WOW a MTH Reading T1 your the king now JOHN, Have FUN RUNNING that BIG ENGINE.  Where did you get it at COOLTRAINS or BARRY?

I went pheasant hunting on Saturday.  Me and my bro got a bird each, woohoo flushed 5 total caught us sleeping but we did manage to calm down after the first two misses and connected on the second ones.  The last one flushed wild, about 50 yards in front of us.  But lots o fun then had fire with burgers and dogs with beer.   Good time.

Today I had the dreaded parent teachers conferences.  Oh well no parents again.  Got my budget in for next year and built two train shelfs for rolling stock.  Made them 4 ft X 4ft. easier to handle and put up down stairs.

MITCH good luck with the adopted grand kid.

Oh yea BEARS WIN!!!!!!!

It wasn't pretty but we will take it.

Good nite.

Happy B-Day [bday] Happy Birthday John!  Happy B-Day [bday]

Great day in Columbus, they fired the coach of the Blue Jackets Hockey Team.   Fans were getting really restless with all the losses. Seats were empty in the arena owned by Nationwide.

Well it's official.  We will be heading to Bethelehem, PA  for Thanksgiving and I of course will get to visit those great eastern train stores and the firestation layouts.

See ya down the tracks,

Thanks guys,

Laz, I got this one at Barry's.  It runs on the 042 at the old end of the layout, but doesn't look comfortable doing it.  Guess I will break done and change the outer loop to 054.  I have the space on the layout & should have built it that way but didn't.  Now it is going to be a lot more work, but everything will run better.

Went to the pond this PM.  Walked and heard shots.  The boys from the top of the hill were walking around shooting.  Had pitbull with them [the one that attacked me and then the Police Chief] that is supposed to be chained or will be destroyed.  When I said something about it to Pee Wee, he grabbed his colar and drug him home.  Dog really did not try to act up but he did not want him too as I was armed.  Time he attacked me was a surprise as I had been around him since he was a pup.  I wasn't armed until I got back to the truck.  I kept kicking him in the chest everytime he leaped at me until Pee Wee grabbed him.  I went to truck and he tried to jump in the window.   That is when he met the pistol.  Pee Wee grabbed him just before I would have shot him.  I did not report it because it was the boys' dog.  Then he atacked the Police Chief at the ball park.  He called animal control.  Been declared vicious and was to be destroyed but the boys paid a fine twice and got him back twice.  He is supposed to be chained at all times.  Next thing was all three had shotguns.  Well, one of the older ones is on intensive probation [two counts of B&E].  He can not have a weapon.  I think the one is not the one the Police Chief thinks is the one.Question [?]Question [?]  That is due to nicknames.  I know them as nicknames and he knows them as their real names.  I have tried to help these boys, bought rods and reels for them, given them lures, taken them fishing in my pond boat, let them fish my private pond and talked to them but they just get in trouble and cause me trouble.  Then when cornered, they lie to me.  Some people you just can't help. Kevin,
I get loads of ads for Viagra, shares and spoof messages from banks which run on into hints on how to enlarge parts of the male anatomy!
I too am at a complete loss as to how to stop them, the clever guys tell me the only effective way is to change your e-mail address and not to use the net for purchasing, just e-mail trusted friends, but even then they may get hit by spy ware and back you go. The only answer is to go back to snail mail.
Hopefully the people that run the net will finally come up with something to stop them.
Like any human security invention, there's always a clever sod around the corner with the whit to circumvent the system.

Hi Guys the temps are still dropping up here around the North Pole. Weather guy is talking -30° -35° below by morning.

John B.: thanks for the advise on the spam mail. I have blockers in place for that kind unwanted junk email. I was not very clear and/or specific enough about the amount of automated emails hitting my box.

The messages that I am receiving are coming from each post to this CTT forum. So every time someone post a reply or starts a new thread I get an email with the context of the post by all the guys on the forum. I have followed all the directions in the email to make these stop but so far they have not worked.

I like to read the forum when I log in via the website which is great, but also getting every message/reply/posting sent my email is getting a little too crazy.

Have any of you other guys had this happen because of the forum? If anyone can suggest a way to make the emails stop coming please sing out!!

Thanks for any suggestion.

Chief, I have had my share of run-ins with bad dogs (and their owners who refuse to be responsible care takers) and it sounds like the one you described is BAD! Best thing I can think of to cure a case of bad attitude in a dog like that is a serious case of lead poisoning– it sounds like you have just the medicine for the cure. As for the owner, well you know what they say "pets take on the character traits of their owners"! Keep us posted.

Good morning everyone, and HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN!!!!!!!Happy B-Day [bday]

John,
Glad to see you treated yourself to a present. I hope your day is nothing but pleasant. Got your delivery yesterday. Sincere thanks!

The kiddos and I painted figures for the layout last night until bed time. Then I re-painted the lettering on our 2400 series passenger cars. Looks great.

I must confess, my children are not the best behaved kids in church each week. The boys, aged 3, will not sit still or keep quiet. In time it will work itself out.

Looking forward to the big train show this weekend.

Have a great day all.

Let me know.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and cold in SE Indiana with temps maybe hitting the low 50s today.  Happy belated birthday, John!   I had a wonderful evening last night, dining with 25 of the most lovely ladies in the world as the soocer team's coach invited me to attend the award's banquet.  I had prepared a message to the team for her to read and she decided to invite me to be there.  I usually ask one of the parents to take a team picture for me, but I was able to do so myself.  It was a very good night.  Then when I got home, there was a message from an indoor league wanting some one to ref their games.  So this may turn out to be quite lucrative as well.  We shall see.  I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Morning all.  It's been a while posting to the coffee thread.  I just loose track of where we are with so easily as it scrolls pages by so quick.  Kodiak Junction is having a housing boom.  2 new families have moved in since the UFO incident.  The business district is coming along and it looks like the Groundhog Army Core of Engineers with make great progress on the West Side wall.

Looks like I'll be spending Thanksgiving in Lincoln NB this year.  ABC football game on Friday afterwards.  Hope all are having a good week.  Happy B Day John!

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a gloomy 41 degrees. Only going up to 52 today, with a chance of rain showers later today. Need some sunshine.

Today, we are grocery shopping in Cambridge. Lots of fun. Gas prices are starting to creep back up. $ 2.14 is the cheapest around here.  They sure like to play with the economy.

I may run trains later this afternoon. Have all the Christmas lights ready to put up. Trees grew and now I need an extra string on 3 of them. And they are higher. This will be interesting. I got a new Christmas lawn decoration. A train with tender and 2 cars. Lights go around on the wheels. Looks like they are moving. I'll take some pics.

Dining Car just called for " All Aboard ".  Breakfast.

Y'all have a great Tuesday.

And....again....HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN !!!!!!!

I'm sure it's just a coincidence that gas prices are starting to rise now that the elections are over. $2.15 a gallon here for the cheap stuff.

Good morning from a grey and cool Chicago where the high will be in the 40s and the gas prices are moving up from $2.25 - it was just 2.12 a week ago. Fancy that. Happy B-Day [bday] to John!  I'm looking forward to seeing photos of that T-1.  Fitted the final track together last night for two sidings while listening to Jimmy Durante on the radio. I had to fiddle with things a bit. It seems I've moved from a rural interurban layout to a busy one. 'Course nothing works on the new line.  I have to go over it tonight perhaps to ensure it's not disconnected somewhere else. I also pulled the plug on the HO transformer I've been using to power a few lights on Mt. Seaman. It's in the far side of the layout and is getting too hot. Can't be good.

Now that I have bashed my New England Yank, sunny and warm here.  Off to visit my other female Dr.  She insists on me coming by for a visit due to the cold not getting better and I am traveling out Thursday AM.  Another day shot.  Youngest is coming for a couple of nights.  Will grill chickens, boiled potatoes and something green.  Might have potatoes boiled and ready and let wife make her famous potato salad. Dinner [dinner]Big Smile [:D] [extra good because it contains he wonderful homemade sweet pickle relish]  I hope you Yanks are taking lessons on how to have great meals.  Big Smile [:D]

Marty, sorry for the hoilday work.  Looks like my last trip until sometime in Jan. is this week end to Omaha.  Suspending all training and etc until after the New Year.  Big Smile [:D]  Wife smiled and said that means you can work on the layout.  YES!!!! [if the Town and County will let me alone]

John B, I use Adaware SE and it does a great job of blocking "cookies" and adds and then the Norton Internet Security has spam blocker.  Only thing is, you have to check the blocked list every day as some good mail will go there too.  That is due to my level I have set to block spam.

Later.

Another rainy day here to get better as the day goes on?

JELECTRIC, I think it would be a good idea to run the T1 on 0-54 track got to make it look comfortable.  I know what you mean with the smaller track just doesn't look right. Did you get a good deal from BARRY?

AK KEVIN, -30-35 WOW is that normal?  It sure is cooold?

BUCKEYE, have fun in Bethlehem.  Too bad I'll be 2hrs away.  If you get a chance go downtown and check out the TALLY HO for a "HO" burger and a few beers.  Thats if you get tired of turkey?

All have agood one.

Kevin,
Try accessing through a different browser, that may be it.?

BTW - Actually started moving in trains to the train room yesterday, Got all the trains out of the family room, dinning room, living room, and 80% out of the master bedroom.  Whew I don't think need anymore train stuff.   BAD NEWS --- Arnies, my favorite LHS, announced his annual 20% off sale starting this week, AND Cal Stewart meet this weekend.  (The biggest train show on the west coast), I may be in trouble..

Thanks for the good wishes guys.

Laz, I think I got a good deal.  It is amusing the way those guys work.  I deal with Mike and then he goes in the back room to confer with Barry, back and forth that way.

A little controversy on these T-1s.  They come with white rims on the drivers and leading truck & yellow handrails. The MTH catalog shows them all black.  Mike called after I got home and said they had another customer complain and they took it back, asked if I was happy & I said yes.  I checked my print resources and some internet sites and found prototypes painted in many variations.  Since I am using it as a passenger engine (the originals were actually designed and primarily used as freight engines, only a few were used to pull passenger consists.) I like the colors, makes it look classy.  Besides I am not a true rivit counter, left that behind when I left HO.

Kevin, Don't think I will be moving to Alaska any time soon, I get cool when the temp goes below 80.

Typing this at daughter computer.  I am sitting with the 3 & 5 year old while baby sister and Mom are at the Drs.  Got a surprise when I arrived.  The 5 year old baked me a cake in her easy bake oven, so we had a little birthday party for three.

Got to go they want to play.

Thanks all of you for the guidance re. Spam, I had 15 in my inbox as I came on line now. I have NAV, but the blighters are still getting through.
Have done an update on my profile but can't find any thing about preferences.
I had a look at the Lionel web site; it seems that a switcher, 4 cars and a caboose are over 5'0" long, look pretty stupid on my 8'0" layout. Afraid my days of crawling around the carpet are long gone, and the fluff would gum up the mechanisms anyway. So I guess I'm stuck with N gauge if I want to run a train.
I'm hoping someone will by me a subscription to CTT for Xmas.
Gas at $2.15? I should wish! Here it's the equivalent of $7.20 and my car does 50 MPG.

Not much to report here today. A gloomy, rainy day in a gloomy, rainy week.

I am making a sign that says "TO THE TRAINS" featuring Lenny the Lionel Lion. I'm going to hang it at the bottom of the basement stairs pointing towards the train room. The kids and visitors will get a kick out of it. We are having a lot of guests over for a get-together Saturday night, so I want to get the train room looking good. But what to run? I'm thinking a long freight pulled by our 671 on the outer loop and a passenger train on the inner loop. The 2400 series passenger cars being pulled by the UP Alcos make a nice looking train. I guess that's where I can begin. My second choice would be the Polar Express on the outer loop, and our 2025 pulling freight on the inner loop. Whatever. It's all good. I want to highlight so many things. Railsounds, smoke, vintage trains, Thomas,  . . . Tough to do on 2 small loops of track.

A blind man wanders into an all girls biker bar by mistake. He finds his
way to a bar stool and orders a drink. After sitting there for a while,
he
yells to the waiter, "Hey, you wanna hear a blonde joke?"...

The bar immediately falls absolutely silent. In a very deep, husky
voice,
the woman next to him says, "Before you tell that joke, sir, I think it
is
only fair -- given that you are blind -- that you should know five
things:
1. The bartender is a blonde girl with a baseball bat.
2. The bouncer is a blonde girl.
3. I'm a 6 foot tall, 175 lb. blonde woman with a black belt in karate.
4. The woman sitting next to me is blonde and a professional
weightlifter.
5. The lady to your right is blonde and a professional wrestler.

Now, think about it seriously, Mister. Do you still wanna tell that
joke?"

The blind man thinks for a second, shakes his head, and mutters,
"No.....not if I'm gonna have to explain it five times."

Good Morning,

Alaskan weather guys missed the mark by a mile temps did not drop into the -30°'s last night so it stayed around -16° which is nice by Fairbanks standards.

LAZ: It is not usually 30 below this time of the year but it happens once in a while. Between December to the end of Feb. it can get way down there and stay down there for weeks at a time. Thats why 16 below does not feel that cold. It is a dry cold which is much easier to tolerate than the cold you guys have to deal with in the Lower 48. That kind of weather thins out the "Cheechako's".

This email thing is a tough one to figure out. This morning I had another thrity emails or so since last night from the CTT forum.  I noticed in my forum user PROFILE under EMAIL OPTIONS  (for forum only) the first setting is called "Receiving Emails" with either a "Yes" or "No" option. Everytime I set it to "No" and smack the save changes button it says changes made can take up to ten minutes to take place. (I am pretty sure this is where all the  emails are being triggered from.)

Then I go back to forum and read a couple posts then check my PROFILE again and find the "Receiving Emails" setting has been changed back to "Yes" from "No".

So if any of you guys reading this use a Mac could you check your profile and tell me what your setting is in the "Receiving Emails" options category is. I have used Firefox and Camino browsers and both respond the same setting always defaults back to "Yes". I will try Safari browser after posting this message.

Thanks for the help guys.

Hey Chief, maybe you could trade me your dog problem for my email problem.

Regards from the North,
Kevin T.

Kevin,

I use a Mac and when I use Safari I leave the email line blank and it's seems OK. But then again, this software is "quirky" at best, good luck.

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JOHN!!!!!!!Happy B-Day <img src=" src="/trccs/emoticons/icon_smile_bday.gif">

I turned 43 last week - went to Spamalot on Saturday then had pizza with some family and friends and back home for cake and Boston Creme Pie (benefits of being a border state)!  I got a gift card for iTunes, so need to figure out 15 songs I really want (and don't already have).

Chief - It would be too bad if that dog just disappeared off the face of the earth, never to be seen again.

Doug - You may be right about the gas prices since the election!

Instead of regular pancakes Sunday morning, this week I want powder sugar donut pancakes.  I don't have any idea how they are made, but they have got to be Good!

Laz - sounds like you had a good time.  Hey, on that CNS Router -- can you import files from other CAD programs, like TurboCAD?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.
