous .  The city on hills . Brutus ... yea I'd like to see some too of it . You know I never took any pics of the actual great sites railroad related ... they were etched in my mind ... but by golly I'm going to plan a trip up there for an all day photo shoot and fill all my memory cards . Just like that overpass they tore down ... now it's gone forever . It was really cool . Gonna do the same around here too ... they keep eliminating old scenes and sites and someday I guess they'll all be gone .  Ashamed  A trip to paw paw and shoot the fabulous bridge and the tunnel also . Man I may have to bunk at my cousin's and make it a 2 day venture ... LOL . Why I never did ... oh well same old excuse ... thought I never had time ... by golly now's the time . Bought all this fancy camera and all and it just lays in the case .

Oh 8ntruck ignore patrick hes just upset because I live in the south and won't convert to rebelism. he tries to get everyone to do that, that is here except the ones in Fl as he knows Fl really isn't a southern state anymore although it is south of the Mason Dixon Line. Its been taken over by yankees and most rebels are affraid to go there as yankeeism is taught very widely and freely there.

Great pick-ups, RT. Got the family off to Phoenix OK, then came back to prune tree limbs and clean the deck. Sadly discovered our beloved tramopline has a broken weld so I took it down which was a bigger deal than I thought. Now what am I gonna do with a 15 ft circle of mud and weeds? Gonna grade some classes tonight and maybe start an article while trains are running Smile  Whew!
