Good afternoon from northwestern Illinois. Went to the High Wheeler show at Harper College in Palatine put on by the local NMRA. What a nice show! My wife surprised me by wanting to come with me - and we took the youngest - who was a squirmy handful - which kept the time spent there lower than I would've liked. Highlights were a O gauge 2 rail electric transit layout and an HO interurban modular layout. There was the local TCA with a 3 rail modular layout - got to see an original M10000 run - like a top! There was plenty of other HO. Anyway, it was inspiring! Have a great day!

Whew! Busy day working in the yard. Got a lot accomplished but I'm ready to take it easy for a while. Had a beautiful day to be outside.

Jim - Loved the Abbot and Costello routine. Too close to the truth!

Doug,
Great to hear about the High Wheeler show. Hope to make it there tomorrow. And I can REALLY relate to taken little ones to train shows. My two boys 6 and 10, get bored about 10 minutes into such events and then its, "Can we go now?"

Anyway, cleaned up the yard yesterday on a day off from work. And today ran trains! Temps were way up to the mid thirties.

Good news for me. My new KW is working again, it needed athe breaker replaced and the ebay seller I bought it from is paying for the repair.

I also got some 48 inch fast track, half a circle as I am running out of money.

I need the two differnt radiouses to measure for the corners on the shelf layout. Now I can proceed on that part.

Bubbette went with me on my projoect today ,we bought a cooler and filled it with Pepsi for a fellow in the Old Soilders home.

He is handicapped and cant get to the pop machine there in the evengigs and at the end of the month he has no money after they charge him his prtion for rent.

He is in my "postal Vets "Class at the VA Med Center :D

Shelby is a real cut up I will tell you.

Have a good day at the show, I have to miss a show tomorrow, to work. [:(]

Hi John, hows it goin? Did alot of work last summer on the garden layout so just had to get the stray leaves and winter debris off the tracks. Thought it would be fun to clean the tracks and run a train around for a bit. Your layouts lookin good. Look forward to some pics on Sunday Photo Phun. Have a good one.

Taking a little break from the honey do list. I just saw a program on the "Fine Living" network. A program called "Born American" with Joe Theisman as the host. They had a section on Craftsman tools, so I started to watch, and then, a great segment on Lionel Trains![:D]It was cool. I also noted on the web start up which has news headlines, that a civil war hero's home in ME was destroyed by fire. So, where has the CHief been? Just kidding, I hate for any home to be destroyed, even if it was a yankee general.

Hello All! Buckeye-Your Chili Jokes are a classic![dinner][C=:-)][;)] Jim F. Enjoyed your updated Abbott & Costello routine. Very timely for this day & age. PBJ- Your kids should be happy when you take them to Train Shows. I never would have complained when I was their age. Train Shows were non-existant back then. I was always happy when my Sister would take me to the Mall & let me look at the Lionel Trains in the Toy Dept at Sears. Those were the days. & She always knew where I was at also if she went elswhere to shop for Clothes or Shoes. Well, Goodnight & Take Care Everyone.

Good evening all,

It was a sunny day in SE Indiana with the temps in the 40s. I flew the helicopter car for the daughter and granddaughter. I do not think the granddaughter was impressed, but the daughter was. A little background on the helicopter car is in order. When I was growing up, I had a Lionel HO set that had the helicopter car. I would really enjoy winding it up and running it along the track to hit the trigger on the track to set it off. Later on in my more scale oriented years, I converted a lot of those type of cars to regular flat cars. When Lionel came out with the Missile Launcer set a few years ago, I thought about getting that set just to get the heliocopter car. I am glad I waited until Lionel offered it separately. My wife got it for me for a recent birthday, and I really enjoy it. The O gauge version has a way to trip it with a remote control track, which the HO never did. This is the first PWC car I have bought and I am really impressed with the quality. The trucks are diecast and sprung and the finish is really good. The only problem is that I have to use the track leads on a CW-80 with the power on full to get the remote track to activate the mechanism. Maybe it just needs some breaking in.

I hope everyone has a good weekend.

Keep on training,

Buckeye,

Really enjoyed all the stories, especially the chili one. I am not a big fan of spicy food myself so I can sympathize with the third judge.

Kieth,
I have a 1689E that I need to repaint. I also need several items. First, it was the gun metal version (the tender is still gunmetal), but the prior owner spraypainted it silver. What paints are you using for these, and where to you get it. Second, where would you go for parts, ie, pilot and trailing trucks? Also, what would you use to remove spraypaint from the red marker lights? Lastly, I am thinking of getting a 1688, if you haven't picked them all up[;)]. Where would be a good place to pick up a fixer upper?
Thanks,
Dennis

Hello Dennis! You can use Automotive Charcoal Grey Paint & I have a 1688 that was repainted using Charlie Woods # 385 gunmetal grey which is a darker gunmetal. Yet, it closely matches the original very well. I have a spare set of Marker Lights for your 1689. I also have the rear trailing truck & can find a Front Pilot Truck for you also. If you want a 1688, The Trading Post in Cleveland,Oh has a few lying around waiting for someone to take them home.[;)] Their Phone # is 1-216-661-7300. Be aware that some of them do not have Tenders. However, Warren's Model Trains has spare 1689 tender's that they can part with and I've seen quite a few there & have picked up a couple for my 1688's as well. They are not too expensive usually around $ 15.00 & make sure you specify that you want a complete tender as they are in various conditions ranging from junk to complete with all parts included. If you want the rear truck, marker lights, front truck,or any other parts just send a e-mail to me & I'll help you out. Take Care & I'll talk to you later. P.S. Be sure to specify latch or box couplers on the tenders as Warren's have both types. Warren's Phone# is 1-440-331-2900. Good Night.

Waiting for my young guests to leave - another 45 minutes to go. I painted my K-line people using a wash of dark colors I had around as these figures are 15 ft. away. Of course, instead of glowing like they used to when gloriously tan, they now disappear into the backdrop. Have to move 'em so I can see 'em. Scattered my cattle a bit too. Also painted the block weights on my track-cleaning car - looks much more business-like when dark. Finally went around touching up all the snow spots on my ceramic buildings with a greenish/brown wash - it's now summer on the layout. Trying to re-wire the semaphore and double-light signal...

Well,
It has been a long day. got all the honey do's done and was able to refurbish a 1033 transformer. On ebay earlier, they had a "voice engineer" that you tell it what you want it to do and the train follows command. I have one, but I don't think it ever worked. I guess it was the original command control.

Poor Chief...( judge # 3 ) If he were in this neck of the woods , he could just plant his bottom in the snow. I do sympathize with him though, 25 yrs in Texass and still did'nt like hot food. Mrs PE makes the best mild chili around..

Roger, where do you get your tethers ??? Are they like the Lionel and MTH originals with the L shaped plug ???

Pigseye - I bought the tethers from TAS. If I recall correctly they have up to 10 pin sets. For my project I used an 8 since I needed 7 wires. If I didn't interconnect the power and ground pickups from all 3 units back to the board I could have used 5 wires of a 6 wire unit.

Yesterday I finished rewiring the B unit with the electronics and the trailing A unit that had the single speaker. The lead A unit needed some mods. to mount the 2nd speaker and should be done today. I used wire nuts as temporary tether connections till I test run and make sure all is well, then I'll solder the connections to get rid of some clutter.

Good Morning All from NE Ohio

where the temp is 25 and going up to 44 with Blue Clear Skies which will be giving way to clouds and snow tonight. But the weather lady says mid 60’s by next weekend.

Ed – the auction was fair to poor. Most of the rolling stock (Lionel) was from the MPC period and was sell 3 cars for one money, at $20 to $35 per buy. The engines were the same, 2 for $120 or so. The K-line cars were early K-lines and were 4 for $25.00. It was a fare price if that is what you wanted.

PE Tim – Did you ever pick up one of the K-Line Pigeyes refers [?] One of the local dealers had one at the last show for $35.00.

Yesterday we finish cross wiring some of the switches at the museum layout. Then we ran some trains. Check out the trains that Charlie brought down. The one he as had for over 70 years.

Pick of the Day

All be safe

LAZ - A friend who was a middle school principal had a z-scale that was built in a brief case. Used to keep it in his office and pull it out to play. My brother was into N-scale for a while. He built a really cool layout and probably hasn't touched it in 5 years. He was talking about tearing it out.

Morning to all. Went to early church. Nothing much planned. Got to try to fire up the gas grill as we are having a crowd for my son's burthday next weekend. I have this grilling sauce for chicken that he loves. May work on the layout if it's not too cold out there in the garage.

Have a great day.

I mixed up glue in a spray bottle to spray over a accessory that I built and mounted for later inclusion on the lay out. It has coal and red dog as well a ballast ans some foilage.

I made several trips out back to work as the day is nice.

The last trip was for the diluted glue in a spray ytpe Tilex bottle.

After several liberal applications I took my materials back in the house and s I began to flu***he glue out of the sprayer, well you guessed. It wasn't the tilex bottle, it actualy a 409 bottle full of 409.

The glue is on it now but I an wondering if the 409 will melt the paint or previous applications of glue?

I will know later I am sure.
