Thor,
I will give some thought to 0 guage again.
Just watching a prog. on TV of a replica of Stephensons Rocket from the NRM on a re-run of the rainhill locomotive trials, it had no brakes! Rainhill is 20 miles from here.
There is a Lionel collectors society in UK, and I think I may have found an importer so it looks like I might finally get something rolling.
+8 here in Stockport, windy and showery, winter's around the corner.
Any of you guys ever tried tea the way we make it? We did invent it. Well not really, it was the Chinese and they always drank it hot and still do.

Good morning all.

Good to be back at work this morning after a weekend of out of control kids. We ran the Polar Express last night. It's turning into quite a train with its 6 car consist. Just for laughs, I pressed the whistle button on my MRC transformer and it blew the PE's air whistle! Now that I've mentioned that, it will probably never do so again.

All have a great day.

John, to prove what I said about having less space than anyone, here's Asherah and I playing trains yesterday using a card table and a kitchen table to make an L. I got an oval and two sidings out of it and she had a great time. - Mike

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a foggy 38 degrees. Looks gloomy. Only going up to 42 today.

Today, I have some errands to run and a few chores around the house. I guess that's a normal Monday. Starting to get the Christmas lights together to put outside. The Holidays are coming quickly.

May get a chance to run trains later. Had a few good hours over the weekend.

Time for breakfast in the Dining Car. Later.

Y'all have a great Monday.

Good Morning,

Roy, Have a safe and enjoyable trip to NYC.

Colin, You have this old man confused?  What game had two goals in overtime, I assume you mentioned the Eagles and then changed subjects? Question [?]

Looks like everyone is getting ready for the Christmas season.  I am working on my christmas train, sloooowly.

Rainy and cool, to be that way most of the week.

Off to the fitness center, then lunch with the HS Class of '57.

Good morning from a grey and cool Chicago where I am finally back in the office. Miss a day on this thread and there's a lot to catch up on. What is this Ohio State-Michigan thing? Is it the name of an old interurban line? The only American Football games I am aware of involve da Bears or a team from South Bend, Indiana.

We had a busy weekend. The bride and middle son were in a drama at church yesterday. I was on the main camera. That is a like a fun relief from video directing all of the cameras.  The daughter had her electronic baby doll from her health class - the thing was weirdly realistic: it would cry regularly even overnight and she would have to care for it. The head was on gimbals and would roll back if not supported, deducting points. It certainly has shocked her and her friends about the care a real baby needs. Good thing.

John and Jon, I love your videos. That Shay is impressive. I think YouTube has a 10 min. limit.

Welcome, cooltech!

Don, I always put up our Christmas decorations right after Thanksgiving. I was shocked to see all the Christmas decorations up in the big city buildings / train station in Chicago this morning: trees, lights, music, very weird to me.  Must have done them over the weekend.

Mitch, I am thrilled about the adoption of Brian. We'll keep him and his new family in our prayers. All three of our kids are adopted.

John Baker, I think you could still fit O gauge in your space. Remember whatever you decide to fill that space, you're always welcome on this forum. I regularly buy some British modeling and prototype magazines at our local book-seller: they are fantastically expensive now. I built a British outline layout when I was in N scale using Tomix Thomas the Tank engine trains.  I love reading about the train parades at Rainhill. I wonder how they stopped the Rocket without brakes.

The bride wants to go out East for Christmas to visit my family.  Five plane tickets and a rent-a-car will be a killer financially and I don't relish all jamming into my parent's house for nearly a week, but it is very important to her. We'll see what I can work out. Have a good day all.

Sounds like a traditional Christmas to me!  Take full advantage of it while you can, well worth every cent, don't forget the video camera!

I agree, Don. They're only young once - and maybe I'll be able to visit all the toy train displays in New York City - the Lionel layout in Grand Central Station et al.

John, while I am a coffee drinker first, especially in the a.m., I do enjoy hot tea in the afternoons and evenings. Usually black tea but often green tea. I don't know about the health benefits, anti-oxidants and all that, I just enjoy it. Let me also encourage you to give O a chance. You can do a lot with O-27 track in a small space.

As far as the OSU-Michigan thing goes, I don't have a dog in that fight, but I heard a good one on ESPN:

BTW, the game starts at 3:30 pm EST on Saturday.   The emergency rooms will be empty.  Crime is put on hold.  Stores will be closed.  All TVs will be up and running. Traffic around Ohio will decrease to a trickle.  The airports will be shut down.  The trains will stop running, but during half time, the sewage plants are kicked into overtime.   The brewery in Columbus is working overtime this week to make sure there is an adequate supply.

It is a cool -29°F this morning here in the far north. Hoping the temps climb up to -10° by afternoon.

darianj: Today the actual sunrise was at 9:19 am and actual sun set will be at 3:49 pm. The twilight factor here in the northland makes it feel like the sun is out longer than it really is. Between Thanksgiving and Feb 1st the daylight is pretty sparse up here. But Hey the sun does actually rise and set each day, not to far north of here folks don't see the sun at all during the winter.

In my opinion, best part about winter is when the moon is at lease half full and the skies are clear! On nights like that, even in the dark, you can see clear as a bell. It is like living in a black & white picture. For many years I was a dog musher and spent most of my nights on long training runs with my dog team. Even 18 years later when I am out on moonlit nights in the winter I miss bumping along the trails through the woods.

Wow the Buckeye's vs Wolverine's clash is really beginning to build. Not sure yet who I will be cheering on in that one. Any Auburn fans out there? If so please explain what happen to them this weekend. A friend of mine has a younger brother who is their starting middle linebacker. He was bummed when I saw him on Sunday afternoon he kept mumbling about Auburn self-destruction  on Saturday.

HELP NEEDED: I am sure one of you could keep me out with a forum problem. I am getting dozens and dozens of automated email replies to may account each day, does everyone get these or is there a way I can set my profile to make the auto reply cease! I set all my option to "no" in my profile but the replies keep coming.

Regards from the Freezer!

Doug & John,

Thanks for the comments about the You Tube and the Shay. The only reason it happened is because my oldest son and family were here for a long weekend! He's a demon on my Mac and can make it fly, they' will be here for a week around Christmas and I'm putting my list together now so he can help me. I have a .Mac account that I want to post lots of pics and video's to, it would make it very easy for forumites to take advantage of it to view.

Doug, I have to agree with John B. about the trip, go and take miles of video. I wish we had video's of our boy's with our folks but all we had then was 8 mm film. Still fun to look at those old pic's :)

Good afternoon everyone,

I just got in the door from driver's ed a few minutes ago.

Jefelectric I was on the topic of the Eagles game, but then Mike C brought up the topic about the MLS soccer game, so sorry if I confused you.

Nothing going on here, I am going to finish up some homework. Be back on later.

I was sent these by email.  I thought they were real cute:

I think they go along with some kids I know from New England, well, mabe a couple in South Georgia too.

Kids in Church:

3-year-old Reese:
"Our Father, Who does art in heaven,
Harold is His name.
Amen."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A little boy was overheard praying:
"Lord, if you can't make me a better boy, don't worry about it.
I'm having a real good time like I am."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

After the christening of his baby brother in church,
Jason sobbed all the way home in the back seat of the car.
His father asked him three times what was wrong.
Finally, the boy replied,
"That preacher said he wanted us brought up in a Christian home,
and I wanted to stay with you guys."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I had been teaching my three-year old daughter, Caitlin,
the Lord's Prayer for several evenings at bedtime.
She would repeat after me the lines from the prayer.
Finally, she decided to go solo.
I listened with pride as she carefully enunciated each word,
right up to the end of the prayer:
"Lead us not into temptation," she prayed,
"but deliver us from E-mail.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

One particular four-year-old prayed,
"And forgive us our trash baskets
as we forgive those who put trash in our baskets."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A Sunday school teacher asked her children as they
were on the way to church service,
"And why is it necessary to be quiet in church?"
One bright little girl replied,
"Because people are sleeping."
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Six-year-old Angie and her four-year-old
brother, Joel, were sitting together in church.
Joel giggled, sang, and talked out loud.
Finally, his big sister had had enough.
"You're not supposed to talk out loud in church."
"Why? Who's going to stop me?" Joel asked.
Angie pointed to the back of the church and said,
"See those two men standing by the d o or?
They're hushers."

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A mother was preparing pancakes for her sons, Kevin 5, and Ryan 3.
The boys began to argue over who would get the first pancake.
Their mother saw the opportunity for a moral lesson.
"If Jesus were sitting here, He would say,
'Let my brother have the first pancake, I can wait.'
Kevin turned to his younger brother and said,
"Ryan, you be Jesus!"
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

A father was at the beach with his children
when the four-year-old son ran up to him,
grabbed his hand, and led him to the shore
where a seagull lay dead in the sand.
"Daddy, what happened to him?" the son asked.
"He died and went to Heaven," the Dad replied.
The boy thought a moment and then said,
"Did God throw him back down?"

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
A wife invited some people to dinner.
At the table, she turned to their six-year-old daughter and said,
"Would you like to say the blessing?"
"I wouldn't know what to say," the girl replied.
"Just say what you hear Mommy say," the wife answered.
The daughter bowed her head and said,
"Lord, why on earth did I invite all these people to dinner?"
Good evening everyone,
Doug, If you want to get any kind of deal on the tickets, better buy now. Then again if you are going over Christmas, just getting tickets may not be easy.
Enough on the Michigan-Ohio thing for a while. BTW over on the other forum they are having a big discussion about the Rutgers Car being canceled.
Brought home my latest acquisition today. An MTH Reading T-1, 4-8-4. I love it, runs great, sounds great. looks great. Going to use it to pull my K-line 18" passenger cars.  This is my birthday present to myself, since I will be 68 tomorrow.
It rained most of the day here. At the moment it has stopped, but doesn’t look like it will last.
Had a nice lunch with HS Class of 57. We meet once a month alternating lunch and dinner. Had 27 there today. Our class had only 105 so that is pretty good considering we live all over the USA. Would you believe this,we had as guests today, the 2nd and 3rd grade teachers that taught most of us. They are sisters, one is 90 and the other is 86. The 90 year old still bowls once a week. She told us that two years ago she fell and damaged her right rotator cuff and now bowls left handed. Now that is true grit!
Hey John,
Happy Pre Birthday! Hope it's a good one, lot's to be thankful for to be sure and your class reunion sounds like great fun.  I like your ability to plan your own birthday gifts, I've already started that with my Christmas giftsSmile [:)], York was a big part of that plan!
Best Wishes!
Happy B-Day [bday]  John ( jefelectric )..... HAPPY BIRTHDAY !!!!!!!!!!!!!!Happy B-Day [bday]
That story of the left handed bowler was amazing.  Some of those nuns are tough cookies.
Thanks guys for all the congratulatory notes on Brian joining our family.  My wife is really jealous becasue her sisters in Florida got to meet Brian first.  My parents, my sister, brother-in-law and Brian went to dinner tonight at my wife's sister's house in St Petersburg, FL.  We are going to my sister's house in Maryland over the weekend to help prepare the nursery for Brian's arrival.  We are also beginning to plan what we will do for Thanksgiving if part of my family is still in Florida next week.  Hopefully the courts will work thoroughly and quickly to get all the paperwork completed.  Once Brian is checked out by the Dr on Wednesday, they will be able to travel to the Florida/Georgia border waiting for final word so they can take Brian home.
Take care,
Mitch
