John, thanks for the info. Since I don't have any Simple Green on hand I'm trying Greased Lightnin, similar detergent, I have on hand. If it doesn't work I'll need to make a Loew's or Depot run tomorrow.

On my client's layout he had two Z-Stuff crossing signals that would not lock in the bell to ring as long as the flashers were on. I contacted Dennis at Z-Stuff and found out they had a batch reach market missing a resistor and to send them back. My client express mailed them late last Friday and I received them today. Talk about fast repair turnaround. This is typical of any dealings I've had with Z-Stuff. I strongly recommend them.
Wife is at play at Theater. Her and Jane [her best friend] have season tickets. Max [Jane's husband] and I stay home. Train time. Got several more Post Wars today by UPS.

I recall a couple of forumites discussing projects that required stripping the paint from Lionel cars, well, I've been asked to repaint a car and need to strip the original color. I was hoping that the color it is was the plastic, no such luck. I'd appreciate those of you undertaking these projects letting me know what you found best (economical) for stripping the paint from a cheap car. Thanks ya'll.
Roger, I used Simple Green on a gondola that had been painted over with about a dozen coats of flat black spray paint. After a nearly 2 weeks of soaking (put rocks in it) in a bucket of SG concentrate, I was able to remove a lot of the black spray paint from the cheap red plastic car, but not all. In addition, the white painted lettering from Lionel did not come off with the SG. I used a pencil eraser and SG to remove the white, only to find that the outlines of the letters were still visible - apparently it was stamped/painted on somehow? Also, the white paint came off, but in many areas the outline from staining from the black paint remained. Just FYI.

It is 47 degrees and foggy. Sun is suppose to come out and go up to 70 today. Looks like another nice day.
I am going to take it easy today. Have a few things to clean up outside, then I will spend some time with the trains . This afternoon, I will take a walk and maybe take some pictures of the scenery.

Morning all. Sunny and real warm. Might hit 80 today. [eat your heart out Yankees]. Talked to Douglas SKYRAY Johnson last night. He will join us if he can figure out Internet Exploreer 7.0. His new computer came with it installed. Bad stuff from all reports. I stopped MS from upgrading mine [it came up recommending for me to do that].
Now the real story on the New England Yank. Will not buy his poor kids and wife a computer at home. Spends all his money on OLD trains. Comes to work on the holiday to check the forum because he is afraid we will talk bad about him. I will talk bad about him anyway.

Got to get ready to go to lunch with politician I helped get elected. Nice of him but not necessary. Messes up the day. Think the sinus cold is better. Take meds and it goes away in about 10 days or you do nothing and it goes away in about 10 days. Got email about TCA train meet in Raleigh on Dec 17th. Usually first weekend in Dec. Why so late and close to Chirstmas? Later.

First things first, gotta say God Bless the Vets and those currently serving!!!!!!!!!!!!
Glad I checked in this morning so I am reminded to bring a train to work day. Got some work to do on the layout this morning, but I have some yard work with the tractor today for the MIL's visit. I don't mind her visit, but I have to take all the items I have stored in her spare bedroom and move them back to the train room till she leaves.
John Baker, One suggestion with regard to your space limits. Could you make a roll away layout on say 5' by 7'? I had one prior to the current project that I could roll under the bed. It may be a way for you to run the big trains. Lionel has some layouts on their website and Thor has some on his. With O27 track, you can do alot in a small space.

Headed back to NYC early Monday to install the Lionel Grand Central Terminal holiday layout. Fun trip. Hard work.
Hey! - Guess what! The news reported last night that Walmart and a lot of other department stores (remember when they were called variety stores) are going to be marketing "Christmas" this year. The backlash against the "holiday" marketing finally took hold.
Got mower out last night and mulched and bagged leaves in back yard. Ugh.

Good suggestion on the roll-away layout. Like John Baker, I lived in a place when first returning to model railroading with no extra space. I had built for me a 3 ft. by 5 ft. layout that I first used for N scale trains and then the King of Scales when I got my first 027 trainset. It had folding-table legs so I could put it down and slide it behind the couch when not in use, covered with a blanket. It was fun taking it out and then setting up everything I kept in plastic bins.

About time. Now if we could get the schools and the government to do the same. We still open our Town Board meetings with prayer and close the prayer with, "In Jesus name." Our Town Atty told us to stop it or we might get sued. I was quoted in the news as answering to her, "Let them sue us."

Laz, I missed it also. Most of the evening I was watching the Rutgers / Louisville game. That was a good game!

John Baker: 27 inches is the actual diameter of a circle of O27 track. Regular O track has a standard diameter of 31 inches I think? Anyway, thay also have sections for wider diameter circles.
If you were interested, you could easily buy a cheap folding table, or make one, and attach your track to the table, while keeping your train etc in a box in the closet. Then, just stand up the table and put your train, accessories out and you're good to go. I'm using an old dining room table with a sheet of foam insulation on it with my track tacked onto the foam. I covered the foam with some flannel fabric. I'm in my early 40's but I have slight tremor in my hands (familial or intentional tremor) that makes working with smaller gauge trains aggravating, plus the bigger O gauge trains are just really cool - they are the "right" size for me, I guess.

Laz, They just repeated it on Noon Day at 8, nice piece. Sure gave Barry some nice free advertising. Neither Barry nor Mike were in it though. I think they must have done it in the evening when the part time guys are there. I didn't know anyone who made it on the air, which isn't surprising as I never go there in the evening. Showed the Lionel coal train running and an MTH? 4-4-0 spewing smoke.

Another great place to go is right behind the point of Times Square, the Manhattan Brewery Co. you can get a "yard of beer" which is a yard long board with several different flavors of their beer. If you are with the locals, ask to have a meal in little Italy....in the Bronx. You can't go wrong with any of the places there.
