Afternoon everyone. Glad to see the Chief is back. Lots of whining from above the MD line. After looking at some of Roger's layout photos, I don't think Chief needs a layout, just head to Roger's. He and all y'all have posted some great photos of some fantastic layout work. I am envious.

Boy, what a nice day today! Started off in the mid-20's but now in the mid 60's with sunshine. Wish I could be outside to enjoy it!

Bought one of those pedometers you wear on your belt to measure how far I walk in a day. Here it is almost 1 pm and I haven't gone 3/4 of a mile yet! Maybe if I actually got out of the chair and moved around it would help! [;)] Or, I could send the pedometer back and spend the money on some trains. [:D]

Sorry DR., that does not count. Mended Hearts meeting the other night, the team said you have to warm up, then expecise for 30 minutes continously and then cool down. Do 30 minutes three times a week. [:(] That is why I TRY to walk to the ponmd and back.

Yes all. I see the Yanks are a lot of talk. They run and hide with the sugar [for the sweet ice tea] and grits start flying. [:D]

Chief, I can't believe you had to go thru Chicago to get to Duda Land. O'Hare, airport not Frank, is #1 on my list to bypass.
So, I guess pushing buttons and turning the red knob on the cab-1 doesn't count either.

Thanks for the advice guys - we have friends who already built (almost ready to move in) in this new subdivision, so that is THE deciding factor for my wife - lol!

One good thing, apparently the basement would be mostly mine! The kids would have their own "1/2 story" area with bedrooms, bathroom, etc. Plus, it would have a 3 car garage, so I could put all my woodworking stuff out in the garage and keep all that dust out of the house. I have a 2hp dustcollector that gets most of it, but you never get it all.

Listening to the radio and it appears to be a buyers market, so that's against us. I guess interest rates have gone up. Lots of stuff to figure out and research I guess.

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Chief, When will you be going by Miss Edna's, I have been calling all over the country looking for the K-Line B&O coil cars without any luck. They were in the 2005 catalog so I assume they were shipped. I know spell assume and see what you get. Think she would have any info [?]

Doug,
Try Doug Waller at The Train-Station.com. They purchased a bunch of K-Line items prior to the demise. They may have one on hand. Doug is a friend, but I have no financial gain for recommending them. I just know that they have a huge inventory. Hope he can help you if Ms. Edna isn't able to.

Good evening all,

Chief, Maybe you should try Amtrak! [:)] [:)]

I took some time off from working on the trains this evening and completed a project in the wood shop.

Cradle to hold engines when working on them.

With a trainmaster in place.

Ignore the junky workbench, I usually have a half dozen or so projects going at the same time.

Those of you who saw the race yesterday, how'd you like that pace car or should I say pace truck. I'll bet that is one truck that never makes a trip to pick up a load of manure or gravel. [:D]

Good Evening from W. Michigan [:)]

Just another day workwise....this morning was kinda rough getting to work though, lots of accidents and folks sliding off into ditches and the medians, and was quite snowy as well. Did a run from Grand Rapids to Huntington, IN and back. I report at 8am tomorrow morning, my times vary unfortunately so my schedule isnt quite stable.

Im thinking of getting some video transferred to my main video workstation PC so that I can soon begin some video projects. Since I dont have a train layout right now, train stuff is pretty much on hold until I can get more track and a suitable layout plan to work with. Getting paid every 2 weeks sucks because oftentimes have to make the check stretch until next pay period. And im sick of the high gas prices.

@Tom, what kind of interview are you interviewing for? Hope it turns out well!

John - I like that engine holder for working on the trains. What did you use to build it? How about sizes? Thanks!

Colin - Be smart and treat her like a lady. You'll make a lot of points.

Chief - Glad you got home ok.

We only got 5 to 6 inches of snow today. No real problem.

Have a good night all.

Tom Schmidt,

I used 3/4 plywood. I was going to make it 24" long but had some scrap that was 23" so settled for that. The bottom is 4-3/4" wide and the sides are 3-1/2 high. That makes the inside dimension 2-3/4". I used 1" foam (4 chair pad fillers (16” square by 1” are few dollars at Wal-Mart.). I cut the sides first and was going to glue it in, but when I put the bottom piece in place it held the sides in place, so I did not glue it in. I figure that after a while the foam will probably get oil soaked and I can just pull it out and replace it. Finished inside dimensions after foam is installed is 2-3/4" wide and 1-3/4" high. I wanted the wheels to be above the sides so I could run the engine inverted if need be. If someone has long steam engines they would probably want to make it longer. My longest is a scale K-4.

Hey gang...

Finally cleaned the track and ran some trains. On the pike tonite was the Lionmaster T-1 with EOB which thanks to TAS is finally working correctly. The US Army 44 was hammering around the layout and the CC GG1 was brought out for a spin as well.

Took the time to add a yard light near the siding switch as well. Hope veryone has a good week!

Wow, what a day at the races......

The truck used (Chevy SSR), is the same one used last year. Its ok, but.. way to expensive around 50k, just because its a convertable. No room in the back, and it is tricked out with carpet you wouldn't want to haul anything. Interior very plastic and not much room either, plus they have had a problem with roof leaking. I'll stay with my El Camino.

Have to share the summary of the day.....
Left the house at 9:00 to drive 45 miles, (race starts at 1:00) no problem. Parking has been a major issue. In previous years if you were not there 2.5 to 3 hours early no chance of parking on track property due to tailgate parties taking up 3-4 spots. Frustrating unless your at one. Anyway I found a "back way " into the track and a protected street and usually park there. Still end up walking about a mile total, but is less than 60% of the parking lot locations. This year parking lot situation managed by a company from NJ, sections color coded and assigned when tickets purchased. Don't understand why our parking assignment was the far west end of property and seats at the east end... Go Figure.

Anyway, we got their and inside by 10:30, went through all the vendor and sponsor trucks, got new frequency listings for the scanner, walked through the pits, and went to our seats. (Good seats too.) Wife and son decide to go "souviner shopping" [:-^]

They come back and he has a full size plastic pit board sign which was about 4ft by 3 ft
How do keep that in the stands. Finally, I had him take to the car, then had to go after him gone to long. Got back to the seats race half over. And, was pretty much boring race. Finally left with 75 laps to go then the race was interesting, so heard it on the radio.

Could've been a better day.
Will watch the last of the race on video.

Let me think what trains could I have bought.

Don

Colin, get yourself a pair of Wranglers and forget this nonsense about 3/4 length pants. We don't want you to look stupid for the women who are entering your life. [;)]
