Hello everyone,
I have been really busy so I have not been able to stop in. I have been running our large scale display at my local train show, and will be there tomorrow. I can't wait for my quiz on Sunday Photo Fun tomorrow. I will post pix from the show, when I upload them.

Evening all, hard to keep up. I have been watching the crumb snatchers while my better half works her one weekend a month. I think she must work more since she became a stay at home mom than when she worked full time.
Mike, my mother's family came to the US after WWII. They were O'Donovans and dropped the O as my great grandfather was notorious in the IRA. He was to be hung and the IRA broke him out and he got to Canada and became a Canadian National Railways official.
Have a great night everyone.

Back in 2002, I went to the ET&WNC convention in Boone NC.
one of the events that year was a steam excursion on the old
ET&wnc main line. years ago three miles of track was relaid
on the Old ET&WNC narrow gauge line thru the Doe River
Gorge. here is Tunnel 3 in the gorge below Pardee Point.
the loco is a 1924 Vulcan 2-4-2T. this was quite a event.
since then the old ET&WNC narrow gauge line has went to
Diesel.
had a great day running HO and O trains.
weather was fine but cool.

While I am finishing my trying to catch up on the forum, I have been watching a great show. John Wayne, "The Quiet Man", I never thought of it, but it does indeed have trains in the movie. I have not noticed this one on the list of Trains in Movies thread. Tried going back several pages, but the thread is even further. Also, another post on celeberties, what about Michael Gross, the spokesman for WGH. I am not sure he was on the list.

Dennis,
Without going back to review the list of Trains in Movies, there was one I didn't see....Throw Mama Fron The Train. As for TV shows, there was that mid '70's hit/flop, Super Train. I hope I'm not repeating what has already been listed but I thought them rather important inclusions considering the show titles.

Durbin and Greenbrier Valley Railroad operates three very interesting trains.
this is the Durbin Rocket a Climax steam locomotive. it operates on former
C&O trackage along the greenbrier river near the town of Durbin WV.
only a few miles from Cass WV if up in that area drop by and take
in this trip as well.
Good Morning from Blueberryhill
It is SUNNY and 27 degrees. Going up to 45 degrees and
lots of SUN. Hope to go out, for awhile today, providing cold air doesn't start me coughing
again. Wish it was about 20 degrees warmer.
The other day, I went out and the cold air really screwed up my lungs. Had to sit in the car
with the heater going while the wife saw the doctor. Bummer.
Well, I hope everyone had a good time at the train meet.
Today is another race from Atlanta. 500 miles.
Chief...I hope you have a safe trip home. Sorry we couldn't connect.
Y'all have a great day and keep SUNNY.

Hello All: Yes I still exist ! Life sure takes us on mysterious roads. Last time I posted I was still running a crew at the new chocolate plant . I was asked to go to the National steel car in Hamilton Ontario, to run a project. They build the real thing in that plant. It was awesome to see th Hoppers & tanks being put together. I am now working on the lake Erie shores in Ontario. At a wind farm, 66 1.5 megawatt wind powered generators. We are 300 Feet up, the view is spectacular. On a clear day I can see across to the American side of lake Erie. Looks like wind power will be the future. I am working for a company from Indiana. ( H.B. White Construction.com) if you want to learn about wind power. The company has been very good to me & the people working under my direction. I am only home on Sunday so my computer time is limited. Good to see all are well. We work 10- 12 hours a day. At night I read back issues of CTT & MR, usually falling asleep in the process. Thanks to all for the great pics. will catch up next Sunday, All be good & have a great week. Kind regards Steve

Good morning to all from Gettysburg PA. It is a sunny day, 39 degrees with highs forecast to be 42. Getting ready to head to church.

LAZ - How was the Gun Show?

Ran some trains yesterday in the afternoon. Dug out an old Marx Operating Switch Tower. Cleaned it up and set it up on the layout. Also found a Marx Operating Crossing Gate. It will need some cleaning before I can install it. Also pulled out a Lionel 394 Rotating Beacon. Need to figure where to place it. I have a spot where I am thinking of putting a Plasticville Airport. I have get some shelves hung before I set it up. Ordered the shelves from Dechant's Railroad Express,
(http://www.MrTrain.com/). They were shipped last week. Hope they arrive soon.

Hope to get some more train time in today while I listen to the race on the radio.

Have a great day.

Good morning. We are expecting some snow today through Tues. My tile man did the tile floor prep for replacing some cracks tiles on Friday and was supposed to lay the new tile on Friday and grout Monday. He did not get to lay the replacement tile Friday, so Monday he comes during the snow! Oh well, the house is a mess for another week. I put a few pics on Sunday photo fun. Enjoy.

NStrackman: Nice photo. Neat loco.

Been spending my time digging footers for pool buttress suppots. Three down three to go. I was hoping to get two done today but I hit a large stone, i.e. boulder?, on the first I started this morning. I spent 4 hours with a pick, breaker bar, and finally cold chisel and heavy hammer to dig a 20" square X 6" deep hole. After that I'm done for the day and ready to spend the afternoon watching NASCAR.

When I haven't been working on the pool I've been spending time making a plan of my layout. Wish I would have kept the originals or it would be nice if all tracks were parallel to the edges.

Tim, the 3472 with the alum doors is 1949. The car is listed as 1949 to 1953, there is a description of the car with the plastic doors, var, (C), but it does not give the year. There are also other subtile differences between the C and D variationsi.e. shade of white on doors, hatch.

HI GIZ,
MITCH and DA GIZ, the gun show was OK but a little disappointed at the amount of vendors there. Seems like they are raising the prices of the tables for the vendors and alot of GIZ aren't going to pay the price to show there wares. All and all it was ok. I met this guy that was selling Collectable WWII army giz. You giz can check em out at
http://stores.ebay.com/Duke-Marketing
If I weren't into trains this would be great to geet into. They are 1:30 scale so a little be for the layout but definitly cool.
Anyway no bargains at the show. Just a nice day to get away from the wife and spend sometime with brother and friend looking at guns.

Have a good day.

I am familiar with Durban, I have fished & hunter there and abouts but I have not seen the train.

From that pic it seems to be about this time of year, late erby a month at most.

I had the dog groomed Saturday and this afternoon I am boxing up all the train stuff.

I have 6 additional boxes than when I brought it out in November.

I fuond track and a Round House shay in HO gauge in the garage when I was looking for boxes.

Someone gave me six coal hoppers and I made 3 log cars so I guess when Bubbette comes home she will think the train just got smaller.

"Honey I scrunk the train"

The Med folks are starting me on interferon this month.

I maye put the computter in the garge two and nail the doors shut.

I am afraid it will cause a problem with my rehab therapy at the VA so I may beg off an other month.

Back to trains, I found more stuff behind some chairs I have to take out if I can find a box.

The sooner I get done the sooner I can play with that HO and see if it works yet.

It was in the flooded locker but on top of the pile as it were.

Glad to see Colin had a good time at the show.
I wish we had HBO, I want to see what all the hoopla is about.

Your pal and a great American,

Steve Frame

Hello all!

Got back from Colorado ski trip about 1 am today, so I am still pretty tired. I did most of the driving (12 of 15 hours).

We all had a great time. My son and his two friends went for snowboarding. One of his friends converted to skis for the last day. Had great weather and the snow was good.

Been raining like crazy here the last 2 days. We drove in last night in a break, so no delay. Poured here all day amd has yet to stop. Swimming pool is flooded over the coping which means we have had more than 5 inches today.

Chief - that's good news about the items you "planted" in OHIZO. This will keep it interesting for those boys.

Redhawk - great to hear from you. It has been quite a while. Sounds like you have had the chance to work some interesting projects. Bet it was cold up there at 300 feet! Keep in touch when you can. The last two times we have driven to Houston to see family, we always see several semi's with looong trailers carrying 1 blade of a wind turbine propeller. I would like to see one of the machines they are being installed on.

Buckeye - I see you are the one "holding" the GRITS...

Have to go on a one day trip to Corpus Christi tomorrow to give a short speech on systems interconnect.

Have a great one all!
Roy

I took a page out of Chief's playbook and set up a temporary floor layout to run some of the shelf queens. I've had a blast running stuff that normally only sees the light of day at Christmas. Got a large loop of Fastrack on top of some rubber rug underlayment (to protect the hardwood floors). No scenery, just running a variety of stuff - Lionel (postwar and prewar) Marx, Williams, MTH, etc. The usual suspects. A great way to spend a cool and overcast afternoon!

Do any of you guys have a similar problem to mine with the Coffee Pot?

When I click on the last page of the thread, it opens and it turns out that there are another 2-3 pages shown to actually get to the last page.

Kind of a pain having to open the CP twice to get to the last page.

Dr. John -sounds like your day was much better than mine. No time for trains here today.

Roy, When I click the blue arrow I always get the last page, of course I then have to back up to the last post that I read.

Did a little work on the layout. I had decided to rearrange my small yard to 3 tracks and eliminate another siding. Nothing is ever simple. Found out that to make things work I needed a 1" piece of track. Since I use Realtrax in this area, that was a problem. For those who use Realtrax, here is how I solved it.

I cut a 1" piece of a small section that I had on hand, I then connected this to the piece that needed the extension using Atlas rail joiners on top for strength and soldered wire jumpers underneath for current continuity. The third picture shows the section in place on the layout. Not finished yet, have to wire a new feeder for the siding, change the main feeder location and wire the switch, but took a break to check into the pot and relax.

Top side.

Bottom side.

In place on the layout.

That is a solution to a problem I often wondered how you would do that with
MTH real track. The Lionel Fast track can be cut to fit, seen how Bob barnett
did it using a Miter saw.

Roy, I have the same problem when clicking on the pages, I found its easier to click on the arrow for last post and back up to where I want.

The sattelite is picking up a strong signal from the hardware Chief planted up north.

LAZ - we are floating here. We need it. The pool is over the top and water went into the garage. Over 7 inches so far today. Glug glug!

John - [#ditto]

Roger - I do not get any arrows. Only the last page number. At the top level I get this:

The pot of coffee is always on [even after a year has passed]. Come on in. Sweet ice tea too.
Pages: (762) 1 2 3 4 ... 759 760 761 762

No arrow at the end.

Then I click on page "762" and then I get this at the top of the page:

Pages: (763) « First ... 759 760 761 [762] 763

Again - no arrow. You can see that page 762 is highlighted and that is the page I am on, but page 763 is the actual last page. So I have to click twice each time to get to the last page.

I get the same thing. Always a page or two behind and with dial up it really takes some time to get to the last page.
Kinda frustrating at times.
Stay dry?
