Another clear blue day , high of 30.

Last night I went to remove the coal loads from some Industrial Rail cars I bought a few months ago. They needed some weight added to the inside. Well I found out some Chinaman had glued the loads in. It took about an hour to very carefully cut the glue around the top, so as not to ruin the cars. I screamed in the middle of all this and my wife said they probably heard me in Peking. Anyways they are all weighted down and snapped the coal load back on. Some one be on the lookout for the Chinaman with the glue. If I see him I will squirt his glue all over his,...bvjfhjkegf;h;lkgh;.. Glad I got that off my chest.

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio has light rain turning to snow, 2” to 4” by tonight. We heard some Rebel might be coming north so we have to be prepared.

Chris – Glad you are feeling better

PE Tim –
QUOTE: Does anyone know who was voted Queen of the Ohio Forum last night?

Not that I remember, but that could be an age thing.

Seems like a lot of people were having internet problems Monday night. Our DSL lines which is thru our phone company, SBC was out from around 4:30pm to 8:15pm EST. When it did come up, boy was it slow.

Morning gang. Off to town for a Dr's apt. Tom, must be something "catching" out there on the internet. Got a bunch of upgrades to Norton Security yesterday. Last night had ten updates from Microsoft. Warm and cloudy [might get a spotty shower or two]. Colder weather coming tomorrow. 73 was high yesterday. Have a good one and God bless.

CHIEF nice weekend they say but a little cold.
IS the BIG OHIO SUMMIT still going or is it wrapped up for another year?
Have a good one and lets be safe out there.

Hi everyone. Another hot day in DC. Was in T shirt sweating yesterday. Global warming has arrived.

I'll be at home this afternoon awaiting the Comcast guy to install hi-speed internet ($60 per month---UGGGGGGH!) They are a monopoly in my new development. In other nearby established residences, the price of hi-speed has fallen by up to 50% when there's competition.

FJ & G--

Don't feel too bad about the Comcast fee, at least you get your television with it, right? I pay $49.95 for my broadband w/ISP and I'm just glad to finally have that opportunity instead of dial up AOL-----now that's an ugly nightmare! Then there's the Direct TV monthly bill which I'm happy to pay because we don't have cable in the boonies and there's no way I can watch the Cubbies lose without Direct TV[:D]

I've often thought about how much more money I'd have at the end of the month if I didn't have Broadband for the computer, no direct TV, no cell phones, no gym fee, I'd have a lot more money for TRAINS!!!!!!! HMMMMM.

I got my first kind-of cab ride late last eve! Tues are my late day at work - don't usually get home until 10 or 11 pm. Anyway, one of the conductors on the late local always sees me reading CTT or Trains and invited into the cab of the rearmost cab car - so I could sit in the engineer's seat and look out the back (as the train was in pull-mode while he showed me all the equipment.) It was pretty cool - and traditional - car and train air brake, analog gauges for brakes and speedometer - locked at 55, WABCO throttle - I could see the air and speed adjust as we came into the station, and the tracks recede into the darkness. It was a real thrill.

Broadband charges vary just like cellular plans. Here SBC charges us about $70 /month for long distance, local calling and DSL - works out to about $30/month.. DSL works faster the closer you are to the 'special switching equipment' and cable broadband works faster if you're the only one on it. Comcast has some teaser rates $19 /month for 3 months but then goes up to about $60 - doesn't include TV.

Our DSL (thru SBC phone) is $26.95 per month and $19.95 per month if you have SBC long distance package.

Comcast is $19.95 per month for the first 3 months (sometimes 6 month specials) then $34.95 per month with digital cable.

Tom,

You're lucky. Doug's prices are closer to mine.

The bad part about my situation, is that my Army contracting company I work for requires me to have this Internet setup, yet won't reimburse me for it! The most I can do is write it off on tax time. I really don't need the hi-speed for anything else.

Add to that, I have to show up at work every day and can't telecommute unless there's a snowstorm. Also, on call 24/7 should something on www.army.mil need to be changed, and I'm the only one who gets the daily stories and photos. Poor, poor me. :-)

Chief,

My email at work has been down all week in case you tried to send anything.

BTW, I just purchased Advantix for the beagle. Unlike some other popular brands this one is supposed to "Repel" tics. I'm looking forward to getting it so I can take BB the beagle fishing with me w/out worrying about tics. This hot weather, even in winter, brings them out in droves where I live.

Did you acquire your pak of beagles yet? :-)

Ha! That would be something, laz. I imagine there's more art than science to getting a train to stop in the right place in all these station stops with varying platform lengths, etc. I was happy enough just looking out the back :)

Afternnon All.
Our Hi-Speed cable ain't exactly cheap but I've learned to really appreciate the service. When we were visiting family in Fla all we were able to use was dial-up and it was really SLOW. Was I ever happy to get back home and the hi-speed cable. [:D]
Spent the morning gettin ready for for a run this saturday at the museum. From 11am to 5pm will be our regular public run but after closing we'll be setting up for our Sweetheart Run, all of the club members families are invited for an evening run and barbeque. I'll be running at least two trains maybe three, one of which will be a mixed freight with a coal porter filled with Valentine's Day lollipos. I hope 300 is enough to last all day. [:o)] There is one spot on the layout where we can stop the train to let the kids, young and old alike, to select a lollipop before moving on. [:D]

Good Evening/morning depending on coast.

We are heading to Las Vegas tomorrow AM. Laptop is coming, and if my host doesn't have high speed, he will before I leave. [:)]

My daughter and wife are part of the National Cheerleading Championships held there this weekend.

Anyway, here we go.

Chris, glad you are feeling better. Mushrooms, vitamin C, and a great multivitamin. They keep me healthy, 1 out of three ain't bad.

Spanky, all things are well in the garden, although an aussie is trying to stir things up, but no one is replying. Parrots were back today early AM but only hung around for about 15 minutes.

Buckeye, awesome montage, congrats on 4th star. You have taught me a lot, and thanks for the help in the garden. [:)]

Laz, yesterday I hung drywall. And taped. And sanded. That sanding sucks. Way to dusty, and the people didn't have a vacuum. My hair aged there. When I get back from Vegas, I will be doing some more benchwork. Learned some new wood tricks. This wood stuff is fun. Except when I went to hang a honeydo cabinet. Screws will not go all the way in, even with predrilling. Even fixed some plumbing, wife is smiling and providing. [}:)][}:)]

PE tim, I didn't think China even knew where Idasnow was. [8D][8D]

Chief, hope the wife is feeling better. Tell her Dr. Tim recommends smoke. More smoke.

Take care all, Hope to talk to you from Vegas. If anyone lives there and wants to hook up for coffee, just post here. Yes real coffee. [8D][8D]

Congrats to Buckeye. Now a REBEL raid into YANKEEland. [:D] Hit OHIO first for a few minutes and then raid into LAZland this PM. They'll know the Confederate Army has been there when I leave. [don't tell'em, I'm raiding back into LAZland later this year too and hitting OHIO big time too]. Going to be asking for Southern Fried Chicken, Grits and Sweet Ice Tea at every restaurant. TURBOTIM keep on sanding remember you are the one who said you like it[;)] When you learn the other wood stuff sanding will take a back seat. But like I tell my students sanding will either make or break your project. So in order to do it right ya got to put in your time TIMMER.

Laz is right on about the sanding. With a couple of rifles I put together I started with rough blank stocks and after shaping fitting, and sanding with fillers and ever finer grades of paper and emory the wood almost didn't need a finish, smooth as a babies butt. Used the same with refinishing a couple of end tables and a coffee table.

Boy the wind has picked up and the temp. dropped this afternoon, was 42 when I left the house at 6:15 and feels colder now, 3:30. Last I heard was to drop into the upper 20's tonight.

ROGER B.,
You know what it's like to sand then. I bet those stocks look great. What types of guns for the stocks, and what type of finish did ya use. I built my flinylock muzzleloader and did the same thing with the stock and later the barrel. I used a 3step lacquer fini***o give it a nice but not too shiney finish. The real test was on the barrel where you haxe to do all the draw filing and then the sanding. Dry and then later wet. I put a browning finish on the barrel that took seven days. It was like allowing the gun to rust then stopping the oxidation process. Believe it or not I use to teach a class of high school students muzzleloader building, try that know. Hope yours turned out great,

Good Morning All,

NE Ohio is cool at 19 deg with a chance of snow later in the day. And so goes winter.

Laz – when I was on my Tool and Die apprenticeship, we had a salesman who work at our company who was a licensed Gun Smith. He paid his way thru collage by doing Gun Smithing. He also like the Black Powder guns, so we build several new ones and rebuild several very old ones.

Buckeye, you did a great job of keeping the Chief on the run, his quick stay in Cincinnati had some great Ohio Snow.
