Colin,

I traded my car for a house full of people I love. I'd do it again.

cnw1995: Thanks for the comment. The dimensions are 9 inches long, 7 inches wide, and 3.5 inches high. (I might make a smaller one for another trackside building.)

I cut out a 7 inch diameter circle in 1 inch pine. Then I cut that in half for the front and back of the building. I attached a piece of one inch pine between the low or floor level of the two ends on the cut to make the length 9 inches. (That is, the ends are not on top of the piece, but in between.) For the roof, I cut a piece of sheet metal and tacked it the the round surface of the ends. I sprayed a fine mist of flat black, rust and earth brown to achieve the weather look of the roof. To me, there is something magical about going to a train store and seeing floor to ceiling Lionel boxes. I decided on a whim to put some Lionel color on my first O layout so I painted the ends of the building Lionel orange, and some leftover plasitc pieces (door, smoke stack and window) Lionel blue. I made the sign on the front (Lionel's) out of popsicle sticks, painted it lionel blue and cut out the word "Lionel" from an old Lionel catalog. I found the same size "s" in the catalog and cut it out and an apostrophy in blue. The letters are on the Lionel cream background. I also did something similar in painting the small Lionel water tower kit in those colors. Not prototypical, but it was fun. Thanks. [:)]

Good afternoon all,

After a little work in the greenhouse I started installing my track lighting. Got two 6' sections with an L up and tested with an extension cord. Have two more 8' sections to mount and then have to wire through dimmers. Doing the easy stuff first. Had to take a break from that to check out the coffee pot.

Laz, Thanks, that is my first A+ in a shop project. I had to build that after nearly having a Camelback roll onto the floor while working on it.

Good Afternoon Everyone ! Taking a little break here from fixing leaks on the new toilets I put in a couple weeks ago ! Not a favorite job ! I would rather have started making my new eng. cradle. I made one before, but the engines & cars rolled back & fourth too much. Jefelectrics design looks like a perfect one for me too ! I think I have one more little leak to take care of .
Hope everyone is having a nice day !
Oh, & nice quanset Hut !! [:)]

I saw the train wreck video and don't get it. Why is it obscene? Did I sneeze at the wrong time or is it obscene because the train had broccoli issues? Someone please explain it to this bare-footed, uneducated backwoodsman.

Yeah Colin...I can't afford to get ill, I gotta drive for a living (for now at least) and driving semi's all day is work enough! [;)]

Seriously hope you get better. The last time I was ill was the Christmas of 2003, full blown. And wouldn't you know it, I had worked that day too...not fun at all.

Sounds like you have guys at your school Colin that seem immature. I know I was the opposite (quiet, shy and reserved, as some of my old teachers used to tell me). Of course my mom did not allow me to date or talk to girls at all during my teen years, so I was pretty much locked out of the social and dating scene. My teen years is something I am glad I never have to be bothered with again, because they all sucked.

Do you still have your tonsils? I finally had mine out at 44. It was not fun, but I have been healthy since. My tonsils were so bad, everytime the sun would go behind a cloud I would get strep throat. Good luck.

I always liked that style of car along with the old Skylark's,Chevelle's & Nova's. They were some of the best looking cars around. John- Like your Engine Cradle. A great way to work on any engine or car. Take Care all.

Jim- That was a nice looking 442. It takes a lot of skill to restore a car like that. I also am impressed by how you set your priorities.

Hey Colin - you'd better get better soon if you want to have some time with those young lady friends of yours.

Have a good evening everyone.

Dan, don't feel alone, I too didn't get it. Thought it must be regional or some other issue.

Chief - This is my second El Camino, the first was a 86, had it for 7 months, bought it new, and it was stolen, never recovered. Bought our current one in 87, it has been stolen once but obviusly recoverd, minor damage. It now has 211,000 miles on it. I put a engine and trans in it last summer. It developed the "Chevy" blue smoke on starting due to leaking valvues, so rather than do a valve job, then have to do the bottom end in six months just replace it which was only $3k down the Chevy garage. (With 3 year warranty.) Biggest issue is I think I am losing it to my son next year. I told him I would sell it to him on his HS graduation.

Received interesting mail today. Lionel 06 Catalog, and price list from Charles Ro, and a dvd from Kalmbach with a commerative collector coin. DVD may be familiar to many of you it is various train yards, layouts, and instructional guides. Apparently it is the first in a series.

Good morning to all from Gettysburg, PA. Currently 30 with a high of about 42 predicted. Tomorrow there is a winter weather advisory, so we could see some of that ugly white stuff, ( and I don't mean GRITS[;)][;)][;)][;)][;)]).

Hope everyone has a great day.

My wife got "her" Lionel catalog from Charles Ro last week. Her and my boys go there more often than I do. The boys like to see the big layout on the second floor. I'm heading down there today to pick up my FT (and whatever else I happen to like).

I'm hoping I get one of those DVDs from Kalmback soon.

I got home last night and saw that my river had cracked, much like a crackle finish. My guess is that I applied too heavy a coat of gloss medium. Either that or I went too fast and didn't let everything set up long enough. I'll mix a little latex caulk with water to dilute it and apply it with a bru***o fill in the cracks. That way, it will be able to expand and contract better.

The first time I ever saw a 442 was in high school. My buddy told me his dad was picking us up in his new car. I was completely gaga over it. I knew right then and there that I wanted one just like it. Some years later, I was fortunate to be able to buy one and restore it. I made it look exactly like my friend's dad's car. To this day, it was the only material thing I ever really dreamed of owning. I had a lot of fun with it (and probably taught the whole neighborhood how to cuss when I worked on it). I sold it to a collector who sold it to a museum in Volo, Illinois. I don't know who owns it now.

Colin,
As a teen and on into my 20's I used to get strep throats (and clusters of severe sinus headaches) about once every month to six weeks. It was so bad that my doctor strongly recommended removing my tonsils. But that was when AIDS was still a huge news item and many doctors recommended keeping one's tonsils as a part of the immune system. I kept mine, but an interesting thing happened. The last of our family's cats past away and I haven't had a strep throat since! And that cat died a long time ago. Wash your hands well and often. Don't put fingers in your nose or eyes. Use a tissue instead. If your friends are sick, keep your distance! Get rid of the cats.

Jim

Jaabat, I do not have a cat, but I have a dog. Well, like Keith said, I hope you get to own another one some day. Great looking cars, and they make a very nice exhaust note.

Morning all!

I'm glad Jim posted the picture of his 442. Before that I thought we were talking about Atlantic type locomotives. Really nice car, Jim! I still can't believe GM did away with the Olds name

Judging from the end results I see on COPS, wearing fashionable pants while running from the police just doesn't work. It brings new meaning to the phrase "being caught with your pants down". I always got away when I wore my clamdiggers! [;)]

I hope you're feeling better soon, Colin. I'd recommend an old family remedy for strep throat but I don't think PA's legal drinking age is 15. [;)] After recently seeing Chris Rock's stand up routine, every time I see big @$$ rims like that I gotta chuckle....same goes for "clear heels" LOL

Collin – hope you are feeling better soon.

Don – nice car and son. Is he into your trains also. If not, No car.

Cold today in Chicago. I'm jealous of all of you with better weather. Hope you feel better soon, Colin. I've just gotten over my cold. Did you get the latest CTT e-newsletter? They're having a monthly contest now - this one for a bridge. The new products have been updated too - there was some nifty 19th cen. homes that might fit on the layout. Man, I never seem to have a camera handy - or its been borrowed - or its sitting there with dead batteries. I have an old camcorder which I never use - though I'm toying with getting the tapes I have moved to DVD. I have many tapes featuring the first child, about half-as many for the 2nd child and half of one for the third child [:D]
