Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is cool and wet. Temp at 40 and it has been raining since late yesterday afternoon and may turn to snow tonight. But its spring, right [?]

Doug – congs on the grandchild.

Last night we had a very special guest visit Spanky’s Cove (see Sunday Photo Fun). Ed Boyle of OGR magazine visited our layout after the train show.

All be safe

Just finished reading the Sun. paper, "Athens Banner-Herald". The lead story, majority of the front page, and more inside, was on Georgia short line railroads. One of these comes into Watkinsville. Of interest was referrence to the website "railga.com" that deals with the history, et al, of railroads in GA. I only looked at the opening page and one topic but it looks like a site I'll be going back to. If anyone is a rail history buff it's worth a look.

Roger, there is a similar site for Alabama shortlines too. I no longer have the link but it would not be hard to find.

Time to leave the office and walk over to the sanctuary. Palm Sunday and serving communion in both services. Beautiful weather today too. Everyone have a good day!

Rainy and damp here in Pittsburgh. Coffee is hot, wife is sick. Hope I don't get it today. The Century Club Hudson is smoking again thanks to some parts from the Iron Horse. Looks like a good day to stay inside, workout, work on the layout and chill a bit.

Big News today in the Austin Sunday paper (Austin American Statesman)...seems that our OHIO friends live in the State that not only spawned Aviation, Space Travel, and a plethora of other amazing things, but latest and greatest accolade, according to John Kelso, a featured columnist of the paper, is that since Cleveland is the World Headquarters of Webster's New World College Dictionary, OHIO is now the WEDGIE CAPITAL of the UNIVERSE!!!, according to Michael Agnes, editor in chief of Websters. Ladies and Gentlemen of OHIO, I salute you!

You see, the word "Wedgie" has just been added to the latest printing which is due out in May. Now, in case you aren't familiar with the term, ask your kids...(wink). Perhaps Dr. John can give us a proper definition, ecclesiastically correct, of course...otherwise, I'll be glad to offer a salty, graphic, description, North Carolina style...

...and I once again am pleased that OHIO rises again to the occasion, so to speak...TexASS pales in comparison to the Buckeye State! I just may have to move up there and share in the notoriety...(wink)
Small Layouts are cool! Low post counts are even more cool! NO GRITS in my pot!!!

Good morning all,

Congrats[tup][tup][tup] To future Grandpa Doug. But it was raining in east San Diego country yesterday, were the gulls walking in the rain? [%-)]

John, Happy Palm Sunday, have a terrific Day !

David, glad you didn't get that stray bullet. Only time we have those in San Diego, are in the tough part of town, with a drive by shooting going on. [angel][angel]

MartyE, hope you wife gets feeling better.

Tom, glad you, Spanky, and the boys had a great time. [:)]

Chief thanks for the sunshine wish, I see some blue out the window this morning.

Laz, are you the one sending rain like Chief said ?

My wife's grandma came out of surgery like a trooper. But she was so doped up she was talking to my wife's mom on the phone and without her hearing aids she was yelling into the phone " Get me out of here, these people aren't very S-M-A-R-T. [:D][:D]

Jimbo,

Down here in Florida we are almost as deprived as those guys over in the Piney Woods. I can't afford a new word book, I have to make do with my Laugh-In edition of Funk & Wagnalls. It says that wedgies are a style of ladies footwear popular doing the late war.

Sunny and warm. Might go to the pond. Went to Early Church and Sunday School. Miss that when I am traveling. Wish it would stay like this for a week or so. More rain due Tuesday. Think it is to be warm this week so not too bad. God bless.

Stan,
Yes, I've been to Anniston, although it has been a few years. I worked in Talladega for a while back in 1981 and got over there from time to time.

Jim,
Far be it from me to improve on Webster's dictionary. I'm just surprised that it took so long to get recognized. I think wedgies were originally develped during the first century AD by the Romans under the direction of Caesar Tiberius. It was primarily used as a method to induce the subjects of the Roman empire to pay their taxes . . . or something like that!

Tim/TurboOne,
Glad your grandmother came out of surgery okay.

Chief,
Glad that you are out and about. Sounds like that flu medicine actually works!

Laz, Hope spring has sprung in PA. Sounds like a good find at the gun show. I've got my Dad's old M1 carbine. It's in good shape and I keep it cleaned but it has not been fired in over 20 years.

Tim/Pigseyes,
Yeah, I put the coffee cup down before I read any of Jim's posts!

Greetings all. Had a busy weekend.
Roy, my daughter turns 14 in July - she's been homeschooled for the past couple of years but is very excited to be going to the local high school - excited because of the boys! boys! boys!. Oh brother... Speaking of which, I have to run to pick her up at her youth group. See you later.

I'm back - this was a rarity in the Murphy household - a kid's weekend - where nearly everything we did related to one of the three kids. Friday evening, I raced home from work early to go over to a three-hour-long (way too long) science fair at our church with my oldest boy, the youngest and my wife. Nothing more challenging than entertaining a 2 year old at such an event where he can't touch anything. Anyway, all were suitably inspired for next year's fair. Then I had to go out and pick up the daughter who was babysitting - I always thought the baby-sat had to drive both ways... Saturday, everyone but the baby and me went to play laser tag with a bunch of junior high kids. I managed to work on some scenery on the layout and even took some pictures I'll try to post tomorrow. Today was v. tiring. Got up at 430 to set up for church - then after tear-down after the last service, I entered the inner circle of hell that is DinoRex - a sort of Chuck E Cheese on steroids for a birthday party attended by the 2 year old - who invites a 2 year old to a party like this - and who goes? Missed the end of today's NASCAR race - didn't get to read the paper either, but there was definitely family-togetherness. Hmmm, this looks like complaining. All in all, I'm thankful to have a full house of healthy people. Have a good night.

Doug - Family weekends can be the best.

WE had mostly a train weekend, with guest and all, but today was mostly family day. But I did get in a visit of a freinds layout today.

Doug,

My daughter turns 14 in June. Interesting, I also had to go pick her up a while ago from church youth group (one of the few socially positive things she does these days). She spends way to much time on-line - whoa! - I better not go there [:O]

wow - [#welcome] to all the new folks at the coffee pot. It's gonna get tough keepin' up with everyone.

My son and I went to our first Boy Scout camp last night. We were supposed to go Fri night, but there was a soccer game Sat morning that we could not reschedule and we did not want to desert the team, so we went late. We had great weather (70's and sunny day's and 40's at night). We went to an old Scout camp at Lake Texoma. Had a great time, but my son did comment that he was not happy with all the rules (don't throw rocks, don't put sticks in the fire, don't talk, put up the tent exactly this way, take it down exactly this way, blah, blah, blah). It did remind me when I was in Scouts that there are some who can drain the fun out of anything, so I will have to watch a bit harder the next time to make sure he (and his buddies) are not being riden too hard by the older Scouts. My friend (who is the Cubmaster of our Cub Pack - I was the Webelos leader) and I did not know what to do. We are used to our Pack campouts where we have to do all the planning for the campouts and events for the boys. We got to sit and watch. What a concept. The troop our boys are joining are is well organized and they have all their processes down which is much easier than when we revived our local Cub pack and had to put everything in place.

BTW - did you guys know that Webster was a language minimalist? He is the man who formally shorted a lot of US words from the Queen's english (e.g. color vs colour), so terms like "wedgie" actually fit into his philosophy - uh - maybe "fit" is not the greatest choice of word here. [swg]

Getting late. "See" youz gizs tomorrow!
Roy

Regards, Roy

MORNIN GIZ,
TOM it is the second day of spring ? 39 degrees and lite rain but we need that to see those flowers come up and get so nice. Crocus' are open and tulips are just popping up.
Dr JOHN glad to meet ya. My brother and friend have quite a few M1s. I think 7 combined they sort of collect them but they shoot them. Not just for looking at. Just like me with trains I buy them to run. Was your DAD in WW II is his M1 a war gun? They are nice and I will probably get one sometime but for now I will just buy the ammo and use theirs.
Might go and GOLF this week spring training ya know, if it gets warmer.
Have agood one and lets be safe out there.

Good Morning,

GOOD to be home after a whirlwind weekend trip to to St. Paul to help youngest son mud/sand/prime/paint his new purchase, an older home. Normally it takes us a little less than 4 hours to drive up but Friday it 7 1/2 hours, I 35 was like a demolition derby beginning in southern MN and lasting to just south of the cities, I think MN put away most of their snow removal equipment away just prior to the storm. I've never seen more accidents and snow in one day in my entire life, if I hadn't taken my 4 wheel drive truck we would not have made it. Even witnessed another pick up simply run into the back wheels of a snow plow--just crazy. Good to get home last night and run the trains, wonderful therapy, especially with a glass of Chardonay. Time to get busy and get the week organized.

I get to wear jeans to work today - hurray! And we're actually closed Friday - double-hurray! Too cold for the light jacket I wore though - it was wishful thinking.

Tom, didn't you have a 'trains weekend?' - did you pick up anything of interest?
Tim, when you talk about your cab forward with a VCR motor, it sounds intriguing - is it O scale?
Steve, nice to get a picture of the future through your daughter - among our friends, we have the oldest kids so we seem to experience everything first.
Jon, we heard about that snow - it reached all the way down to just a bit north of us in Wisconsin. Last week's snow is all gone.

Good morning all, hope everyone survived their storms this weekend. We got rain but not as bad as its been. Trenches worked again, no ponds so far.

Doug, Cab forward is in HO, All I got in O so far is NYC flyer system. Waiting for CabForward thats in Lionels new catalog, or the G scale one by Aristo. Bought it from a friend, and he fixed it up to pull 60+ cars. With articulated everything, it looks and runs awesome.

Jon, glad you are OK. We had a SUV try to drive thru a semi trailer. Biggest helecopter I've ever seen tried to land in a small shopping center to ready to evac the driver after the fire department cut them out of the vehicle. Weird part, SUV was for sale, but the FD was using the jaws of life to extract the occupant (s)?? out. Not for sale anymore.

Chief have fun at the pond, thanks for taking the rain back.

Morning Laz, did you get two weeks off for Easter ??

Morning Scratch.

Thanks Spanky for the invite to photo fun, it was a blast showing off the new engine. Learned how to focus the cam in macro with manual focus. Hopefully the closeups just get better. I want to try and be as photogenic as you.

Steve, good luck with the 14year old. They grow up too fast don't they ?

Take care all,

Tim

Still catching up here.

Doug da G - congrats on the grandchild! [tup]

TurboT - we are getting some of your rain here. We can always use it!

Gonna be 79 today with serious T'storms. Typical N. Texas spring.

Had to cancel an overnight business trip to Chicago today as my wife strained her back and cannot move. Got the doc on the phone who called in muscle relaxer and steroid regimen. She is going to be fine, but is not mobile and I am doing all the chores and taxi movements for the kids. She is able to crawl to work since she just has to sit at a desk.

Have a great day all!

Howdy everyone, hope your day is going well. We had a frog-strangler of a rain storm last night, but it has cleared off this AM.

Laz, yes my Dad was a WWII Navy Vet. He was an SP and guarded Japanese prisoners on the Gilbert Islands, also did a stint as a Pharmacist's Mate at the San Diego Naval Hospital. He had an M1 and a 45 side arm when he was an SP. The M1 he has now is not the same one, he bought it sometime in the late 50s or early 60s.

Morning all - just siberianmo back in town for a quick cuppa Joe and a little chat about trains.

A couple of you asked for some more photos as my Polar Express shelf system progressed ......... Here's the update: Just about half the "night sky" background is in place - my wife did the wallpapering, I cut the cardboard backing - ah, teamwork![tup] All the track for the 20 ft x 5 ft oval is in place and aside from putting in the plexiglass "guards" to protect against the unthinkable. It is good to go.

Here are some of the most current shots ....... (click to enlarge)

That's about it for now - I expect to have this latest edition to my Can-Am trainroom completed before too long. Then what?

Gotta go .........
