Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is warm at 48 deg and going to 52 with rain. A nice break in winter.

What a great weather weekend. Even pick up some new train cars, which were posted on the Sunday photo fun.

Laz – It just goes to show you why they run the races. You can’t always tell who is going to win. Team Force out in the first round, the Shoe and the Army of ONE back up the national speed record and then next round goes out. It should be a great year of racing.

Chief, look out. Buckeye and I have about 10 of us on the forum from the Great State of Ohio.

Buckeye – If you are going through Cleveland on your way to NY this weekend, let me know, we have be having another Forum meeting at my place with csxt30 and GregM.

Pick of the Day

all be safe

Obviously from the Chief's description, he had a tough time getting back across the Mason Dixon LIne. Way to go LAZ!

Chief, you and I need to talk about on board chargers. You know why.

Dave,

I own a Mac and had the same problem, are you using Shutterfly? I sent them a nice letter about the problem and I finally got a very terse response saying they couldn't release that information. So I signed up for Village Photo (thanks to Tom's advice) and it works just fine.

I just loaded iLife '05 and it's amazing, really sped up my already fast computer. If you tell them your an educator (well, you were in for your previous years) you can get a discount. I also purchased the new iPod shuffle and I love it. For $99.00 you can put 120 songs on and the sound is just amazing, even with the ear buds they supply, I think you would enjoy while out walking BB.

Let me know if you have any problems with Village Photos, I think you'll like it.

Dave - you should try Subway instead of the Big Mac. [(-D]

Village Photos is also free, you do have to resize your pics before uploading them.

Which computor do you have at home [?]

Thanks, Jon.

Macs seem to have less problems w/spam and stuff (and they also have a nice built in PDF maker that PCs don't have. But it was frustrating not finding "properties".

I may give Village Photo a try but I'm curious why the photo properties cannot be viewed in a Mac.

The iPod sounds nice. My favorite songs would be an eclectic mix of mostly 70s and before music:

Arizona, Mark Lindsay

What's Going On, Marvin Gaye

Me And You And A Dog Named Boo, Lobo

I have a huge collection of albums that I want to to put on my hard drive, of course they are all "pre CD" so they are vinyl. I had a friend suggest iMike and I'm going to look into it, apprently you can save whatever you want off of vinyl right onto the hard drive, but it's in real time. I'll guess I'll have to find my leisure suits and lava lamp and make an evening or two of it!

Jon,

Didn't know you can do that. I've got about 200 lb of vinyl including most of the Beatle albums, one from 1959, as well as Mo-town.

Also have 45 rpms, including about a dozen ones of train sounds from steam locomotives and even trolleys and old railroad songs.

Putting the steam sounds on CD or digital format and then uploading somehow via DCS would be quite interesting, but I've got too many irons in the fire to even think about that now.

Are lava lamps the ones with lights and oil? I like the 4-ft tall ones. As a kid, those fascinated me for hours.

Another soothing device is the pictures with lights and sounds.

I'm waiting for someone to make a large one and turn it into a train backdrop.

Good Morning,

Trying to catch up on all of the train news after being gone for the weekend, Chief isn't the only one that had fun this weekend[:)]

Friday the boss and I left for MPLS and spent the evening with Garrison Keillor taking in his dress rehearsal for Prairie Home Companion. It was in celebration of my 6 decades anniversary on the planet. Our son who lives and works in MPLS got the tickets and it was wonderful, he has an extremely talented support group behind him and of course the Fitzgerald was packed. Sat. found us on the ski slops at Afton Alps, just south of St. Paul. Minnesota is going through a real dry spell for snow but this place makes all of their snow and it was great, fun to ski when it's 45 degress. Attended a Chorus Line that night in Bloomington and then church on Sun. and then home. Drove in hard rain all the way home, much better than the white stuff, strange winter so far.

This was the first time I didn't get train stuff for my birthday and that was just fine with me. I really think I have enough "stuff" for the train room at this point in my life, I have the engines and rolling stock I really wanted to begin with and now just need to play with them. The only thing I want for the future is a Shay and that can wait for the next build in which I will incorporate a big logging operation. I guess you could call me a "user" and not a "collector". Although I would like to have larger radius curved track it's probably better that I don't, it forces me not buy the bigger Premier engines that catch my eye! Bigger is not always better.

So that's it from the Heartlands of the great mid west where the grass is actually starting to turn green, I think Mother Nature is teasing us.

Tom,

Have a Compaq at home. I was able to post photos from there. At work, we've got a bunch of Mac fanatics and I'm stuck with one. If I say anything bad about Mac, I'll get beat up. Actually, I think Macs are better than PCs for varous reasons. However, there are so many platform issues between PC and Mac that I wish we had PCs here.

Laz,

Snow wasn't even in the forcast but this morning, I had a lot of it to clean off my windshield.

Why don't the weathermen ever apologize for getting it wrong?

Wow, see all I miss after just 1 day. Happy Valentine's Day - I hope all of you in a circumstance to celebrate this day remember to do so... I'm looking forward to tracking down Chief if he comes to Illinois next month, now that laz survived his meeting. Congratulations on your 'anniversary' Jon - I have listened to the PHC on the radio and always wondered what it might be like to be there. Dave, I live in both Mac and PC worlds too - as you noted, with a tiny slice of the computer market, there are certainly some interoperationability (is that a word) issues for Apple, but boy, I like the OS. I finished insulating a long section of track after all on Sat. but it doesn't work - so I guess I need one of those voltmeters to test every tie. I suspect either this duct tape isn't insulating as I thought or there's a break somewhere. Rainy here - rainy yesterday - still are huge piles of snow resisting the melts.

Doug M, trip to Chicago is canceled for now. Sending me to some where else. [can not remember now, maybe Memphis or Kansas City???] Cloudy and rainy. BUT WARM. LAZ was nice as he had melted all the snow before I got to Harrisburg. Now he has to work on the cold and wind before I go back in a few weeks. Now to get things going here [got a break as do not go out until week after next, "back to backs" are a strain]. Happy Valentines Day to all [including the Buckeyes]. [;)] Chris, you'd better get that good looking lady something nice or we'll come up and get you [bunch of guys from NJ were at BPS Saturday and Sunday]. [;)] God bless all.

FJ&G weatherman can't get it right 12 hrs in advanced. Love the commercial when the weatherman is driving down the street gets out of the car and kid hits him with a snow ball because he forecasted sunny and warm wish we could do that.

Starting to recover from the kid virus. Ran fever yesterday and spent the day sleeping [zzz]. It broke last night and with a pretty good night's sleep [zzz] I am starting to feel better today.

Supposed to hit low 80's [wow] today! Sunny!

I here ya Roy. With all the rain we've had, and still getting, the weeds have gone berserk in the side yard. Unfortunately that's the only thing these [censored] pocket gophers won't eat. [:(!] The weather has not co-operated enough to where you can get out there to make much of a dent in them.

Was a rainy day today with fog forming this evening. They're predicting temps. in the low 70's for tomorrow. I guess it's time to start thinking about pre-emergence weed killer for the yard.

That race I was planning on watching yesterday afternoon ended up being the time trials for position, seems the program I looked at neglected to mention that. No problem, gave me more time to spend doing some switching tasks on the ELM Ry. I did find an uncoupling track, Gargraves, that didn't work. Trouble shooting is on the to do list for next weekend.

Roy, the daughter-in-law was laid-up all last week with a fever and a cough. She went to the Dr's and he couldn't say what it was. Hope it doesn't come my way. Glad your better.

Have a question I forgot to ask. Does anyone have a Samsung Digimax digital camera? The Mrs. got one from work as an attendance award. I'm trying to connect a universal 110VAC to 3VDC power adapter to the camera but there is no indication of polarity on the DC connection port nor any info in the manual. I've emailed Samsung but a reply'll take forever. Anyone have any ideas? I did try checking to see if the batteries back fed through the port, no luck.

If I can get using it downpat I might be able to post a photo or two of the layout.

Fly into Baltimore March 3 and at BPS on March 4 thru middle afternoon of the 6. Madison is in the west I think. If so, it is not the best [red stuff] as not eastern NC bar-be-que. Folks from Harrisburg were bragging about our vinegar bar-be-que and sweet ice tea. [:D] Come by to visit in March.

CHIEF when the time get near in May let me know so we can plan a little tour of the area. Go up to see the yards in Enola see the longest stone arched railroad bridge that takes you across the Susquahanna River then go to a couple of train shops. Don't know if you'll have any time to sell battery rechargers. BTW GUYS the CHIEF sold a bunch while he was at the BPS in Harrisburg. Not a bad salesman or did he take us northerners for suckers[;)][;)].

Spankybird, GREAT IDEA! The next time the Chief is in Ohio, I'll show him where the Muskingum River Navy attempted to chase down Mogan's Raiders. As the story goes, Morgan was rushing across southern Ohio and the guys in McConnellsville, Ohio used a steam boat with a cannon mounted on the bow to head up the Muskingum River to give chase. They arrived too late, but on the trip home being bored they decided to fire the onboard cannon. The recoil sunk the boat. [:D]

I did not know the North won any battles. The North claimed victory when the South got tired of playing with them. [:D][;)] I've visited a lot of places in PA. Wonderful country. Very pretty and neat farms. Love their barns. Saw an add for a older big house and barn [bigger than the house] and has stream. Less than a lot costs here. Remember, I'm a farm boy. I'll get to drive through some pretty Ohio farms next time I go to Wheeling. Good night and God bless all.

Happy Valentine's Day !!

Hello folks, just got back after 5 days in Las Vegas. We went there for the National Cheerleading Championships. Had a blast.

will share what we saw in Big trains and little trains. In Barstow, CA. there is a restaurant that backs up against the tracks. Both going and coming we saw huge trains go by. We also drove into Barstow and overlooked the train yard. It was great. A huge trains of auto carriers, couldn't even count how many. All engines were UP in the yard, but they had some consists with CSX in the mix. Coolest looking combo, An orange BNSF dash 9, the older yellow and blue SF, couldn't make out the model, and a Red/silver deisel, also couldn't make out type. But pulling over 100 cars. In Vegas they have trains that run all over, and I saw a 40 car train go thru the part of town I was in. That was like being a kid again.

Some a huge little train store. The had the largest selection of G scale I have seen in one store. Cases of deisels and steam engines, and fleets of cars. Lots of buildings, track, accessories. It was huge. Nice people. In the city of Las Vegas, there is 1 G scale, 1 O scale, 1 HO scale train store. Each only has 1 gauge. Very sad that a town with so many real trains has so few stores. Most complained that the internet has killed them.

Being from San Diego, I saw more trains in 5 days then I have seen in the last 40 years in San Diego. Shot some video, I will try to take some stills from the video and post.

Take care all
