Need to clarify about the CTT York badges. Last Oct. CTT did not pass any out until Friday morning. Also, remember CTT will be in the Orange hall (where Atlas used to be) this time unless they get moved again. Last Oct, CTT was in the Brown hall.

Hey Chief,
I once took the Autotrain up from Florida. After my car, which was locked in the car carrier of the train, but for which they keep your keys, was returned to me...pilferred of the coin collection and other fast grab items. I do hope to take one of the Amtrack trains again, but keeping my valuables with me. I hear the tour trains are very safe and the crew are good.

Hi All,
Had a short, but nice chat with Keith (1688 torpedo). Sorry to have been as short Keith, my bride was washing her hair and I had two crumb snatchers biting at my ankles.
Keith is being so kind as to help me with parts aquisitions on my project engine. I find him to be a gentleman, even though he doesn't eat GRITS. I look forward to chatting some more with him. I mention all this here as for those who may be new to this forum, you will find a number of exceptional people here who go above and beyond to help each other. It is a great community to be a part of.
Thanks to Keith, and thanks to everyone who make this a special place.

Chief, for a railroad bridge to be declared unsafe is a rare event. The rail bridges in this country were originally designed for the massive weights of steam engines. Was the bridge involved in a derailment? Did you heavy rains scour out the foundations beneath the piers? Did you pour grits on the bridge accelerating it corrosion problem?

I know this is the place to send interesting comments about your days, good, bad and in between. Yesterday I had a good day and I thought I would share it with you. Bennett Springs is a Missouri State trout fishing Park in the Ozarks area of MO.

I wanted to go to Bennett Springs to fish for trout in April because I really love the area at that time of the year. The Red Buds and Dogwoods are blooming and you can see them salt and peppered in the forests because pretty much everything else is just now beginning to awake. I left KC at 4 AM, arrived around 7:30 AM and was in the water by 8 AM. It was a beautiful day as well, blue skies, warm and no crowds. I caught 11 trout before 1 PM between the Spring and the big pool at the first water fall, but stayed away from the popular big pool as I usually do. It was not crowded being a Wed in April. After a brief lunch break, I caught 3 up at the Spring. All 14 were caught on white, black, and salmon colored jigs. Fishing slowed down in the afternoon as usual so I went down to the big falls. I went there on a lark just to throw some jigs. Nothing for about 2 hours. I planned to return the the spring area from 5 PM until close and use dry flies for the evening hatch. But I decided to stay down stream from the falls and caught 16 trout from about 6 PM until close, all on dry flies that I had tied! I released them all for another day. My gear of choice is a 9 ft. 5 weight fly rod.

On a train note, I did build another back drop building elevation that resembles an old decaying barn. If I get my friends digital camera, I will post a photo in the future.

Well I couldn't resist. [:D] I stopped at Model RR shop in Frederick, MD called Frederick Junction today. He had a RMT BEEP decorated in Western Marland colors. At first I left without it and then was kicking myself for not buying it. My sweet wife insisted that I go back and get it. What a sweet little engine for $59.95. It ran like a charm and pulled a short train with about 8 modern cars. I might look for one of the RMT RDC units at York.

On the way back home I stumbled upon a Hobbytown USA. Pretty nice train selections and some really neat other hobby suff. They had a really big RC track in the back. I will definitely have to go back there.

Good night.

mickey4479, That is outstanding fishing. [:)]

Story on Chuck, still in hospital. Hopes to get out tomorrow. May have to go back in a couple of weeks and have a lung operation. Infection so bad they may open it up and clean it out. [:(] He's a lot better than he was before going. [:)]

Bridge, may be open tomorrow to allow traffic. They are working around the clock. No rain*, no derailment and no grits. This is the main line between NY and Florida. Lots of heavy trains cross it.

*Rain, what is that? We are in a major drought. We've had showers but none of the winter and spring rains we usually have. Almost 7 inches behind. May hit 90 Saturday and Sunday.

Sleep tight.

My foamboard welcome sign/platform came out so well, I've decided to make a similar one for the station. It will replace the MDF one that is currently being used, and match up much better.

Have had quite a painful lower back for the past several days. Not muscle, but bone. I broke my tailbone about 12 years ago, and before that, fell several times on my can while skating. I saw stars a few times. I think it's all catching up to me now and is most likely arthritis. My wife gave me one of her heating pads and boy, what a difference! The pain just goes away like magic.

We are going to my wife's cousin's house for Easter. Huge gathering of the whole family. Big Easter egg hunt for the kids. Fortunately, the weather is supposed to be pleasant enough to go for a nice walk after dinner.

Wishing everyone a Happy Easter.

And here's a bunny for BB the beagle.

(He weighs in at 22 pounds and measures a little over 3 feet. he is a breed of rabbit called German Giant (how appropriate!). this is his owner, Hans Wagner, struggling to hold him up. from the NY Post article: We don't feed him an unusual diet said Wagner. He goes through more than his brothers and sisters, but he eats the same food mix. His favorite food is actually lettuce. He can never get enough of it.)

David, I sure love seeing your photos of your honeymoon.. No way that's a real rabbit.. Sunny and warm here in Chicago.
Mickey, that's great fishing. Show us a photo of your new Beep. Jim, I'm sorry about your back - that's a tough injury. My wife is only now getting back to normal. Show us a photo of your signs. I managed to mangle my sign for Mt. Seaman big time. We're going to be by ourselves this Easter - wife's birthday went well - ended with taking her out to dinner to a spot we never go because it's so pricey. Today is middle boy's birthday - he's twelve. Going to go to the Schwin store to get him a new bike. Yep, an expensive month.

Good Morning All:

Another beautiful day in Chicagoland. Looking forward to a busy Easter weekend.

Jim:

Sorry to hear about your back. I can sympathize. I had hurt my back working on one of my LGB engines (long story, no need to elaborate). Hang in there.

David:

That is some rabbit! That looks like the rabbit from the most recent Wallace and Grommit movie.

Mickey:

As my Dad always says: There is no such thing as a bad day when you are fishing.

Regards,

John

Tom, Doug, John,

Get a load of the size of its feet. Those look suspiciously like those "Big Foot" prints. I bet Big Foot is just a giant rabbit.

Doug,

Glad to hear that your wife's birthday was a good one. If you need some signs made for your layout, give me a call. I can make them and mail them to you. I make mine to be peel-and-stick. All the signs on my layout are home made. It's not a big deal at all.

Jim makes great signs. Now tell the truth about the back. Old man like you trying to keep up with young wife. [;)]

BB will have lots of fun this weekend. Chasing all the Easter Bunnies. [:D]

A few chores to da and then plant garden plants and off to pond to fish. [:D]

Chief - no comment!

The heating pad made an enormous difference with my back. Feels pretty good now. I'll bet if I use it each day, I'll see good results.

Very cool Shay - I'd love to get one of those someday!

Jim - my friend Jeff has degenerative disc disease and he says you should use icepaks, not heating pads, for the best results. Plus, I think he also recommended Bourbon and Coke?

Siding guys are here today. The roof crew was from Guatemala. These guys are from Shri Lanka or something. Sure are working hard. Again, they said they'll have to come back tomorrow as well. My house looks kinda small in front, but it is pretty much a big square - about 1500 sq ft plus garage. Anyway - bang bang BANG! All day.

I work for the Fed, but took annual leave today since the kids were off school. We finished another Harry Potter lego building for our layout - Knockturn Alley. Bought it used from an adult collector. Had to get the instructions from a seller on bricklink. I'll bet by next year we have the entire collection at this rate! Need more track for the train though. I'm thinking of getting some of the technic/robot stuff and making some animated stuff, like a water tower etc. I wonder what it would take to make a lego/technic shay with moving gears?

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Mitch that WM Beep looks good: glad you went back - good for your bride to encourage it! Well, the youngest is sick - boy, is it quiet around here when he's ill. So I've been sitting with him whilst he watches PBS...poor little guy. After the daughter came home from track to be with him, I went out and got the birthday boy a cake and his big gift - a new bike. I spent the most money on a bike ever - wow, some sort of fancy BMX thing.
Jim, my wife's alternated heat and ice - whatever felt good - and rest. I'll email you for advice about the signs. I may make some trees while sitting with the youngest.
Can't wait to hear from the Yorkies...

Doug - Sorry to hear about your little one. It's no fun when they are sick. Hope the Birthday Boy enjoys his new bike and avoids the illness. The only thing worse than being sick on your b'day is being sick on Christmas.

Enjoy them while they are little. My son just turned 21 and he doesn't like to hang out with Mom and Dad too much any more, although he will go out for dinner with us[;)]. Especially if it's someplace he likes.[}:)]

Have a good afternoon.
