Dr. John, belated congratulations on your pre-war purchase. I just love my 248 - it runs like a clock - more beat up than your beauty.
93, 87, warm and sunny! I'm jealous. 25 and sleeting here in no'west IL.
Tom, I didn' t know RMT made boxcars too.
Mickey, still admiring your Quonset hut - never thought it was 'solid.' - a great idea.
Have a good trip, Chief!

Mitch - North Texas summer = 98 - 104

Dr. John - we have four seasons here - two green, two brown!

Cooling today, clouds rolling in, might rain some tonight.

Another busy day.

Good Morning,

34 here and raining. We missed the bad stuff, a little ice early this morning. Glad to hear you got a little break Laz. Heading over to my daughter to baby sit the 3 & 5 year olds this afternoon.

I got my track lighting installed. Have to do a little arranging to get the lights placed right. Took a shot of two trains passing as a test. It sure is hard to get good pictures of black engines. Will post later when I get a chance to do some cropping.

Colin, hope you get better real quick. Maybe we should move South, sounds like the weather is pretty good.

Its a overcast 64 here today, I doubt it'll get much higher. It hit 74 yesterday. I noticed the Bradford Pears are starting to flower, daffodils are popping up and a few other buds are breaking through. This usually means its time for a late, hard frost to ruin the peach crop.

Colin - hope you feel better. Do you think the whistle might be due to congestion/infection, my ears constantly "ring" due to tinuitis (sp?)? Too much shooting and working around machinery. Another possibility is an old factory whistle, they used to use them at the start and end of shifts.

Roger, there are no factories near us. The whistles are very distinct, and this started way before I even had this cold.

When I was a firefighter, we obtained a air horn off an old GP engine and mounted it on top of one of the engines, boy would that move traffic when you hit it.

HI GIZ,
Just got done talking to Sun Models and ordered my K4. It is to be shipped UPS next week. Finally got through.

COLLIN, TMMCCMAN , they only have the pre war ones with the smoke deflrctors left. So if you want one thats all they have and the guy said there running out. Thought I give you a heads up on this. Cost is $349.95 + $20 UPS charge.

I hooked up a PM to the BW-80 I have for the conventional powered rug loop in the TV room for the granddaughters this afternoon. I figured it will give them experience using the CAB-1, I have another for the main layout, and I can set the max. power. Even if there is a derailment, no harm falling from Realtrack onto the carper, a whole 3/8" +/-.

Colin, you'd be suprised how far sound carries. the CSX main is at least 10 mi. from the house and when its quiet early, or late in the day, I can hear the horns.

Yeah, I know about the horns in the morning and late night. This morning I heard 2 freights, one with a Dash9 at the front (could tell by the horn) and then an SD40-2 (coud tell by the horn). I am only 5 miles from the NS/CSX main.

Laz, thanks for the heads up. My parents are not budging though. Hope those of you who are getting one or two enjoy them.

Good afternoon to everyone from W. Michigan!

Another cold day, was icy rain this morning, but then started to lightly snow later in the afternoon. Temps were in the low 30's today.

I am not suprised that Texas is hot...I grew up in the Houston area and I definitely know hot hot it can get there, especially in the summer!

Right now I am sitting here just staring at a large O-72 oval empty with trains on it.....not really sure whether to take the tracks up and store them for now or what......ah, i'll think of something.

One thing I do know though, is that later this month I will be another year older....ugh the pain.

Hey all,
Just a quick note before dinner is done.
I stopped by Big Lots on the way home, they have several 1/43rd cars. Two police cars, one state trooper, one Chicago PD. they also have some car kits that are diecast and you just put them together and add the decals. A few of them are olds 442, a few vets, and some others (mostly from the late 60s and early 70s). I didn't get any as I am doing late 40s and early 50s. the oldest they had was a 57 vet.
Hope some of you can get the good find,
Dennis

I just got in from shoveling the driveway. For once, I am jealous of my southern friends. If you guys want to send us a little of the warmth you have now I will save some of this cold weather for you to use during the summer.

Doug - I don't know where my brain was when I posted that piece about the RMT "caboose." I don't know where I got the idea of a boxcar. I guess I must have been pretty tired. Sorry about that.

The Erie, PA train show is this weekend. I won't be able to go but I do hope it's better then it has been in the past. I was disappointed with it the last few times I've been there.

Have a good night all.

Home from church. The check is in the mail, Roy.[;)]
Chris, run them trains on that big beautiful oval.
Tom, congrats on your new caboose. I was excited for the moment thinking RMT had opened another line. I like their stuff.
Anyone else going to the Hi-Rail show at Harper College in Palatine, IL this weekend[?]

Roy - I cannot imagine that kind of heat all summer long. Hopefully the A/C works great. We get some hot, humid days here in the summer but usually the heat only gets really bad for a few days at a time, just like the bitter cold.

LAZ - hope you enjoyed your sleep in yesterday AM. I try not to count the days 'cause it makes me crazy thinking about all I've got to get done before the end of school.

Another long day ahead. Last night was an evening at activity at school celebrating Dr. Suess' Birthday. Great turnout, but a long night. Didn't get home until nearly 10:00 PM. Tonight a trip to the funeral home, one of my teacher's dad passed away.

Have a great day.

Mitch

Morning guys,
I hope this day turns out to be a good one. It has been a long week at work. I enjoy the work, but miss the family. It is bad when you get home just a little before bed time with the kids, it's even worse when you get home after they are asleep and leave before they wake up. Anyway, I hope to get some very important yard work and "Honey Do's" out of the way this weekend so that I can start a new layout next week. Hope y'all have a great day.

Dennis,

I know how you feel. My wife is an OR nurse at a hospital and frequently takes call - hers and others. The good part is the money she brings home. The bad part is being away from her family and working some long, odd hours. She didn't get much call in February, but her busy season is coming up. Once the warmer weather hits, the number of shootings and stabbings climb dramatically. Evidently, shooters and stabbers don't go out much in the cold weather.

Spoke with the Chief last night. It was a pleasure as always. He's up in Virginia for the weekend. He's the busiest retired guy I know!

Good morning all,

It is cloudy and cold in SE Indiana with the highs in the low 40s. It has been a long week at work and I am so glad it is Friday. With my son working, I thought I would have some quiet evenings at home, but that has not proven to be the case. I did go to the Y to work on some soccer skills, but that was the sum total of my excitement last night. The granddaughter is coming for a visit Saturday (along with her parents) and I can't wait to see her reaction to the helicopter car! I have to get the grandkids started early on trains, soccer and racing. I hope everyone has a good day.

Keep on training,

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 25 and going up to 34 with Blue Clear Skies .
We just got a coating of snow last night and some areas up to 2”. Nothing to get excided about. Spring is closes by.

Ed – we could meet you at the museum this weekend, just give me a call when you are going.

Chris – go ahead and be a floor runner. Chief is. At least you will be able to run some of your trains and enjoy them.

Pick of the Day

These are some of the buildings that the museum had. I haven’t cleaned them yet.

All be safe

Good day to run trains. They are relaxing.
Well, I will do a few things around here today. It's Friday.
Y'all have a great day. Keep warm.....Unless you are in Texas.
