Where did the warm weather go? Its a cloudy 49 deg. here this afternoon. the folks at Atlanta Moter Speedway must be freezing their butts off since yesterday's rain out is being run today.

Talk about screwed up thinking. The daughter sent down a used/surplus IBM processer for me to set up for the granddaughters to play their games on. The existing keyboard and mouse on their failed unit have USB plugs, the new unit PS2 ports. It is cheapre to buy a new keyboard and mouse than to buy adapters, go figure. The adapters would have been around $28 at Office Depot and at Target we had a keyboard and mouse on special for $4.50 ea. and with my employee discount it cost me a whole $8.67 including tax.

Chief,
I think you are right about the TRSBA. I am not sure how to explain this one, but I did get them all for about $17.each. On a good note, we are getting plenty back on taxes, so perhaps she'll let me ride on this one. I will just have to get something nice for her mother.

Don,

I have 42" curves on my original layout. If I had it to do over again I would go to 54" as there is a lot of stuff that will run on 54" that will not run on 42" curves. For example, the Atlas Erie Built FM locomotives and the Golden gate passenger cars, both of which I would love to have, but I can't run them on my 42" curves. Just my opinion.

Good Evening all,
Spring fever? Full moon fever? ...or maybe...driving under the influence of Grits? You tell me!

My first clue that something was wrong today came during the Toronto noon news report. "20 year old man takes fire engine on 10 mile joy ride." It reminded me of the time an aquaintance told me about stealing a diesel locomotive. He was heavily under the influence of alcohol and drugs when he did it. It seemed like the right thing for him to do at the time but he soon abandoned the train when he realized he couldn't make a U turn.

Anyhooo, I get a call from the wife this afternoon, who I could tell was upset from the tone of her voice. She tells me that someone has just driven wrecklessly into our driveway, made some drunken like manuevers around the circular part and then driven off the drive onto our lawn and into a tree. Since I work a short distance from home I told my wife to lock the doors, call 911 and I'd be home immediately. Upon driving down my 1000 ft laneway it was obvious that somebody had used it and the lawn on the east side as a slolom course, taking advantage of free standing trees and telephone poles as pylons.
The police were already at my house when I arrived, attending to a rather confused and disoriented but unhurt woman driver. Her Toyota Matrix rested firmly against a mid sized Maple, it's front right fender, bumper, headlight and hood hit hard enough to flatten the right front tire. I later found out that the damage happened when she hit a different tree on the way in. She miraculously had missed anything man made by a few feet...a house, a garage ( with a Corvair in it ), 4 telephone poles and my wife's van. I surveyed the area on the laneway and thought there has to be a neater way to make crop circles. What a mess!

Well, they loaded the poor woman into the ambulance and I breathed a sigh of relief that no one had been harmed. I couldn't be angry at her for what she had done. It was obvious she wasn't of sound mind and the officers on the scene confirmed this. She had slipped away from whom ever was responsible for her care. Odd that it was HER car though.

So...nothing much going on otherwise. How was your first day of spring?[xx(]

Good Morning all!

Steve...Do take good care. Posts from friends and fellow enthusiasts like you are always valued here.

Chief...Only someone from Ottawa would agree to transport hazzardous material across international borders then dump them on Toronto. Once our budget allows ( we just spent $150,000 to study the sex life of flying squirrels ) we'll be sending money to Ralph Nader in hopes he can curb the illegal importation of environmentally dangerous foreign side dishes. Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 24 and going up to 34 with Blue Clear Skies .

OTTS Meeting this Friday. Anyone wishing to join us can e-mail me for direcetions.

Steve – good luck with the new meds, and stay away from Chief’s Grits.

Just heard on the news that some local vandals set on fire an old caboose that was being restored in Painesville, Ohio. What a shame! !

Chief – you should be spending money on benchwork not more rolling stock! ! !

Pick of the Day

All be safe

Feel better, Steve.

I tried taking my two sons to North East Trains on Saturday. Couldn't find it. Traffic was a nightmare, so I just drove back home rather than getting more aggravated.

Went to Michael's last night to buy a bunch of lichen with a 40% off coupon. My daughter was with me. She yammered so much at the checkout line, that I forgot to give the woman the coupon (although she saw it in my hand). I told her where she could go (checkout queen, not my daughter). That put me in a nasty mood for the rest of the night, which upset my daughter. And on her way up to bed, she turned to me and asked why I spend so much time on the layout, and not enough on girl things . . .

If I had a dog, I'd have kicked it!

Today, on the ride to work, I hear on the radio that New England is due for a big hurricane, and that weather patterns this year are almost identical to the last big hurricane we had decades ago. I say bring it on, big guy.

Good morning from Central PA. Going to work on the layout a little this morning need to wire the relocated switch and then change some block wiring.

Laz gave the local weather report.

My new VO-1000 has some problems. The sound died. I contacted Weaver and they say it probably has a defective speaker. They must be aware of a problem as the dealer I bought mine from has another with the same problem. They are sending me info to return it for repair. They are going to pick up the shipping costs so it sounds good so far. It runs great but without sound it is so guiet it sounds like a stealth loco. When at the other end of the layout and behind buildings, I can not tell if it is running until it comes around the corner. Wierd!

All have a good day.

Morning all. Cold and rainy [much needed].
John: I'm doing all 72 inch curves and switches on the main lines in order to run some big stuff there. Will drop back to some 54's at other places. That way, if I or anyone else wants to run big steam [such as 2-8-8-2 or other], you can put it on the main line and it will do OK.

Jim A: Should have walked right back in and returned it and then gotten the same stuff , go through the same checkout line and grin at the lady while handing the coupon. [}:)] OR Stand there and demand supervisor and demand rering and credit and hold up the checkout line. [}:)] Thought you Yankees knew how to be rude. [;)]

Tom P: Be prepared for late season snow storm. Hope to do some work in the walkin on Thursday and Friday [weather permitting me to saw plywood with table saw]. [:D]

Bruce: Turnip greens and grits go together. Also Collard greens and grits. [:p][;)]

Got to run and eat my GRITS and drink coffee. [:D]

God bless all.

Windy, gray and cold today in Chicago. I think I'll go over to the Art Institute at lunch (today is free entry day) and go visit my favorite paintings.
Glad no one got hurt, Bruce. Hope that woman has plenty of insurance.
Jim, I've had those sort of days. I hate I have to remind myself to spend time with my daughter - who seemingly doesn't want to hang with the old man - instead of just going along with the boys - esp. with baseball starting soon.
Haven't had the chance to fini***he tunnel - spent all evening doing division with the middle boy.
Tom, is that electric in your photo an original or reproduction? I forgot its number. I love the olive color.
John, I think you should try for the broadest curves you can fit on the layout - like the Chief says - not only do they look 'better' but you can run longer equipment. That said, I'm sticking with 027 because the trolleys and electrics look better whipping 'round those curves.

Good Morning from snowy Iowa--Mother Nature played a cruel hoax on us last night with 4" of heavy wet snow for the first day of spring, I already took the blade off of the ATV, it's good to have newer tires on the vehicles!

Chief has the right idea about the check out line, in a calm voice simply call for the manager/supervisor, employees hate that request and certainly gets their attention.

Need some advice--our layout is going to be on the May tour list and I would like to build a long coal train. Are there any great buy's out there for rolling stock?

Thanks for your help.

Rude and crude, Chief! As usual, I was pressed for time. Besides, I didn't want to make a huge deal out of a discount of 3 or 4 bucks. It was the principle of the whole thing that ticked me off. Checkout girl saw the coupon in my hand. Rather than say something naughty in front of my daughter, I walked away, black cloud in hot pursuit. As I said before, I told her where she could go, and it wasn't to the Piggly Wiggly. [;)] The past few days, I'm the doorknob, and everyone is taking a turn. Small stuff, but annoying.

Cold here and we got some heavy wet rain/snow overnight, but the roads were pretty clear and the school didn't close today so kids were sad this morning. Still sore from helping our friends move. We were going to work on the Harry Potter Lego Layout last night, but I had to run up to the store for supplies (just in case) and when I got back my son was absorbed on the nintendo. My daughter wanted to play Battleship, so we did that instead until their bedtime. She is starting to get the whole strategery thing down, zeroing in on the ships once she gets a hit, but sometimes it's still just random (I think). Fun to watch the wheels start turning a little faster! No grits today, just low-fat sausage links on toast with a slice of non-fat cheese - tastes better than it sounds!

Morning all!

Steve - hang in there buddy and get to feeling better as soon as possible.

Jim (jaabat) - I know how you feel.

Chief - winter has returned - you must be working on benchwork? Enjoyed chatting with you the other night.

Doug - that photo of your layout a couple of pages ago is great. Looking good.

Don - go for at least an outside loop with 072. I think you will kick yourself later if you do not. If you just can't do 072, then go with 054 at a minimum for an outside loop.

Spanky - nice photo with some tinplate!

Jim - Battleship - good game.

Have a great one all!
