Praying for Jim's son and Doug's nephew and all the rest of us who need God's helping hand today and every day, may the Lord bless us and keep us.

Cold here in Lower Arnold. The insurance guy was here yesterday morning and wants to have them take all the siding off one side of the house where the hail really ripped it up and use some of the good pieces to replace the few sections on the front of the house that were hit, then replace that one side with all new. The older stuff, he thinks, will match the front of the house better and keep the sections from really standing out. I'm not sure this will work, since the side gets direct sun almost all day, while the front only gets sun in the evening.... Also wants to have only the front side of the roof replaced??? I guess they can do that.

How much does it cost to have a roof replaced? Anybody have any rough idea? We've got a mid-sized ranch, about 1450 sqft.

I might spring for the rest and have a whole new roof that would all match if it's not too much difference....

Went to the doctor yesterday for my 40 year tune-up and tire rotation. Have to get lab work done, but blood pressure was okay. Need to lose weight. I was 2 years late for the service (being 42 now), so I hope my warranty didn't expire. He did slip me a finger (or 3 maybe?) which I was expecting. Colin - this is something to look forward to as you gracefully age like the rest of us!

I owe it all to turkey bacon, egg beaters, fried okra and GRITS!!!

[:D]

RIP Chewy - best dog I ever had.

Looking forward to a quieter day. Yesterday was pretty busy. Two funerals coming up tomorrow and Thursday. Hope the weather clears some.

Have a good day!

Dr. John! Another 4 star general and official chaplain of the Coffee Pot Brigade!

Jon - yes we have skiied Steamboat. Nice place. Haven't been back in several years. Most our skiing is in the Dillon CO area as we have a friend that lets us use their house there!

Hope all of you suffering with illnesses get better soon!

Thor, that Atlantic has no prototype. It is just a generic steamer. The current mold and it's predecessors have been a Lionel staple for a very long time. It originally started as a 2-4-2 Columbia type and was used extensively for starter sets in the late 40's and into the 50's and 60's. MPC converted it to die-cast and added the 4 wheel front pony truck I believe. My first set of 1957 had the #250 orange stripe Pennsylvannia version.

So damp last night we had water "dripping" from the fog. Cloudy again and high today still in the 50's. Was 40 this morning.

Have a great day all!

Good morning from south central Indiana. Temps to get into the lower 40's today! Great.

Curt Gowdy was a favorite of mine too and he actually fished with Bobby Knight
and lived to tell the story..... so few have....

Regarding the cost of a roof on a similar house to Mr. Fortner.. we spent
right around $4000 for a 30 year dimension shingle type...... the standard shingle
was about $600 - $800 less.............. My son recently got a quote on his for about $3400....

I wonder when the Williams GG1 will grace my door? Hopefully soon.

Hope the ill get better and we all do good.......

later................

Been very busy here today, didn't take time to read all but did notice that Dr. John now has four stars, congrats on that!

After all the talk, I had to have a bowl of Dixie Lily Grits this morning. Mmmmm Good!
Of course on my diet the side was Soy Bacon.

Laz, did you get though to Sun?

JIm (jaabat) thanks for the compliments. Sorry to say that the small layout is gone, part of the deal with the Mrs. to get the ok to build the new layour. The new layout is essentially done except for detailing, never done with that. As I get an idea I tackle another area or add a few people of vehicles.

The station is my scratch built version of the station in Glenwood Springs, CO. On one of my past trips out there I took a bunch of photos and measurements and was able to draw a set of scaled plans from them.

Thor,
Is the engine you mention the scale Atlantic that Lionel has made for the past few years? I have one of the first ones from 1999 and it has that wobble you describe...in fact I've heard lots of people complain about the early ones wobbling or bobbing on the run. Aproximately how much running time did your engine have before it started giving you the binding problems? My engine probably only has about 30-40 hours running time on it. Mine exhibits the same lack of slow speed control and sort of leaps into action when I crank up the power. It's not noisy at all but I suspect something is out of align or there's too much play in the gears.

Bruce Webster

Bruce the engine is brand new, has maybe four hours running time on it. I dont know what type of Atlantic it is, I'm hoping Roy will tell me!

I don't know where you're at but I'd be happy to take a look at another one for any of the guys though I doubt most need my help.

As I described, its the traction tyre that causes that wobble, its too thick. There's also a lot of play and its the play that causes the side rods to offset which effectively alters their length.

So even though the side rod quartering doesnt count for much since the wheels are meshed together by a gear, the side play on the rods is enough to make them go from straight to diagonal effectively altering their length.

Put your engine on its slowest speed and watch the crosshead. It'll probably lift up or cant sideways at the limit of its travel, if so, its the rods that are doing it.

As Roy quite rightly points out these things are tough and will probably run for a long time with all sorts of slop and rattle but it cant be doing them any good and a careful alignment is worth doing.

Thor,
I might have confused 2 totally different engines here. Mine is Lionel's scale version of an E6, #18095, whereas yours sounds like it's the one found in the NYC Flyer set. Still, I'll apply the tips you offer and see if I can spot where my problems lie. Thanks for the info.

Laz ; I just came from the Lionel site & there was a new message there on the K-line engines being able to be sold. You should be able to get one. If you get a chance, go there & read that.
Thanks.

Congrats to Dr John.
Roger, That is one beautiful area there. That drive along the river from Glenwood going east is gorgeous. Boy talk about hindsight, we could have bought a nice parcel of property at Vail many years back shortly after it was started for next to nothing. [D)]
Almost forgot, it was downrite cold here lastnite. 27* BRRRRR can you guys keep your cold weather east of here ? [|(]

I just read Roy's response on the 4-4-2....yep, I've mistake it for the different engine I have. Thanks for clearing that up, Roy.

I added this to my post on modeling the Lionle coaling station b ut think it as some value on its own. Thusly I posted it here.

Thank you.
:)

I went to K Mart for some cheap spray paint to restock my craft box and re discovered this craft paint.I pulled into the crowded parking lot at the and slightly rolled down the car windows to make sure my dog, Katie had some air. Even though it was cool today, the sun was btight and it was cloudless.

She was stretched full-out on the back seat and I wanted to impress
upon
her
that she must remain there. I walked to the curb backward, pointing my
finger at the car and saying emphatically, "Now you stay. Do you hear
me?"
"Stay! Stay!"

The driver of a nearby car, a pretty blonde young lady, gave me a
strange
look and said,

"Why don't you just put it in park?"

Anyway, while in K Mart I found that Krylon makes wht they call the Stone series now in a metalic. Crafters use it in and out of doors to paint jars and planteres and so forth.

This is perfect for modeling roofing, painting ballist or plastic track like Fast Track if you want to add realism and for roads, parking lots, about any and every thing. Good for araes around inductrial facilties and to stucco walls.

It is about $6 for a 12 oz can.

This is a view of the product from there web site.

I am truely sorry if these paint samples wont show .

...and they have several more.I am not an expert at this sort of stuff, I truley do it on a levele that for my own enjoyment. I am not trying to be a big shot, I just wanted to share what I am doing and bring a value back to the forums, back to modeling and layout building.

They also have these colors.

If are not familiar with them, they are like trunk paint, texture and sevral colors.
