Chief, both my parents are in nursing home. Watching parents grow old and will is definitely a bummer.

I mailed out my article this afternoon with photos to Garden RR. It should get there in a couple of days. I'll let you'all know when it comes out. They actually pay you to do these things. I'm going to use the money to purchase a bass recorder and some studio equipment, as I'm into music now as well as trains and beagles.

I'm wondering who here is fortunate enough to live in the cool spot of the country.

Chief... The wife's Mother is 93 and is in an assisted nursing home. She does not like it, but it's the only way for her to live. Your Mom sounds like a carbon copy of her. Mean.

Chief : sorry about your Mom. I know it's very hard .

Chuck : congratulations on a thousand !

Trainmasters : Oh, Willard ! Yes a big yard ! Ask him if he brings trains through Ashtabula, Ohio. I may have worked with him !

Tom : Sorry about your wifes records. I remember seeing them at your house a while back . Really a nice collection, thats awful.

Well, I see the President was in Mentor today, the flood area right by Tom & Keiths house. Hope everyone gets the help they need.

Still hot here, rain coming tomorrow, still will be 85.

Thanks, John

Called Keith just now (Torpedo) to see how he and his neighbor Tom have weathered the storms and now the heat. Called earlier in the day while he was giving a student driver lessons. LOL! Had to cut the call short so they wouldn't run anymore stop signs!

Chief – Best wishes with your mom.

Roger – Dennis had emailed me a few weeks back telling me about a few Georgia folks on the forum.  I had seen Watkinsville on some forum posts, but did not make the connection.  I appreciate your offer and will be sure to let you know when I visit Watkinsville again.  I definitely saw a few things that I will need to pick up.Wink [;)]

chief,

about 6 months ago I hand-tightened the lugs on my Jeep wrangler wheel. I've done this on most cars for 32 years I've been driving. But this time, the wheel actually came off on the interstate. Fortunately, no one was hurt but the bill for fixing all the axle and other damage was about $2K

Hello All!   Mike C- Sorry to read about Luke's setback.Hope the Prune Diet helps him out. It was nice talking to Dave on the phone today & I hope the start of many more calls in the future.Dougdagroump-everyone around these parts know what Kielbasa is.(& It is not GritsBig Smile [:D]Wink [;)]) Tonight & Tomorrow we're in line for some Thunderstorms that may be severe at times. Chief,

Sorry to hear about your Mom.  Some dear friends of ours are facing the same problem, their mom lives with them, but they are affraid that should they not be home that she would turn on the stove or something and get hurt.  You need to provide assistance or have someone there all the time, but it is not easy regardless.  I will keep y'all in our prayers and pray for guideance.

Was a bit on the warm side, with the heat index, they said it was 110 after the thunderstorm.  Who knows how hot it was before the rain came.  Tough to tell how hot it gets when you stay in the AC all day.  I left the OR which is kept at 58 degrees today and into the hot sun, it was like sticking my whole body into the oven.

Tom,

Sorry to hear about the wife's loss.  I kinda still have my records but they are at my sister's house as I gave her my stereo when I left the state.  I have lots of classics from the 60s and 70s, but have not listened to any of them in over 20 years.  Take lots of photos for insurance, they can't replace the albums, but perhaps you can reclaim some of the value.

Back home.  Hit the road tomorrow after this sloooow installer finishes the ceramic tile job.  Basicly Mom has not taken her meds for over a month.  She did not want to wait in line to get them refilled.  She has not been eating right either.  She has now won a sitter for her 24/7.  This she has been refusing.  She got the law laid down on her tonight.  Hope they keep her for a few days.  Frankie is really ill with her.  He asked her about her taking her meds on Monday and she told him she was [knowing she was not].  Told her she was in "time out" for not telling the truth until today.  She was doing real good when we left.  One good thing is gas is 7 cents cheaper down there than here [which is unusual].  So fill up while I'm there.  Man, that guy has not got all the tile laid yet.  I'm sure he will finish by lunch but will have to come back on Friday to put freezer, washer and dryer back in. Goood night.

Good morning from Gettysburg.  Off today but could not sleep in.  The older I get the earlier I get up,  and the earlier I fall asleep in the chair at night.  Back in college day I never went to bed for 2 or 3 am.  Now I wake up at 5:00 even on the weekends.

Off to Lancaster/Strasburg area today.  Probably going to the TCA Museum.

Chief- good luck with your Mom. Many folks I know have been dealing with the same issues.  It is not easy for you or them when you have to "parent" your parents.

Mike C- Hope Lucas has a better day and is able to eat.

Spankybird/Tom - glad to hear your  layout worked OK.  Too bad about your wife's LP's. I have a stack of old LP's and 78's that I keep even though I don't have a way to listen to them right now.  I keep saying I am going to get a turntable a transfer some of them to digital but haven't done it yet.  Hope the flooding rains stay away.  You guys have had enough.

David - what a wild ( and expensive) ride that must have been.  That will teach us all to keep our lug nuts tight....

All that lug nut torquing that was going on got me in trouble with the Mrs.Wink [;)]Evil [}:)]Wink [;)].  She was pretty adamant that my lug nuts were tight enough.Evil [}:)]Evil [}:)]Wink [;)]

Have a great day.

Good morning all,

Good luck to all younz / yall with relatives with conditions, we all hope that God helps them and the families through all of it.

Congrats Chuck on your 1,000!

John, Ill ask him.

Buckeye, nice comment about Chiefs mom putting up with himBig Smile [:D]My 2 cents [2c]

I personally liked Jims comment about the lug nuts yesterday. It went something like "If your serious, e-mail me, ... if your just torquing my lugnuts...." that ll be a classic (may have to add that one to "favorite quotes"

Chief,

I hope everything works out alright with your mom. She sounds like a strong woman from what you've told me.

David,

I sure hope garden RR magazines pay better than model magazines. I have written many an article for those rags and basically received a stipend for doing so. One magazine didn't even pay me, then had the nerve to ask if I'd write some more!

Worked on scenery last night for a bit. Then the wife came home . . .

Potty training the boys went well last night. NO accidents! Yabba Dabba Doo!!!

Where's Doug Murphy?

Morning all.  We are enjoying the great temps as they are actually below 80, but it is only 0740, and it will be getting much warmer by 10am.  I am sending off the money for  a ZW transformer today that will complete my power needs for the forseeable future.  I also need to head to Home Depot and buy the lumber for benchwork.  I am glad to be doing the work indoors this time of year.

Have a great day,

Good Morning from Blueberryhill....

It is a humid 76 degrees and sunny. Going up to a cooler 88 today and a chance of strong thunderstorms this evening.  Then cooler.

I got the grass cut last night. It is all done for this week. Let it rain. We could use some rain.  Ground is dry.

Not too much going on today. I have a few things to do around the house and later, I will run trains for awhile. Need to clean track again. I hope the Madison set comes soon. I will post pictures of it.

I think we are going up to the Walther museum, some time this month. I wanted to go last year, but didn't make it. Looks good.

Well, off to the Dining car for breakfast. See ya later.

Y'all have a great day.

My wife was supposed to work some odd shift yesterday. 12 - 8. 8:30 came and went with no wife, so I went downstairs to work on the layout. The funny thing was, I kept thinking, now she's going to come home. Sure enough, up went the garage door at 8:45. I dutifully went upstairs with her and listened to her recount her day. A good man is hard to find. So I'm told.

Hi GIZ,

Really sticky here today.  80 and NO AIR again today.  Had to run on the treadmill, ran 4 miles this morning watching country videos.  To be another sticky HOT one here to get to 95.  Tomorrow relief?  High only 88?  Oh well got to go to the hardware store and ask for a snow shovel and see how they react?

Ran trains yesterday and contomplated about putting a set of bridges across the layout?  Still don't know about it yet.

   No GOLF today too hot.

   Happy Friday Eve!!!!!

Have a good one?  Stay cool and check on those pets in your neighborhood, keep them cool.

Greetings....from the Left Coast

Hope Lucas has a good day!

The weather has finally eased off some, its down to about 80, and the humidity has backed off some.  We are making progress again on our room.  Moved our a/c condensor to make room for the room.  Need to move hose bib, and a couple of anti-siphon valves, one electrical pull-out box, and wrought iron railing that protects the pool.  So will be a busy weekend.  A semit-annual railrodania show this weekend also, the family wants to go, but new rule.  Can't buy anything for room until the room is done.  (Need to save room for the trains).

Been working the layout with RR software, boy have I ever gotton the value from that package!  Layout drawing progressing well.  72" mainline, with 54" service lines.  Finally got the design so that trains can reverse directions for both directions on the mainline.  The 3D feature is pretty cool.

I plan on the layout being about 42" to 44" high.  So the view from our dinning room window would have the layout base right thru the midst of the window.  So I am putting a sub-level oval at the window sill height, so you don't see the bottom of the layout and wiring.  Will ultimately have a window box type scenery with the train going into tunnel portals on both sides.  Then be able to change the theme of the sub view relative to the holidays, with a Christmas village etc..

Getting more and more excited about this.   Work sure is a nuscience, it's taking to much time.

Doug, that's a lot of people in the museum in one day!!  Must have been a zoo!!

Have a wonderful day....

Don

Jim,

FYI, the Kalmbach magazines pay roughly $600 for a full-length feature BEFORE they publish the article and once it has been accepted. OGR pays  about $250 (when I checks earlier this year), and they pay AFTER it is published. OGR has 4 of my articles, one of which is 2 years old. So far, no money, no nothing from them.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and humid in SE Indiana with temps in the high 80s today.  A front is supposed to pass thru and cool things down a little.  Chief, I hope you can get your mom taken care of.  So far my folks have been in good health, but I know some day that situation will change.  I talked to Lucas this morning on the phone (I leave for work long before he wakes up), and he says he is feeling better and that he slept well.  I just hope he has a "normal" day.  Used to be I would wish for a little excitement in my life, and now all I want is "normal".  Funny how events can change your priorities.  The reason for the late post is that the computers have been down here.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C.........I know exactly what you are talking about. I was sick for 3 months, and finally went into surgery.  I was lucky to make it. Today, I am excited about sunshine and taking the dogs for a walk. The " normal " things are exciting in life. I wish the best of luck to your son, Lucas.
