Evenin' All,

Busy day today but lots o' fun. After tuesday's circus today was a real mellow stress free day at the museum. The only bad part is that you spend almost as much time in traffic as you do running trains.

Glad to hear some health issues are showing improvement, like it was said "One Day At A Time".

Got home, ate dinner and watched a long western.  Mom is settled at home and has a sitter [or sitters, as three ladies are going to take turns].  She is happy.  Has accepted the help and no driving.  Paid her bills [as I am on her account], got her meds and got groceries for her.  Ladies staying with her all can drive and will be taking her where she wants to go.

Now off to train show in a few hours.  Got to get some sleep.  Flooring project is done.  I am going to cut off door right and install threshhole.  I built up the bottom part this AM and painted it.  No rush as it has storm door to hold in AC.  Guy did get the chest freezer back in.

AH! Stopped by Miss Edna's and she gave me a new Lionel catalog.  She called me Wednesday to tell me she had one for me.  Also the Train Magizine with the NS looping the Old Fort to Ridgecrest climb in the Great Smokies.  Gooood night.

Good morning from Gettysburg.  What a gorgeous morning.  It's 61 degrees and very clear blue skies.  High temps to be about about 88 today.

Yesterday was a pretty nice day too.  Got the grass mowed and didn't die from a heat stroke.  Some friends stopped by and visited for a while.  In the evening my wife, son and I went out for some dinner.  I even got to run some trains for a while yesterday.  Had the 248 with passenger cars running on the shelf layout and a 2055 steamer pulling a box car on the lower level.  It was so noisy I could barely hear the Mrs. standing at the door telling me it was time to go.  It was great.

Today we are going to Salisbury MD to visit with a college buddy who just retired on Tuesday.  We are going to have dinner with him and his family.  It's strange to have somebody I went to college with retired.  Although,  technically I am eligible to retire.  I am sure he will be like the other folks that I know who are retired and be so doggone busy he won't know what to do.

Tomorrow my Mom and Dad are having the family over for steamed crabs.  It's sort of a tradition my Mom started when her grandkids started college.  We get together the weekend before the kids start back to school.  It's hard to believe my son is senior in college.  I know he is anxious to get back and get started.  Of course he'll be stressing out when all the exams and papers start.

Chief - Glad to hear you have your Mom settled.  I know that is a load off your mind.  You are very fortunate to be able to find three people to stay with her.

Take care,

Mitch

Hi GIZ,

Nice day here today.  Low humidity and finally shut off the air conditioner.  Save some electricity.  Went to BARRYs TRAINS in ELIZABETHTOWN, Pa yesterday, didn't see JELECTRIC there, so I don't know where he is either.  That is his hometown and he wasn't in?  Oh well probably watering tomatoe plants?  Got some 0-54 curves at the shop and talked with MIKE there for about an hour?  Not much new except for the new LIONEL catalog that I received, now I got some good reading material for the "can".  Oh yea got the latest run of O GAUGER and talk about a layout?  If you get a chance check out TONY LASH's WOW massive and cool.  Love to see that one.

MITCH enjoy your CRAB FEST.  EM EM sure sounds good.  Glad you had a good time at STRAUSSBURG, I'm going maybe next week?  I see they are having a wine and cheese train rides starting on friday nites in August.  The wife wants to do this, so I said I will go.

Have a good one?

Steve, great job on the coal tipple.  I have a set in the box, just hope I will have the room for it when I get the layout up.

Chief, good to hear your mom is better.

Watching Trains and Locomotives on RFD.  This one is the second part on the Steam service in China.  For those who were not around during the steam era, it is good to see how it was done here and is still being done there.

I "won" another auction on the Bay.  Got two Beeps, the Marines one and the Air Force one, both for 60 bucks.  Pretty good deal.  I am not sure how to slip this by the train restriction that I am on, but I can see that I will have to take the bride out for a nice dinner and let her go a bit wild with the cards, just to keep it even....just kidding.  Hope you all have a great day.

Good morning from a sunny northeastern Illinois. The bride has a lot of projects for me to do today - mostly outside - to prepare for some people coming over for dinner tomorrow. Got 10 bags of mulch to spread. I wanted to get it free from the county but the bride liked this color better. Guess I'll drag a few kids along with me while I work.

Hoping Lucas has another fine day!

Glad to hear things are getting better for everyone!

Dennis, That is a great deal on the Beeps - 2 for 1 !!

Doug (Murphy) - That's one of the big things I miss about the midwest, having enough room to have a back yard, etc.  Actually, I have always enjoyed mowing grass, here everything is cement.  The only yard we have to work is a area of maybe 20 x 30 in the front.  If I had 10 bags of mulch it would probably cover everything.

Wife and I went to see Talladega Nights last night, kinda disappointing!  Scale of 1-10, maybe a 2, too bad, was hoping it was going to be better, don't need the DVD!

Also, had meeting with the contractor putting up our patio room, It will be done by Labor Day!  Wow what a surprise!  Got a lot of preparation to do.  Changed the configuration to remove a "fire ring" to the outer deck area, proving for a significantly larger patio area.

Tomorrow we have a railroadania show tomorrow, lots of trinkets, signs, etc.  Probably will end up buying decorative stuff for the new room.

Looking for a copy of the new catalog, probably will be another week before we see it here.  Have a great day all!

Back from the JUNK show [didn't see too many CSX things or it would have been real junkyTongue [:P]].  Man, this thing is run by the old gizzers club.  I'm getting old but these guys are.....  No wonder it is not "on the move".

Don, glad you are getting the patio thing going.  Slip around those requirments and inspections. Wink [;)]

Cooler but still hot and humid.  No AC in Train Show building. Disapprove [V]  Guess I'll change clothes and mow and do a few chores.  Wife off buying a leather sofa for the lab to sleep on. Shock [:O]

Catching up after a couple days is tough on this thread!  Chief, sorry about your mom - God bless you guys.  Glad to hear Lucas is getting along okay.  Sorry to hear about the Bells Palsy as well, but at least it's expected to resolve quickly.

Enjoying the air conditioning.  Work bought us all shirts with the logo on them - long sleeve button down shirts that are very heavy.  Of course, it's about 10 gazillion degrees out.  So, then they make us wear them Friday to have out team pictures taken.  I rolled the sleeves up and unbottoned the top 3 buttons trying to keep cool.  Very annoying.  Glad that they didn't try to improve morale any more than that, or we'd probably all be dead.  The best way to improve my morale is CASH.

Went and saw Clerks II last weekend and it was great, but not for everyone, that's for sure.  So my buddy loaned me Clerks on dvd as well as Mallrats.  Watched them during the week and they were both pretty good, although I think CII was the better movie.  Sorry to hear about the new Ferrell movie - I was hoping it would be funny.

Still no word from Island Trains, so I guess Lionel missed the ship date on that docksider :(

It's back to school tax free weekend in the St. Louis area, so the wives are taking the kids out shopping for clothes and supplies.  Dave and I got together with his brother John last night and watched the Mallrats dvd and ate some pizza -- good guy time.

Well, the lawn is a disgrace after the hot weather and rain we've had, so probably have to get on it this afternoon/evening.  My aunt and uncle are in town, though, so need to go see them.  Uncle Bill was an engineer on a bomber in WW2 and made runs over Germany.  Very interesting guy!  Everybody take it easy!

PS - a friend at work gave me a 50 page PDF file on building power supplies after I was complaining about my CW80 acting erratically.  It looks cool, but I'm afraid it's beyond me at this point.  Maybe I'll go by radioshack on of these days and see if they have some basic electronic training materials....

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Hey Steve, how much would you charge to build one of those?  Shipping would be a problem.  I guess it could be shipped in sections that could be glued together??????

Hi guys,

Just got back from a weeks vacation in Ocean City, MD.  I think the pot was on about page 950 when I left and I haven't read all of the back pages yet.  Anyone care to fill me in on the highlights?  It was one HOT week at the beach. No rain at all.  Flies were a big pain the last 3 days as the wind was blowing from inland.

Hope everyone is well, will check in tomorrow and try to catch up on what I missed.

Good evening all,

It is dark and cooler in SE Indiana with temps in the 70s the rest of the evening.  Lucas was feeling well enough that my wife and I were able to see the "Pirates of Carribean" II tonight.  It was a good movie.  There are a lot of darkly lit scenes in it, but it was still fun to see.  We did housework today and Friday night I mowed the yard.  One of the John Deeres had a broken axle, so I rolled out the spare.  Saturday I took it to get it fixed as it is still under warranty.  I had to go get a part for the trimmer as well.  I plan to watch the Brickyard at Indy on TV Sunday and take life easy for once.  Chief, I am glad to hear your mom is settled in.  I saw a recipe for sweet iced tea in a Martha Stewart column.  Again thank you everybody for your thoughts and comments about Lucas.  I hope everybody had a good day today and a better one tomorrow.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Stopped at The Hobby Station in Kirkwood on the way home from my parents (edited out the whining).  Anyway, my daughter really loved the store - they have an overhead train set up that is very nice, I think it's a G gauge, with dolls in the cars.  They didn't have the new Lionel catalog - I guess they were already all taken.  They had the Cascade train set, which I have been wanting and to be honest I was halfway thinking of buying it, but they had it marked at about $269 I think and that seemed to be about $60 to $70 too much.

Good Morning from Blueberryhill...

It is a sunny 72 degrees. Going up to 89 and a chance of a thunderstorm this afternoon.  Hope not.

Well, today is looking like a quiet day. Hopefully. It's very pleasant to sit in the shade and enjoy peace and quiet. I have a few things to do outside, this morning and then watch the NASCAR race from Indianapolis.  That always, is a good race from the Brickyard.

Not too much from the train scene. Those Madisons look nice behind the GG1. I will get a couple more in due time. Now, I need to work on the layout and scenery. I have some ideas.

I am off to the Dining car now. I will be back later

Y'all have a great day.

Afternoonn all.  Marty E, have a safe flight home.  My next trip is not until the first week in Oct.  Bosie ID by way of Salt Lake City.  Then in the first week in Nov, Ft Myers FL.  Got to start training trips in all of that.  That will include Macon Ga and San Antonio TX.  Seems good to be home some even though I've had a hectic schedule lately.

Hot and humid.  In-laws are coming for dinner.  Got to make lots of sweet ice tea.  Wife cooked big breakfast [eggs, GRITS, boiled apples from our tree, sliced tomatoes and sausage].

Been reading a document on the history of Roseyville.  Found some interesting facts in the history of Rolesville.  No one ever told us that our house sits on the site of the original Roles house [built by a Mitchell in 1745 and bought by William H Roles in 1817] and Stagecoach Inn.   This was located on the stagecoach road from Petersburg VA to Fayetteville NC.  There was a cemetery on the edge of our lot that several people were buried, including Roles' first wife.  Suppose to have been moved. Humm ????  Rolesville was the second largest slave market in the US [New Orleans was the largest].  That I had been told.  All the stores [attached wooden structures] burned one night in 1913.  Closest railroad was the Raleigh Gaston RR [which is now the CSX] in Wake Forest.  A railroad was built from the big quarry [2 miles from town] north to connect with the CSX.  Now abandoned with the quarry.  The roadbed still exists in a lot of places.  Some folks have used the road bed as their drives to their houses.  Makes a very solid drive.  No battles during the War of Northern Agression were fought on the soil of Rolesville.  There was a special house that housed the wounded or deserting Yankee soldiers.  Even though the Rolesville folks were of the Confederacy, they were humane to the Yanks.  This little house still stands in the downtown part of Rolesville.  There are some interesting notes on how the folks of Rolesville handled the Carpetbaggers.  The William H. Roles line basicly died out.  He moved [but kept his land holdings here] to Mississippi and died.  His second wife and girls returned here and she remarried.  His only son was killed and burried in Mexico during the Mexican War.  No Roles lives in this area.

This is like so many more areas around the USA.  I'm from Edgecombe Co. in eastern NC.  The town of Crisp was going to be named Eagles but the Postal Service asked them not to do that as there were several Post Offices back then with Eagle/s in the name.  The Eagles family owned the store, saw mill and most of the farm land in that part of the county.  The Eagles family established and built Eagles Baptist Church.  Eagles Rd. runs through my farm.  Mom is the last Eagles that lives there.  A lot of us own the land but all moved away.  When she passes, no Eagles will be living there.

Tom, hang in there.  Seems more little things have popped up here since I'm not traveling and making extra $$$$$.   Good Lord will not give you more than you can handle.

Later.

Laz, The town hasn't changed a whole lot. It seams every year they tear down an older building or hotel and put up a new one, but there are still a lot of older ones there. Our family started vacationing there when I was about 10 (57 years ago) and my wife and I have been going just about every year since we have been married.

David, Thanks for the twenty page summary. Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg] Smile,Wink, & Grin [swg]

Hope to get down to LHS this week to pick up another DCS set. Hardly ever use the TMCC to run locos anymore, just to control switches. I'm adding a power block and need another TIU so am getting the set so I will have another hand held unit as well. Now grandson and I can both run trains at the same time without any collisions. I HOPE. Blush [:I]
