Buckeye is in Columbus at his desk.  He is trying to fool everyone.  Buckeye is the B in BS. Wink [;)]

Morning all.  Apitz has not checked in.  He is still at the lake but was coming home to be sure his house had not been stolen. Shock [:O]Smile [:)]  Guess he will be bringing his BROWN berries back home. Big Smile [:D]

Got meeting with County guy at town hall in a few.  Guy coming by to measure for ceramic tile for utility room is on the way.  "Why don't I do it myself?"  Could but then they move the washer, dryer and CHEST freezer.  Also, Lowes guarntees the work.  Cracks, they fix or redo.  I have to do threshold and cut off door.

Never serviced truck.  Need to get that done.  Been so humid after the rain.  So thick it looks like smoke or fog here.  Ground hog is hiding.  No sign of him. ????  No tracks in and out of his borrow.  Maybe he got the word. Shock [:O]

Good morn from sunny, hot northeastern Illinois. I survived the teen birthday party - was surprised at how little they ate - all the boys in football and the girls in track - guess they eat healthier than the nine pizzas I had around. Plenty of good junk food for me. The girls are worse than the boys - in instigating things like spraying water on ea. other; throwing birthday cake at one another - outside.Called the city on a street light being out - boy, were they in a bad mood today. One more day to leave for camp.

Good afternoon,

Chuck, It is good to hear that you are feeling good again.

Laz, I guess Spanky Bird is busy on the museum layout.

Mike C., Thanks for the update on Lucas and future grandson.

Doug, (from the left coast)  I ordered two of the K-line reefers from Davis trains for $25.00 each.  The LHS has them on the shelf for $52.95!

Chief, Thanks for the recipe, I will probably have to use canned Okra as I have never seen fresh for sale around here.

Keep cool,

Good afternoon, all!

Hot, humid and hazy in Prattville today. Just your average summer day in Dixie. We've had some cooler temps in recent days with the cloud cover but the sky is clear and the sun is shining full force.

My mother's alzheimers has taken a turn for the worse. She seldom recognizes my father any more. Most days she knows me, but not all the time. Oddly enough, she always recognizes my wife. I am glad we moved them up here last year. It makes life a lot easier for all of us.

School starts back here in less than two weeks. My wife is a school nurse at the junior high school and started back to work this week. She's got a new (larger) office which makes her happy.

Have a good one!

Afternoon all.  Been "off line" for a while.  Big Tstorm rolled through.  No warnings from NWS.  Straight line winds has sent my big oak tree limbs into the sidewalk and street.  Just came in from a quick look over and everything seems OK.  Lots of lightning.  Some close.  All electrical OK.  Did drop cable, and phone service [cable digital] for a few minutes.  Regular phone service is out [buddy here in town called me].  Fire trucks have been out several times.  So far, 1.5 inches of rain.  Thunder around everywhere.  Think we are out of the bad stuff now.  Better go check pond later more for tree and limbs down than water problem].  Bet that filled her back up [she was about 3 inches low yesterday].  Had great dinner [excuse me, lunch for you Yanks] meeting.  Started raining aroudn the time we left restaurant.  Nothing done this PM.

John, would ship you some okra if it would survive. Wink [;)]

Dr, John, sorry to hear that but it is what happens.  At least you know this and not sudden like a stroke or something like that.  Sad anyway.  Praying for you and the family. Sad [:(]

Later.

Chief,

Thanks! We enjoy the good days with Mom and make it through her bad days by God's grace. Smile [:)]

Liked your soup recipe. Sheryl makes a similar soup. We add a few different beans too, depending what's on hand or add some cabbage. Always have the tomatoes, okra and onions though. Looking forward to cooler weather - she won't make soup when it's hot weather! Sad [:(]

Dr. John, Alzheimers seems to become more common all the time.  I guess it is because we are living longer.  Both my brother in law and my father in law have it.  My brother in law is only 76 and is at the point where my sister can barely take care of him.  Not something to look foreward to.

Your schools must start very early.  The schools here start on August 28th, so still a month to go.  When our kids went to school they always started 2 days after labor day.

Hot and humid here also, didn't look at the thermometer, but it has to be about 85.  Been running about that for weeks.

Both Trains Magazine and Model Railroader came in todays mail.  Good weekend reading.

John,

Yes, I agree that our longevity has a lot to do with the seemingly higher number of alzheimers patients. Of course, when I was a kid, the just called it "going senile."

I don't understand why they start school so early in Alabama. It has been creeping toward the first of August for several years. Seem crazy when it's so hot and the schools will have higher power bills to run the AC. When I was in school, we didn't have AC but we didn't start until well after Labor Day.

To change the subject, I noticed that Michael's already has their Halloween Lemax structures and accessories in stock with a 25% off sale (at least here in Prattville). I'm not into Halloween layouts but I know several of you guys are. I do like the Lemax fall trees that come out this time of year. I'll probably get a few before they switch over to the Christmas stuff next week. Wink [;)]

Good Evening Everyone !! Rained most of the day here. At least we got done this morning before it started !  Glad tomorrow's Friday !! The big news is, sometime this wekend, I should be picking up my set of MPC RDC BUDD cars ! I always wanted a set of these, though I know the Postwar ones would be more collectible, but these will at least give me some passenger service now. Plus, something to take some new pictures of !! They are in mint condition I think, so later on I want to make them command controlled too, if there's enough room in them. I wonder, does anyone know if they have a horn in them ? I never thought to ask him that !

Glad Chuck feels so much better now !!

Sorry to hear about Dr. John's Mom. My Dad had Parkinsons, but that, I don't believe, would be as bad as Alszeimers.

So, Buckeye is in Cincinatti, Ha ? !!  Glad he's up here in the "Good Old SAFE North" !!Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D]Big Smile [:D] (just kidding!)

Hope everyone has a nice night !

Thanks, John

It's been another bright and hot day here and more of the same expected tomorrow.  With tomorrow being my day off I guess that means being out before sun up to get the outdoor work done before the sun gets above the tree line.

Received my copy of the fall "Classic Trains" this afternoon.  After thumbing through it it looks like another winner.  It'll give me sonmething to read during the heat of the day and for several evenings.

Talking about school, our county goes back on Aug. 7, the granddaughters aren't too happy about that.  One county near Atlanta that's on a year round schedule went back this past week, no summer for those kids.  If memory serves me right we used to get out just after Memorial Day and didn't go back till after Labor day.

Have a good evening all.

John - it must be hard with your mother having alzheimers.  I keep thinking with my mom turning 70 there will be a time where her health deteriorates.  I cannot imagine or comprehend what it feels like and always wonder where I will find the strength to pull thru, trying to help.  I just wish they could find a cure for diseases like alzheimers.  I worked with a buddy, and his dad had alzheimers.  He would tell me that his dad would not recognize him.  I always thought that would be very hard.

God bless.

Hot today and supposed to be hotter this weekend, but storms tomorrow - yeah!  They now say that 7 tornados hit the St. Louis area last week.  About 30,000 still don't have power.  Everybody I know has power back except the lady who lost her roof.  Meanwhile, my friend's daughter had brain surgery while the storm was raging.  Thank God the power at the hospital was okay!

Dennis and Dr. John, thanks for info on Lemax Sale!  Too bad, I hope the 25 percent off isn't going here, because I aleady have 2 coupons for 40 percent off and I'd rather get 40 percent than 25 percent, that's for sure!  I saw that Munsters train - I think DougNotAGrump sent it to me?  It looks cool, but I think we figured it would cost about $350 plus on the subscription plan....  Probably too pricey for me this year with all the dental bills and unexpected babysitter costs since they cancelled work-at-home.

Praying for Dr. John, Mike and Chuck - God bless guys!

Chief - got any recipes for rattlesnake?

The Rains  have come and so has the flooding. Our county is in a State of Emergency with may roads closed and flooded. Our basement was also flooded with 6” of water. Not once, but 3 times.

We would get one big storm come thru and the sub-pump could not keep up with the water. Once the strom would pass, the water would subside and we would start cleaning. Then the power went out and another storm and more water. Power came back on, and the water would go down, then another storm and more water.

WE have recieved over 12" of rain in less than 12 ours. We even made the Weather Channel.

Wow - 12 in. of rain in 12 hours.  I don't think there would be any basement that would stay day!  There must be some major flooding just like what happened on the east coast.  I wouldn't even think a battery backup sump pump would help with that much rain.

Is you layout in the basement?

Thanks,

Dan

Good Morning from Blueberryhill........

It is 74 degrees and light rain. Going up to 80 today. Rain.

Tom....Sorry to hear about your flooding. Wondered where you were. I wish you the best of luck, and hope it stops raining by you. I saw a few minutes of the coverage on the Weather Channel. Looked bad.

Today is a slow day. I have a few things to do. Wife is going out to lunch with her niece. I heard last night that the " ship " came in and I will be getting my 2 car Madison set in a few days. Great. They must be popular. I have to start working on the layout, on rainy days. Got a lot to do yet.

I will run trains for awhile today. Need to do some dusting. Looks good on the steamers, but not the diesels.

Off to the Dining Car, for breakfast. Talk more later.

Y'all have a great day. Hope Tom does too !!!!!!!!

Good morning all,

It is rainy and muggy in SE Indiana with temps heading to the 80s today.  Dr. John, I am sorry to hear about your mother-in-law's battle with Alzheimer's.  Friends of ours recently went through that with her mother, and my own mother-in-law passed away 17 years ago yesterday after a long struggle with it.  At least with the situation with Lucas, there is some hope for a cure.  I hope someday there will be one for both Lou Gehrig's disease and Alzheimer's.

Thursday was a bad day for Lucas.  He is very tired, and he does not want to eat much.  He does not want even to watch TV.  He went to bed at 8:30 PM.  Today is the last batch in the first round of five per week infusions so maybe he will be perky by next week.  One of his friends asked to go with him today so we will see how that goes.  People in town are sending lots of cards, which really help.

No baby yet, either.  I may go down to Bloomington Saturday to mow the grass for them if time permits.  Anybody who lives near Greensburg may want to mosey down town Saturday as there will be a huge car show there.  They are hoping for over 1,000 entries, which they almost had last year.

Spankybird, I know what you mean about the rain.  We have not had quite as much as you, but it has been steadily raining here the past 24 hours.  I hope it stops before the car show.

I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Mike C. from Indiana

yep - layout is in the basement. The layout and trains look ok. May have lost some of the accos. transformers that were on the floor. Have lost alot of boxes with extra parts in  it.

The video on the TV is unbeliveable. They were swiming in the parking lot of Wal-Mart by my house.

Tom, sorry to hear about the rain problems but, look on the bright side.  With your layout building skills you and the museum gang can start on an ark.  Even though I don't have a basement I put in a sump pump in the crawl space due to ground water flow during heavy rains and I have a generator should the need occure. Our daughter in Md. has a water problem and they have a second battery powered sump pump as a backup that will last several hours, might be worth looking into.

I accomplished my outdoor tasks for the day, I was able to put in the 15 edging blocks I picked up yesterday and was back inside drinking my second cup of coffee as the sun crested the tree line.  Once it reached where I was working the humidity and heat took off like a rocket.

Just before sitting down I happened to look out the front window and our deer herd was out front.  It must be the time for weening the youngsters, one wanted to nurse and mom wanted nothing to do with the young one.

Think I'll spend some time planking the barn I'm building for the layout.

Have a good day all.

    Chuck, Buckeye, et al.

Speaking of Cambridge, OH,  it looks like my family will be relocating there (Some job details left to be resolved for my wife)  from West Lafayette, IN.  Will I be eligible for Ohio meetings and field trips with my fellow model railroaders?  I'd love to have some fellowship and socializing about trains.
