TURBO TIM only 5 days off Thursday (friday eve) till MOnday go back on Tuesday will only have 46 days left then.
DR JOHN neat reading about your DAD. My DAD too was a WWII vet he was in Africa for a while then went to Italy in the PO Valley where he was hit three times. He didn't like to talk about it much but when he did he only told us where he was hit and that he woke up a week later on a red cross boat coming home. Those guys must of been something back then.

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio has Blue Clear Sky Sunrise with temp at 28 and frost.

John, it great to see that Keith made a visit. Was that a portable fishing pole he was holding. Did you catch a fish for Chief [?]

Roy, hope your wife is felling better. Don’t kid yourself, sitting at a desk, is very bad for your back.

Ah blue skies here as well. The coffee is hot the girls are on their way to school and the cat is watching for birds. Not a bad start.

I can't decide whether to beat an O72 switch into submission today or just get something else done. Hope everyone is well. Have a good day.

Morning,

Been digging holes for new trees. Here's what my yard soil looks like:

First 1/16 inch= topsoil

Next 1 ft = 90% yellowish clay, 10% rocks

After 1 ft down it is 70% rocks, mostly shale and 30% black clay

I purchased an 8 ft tall iron bar called a "Digger" from Harbor Freight. It came in very hand for leveraging out rocks more than 18 inches in diameter.

The clay is so bad here that if you put water in the hole you dig, it just sits there and doesn't drain. Weeds seem to like the clay and rocks, tho.

Tonight hope to get back to the train layout.

Morning, all! It's a nice spring day in central Alabama. A little bit cloudy with a chance of rain later, but the temp. is 72 degrees! [:)]

Dave, I have similar soil problems at my new house. We have a lot of red clay in Alabama. My yard has almost no topsoil with a lot of red and yellow clay. I think the topsoil washed away while the house was being built. I had to have 12 truckloads of sand hauled in to give my soil some drainage. Put down bermuda grass and I'm hoping for the best. Too cold still here. I know what you are experiencing, Dave. 'Course everything here's still frozen solid. When they build subdivisions out here in the pristine wilderness that is northeastern Illinois, they dredge up the 2 feet of loamy dirt that used to be farmland and sell it - and leave about 1/4 of an inch of covering over solid clay. Lotsa of surface gravel mining all over our county still - huge pits - huge uncovered trucks - lotsa crabby newcomers with pitted windshields. Didja see my photos on the Sunday thread, huh, didja?

Pretty here now. Rain later today. Worked hard at the pond yesterday. Kept running out of breath. Put in grass carp. Hope they eat the place clean. The grass is already growing in the pond. Got a pair of geese nesting. Plenty of activity. Need to be fishing it. Got to get a small bridge built across spill way or someone will fall in or down the clift. Got apt with CPA for taxes. I think they get a cut from the IRS. [;)] Everyone have a great day and God bless all.

G'morning all - The rains of spring have begun here in mid-continent U.S.A. - and for us, it is overdue. Nevertheless, the lawn (and those pretty little yellow flowers poking up) needs it. Supposed to be a windy, rainy and rather cool day - good day for ------ AND trains![:D]

TTim - my wife's name is Janice. Thanks for the kind thoughts.

Spanky - the problem is muscular and she is actually more comfortable sitting in a chair. We think it is the STRESS of a 13 year old female jr. high schooler followed by impending (June) STRESS of a 14 year old female jr. high schooler.

Siberianmo - great pics and I like the way you made those Alps looking mountains out of the foam.

For those with interesting dirt, we have north Texas black clay - so the only difference to waht you guys have is the color. Here in Dallas, if you find a house that does not have foundation problems then you need to be suspicious of what is the problem with that house.

Sunny and coller today, 70's. Spring is here!

Have a great day all!

Good Morning,

I'm jealous of all the good weather reports, it's crappy here! Grey skies, wind out of the east with a wind chill and showers later this afternoon. I hope we get some spring weather next week.

Interesting to hear the "dirt" reports. After my parents passed away we sold a small farm that had been in the family since the 1800's. They did a soil test and it was very interesting, talked about all of the differing layers of this particular farm land. The farm was in north west Iowa which has a reputation for being the best of the best and typically the crop yields are amazing. Now the farmers chiesel plow in the fall and wind erosion has become less of a factor, today's farmers are even better stewards of the land they own. Where we live now the soil is terrible, lots of clay and oak trees and it just won't perc but 300 yards to the east of us is one of those wonderful farm fields. It's always inspiring to my wife and myself in the spring when you can smell the freshly plowed fields before planting begins. I guess you have to be from Iowa to understand that.

Now if we could just smell coal from steam engines and hear that lonesome whistle life would just about be perfect.

Hello Everyone ! Had a good time over at John & Rusty's house. Now the eastern border of Ohio is fully protected from a invasion of sutherner's who might try to come up along the eastern edge of our State & Attack us[;)][:)] We didn't have to oil the Controller as it worked just fine. But, it will have to be fine tuned in order to go Fishing ![:D] I told John that he should name his Diner "Batman's Cove". By the way, Batman had a green Corvair towed away from the Cove that was driven by the Riddler ! Good police work on his part[;)][:)] Now everything is protected & safe in Ohio. The layout and trainroom took about 18 months from unfinished to what it looks like now. Hours? Tough one to estimate, as I didn't "hit it" every day - some periods of time went by with nothing done - a couple of weeks here and there of inactivity. While I've kept track of expenses and inventoried virtually [verything it took to build the layout - arghhhhhhhh - no time sheets! [tdn][:(!]

My wife helped with creating the waterfall and two of the larger lakes. She also is responsible for the black curtain that surrounds the layout from floor to main level. Nothing like competent and willing help![}:)]

The mountain (I call it Mt. Mayer - named after an airline pilot friend and neighbor who inspired me to go with the foam .......) reminds us of our travels in the Canadian Rockies (have to use some imagination - but it's "there"). The bridge is from three Atlas bridge kits that I used on a former layout - two girder and one trestle. I came up with the idea and my friend used his creativeness to come up with what you see - including the weathering.

Our nice spring weather turned foul a while ago. We were under a tornado warning for about 45 minutes, so we all headed to the hallways and twiddled our thumbs for a while. Thankfully, the tornadoes went away from us and there are no reports (so far) of property damage or injury.

It started pouring, lightning and thunder at about 1:30 this afternoon. Temp. in the upper 50's, they're talking into the mid 70's later this week.

Stopped at the train store on the way home today to say hi and he happened to have an Ertl semi at half price. It's one of the collectable banks with a slot in the trailer but for $9, including tax, I can live with the slot or fill it in.

Hello All: Another beautiful day up here, supposed to be nice for one or two more days & then get nasty again. Picked up a copy of Classic Trains (spring issue) today, just to read the article on C.P. The Canadian, was I shocked at how well done the whole magazine is. Recommend it for a good weekend read. I see the cannon fire & nasty talk has been quiet for a few days(something must be up). Siberianmo: Once again great pics. Have a great evening Steve

Well, pretty day. Rain is suppose to be on the way. Built small bridge across the spillway for the little black kids [not politically correct] to cross without falling in. I let them fi***he pond. Gives them something to do during the summer when they are not in school. Then went to CPA and found out how much I have to pay for George W's private war so he can get gas prices higher to make more $$$$$ for himself and his buddies. [:(!][censored][censored] Then took wife out to the Olive Garden for dinner. [:D] Now we are so full we can hardly stay awake. Roger B., they found the BIG hog in GA.
