Greetings...

It's 98 in the Northern Neck of VA. Humidity is a bit better today than recently, but still
nasty. Got up early, did some PM on the Fire Engine. Went inside later to run trains in
the basement. (Cool, fun and wanted to try out those accessories I mentioned in an earlier
post.).

As if I'm not insane enough...Tomorrow I take delivery of ANOTHER fire engine! At least
this one will be a "RTR out of the box" where as the first one has been pretty much a rehab
and restoration project. (Ya GOTTA have more than one of ANY toy!) Big Smile [:D]

Starting to get towards the time I make a "wish list" for York. Mostly parts this time for
the PreWar stuff I'm overhauling in my collection. Some worn out wheels and couplers
need replacing also. Have a few "projects" to make out of scrap cars. Maybe will do a
few "items that Lionel never made".

Good Afternoon Everyone !! Just got back from vositing with Tom at the museum !! Boy, did I have a good time, just wish I could get up there more often ! Tom still has more stuff to clean from the flood. I'm glad it didn't rise up to his layout, he said it would have been all lost. It got all the extra stuff under the layout. I have some more pictures of the benchwork, & the start of the S gauge benchwork being built above the O- gauge. Plus I have a video of Tom running a train on some track of the new layout, for down the road !!

Good to see Colin  back !! Happy B-Day [bday]

Well, now to run my new MPC, RDCs I just picked up & take some pictures !!

Thanks, John

Cool pix - I'm emailing them to a friend who's a Civil War nut in SC.

Happy birthday, Colin!  Sounds like a great game system!

It's about a zillion degrees and humid in Arnold.  My wife took the kids to the zoo earlier, but they are back now.  I went with a friend to see Clerks II - very funny and totally inappropriate!

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Good afternoon everyone.

hope y'all are having a great day.  Getting ready to head back to church tonight.  I'm working the lights again.  I will be clearing out the train room to begin benchwork tomorrow.  I spoke with Doug from the Train Station to order the track for the layout.  Once the invoice is checked for accuracy, the order will  be placed and I will soon be laying track.  Problem with Fastrack is that it is not as forgiving, so I will have to be accurate for my trackbed and benchwork.  It will be nice to have trains running again.

Take care and God Bless,

Dennis

Bob Mitchell,

This is that little train shop you told me about. The store is at 305 Buford Avenue in Gettysburg. The back of the store, I think, is somewhere in central Ohio. Thanks for the tip. The place was loaded.

Best Regards, Ken

Good evening, everyone!

Good to hear that your layout is alright, Tom!

Happy Birthday, Colin!

Well, the Melville train show was yesterday.  I had a great time, but will say that I was disappointed in the small number of exhibitors at the show.  Besides my display, there was a large Christmas villiage display (complete with a full-sized tree) running a New Bright Christmas set (the high-end electric one, not a battery operated set), a display of some railroad memorabilia which included a full-size velocipede, a guy with a whole bunch of really nice brass HO models displayed lined up on his table, a dealer in new HO stuff and a booth for Transport 2000 (a passenger rail lobby group).  With the exception of the guy with the brass, all the exhibitors participating in the show were people I had met before exhibiting at the Regina and Moose Jaw shows.  Apparently there had been more exhibitors signed up for the show (I'm not sure how many), but they had dropped out for one reason or another.  Hopefully there will be more people next year.  15 years ago, Melville had had a very large train show, but for whatever reason they quit having it.

As with any train show, one of the best parts is the people that you meet.  The vintage trains on my display usually prompt several people to comment that they had something simmilar when they were a kid.  I provided one man with a Marx transformer so he could run his childhood set whose transformer didn't work well.  One man said that he had some kind of a tin train set at home (which he compared to a prewar German set of mine) that he'd be happy to part with and promised to find it and bring it over, but unfortunately he didn't come back.  Everyone exhibiting at the show got one of those spikes with a pewter train sitting on it with a plaque engraved with "Melville Saskatchewan 2006" on it, which was very nice!

Tomorrow I'm heading into Yorkton for an optometrist appointment.  Just a regular visit to see if my eyes have changed and if I need a new prescription for my contacts.

Wow, my buddy Colin has grown up. For tomorrow Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday]Happy B-Day [bday]  Big Smile [:D]  Man, you can tell the difference in his posts too.  Congrats to you, Colin.

Not much happening here.  Too hot and humid.  Going to Mom's tomorrow with Frankie to do some house work outside.  Don't know how much we will do.  Hotter tomorrow.  Got to come back and cut up some big limbs for widow lady down the street [from the storm the other day].  Been to the pond.  Trying to "train" the fish to come to fish food broadcasted over the pond.  Got a few to respond tonight.  Eventionally they will catch on.  When they do, they will churn up the water.

Later.

Steve, Thanks for looking. That's the one I've been looking for. When I did a "Google" search I found the same source, unfortunately I know nothing about that shop.

Anybody have any input on "Old & Weary Car Shop" in Tappan NY. Question [?]

Chief, it is the same up here. I was sawing away some branches on the pear tree out front, and I felt like I was just going to faint, and fall right off of the ladder I was standing on. Luckily I didn't, which is a good thing.  My sister's sleepover was cancelled becuase my dad had vertigo, but he is feeling much better. They are coming over next Sunday, so it will all be fine.

I went to the car show on main street yesterday which is just down the street from me. There were a lot of Vettes, TBirds, Chevelles, Challengers, Mustangs, and a lot of others. There were only 4 GTO's, which was a little dissapointing, and only 1 442 OLDS Convertible, which was a little dissapointing as well. My favorite car was there. It was a 1965 Corvette Stingray Convertible, Torch Red, with a black interior, a 4 speed manual, and a 427. All original, and matching numbers. It was in pristine condition.

Good Morning!

We are back from our New Hampshire vacation, and I for one am eager to fall back into the regular routine. Two weeks of Africa-like heat and humidity. The cottage wasn't air conditioned, so at least once a day, I'd take off for a long car ride to cool off with AC. Visited a few train stores and saw a nice Lionel 665 for $125. I went back towards the end of my vacation to buy it, but someone had beaten me to it.

The kids had a great time. All are brown little berries who never seemed to tire of jumping off the dock into Lake Ossipee. We had a very relaxing time. Something about that mountain air made the kids sleep until 7:30 every day. It sure was nice!

When we got back, we noticed that a tree in our yard had been hit by lightning. Fortunately, it fell away from the house. Nature beat me to it, as I was going to cut it down soon anyway. Been a screwey summer for weather and storms. I hope my friends in Ohio are doing ok. I heard about the flooding. I can sympathize with you. Back in May, much of our area was flooded and many people lost everything. You Ohio folks are in my thoughts.

Good morning all,

It is hot, humid and miserable in SE Indiana with temps and humidity in the 90s today.  I got out of the car after driving in this morning and the humidity just about knocked me over.  Tmcc man, I do not think I will ever forget your birthday as my new grandson was born at 1:15 AM.  He weighs 8 pounds and 11 ounces and is 21 inches long.  This was from the daughter for whom I had made an earlier prayer request to the gang in the "coffeepot" when she was having problems with the pregnancy.  It looks as if everyone's requests were answered as both mother and son are doing ok.  Lucas ate well yesterday and even played a game of Risk, but he still gets tired easily.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

Good Morning from Blueberryhill............

It is 72 degrees and sunny. Going up to 93 today and sunny. Humid. This afternoon will be very hot.

Colin...Happy Birthday.

They are predicting more rain for Northern Ohio this week. The Weather Channel is showing video from Mentor and other areas. Looks bad.

I am doing a few outside things this morning and will be inside this afternoon working on a project. Love A/C. This evening will be outside again, watching the sun set.  We have had rain predicted for several days but have not had rain of any measurable amount. The ground is getting dry.

Well, I'm off to breakfast in the Dining car. Talk later.

Y'all have a great day.

Happy B-Day [bday]Happy Birthday to Colin and to the grandson of Mike C.  Hope y'all have a great day.  Colin, make sure you have plenty of Sweet Tea before going  to do any of the outside work in this heat.

Not much going on down these parts.  Wife is working today, so I will have to wait till tomorrow to get on the benchwork.  I can hardly wait to get the trains a rollin.  I have a little idea to keep my son's interest, and probably my daughter's as well into the trains.  I am planning on having a G scale Thomas set that will run on a track lower than the main table that will loop around and go through some tunnels.  I will put the Automatic Gateman and any other grossly oversized accessories on this area.  That way I can use all my stuff and still have the layout looking somewhat real.

Have a great day,

Dennis

I'm wrapping up my article and photos for my Garden RR magazine today. I'm putting a photo of Scratch B Rules' Tower. It's not this photo but a much better one I'm submitting. Can someone please tell me his name. His first name is Al but I forget his last name. He's from New Hampshire, but I can't get his last name from his profile. I emailed him as well. Thanks.

David,

if not mistaken, he moved to FLA sometime last year.

Speaking of New Hampshire. While vacationing there the past 2 weeks, I had ample time to read many, many back issues of Model Railroader, which were $.50 each at one of the train stores I visited up there.

For the most part, I enjoyed them. I even learned a thing or two. But there was a lot of stuff that made me realize why I love O gauge so much. The lengths these guys go to accurately model a particular line, railroad, time and date is psychotic! Waybills, fast clocks, car cards, etc. "I only model August 3rd, 19 ought 4 at precisely 3:59 PM". Or they study the internal workings of a meat packing plant, (then write all about it) to find out what kind and how many of each car they need for that "industry" on their layout.

All of those articles had an almost snobbish tinge to them. "I'm more correct than you are" attitude seemed to come through. Like they are all rail road scholars or something. It made me want to rush home and open the throttle on my unabashedly non-prototypical roundy round loops and watch our non-scale trains fly around the curves at a breakneck speed. The new issue of CTT was waiting at home for me and what a relief to open a magazine and see out of scale accessories and unweathered rolling stock!

Thanks, Jim.

The joy of this forum and toy trains is that you can have your layout way in scale or way out of scale and no one will call you names and curse your relatives.

BTW, everyone's model railroad is out of scale and incorrect. Just don't tell that to the rivet counters!

Thanks all for the Happy Birthday Wishes, but sadly, I didn't get anything with flanges. I just got back from a Hobby shop, and there were so many things that caught my eye, I just couldn't settle on one thing. I had my eye on the Chessie Diesel Freight (out of price range, but I still tried), the N&W Hi Hood C420, the NYC GP30, the CSX GP 30, as well as a few others. Talk to you guys later,

Evening all.  Hot humid day down east.  Did get to the buffet with bar-be-que, fried chicken and chicken slick [to you Yankees, chicken pastry].  Plenty of sweet ice tea.  Did a lot of work for Mom [Grand Mom for Frankie as he helped a lot].  Got home late.  He conned me in to driving into Raleigh this AM to meet him at the county garage so he could leave his patrol car.  Had to drive back into Raleigh this evening to drop him off [it was ready].  Found a little box from a Yankee.  In it was something I had been wanting ever since I saw them in an article in CTT.  I had even tried to trace one down and was told to search EBay.  This is a prize I will cherish.  Thank You Yankee !!! [There are a few good Yankees.  Very few.Wink [;)] ]  Now to rest and drink more tea [Dehydrated].
