In your pic of the day I saw a farm in the place of the city street?? Did you change that part or is it another part of the layout??

Tom and Jim were right. Mega Steam or Smoke [whatever] pours out the smoke. My old Lionel steamers really go to town now. The Polar Express, which was a good smoker anyway, now fills the air. Almost goes the full length of a 15 car consist. BTW, all of you that have the Polar Express. Does it smoke out the sides too? I did not know it that is suppose to be the steam coming out or if my stack gasket was not there. Mine smokes about as much out both side as it does the stack. Even the K-Line Trainmaster [not much of a smoker unless you load it down with a heavy consist] does better with diesel smoke. Wait until the wife gets home. TRAIN SMOKE!!!! [her nick name should be Trixie the bloodhound anyway [;)]] I do not want to use "fake" sents. After all, these are trains. [8D]

JT's is the best.[^] In the "Sunday Photo Fun" I submitted a photo of my F-3's pulling the Madison consist but later in the day I switched over to my K-Line Mikado. Unfortunately we were way to busy to get any photos. With the heavyness of the Madisons as opposed to the wood sided reefers it usually pulls it really put out the smoke as well as from the steam chest.

Try this! The next time you read one of "Chief of the Beach's" posts, touch your computer screen...does it feel warmer than usual? I'm baffled as to how Hot Air can travel as far as it does...

OK Chief, it’s time for me to start sending you some more OHIO. We have about 4” at 30 deg and a lot more coming. Tomorrow morning drive to work should be fun.

Glad you like the smoke fluid, but you should keep Mrs. Chief happy by using the good smelling scents. Then she will make you happier.

Daan – I have always had the farm there, it just isn’t a good place to shot pics.

all be safe tonight.

How's everyone doing ? The laundry is going to get down after dinner, so the garage should be warm enough for some training. It did get up into the lower 60s today so I can rival the Chief for the weather, but still hitting low 30s at night.

Take care all talk to you after some trainin.

Evening Folks,
Tom, we're getting the same storm system as you all, but it's too warm down hear to do anything but make everything wet and soggy. Feel free to send some of your cold air down this way :).

Just came in from cleaning the snow from my drive and the widow next door. Someone missed the road and drove thru her yard. Left some pretty deep ruts. To bad they did stop and tell her about it and offer to pay the damages.

Chief – I got the newsletter from MTH today on the DCS upgrade. I haven’t had time to do the down load.

Laz – I don’t know who would want to pay for our ugly faces.

Well, time to turn in so we can get up and do more cleaning tomorrow.

Here is wishing all the kids on the forum that have to go to school, get snowed in. [:D] Laz, do not know about the smoke units. Was looking today at some post war diesels and thinking that I could install smoke on them. Then I could smoke up the house real good. Maybe someone on here will give us some answers. If not, make it a main topic.

Hi everyone, I would normally be doing all those fun winter things also. But this year we are spending the winter in Henderson NV. It seems there is no snow here to fool with. Can't say that I miss it all that much either. I'm drinking decaf tea instead of coffee tonight.

So close...yet so far away
http://www.wave3.com/Global/story.asp?S=27278

Chief, I recently put some smoke units in MPC U36bs, but it should work for most postwar engines.

I took a #8 Seuthe smoke unit, soldered it to a sheet of brass, and hot glued it directly underneath the smoke hole. It didn't take too long to install, and works fairly well.

Larry, bet you got some of the rain that hit San Diego there. I saw some casino parking lots under water on the news. But it still beats snow.

Tom, I live in SoCal- what is shoveling snow ? [:)]

Jerry, hope you get the snow you are wishing for. I put a call in to Frosty for you.

Doug, no SW, don't you like stop overs in Phoenix on every flight ?

Ben, heres hoping you get some white stuff also.

Good Morning all

NE Ohio is still in the middle of a winter mix. 6” of snow last night and then freezing rain overnight on top of it. I sure am glad that I cleaned the drive last night. Temp at 31 deg. To think, they say we will be in the 60’s next week, it must be a Chief thing coming.

TurboOne – watch the weather channel – they will show you some, I am sure.

Pick of the Day

all be safe

Exactly 100 years ago, a trolley departed downtown Bern, Switzerland on an otherwise ordinary journey.

But it was no ordinary journey. It was a journey that would change the course of history and our understanding of the universe, and lead to future momentous events.

As the trolley left the station, a city clerk looked back at the towering clock tower in the city center and went into one of his frequent daydreams.

The young man was always on cloud nine. His teachers never thought he'd amount to anything, but he did manage to land a job in the patent office as a low-ranking clerk, so at least he was gainfully employed.

As the trolley clanged along the boulevard, the young man stared at the clock receeding into the distance. In his mind, he took control of the trolley and drove it faster and faster and faster.

Soon the trolley was going 100, 200, 300 mph down the street past surprised residents.

Soon it was going 1,000, 10,000 and then 100,000 mph. It finally maxed out at 186,000 miles per second.

The young man looked at the now very faint image of the clock in the distance and noticed that the hands on the clock had stopped.

Yes, that's right, time had stopped.

And now you know the rest of the story.

DaveV - just think...if ol' Al could have got the the trolley to go just a leeeetle bit faster, he could have gone back in time. I, for one, wouldn't mind going back to the '50s for a drive-in movie, then stopping off at the A&W for a frosty root beer, and trying to steal a kiss from my first crush...driving my very first car - a 1956 Studebaker...

...just a little bit faster...(sigh)

Jim,

I hear you. If I could turn back the hands of time, I'd go to 1979, to a sweetheart I once knew who now is 6,000 miles away. Haven't seen her in 22 years.

If you like the trolley that traveled back in time (or at least made time stop), you might like the Archimedes Screw trolley:

http://www.mcs.drexel.edu/~crorres/Archimedes/Screw/Screw_amusement.jpg

In Dec04 Scientific America. Exactly 100 years ago, the Archimedes Screw RR was supposedly built at the World's Fair (San Fran?, 1904).

Passengers sit in cars at the bottom and then the screw rotates around them and they ascend to the top, seated upright and traveling in a straight line inside the screw.

The most unusual railroad in the world.

Good Morning,

Boys, be careful what you wish for--depending on where you live within 20 miles of here we have between 10-16" of snow with below zero wind chills. I could never understand the wi***o miss school, I'd sure rather be a classroom at this time of the year instead of making up days during spring break or June. One week ago 63 degress, today------the literal Polar Express.
