Evening all. After church, I did drive down to Chicagoland Hobby with my buddy. Thought we'd listen to the race on the radio but settled for Bradley beating Pitt. He picked up a long MTH bridge and an MTH elevated train platform. A great sale. I somehow got out of there without buying anything but it was fun to see their stuff. That Chicago Surface Lines PCC car surely tempted me. But I'm looking forward to my Birney arriving this week. No rain here - very dry.

Roy, Over under the last post heading you should see the name of the last poster and after that a blue arrow. If you click on the arrow it should take you direct to the last post, which will be the bottom of the last post. Maybe it isn't showing on your browser.

John,
I use Realtrax. They make a 5 1/2 inch straight. Two of them give you 11'' compared to the regular 10" straight. Maybe that wouldnt have worked in your situation, I dont know. I've used some pretty interesting combinations of track lengths to make my layout work. You came up with an interesting solution there.

Beautiful trackwork, John. Forgot to tell you all about my tunnel widening project. I was working to 'lower' my Pennsy caboose last night and I suddenly realized I don't have to take out the smokejack and lower the trucks, I can raise my tunnel clearances. So I spent the next two hours taking apart my tunnelled ridge and cutting cardboard. Now to test it all out.

Just got done watching DA SOPRANOS on HBO, no train scene oh well maybe next week.
The rest of the show was slow. Tony was shot and in a coma by a bullet from his Uncle Jun.

Evening All: Have a chance to check in before I head back to the Erie shores. Roy: Those props you see are 112' ft. long & guess what they come from the lone star state all the way to Canada with Police escort all the way. The full wing span is about 225 ft installed. The nose or the hub as we call it will fit three or four of us. Yes we do crawl out there, open the hatch to get in & connect the motors that adjust the pitch of the blades.( We are Tied off with double lanyard & lifeline). But it is still 300' ft down & on a windy day the movement can be 18" each way making it a 3' sway. Not all of our guys are up for that part of the job. In the distance I can spot the CN line about 10 miles away. I can also keep an eye out for the Cheif if he try's a sneak attack through Canadian soil & across the lake. Dr. John Thank's for your note in Dec. If you ever need any more help let me know. Tom your pics are great as usual. On a quick note will anyone be modelling a wind turbine for the layout soon. Or maybe the manufacturer's will have something soon. Imagine the possibilities. I think I am going to try construction in progress with a 350' crane lifting the prop assembly. In 5 years are landscape will be dotted with these things. They may not be pretty to some, but were telephone poles & Hydro Towers pretty 75 years ago? I guess we could say change is in the wind[;)]. Kind regards to all & have a safe week. Kind Regards to all Steve

Paul, Thanks for the suggestion, but it wouldn't have worked for me. One side of the cut piece was a curve and the other side was an uncoupling section followed by three switches and then a full section. It was easier to make the cut than to move the three switches and the two sidings that were already installed along with all the stuff along those sidings. All part of the pain of making changes on an establisthed layout. [:D]

Greetings - man I am beat. We finished moving our friends to their new house. Dave rented a 24 foot truck. We took 3 truckloads over, 2 yesterday with another guy helping and 1 today with just the 2 of us. Didn't get started today until noon though. Hopefully will get time to work on the lego layout this week. Still need to clean off the Polar express and put it up for the year too. Oh well - helping freinds is more important. I've got muscles hurting I didn't even know I had!

Do any of you guys have a similar problem to mine with the Coffee Pot?

When I click on the last page of the thread, it opens and it turns out that there are another 2-3 pages shown to actually get to the last page.

Kind of a pain having to open the CP twice to get to the last page.

Me too.

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and cool in SE Indiana. Fallout from the Chief's visit must have drifted over to Indiana as we are supposed to get a lot of snow tonight and Tuesday. I am supposed to be off the next two days so it does not matter too much. We may be making a brief incursion south of the Mason-Dixon line tomorrow, but don't tell the rebs. We hope to cross the border and leave pork tenderloins strewn everywhere :-) I flew the helicopter car for the granddaughter yesterday and she seemed to enjoy it. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Today is the first day of spring. Can a huge snowstorm be far behind?!

Very disappointed with the Sopranos last night. what a waste of an episode. Could have had an extra hour's sleep.

The kids had me up at 5AM both days this weekend. Tired. Very, very tired . . .

Chris,

I thought maybe that Intermobal was a play on words by CN, but I guess not as their site uses the correct term Intermodal. Save those cars, they may become a collectors item.[:D]

In the high 20s with the brisk wind this first day of Spring in Chicago. I resolutely wore my light jacket and rightfully froze walking to work.
More tunnel work:
The mountain ridge on my layout is made up of four cardboard boxes draped with window screen netting and LifeLike 'mountain paper' - it's about 8 ft. long. The tunnel goes through all four boxes on a curve, and larger or longer rolling stock has been hitting the sides of the internal braces which I original made to fit the clearance of the Lionel tunnel portal. So Sat. night, I ripped everything out after my Pennsy caboose (I forgot what they called a caboose - a van car or something?) hit one of the middle braces and couldn't be pushed or pulled out. I cut back the braces and pulled out the portal facing the front of the layout. The other entrance facing the back of the layout is just wide open.. I'm thinking about cutting the portal in half to expand it - but I'm unsure how to attach it. For now, I'm experimenting with making a wider portal out of fabric, so if something brushes against it inadvertently, it wouldn't derail...

Good morning - cold here in Arnold and looking for foul weather. If there is snow here (it's currently projected just north of us) I'm sure the kids will be off school tomorrow. Operating on caffeine and Advil right now - worked too hard this weekend.

The blue arrow to the right of the last poster's name always works for me - takes me right to the last post.

Greetings..... Major Change at Our Place.......

Had a very interesting Sunday, we had planned o visiting a train shop to pick up a "inexpensive" DCS steam engine. We joined a club and the only TMCC or DCS capability that we currently have is our large scale Cab Forward. We took it there the first night and it was great ! But, that is just to expensive and delicate to be carrying back and forth. So decided to get an engine we could take there.

Was planning to get a 440, UP with smoke defelctors, about $400, however it only had Railsounds 1, so the store owner went in back to check what else he had. Came back with a Railsounds 2.0 Big Boy, for the same price! New in the dusty box. Couldn't believe it. (They seemed a little biased against MTH, and apparently wanted to get rid of it.) Got it home, unwrapped it, its is perfect, mint, never been out of the box. Runs great!)

Now, I have been working hours and hours on trying to get a "interesting" layout in our new room. (19' x 16') to accomodate the 72'" curves. Take the new Big Boy which is 2'" shorter and only requires 31" curves, put it on our floor layout next to the Cab Forward.....Hummmmm , Hummmm DECISION......

Incomparing the curve requirements for both the Big Boy and Cab Forward, realize that in both instances the 72" curve engines are about 2-3" longer than the 31" engines. And when placed on the track the height and lengths are barely discernable.

Therefore, Lets abandon the 72" curve and go with 42'" , much better layout potentials. Replace the scale Cab Forward with a Lionmaster, (31") and everything seems to make more sense.

- Layout in better proportion to room, more "usability" of engines on layout, 42" curves should allow for majority of applications.......

Seems right way to go... WHAT THOUGHTS DO YOU GUYS HAVE ?

Afternoon all,
Nice day so far, around 70's. Not much going on, but I did find out that I won a few auction items that I low bid on and actually got. Wife is going to kill me. Anyway, got some nice rolling stock to add to the collection. Hope y'all have a good one. On call this week, so hopefully no long nights at work, only layout planning.

Slow day on the forum today. Here's a joke:

A blonde was driving down the street in a sweat because she had an important meeting and couldn't find a place to park. Looking up toward heaven she said, "Lord, take pity on me. If you find me a parking place I will go to mass every Sunday for the rest of my life, give up sex and tequila." Miraculously, a parking place appeared. She looked up again and said, "never mind. I found one."

You are going to sleep with the dog!!!!! She said you were on TRAINS RESTRICTION!!! I Think that you and I should start Trains and Rolling Stock Buyers Anonymous. I just bought 4 cars while in Ohizo. Don't have anywhere to put them now. Rooms full of cars and hall too.

Great joke Jim A.
