Well, spring has sprung in Iowa with a vengance. We've gone from wind chills to two beautiful spring days and now hail and rain. When I left here this a.m. I took the nice car for a quick trip to the grocery store and since I hadn't been to Hobby Haven for NEARLY a month I thought I was due for a train fix, yup you guessed it--while I was there it got dark and hailed, twice. Is this God's way of saying stay out of there, you have enough toy's? Luckily no damage, pea sized hail. The only damage was to my wallet.

bogaziddy--it's an MTH Log Loader and I've had it quite a while. The kids love to load logs onto the cars and then dump them out. I also have the Saw Mill and it's equally popular with guests, we just have to remember to always put the guy back down or it gets ugly fast. Here's a couple of shots I took this afternoon.

I'm pretty proud of how this lumber yard turned out. It's one of my favorites on the layout.

This is a view of the saw mill

Thanks, The lead is a K-line and the second Mikado is a Lionel, Both railsounds and the different sized drivers make the chuffs go in and out of sync which is really cool!

Well now that Dave has super MAC PHOTO POWER, miss a few hours of coffee and one has to catch up on 3 pages!

Bog - I didn't know you were the real "Bob" until you posted your photo in your signature! Wait until I tell some friends - you will have worshippers galore!

Great pics all. Great day here! 80's! Sunny!

Went on a field trip with my son's class this morning. McKinney, Texas, has converted their 1911 Post Office into a pretty nice Civil War museum. Three floors of stuff to do and lots of hands on for the kids. Some re-enactors have left some gear there, so the kids got to pick up and handle a 58 caliber muzzle loader, a 140 year old cavalry breech loader and some other weapons. Lots of minnie balls, artillery shells, canister shot, etc. A recreation of a camp site and replica clothes to put on. This was the best interactive place for kids I have seen. Even had a field triage area with a box full of amputated limbs for them to play with (rubber of course).

Have a great day all!

Farming started again. Onions set and squash planted. [:D] Lettuce and carrots sown. Now to pack for trip to Orlando tomorrow AM. Put up two cables with locks [at the pond] this AM to stop people that can not read "No Traspassing" and drove several times through my mudholes I had worked hard to fill. Did not care and tried to make them worse. Later

Nice photos guys.

Jon, I like the mountains in the background, are they sculpted or 3D photo, it's difficult to tell.

Dave, Do you use a colored filter on the camera or lighting to get that golden glow for your photos?

Roger,

Those are sculpted mtns. on 1/2" foam board by my wife. She worked a whole weekend (while I was gone) on those bad boy's and did several "do overs" because she is such a perfectionist. But for her it is such a stress reliever it becomes great therapy, I often times get home (even though I'm retired, I have a wonderful part time job) after 11:00 p.m. and she's just having a great time with no realization of what time it is. I have an album you might want to look at and see our progress.

just thought i would add this comment about cleaning modle railroad track >>>>>if you havent arleady used a bright boy or some other type of rubber erasor type of cleaner on your track ,:,never start it will leave microscopic scratches that will attract more dirt and grunge use a liquid cleaner and soft cloth only..i learned this the hard way know the track has to be cleaned more often becouse there is more places for the dirt to get lodged in glennbpb

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is warm at 63 deg with partly cloudy skies. Weatherman says its going to rain later today. Yesterday hit a high of 74 deg and come Saturday we will have rain and snow mix.

Chief – be safe on your trip

Scratch – we were thinking maybe spring brake and Surf City. Time to get out all the woody cars.

Jonadel and Dave – great pics

tom,

nice forest shot

Also, thx guys for photo compliments.

Roger B.

No filter and no photoshop hijinx. Using 3 combinations of lights: halogen, incandescent from recessed rotating lights i installed myself, and a natural light large blue photo bulb that is on a lamp at one end of layout to get sunrise effect. The recessed lights are set to eliminate shadows and the incandescent just give ambient lighting diffused.

Great track shots, Dave! Do you find working with tubular rail to be about the same as solid rail in terms of shaping, soldering, etc?

Another stormy night and day in Alabama - some local roads washed out and a few trees down. No buildings damaged though, very thankful for that! Rain predicted for tomorrow too. Just another rainy day in the soggy south!

The weekend is nearly here and it's been a busy morning at the brewery. The crew wants to make sure all the necessary supplies are delivered on time, two days to go.

Even the police are making sure the trucks get through.

Lots of activity as the fork lift loads fresh beer, the barrel loader is getting the kegs ready and in the background the ice station is ready.

Have a good weekend---Jon

Jon,

Know whatchyamean about busy at the brewery! Nice work!

thx again guys

Dr J,

Tubular is easier to bend; not much difference, I like all types of rails, just enjoy bending them to fit the trackplan i want, not stipulated by some sectional blueprint.

Large expanses of desert remain to be conquered by the track crew, who, unfortunately, are not being paid for the mile of track layed, but rather are given tequilla for their hourly compensation; thus, no incentive to ru***owards that golden spike event.

Spiked, yes. Golden, not.

Mornin All,
Tom, If it is "Surf City" time don't forget the Chevy Nomads. [^]
Going to be absolutely MARVELOUS here today, lower 80's but the wind is really howling at times. Had to take the flag off of the balconey , was afraid it was going to pull the stand out of the post.
Jon, Just love all the old woodside reefers, especially the Atlas models but unfortunately they are out of my budget range. Mine are all K-Line but there newer models are getting almost as pricey as Atlas.[:(]
P.S. What is a good way of cleaning die cast autos, the display shelf is rite below my wall mounted single mainline and it appears that there is some residue, maybe oils and smoke fluid, that doesn't want to readily wipe off.

Dave,

"Spiked, yes. GOLDEN, not"

This implies that you are paying them in CHEAP tequilla [:O] [}:)] [(-D]

Have a good trip, Chief. Thunder storms ripped through last night - still v. windy today - and a lot cooler. I'm trying to keep everyone out of my wife's way today as she prepares for a long 'drama' at church this weekend. Quick, here she comes, run for the basement!
